This review is long overdue. The Cookery was a listed vendor at the venue where we hosted our baby shower, and after visiting the restaurant, we were immediately impressed by both the food and service. Since catering our event, we've returned many times, and the food is consistently top-notch. This is easily one of our favorite restaurants. The menu and flavors are perfectly balanced, and the customer service is excellent. If you're in the Westchester area, I highly recommend dining at The Cookery. And don’t miss the specials!!
This place blew me away! A really cool modern take on an Italian restaurant (...legit Nirvana was playing when I arrived) Went for restaurant week so got a full 3 course meal. Everything was amazing, top to bottom. Huge melt in your mouth meatballs. Lasagna with a maple sauce. The grand finale was the “Stickabutta pie” dessert. The name says it all. Can’t wait to go back.
This is one of my all time favorite restaurants!! I love this place. Highly recommend the crostino or the buttery salted potatoes for appetizers and the pork osso bucco for a main course. The osso bucco is the best!!! That is the reason I go to this restaurant. It's amazing!! The staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is layed back. Love, love, love this place.
I have been wanting to come here for some time , I finally did and it was well worth the wait! The food was exquisite! I had the fried octopus appetizer and it melted in your mouth! The best I've ever tasted and the salty potatoes mmmmmm! Then I had Osso Bucco and it was heaven!! I definitely can't wait to go back and try more off the menu!!
Absolutely love it here! The brunch options are amazing, and if you get there before the special sells out, you're in for a real treat. Every visit has been phenomenal. The dishes are as creative as they are delicious, the atmosphere is warm, and the drinks are fantastic.
We had a lovely evening celebrating a birthday. The staff was attentive and accommodating to our larger group from the start. The host Mark calling ahead of our reservation to confirm seating arrangements and was super sweet in helping an elderly guest navigate the tight spaces of the restaurant. The food was delicious, and our server gave excellent suggestions. Highly recommend!
If you’re looking for a lowkey spot with great food, this is it. All the staff are so welcoming and it makes you realize what great service is all about. We got the meatballs and white corn polenta to start and boy, the meatballs were so well made and melted in your mouth on the first bite. For entrees we got the spaghetti with pork and clam sausage and the paccheri. They were both well made and really yummy. We almost got the cookies a la mode but they ran out for the night, which only means we have to come back from more. Special thank you to Mark for the recommendations on the menu, he is gem.
The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, very inviting. Everything that touched our table was very well crafted and fresh. From the cocktails to the pasta and the lemon dessert. There are no words to describe the buttery potatoes! All food is made with love and detail to please the palette. Run don’t walk to make your reservation.
My son and I visited The Cookery last night and it was amazing! such a VIBE! The food was incredible, service impeccable and drinks delightful! We will definitely be coming back to this warm and homey restaurant.
I was a guest for a private event with a fixed menu over the weekend and was BLOWN AWAY by the down-to-earth yet super professional and accommodating staff. (They made sure everyone with food restrictions/allergies - 🙋♀️ - had something to eat!) The food was delicious - unique flavors and ingredients that you normally don’t see on a menu. And to the main server Bryan (with a “y”) - thank you for being the bee’s knees! 🫶
As advertised, fantastic food and excellent staff. If you like how the menu looks, you will likely love it here. And don't fear eating at the bar, they are wonderful there. I will need to update this more, but at this point, I highly recommend viewing the menu, making a reservation and getting the experience.
The steak was cooked so perfectly and so rich in flavor! I WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING AGAIN. The Moscato was so delicious as well. Need to come back to try the mozzarella and the Charcuterie Board.
Easter Brunch and the chef sent us home saying "how do they do that with the Easter pie", which was like a richer fritata with house cured meats for a flavor I will be seeking out again and again. And Pork Osobuco that's always amazing. Enjoy 😉 Update: its been a few years and I've been back many, many, times, still one of my top restaurants of all time blowing us away with amazing dish after amazing dish.
Had an amazing dining experience last night at The Cookery! What a wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary, any occasion or just an evening out! The food was superb, the atmosphere was perfect and the service was impeccable! We had a wonderful time and we will definitely return! The chef is very talented and creative! We started with the Duck Pate (a special) and the mozzarella and they were both delicious! My boyfriend ordered the steak special (ribeye) which was cooked to perfection and I ordered the Pork Osso Buco which was crispy on the outside and moist and tender and falling off the bone. It was paired with corn polenta and apples ...so good! It was so much food I had enough to take home to feed my 16 yr old son! I can't recommend more the salty buttery potatoes they were something you just have to experience and the flat beans were unbelievable! We were so full we took a slice of stickabutta pie home and wow is all I can say it's definitely something you have to try! So if you're looking for a dining experience that's different and extraordinary "The Cookery" is the place to go I can guarantee you won't be disappointed!
PHENOMENAL. This is how you run a restaurant. Solid service, cool vibes, and hands-down some of the best meals I've ever had. Honestly, I can't say enough about this place. If you are someone who loves food done right, their menu NEVER disappoints. I look forward to each and every meal at The Cookery and I appreciate the guys and gals that make it such a great experience.
Food was delicious. High-quality flavors to match the values. Just came for apps and desserts. The milk and olive bread was so tart and tangy and fluffy. The fresh mozzarella was flavorful and noticeably fresh. The buttery potatoes are heaven sent. Yum!
We really enjoyed our delicious dinner here! The waitstaff were all super friends and helpful in explaining the menu and answering questions. We got two different pasta dishes to share both were bursting with flavor and had really sizable portions. I particularly enjoyed the vintage soda they had in the cute glass bottle. I don’t usually drink soda but it was so cute I had to. We were seated in the back corner table near the kitchen and the meat refrigerator (big slabs of beef viewable in there - don’t bring a vegan here) so it was kind of busy and a bit awkward that the two of us were seated at such a large table facing into the whole restaurant. The atmosphere seemed great for a date ir a bigger group outing with quite a few tables taken up by parties of 5+. Overall great experience and we would definitely go back to try more dishes and get some dessert as well.
Door Host was very friendly and helpful with our last minute reservation. Laura had great menu suggestions for us. Food is super creative and delicious. Even the manager was really nice. We will definitely be back soon to check out the Sunday brunch menu!
Dave DiBari is one of the most creative chefs in our area. We had a fabulous meal and enjoyed every bite. We had freshly made mozzarella and duck mousse cannolis as appetizers. For entrees, I had a wonderfully crisp skin and moist brook trout with a delicious accompaniment and my friend had spaghetti with clam and sausage balls. For dessert we had strawberry cannolis and the chef’s fantastic sticka butter pie. If you haven’t been to the Cookery, go soon!
I’ve been to The Cookery’s sister, The Parlor, which I adore. So, I decided to try this one and it did not disappoint 😍 the bread was perfectly toasted and soft, the mozzarella (made daily) was fantastically smooth, and the bucatini and spaghetti were perfectly al dente and full of flavor. I’ll be coming back of course.
A fairly simple menu, rather rich, with a fun collection of eclectic and unique ideas. The starters are amazing; you might consider skipping the mains and just focusing on the top of the sheet. Pasta is also quite good. Service is excellent. Must make a reservation and plan to get there a little early as you're likely on the street somewhere.
I can’t believe I didn’t rate this place the first time I went. From the starters to dessert to the drinks everything was outstanding. Best part of all was the service. Everyone was so kind and on top making sure everything was great. But the food was a total heaven in my mouth. This is my favorite day place to go to. 10 out of 10
Food was incredible as was the service, we took my son here for his birthday and he couldn't have been happier. Make sure to get the stickabutta pie!
Cosy interior with a bar section and a dining section. Ceiling fans, white tiles, wooden tables and chairs, brick wall behind the bar. The potatoes starter is rich and comfy with a buttery salty flovor. The pork osso bucco is large, cooked to perfection, melting tender inside and crispy outside and there is a sharp contrast of acidity and roundness in the sides. The best of both worlds: a perfectly comfortable food with plenty of creativity.
I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet—The Cookery is, without a doubt, the restaurant I’ve visited more than any other in the world. It’s a place that stays with you, not just for the food but for the people who make it what it is. About 15 years ago, I fell in love with their buttery, salty potatoes and meatballs—absolute heaven. Every dish is packed with flavor, distinct, and damn near perfect. And whatever isn’t a 10/10 (which is rare), the staff makes up for with their warmth and charm. There’s so much soul here, both in the food and the people behind it. Fast forward to today—I called and spoke with Mark, who gave the kind of customer service every restaurant owner dreams of. He was polite, quick, and efficient, all while seamlessly explaining what they could and couldn’t accommodate. I’ve spent my career advocating for people—whether in business, community service, or now in public office. And if there’s one thing I know, it’s that The Cookery gets it right. Always has. With love, The Cookery’s OG Fanboy
Truly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in years. Nothing pretentious, everything delicious.
My husband and I went here for new years tonight. It’s one of our first new favorite restaurant in westchester. Our waiter was phenomenal. The pork dish was outstanding, the pasta starter dish was probably our favorite of the night. the branzino en croute was the highlight of my meal. The redvelvet was very tasty. The Maritozzi was great as well. I highly recommend it.
Do you want delicious food? Proper cocktails? Great experience? Of course you do.... check this place out. The Cookery is always on the top places to eat in Westchester and it belongs there. Google says this is an Italian restaurant but it's much more than that. Not gonna find chicken parmesan at this place. Italian influenced is the best description. We got pizza rustica and the charcuterie board to start. Entrees were the special sandwich (pulled pork and mortadella), and pork osso bucco. Got a little healthy with the special vegetable, broccolini. All amazing. High praise to the Cookery.
The Cookery is a must try in the area. Full stop. I can’t explain how important fresh ingredients are and you can taste this element in every plate they serve. Start with the charred bread and then split two plates in order to try everything. The pork shoulder came on the bone and was exquisite. The house made spaghetti was and still is my favorite spaghetti in recent memory. No kids menu is provided but they can share a plate. Street parking is usually open. Always call ahead and reserve a table before trying to walk in
Superb. My wife had the Cauliflower Ravioli. She claimed it was the best ravioli she's ever had. I had the Herb Marinated Steak. Very tasty. Portion was huge and satisfying. We had an autumn inspired dessert of pumpkin ice cream over an oversized donut. Delicious and very suitable for sharing. Our waiter was very accommodating and entertaining. We ate outdoors on a brisk evening, but the propane heaters kept us very toasty. A very enjoyable dining experience.
Compelling brunch menu with a lot of variety, from more approachable dishes like a gem salad and house made mozzarella to more adventurous and interesting fare including a duck liver canoli (highly recommend) and a roasted bone marrow Belgian waffle. There's something here for everyone and the waitstaff are knowledgable and helpful.
We come back here for the second time to recheck if the first impression we had the last time we came was true. And it was. Simple yet perfect, it was and still is. The more simple, familiar the dishes sound, like butter beans or meatballs, the more perfect they are. Warning : The appetizers are generous and the main course could be more generous. Prepare your appetite.
1) Lively, energetic atmosphere. 2) Rustic comfort dishes executed with intention and precision. 3) Welcoming and inclusive setting and staff.
We’ve known the Cookery for a long time (after an early Cookery date is when we shared our first kiss), and we had the idea to ask the Cookery to cater our wedding rehearsal dinner and post-wedding brunch. It was such a treat, everything was delicious and the portions were nice and large. It was great to have some familiar favorites on the menu. Our family/bridal party were so impressed. Thank you Dave and Sajin! We’ll come back to the restaurant again soon. - Katy & Mike Morse
Every time I come here I'm reminded of why I come back time and time again. Food is amazing, the specials are always fresh and interesting and the service is fantastic! I think the whipped ricotta app might be my favorite thing ever. Hard to choose between that and the meatballs! Plus the desert menu is crack 😋 You will never have a bad meal here, go and thank me later.
Drove from the city to get here and it was so worth it! The food was unbelievably good. We started off with the meatballs as an appetizer. It was nice and dense but still quite soft and was delicious. The pastas were the highlight and were both Al dente. The orecchiette dish had a little spice to it and was quite filling. The spaghetti and clam sausage was amazing. Didn’t know what a clam sausage was but It was so good and would get again.
Best meal I’ve had in decades. I enjoyed the pork shank while others in our party had meatballs, goose liver “ cannolis” , veal cheeks and bone marrow with pasta. Everything prepared to perfection with nothing over spiced. Ample servings. Desserts were terrific. Our party ordered 2 extra to bring home.
Great food and atmosphere. Service is a bit slow but also it was Valentines. I want to go again on a less hectic day just to be certain. I love the creativity used for the dishes.
Staff and food are what keep us coming back. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Food is consistently delicious and the bartender makes a fantastic dirty martini. Highly recommend stopping by for dinner.
The food here was so delicious. The canolis, the stuffed clams, the radiatorre, the osso bucco, the cookie tray. Everything was incredible. Oh yeah! My cocktail -- the Black Manhattan -- that was worth ordering two. If you're looking for INCREDIBLE food not far from the city, this is the spot. The Michellin guide got this one right.
My daughter had her wedding here and it went beyond my expectations. The Cookery has several areas that are perfect for a wedding. We had the ceremony in a beautiful room with hardwood floors. The changing area where the bride and attendants get ready was so chic, classy and comfortable. There are 2 outdoor areas where we took pictures and had our cocktail hour. Finally the space where we celebrated with dance and drinks was so cool. Walls were made of brick with tea lights and large windows. The Dan e floor was a great size. The food catered by Rocky Mountain was exceptional! Finally, Kate, the coordinator from The Cookery couldn’t have been any more professional, helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend have your vent here.
This cake was the most beautiful ever! We could not believe how spectacular it looked. Gorgeous cream swirls & adorned with seasonal flowers. It was also huge & most importantly, delicious. Thick cream cheese & buttercream frosting & a generous layer of citrus in the center. We loved it!
Came here and was very pleased with the service and food. Small restaurant with intimate vibes but very very very good food. We had the octopus, kale salad, and the mozzarella to start and that was phenomenal. I had the lamb bolognese, we also got the steak, fish, pasta special, and the pork osso bucco. Will be coming back for their suckling pig next!
Updated June 18th 2023 Wow! The Cookery continues to Smash Brunch. Today's highlights: The Hashbrown Appetizer The Crispy Pork Special Appetizer . Both delicious. The Crispy Pork was so good I wished it was an entree option. Eggs in Purgatory is always perfection. Simply delicious. Chocolate Polenta a campfire reminiscent delight. The Daily Special Date Cake with Jane's Vanilla Ice Cream was a sticky toffeeish summer dream. Service is casual and attentive. Outstanding Three Course Prix Fixe Sunday Brunch that includes a selection of adult beverages to chose from for under $40 per diner. The highlights were starters The Meatballs and the house made Mozzarella with Bread were both fantastic. Perhaps the most perfectly seasoned and tender Meatball this Meatball fanatic has ever had. Entrees included Cacio e Pepe and the wildly unusual but delicious Spaghetti with pork & clam sausage in a magical butter, garlic, lemon and wine sauce. Prepare to lick your plate. Included desserts were Chocolate polenta with marshmallows and cannolli shells. Imagine a warm pudding like Smore for grown-ups. My dining companion had the Stick of Butter cake and it did not dissappoint. Grab your crew and make a reservation. The food was left of center and all delicious. Service was attentive and friendly which is what you want on a Sunday morning.
We found this place online and decided to try it and I think we'll definitely be coming back. Very nice bartenders, took drink order fast, cocktails were copacetic. Food was excellent. For appetizers we took a hash brown and meatballs. Hash brown was crunchy, not oily, perfectly balanced in salt. Fresh cream and pickled onions were amazing adds on. Caviar looked good on a dish, but the taste was very artificial and didn't go well with the hash brown. Meatballs - amazing. Very tender and juicy, marinara sauce was on top as well. Pasta with Lamb Bolognese looked very delicious, so was the taste. Chicken was cooked well, looked stunning. But the king of the night was rainbow trout wrapped in potatoes. I don't know what's the secret, but it was one of the best fish I've ever had. For desserts we had stickabutta pie and chocolate polenta. The pie was alright, liked the almond crust. But chocolate polenta was just a mess in a cup. Very sweet, salted cannolli shell was too hard, definitely not a fan. Special shout-out for music playlist.
Went here for brunch. The 3 course prefix was great value and the food was very good! All items were nicely plated and well portioned. Service was friendly and prompt and the ambience is cozy. I had the biscuit appetizer, the BEC, and finished with a slice of pie. All very good choices. Brunch also came with a complementary cocktail.
The staff was friendly and we we're seated promptly upon arrival. The waitstaff was helpful with menu recommendations. It was busy that Sunday morning so they were not as attentive as can be. The food came out quick; was fresh and hot; and was absolutely delicious. It has been a while since since we had a meal where it was visually appealing and the taste of it blew us away! We will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu and perhaps even get the pig dinner!
I was highly insulted when I noticed that The Cookery was charging $9 for bread and butter. Having passed that initial shock, we went ahead and ordered. I have to tell you that these guys are doing some serious cooking here. We both ordered the pork osso bucco, the most popular dish on the menu, and it was excellent. Although I've been to a few Michelin Star restaurants, this is in my top 20 dishes ever. The Cookery is not a special occasion destination, its small, loud and very casual, but if you're a foodie, you will love this place. I highly recommend The Cookery if you're in the mood for some great cuisine.
The food was to die for! So yummy cooked perfect and I had some left overs on my Entree. The vibe was so lively and the waiters are soo cool The negotiations were its lack of seating! Definitely need a reservation. Also I saw alot of the staff drinking behind the bar witch is international!!!
Will you like it? Likely, because everyone else seems to. If someone else pays, you will LOVE IT! This review is for the person or persons who will pick up the tab: Everyone else will have had a great experience. If you are the type who beleives smiles are priceless, for you sir 4 starts. If this is date night, they will love it! If the people around the table aren't that for you, consider this a 2 star experience - but if you enjoyed the food (50/50 probability) 3 starts. As for me, I was happy to be there to sign the check. The smiles, the company, the excellent service. WORTH IT! As for the food, not the thing which would call me back... However, I highly recommend a try..
Came here yesterday (6/24/24), I will speak of the good: Great ambiance, the waitress we had was very attentive and focused which is always a plus. We were seated near the bar, for appetizers, we ordered the meatballs and octopus, for the main course we ordered the white lasagna and the pork osso buco. The appetizers were amazing and I must say that the flavors of the octopus really blew my mind. There is nothing better than the flavors being perfectly balanced to the point where your pallet goes crazy. As a Chef, I love being surprised with flavor, and this took my breath away. Smokey, sweet and beyond tasteful. It left me trying to figure out each ingredient. The meat balls were perfectly made, with the right amount of sauce. Nothing better than being able to taste the meal when it's not over powered by sauce. I highly recommend those two appetizers. The (Not So) Bad: Well, we had reservations that we made weeks ago, when we got there there were only two options, one was a seat close to the bathroom, and the other was by the bar. We sat by the bar, which wasn't that bad, but not easy for someone to sit at (High Bar Stool seats) when they have a dress on. They had no diet soda at all, not even in cans. When dinner arrived, the white lasagna looked as if it was over cooked. Now, with that said, I don't know if that is how it's supposed to be, but it was definitely over cooked and hard to cut. What was able to be eaten was indeed tasty and flavorful, but it was hard to cut and chew the outer and bottom layers of the lasagna. The pork was very tender, but did not have any flavor, it surprisingly lacked and I was shocked. The white polenta was amazing, but it was a small amount that they gave, I would have expected slightly more than just a layer (bed) of it. For dessert we had the rainbow cookie tray, which was a deconstructed version of cookies in a cake form served with sauce, ice cream and chocolate. It was different indeed, something that I will not order again as the ice cream serving were small, they melted right away. And I was expecting a strong Italian rainbow cookie taste which just wasn't there. With that said, it was still a great experience, and I will definitely try it again for sure as I saw other options that I wanted to try. And we were able to see a table get a whole pig which was amazing as the pig had a crown on. Would I recommend this place? Yes indeed....
I see why this place is all the rave! I came for Saturday brunch. Brunch includes app, entree, desert, brunch punch and some little bites (these you can pass on) that are passed around. The brunch punch this day was a sangria which was light on flavor and sweetness. I had the meatball and egg for my starter it was scrumptious!! Was in the mood for a burger but they have far more better offerings. The burger patty could have been a little bit bigger it was served with goose fat potato’s which as you can imagine were yummy. I’m looking forward to returning and trying other items on their menu. It seems their suckling pig is a big hit as well as their bone marrow and waffles.
My first thought after this meal was over was that this place absolutely has five-star potential - it has a super interesting brunch menu, a competitive price point and hard-working staff. It's not quite at the level it needs to be overall, but it's tantalizingly close. I stopped by with one of my chums this past Saturday for brunch at the midway point of our Croton Aqueduct hike. Very interesting interior, with a few random eclectic items like the wild boar head on the wall that I obviously had to take a photo of to accompany this review. Would love to know the back story of that creature. I was a big fan of the brunch prix fixe menu - for $40, you get three courses (an app, entree and dessert), PLUS a boozy brunch cocktail. Really not bad. We both ended up getting a second cocktail in addition to the inclusive one, and we noticed quite a few nearby patrons did the same as well. Win-win for the restaurant, and a rare moment in this inflationary environment where you're getting some legit bang for your buck. I went with the fresh mozzarella app, the radiatore/lamb bolognese entree and the chocolate polenta dessert, along with their bellini, which was more apple cider than peach. Loved the bellini - very unique twist on a classic. The mozzarella was sensational, probably one of the top two or three I've had. It's a little tough to eat without looking like a barbarian, but the toasted bread it came with was surprisingly easy to chew/consume with the mozzy. The obvious direct comp for North Jerseyers is Porta, which has a very similar dish at all three of its locations - this one is better. The radiatore was the low point for me - palate preference-wise, the pasta was a little too al dente, and I was not a big fan of the sauce, which was mostly strands/chunks of tomato versus an actual sauce to help moisten the dish. The lamb chunks were very good though; it's spicy, flavorful and tender. I honestly wasn't even sure what polenta was, but when the waitress told me it was basically a bowl of s'mores, I was in. Normal s'mores for me loses its novelty pretty quickly, usually after three or four bites. It's safe to say that this held my attention throughout. Delicious and after three decent courses, the perfect portion size. The service was pretty hit or miss - it was clearly a very busy time of day for them and it wasn't unusual to see an employee hurriedly dashing from one section of the room to another; the wait times we did experience clearly were not the result of a waitress goofing off on her phone or anything. But when we sat down, we were told that multiple people would be assisting with our meal, which was a little eyebrow-raising but not necessarily a red flag or anything. But because the assigned individual literally changed constantly, there were a few miscommunications that could have been avoided. For instance, one person told us at the beginning to be sure we knew what we wanted for the app and entrée (not the dessert yet) when the next person stopped by. That next person asked for all three of our selections. It wasn't a huge deal, but this is something that wouldn't have happened if we'd had one assigned, consistent staffer. The service was very good early on, but unfortunately steadily declined thereafter. The apps were out almost immediately, within five minutes. The entrees took significantly longer (though in their defense, five minutes is a tough bar to reach), as did the dessert, but then it took another 25 minutes to get the check. With numerous people assigned to us at random parts of the meal, it was almost impossible for everyone to remember their roles. I think they just overthought and overcomplicated their system, and they'd be much better off assigning one waiter or waitress to a particular group of tables. A lot of the food was really good with some creative twists. The potential is here, but The Cookery needs to remember that the intangibles win the day.
Came for brunch on a Sunday. Incredible service and big portions at a great price. $120 for 2 ppl with tip. The brunch menu included 1 choice of bloody Mary, Mimosa, or Bellini; 1 appetizer, 1 main, and 1 dessert. My wife and I left that place FULL. The Pizza Rustica was probably my favorite dish. Its like a Chicago Deep Dish slice but with perfectly placed spicy salami through the layers. My wife got the hash brown. It was nice and crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. For my main I got the lamb bolognese and my wife got the Pacherre. Perrfectly cooked Al dente pastas. The Stickabuttapie pie was the perfect palette cleanser. For my dessert. I didn't need dinner that evening we were so full. 🤣 I like the vibe there. It feels very homey and welcoming not pretentious at all. Lots of families hanging out. There's outdoor seating. Parking wasn't too hard to find. Will be coming back for the bar and for the burger they ran out of. 😋
It’s one of the Westchester’s little gem. Went here a few times now (happy hour/dinner) and the food is consistent. The pork is always good but the rigatoni always hits the spot! They have no parking lot so street parking may be a little tricky especially at dinnertime. The atmosphere is ok, as well as the service.
Good brunch option in Westchester. Tons of street parking in walking distance. We had a reservation for the opening but the restaurant was empty at 1130. By the end of our meal, it did get fairly busy. Brunch is only pre fixe - which includes a starter, entree, dessert, and a drink (mimosa, coffee, soda, etc.). We started with the mozzarella and hash brown. Both were fairly large portions. The hash brown was fried well and pretty tasty with their egg/veggie sauce. Mozzarella was homemade and coated with balsamic/olive oil. Entrees were the ricotta pancakes and the BEC. Their bacon was super crispy - my one small complaint would be they used a fried egg instead of a runny one. It was slightly hard boiled in the center but it would have been 10/10 with a runny yolk imo. Pancakes were delicious, great texture, and topped with strawberries. Finished off with the affogato and chocolate/Marshmello desserts. No complaints here. Overall a solid meal and we'd happily return with others for brunch/dinner.
We came here the other night for our first night without kids in a long time. We have eaten here since The Cookery opened, had a party here, and rented The Doughnation Food truck. So clearly, we are fans. However, last night made me feel like we aren’t missing out. Though the staples are consistently great, pork osso bucco, meatballs, and stickabutta, the menu has become boring. The quality is evident in the charcuterie board, but nothing on the menu screams “That looks special, I want to try that”. I still think about the beef heart dish I had on bone marrow garlic crostini from years ago. Nothing current comes close. The bartender was great and didn’t rush us through our meal. They need to adjust how they write the specials board as there was confusion over dessert. It looked like there was a blueberry cheesecake option because the sauce listed on top was much lighter, making you think the pound cake was a separate dessert. Apparently, it was all one thing. Finally, whoever was messing with the playlist, needs to stop. The music kept stopping and starting, changing genres, and repeating artists. It was like two staff were fighting over songs. I miss the Gen X playlist that ranged from Pearl Jam to Salt n Pepper. We would probably only go back when craving specific staple dishes.
The is during COVID so maybe the experience is typically different but my experience here was ok. The waitress was great, informative and welcoming. The food itself was a mixed bag. The doughnut, which comes with pork, would have been better if they weren’t so skimpy with the pork, as the pork itself was tender and flavorful, but the doughnut drowns the pork with every bite you take. We also had the steamed oysters that were solid, nothing out of this world, but good. They could give you 2 more to feel worth it or get a better bread to compliment it. The entrees were the linguine with lemon and sausage that was very rich and heavy, overall very tasty but could go with a bit less cheese or a bit more lemon. The Burger with goose fat potatoes was the biggest miss for me. The potatoes for overcooked and beyond hard and the burger itself was just a burger that flavor matched a whopper. Don’t want to be harsh but just thought there would be a bit more flavor.
Food was really good. They had a few items that were adventurous (some kind of "doughnut") that were surprisingly good. There was an issue with the service though. My wife and her friend ordered steaks based on what was on the chalk board. They ran our of that steak and gave them a different one. They didn't like the cut of meat that came out and had to wait for another meal to be cooked. The staff was apologetic but did not comp their dinners. We ordered 4 dinners, 3 appetizers, 8 drinks, and maybe dessert (4 ppl). Actions speak louder than words so saying sorry doesn't really cut it. Food was a 4 but the way they handled this (and also charged us for an extra drink) was a 2....so I give a 3. Also based on that, even though the food was really good, we won't go back. There's too many good restaurants out there to go back.
Food was very mediocre in my opinion, osso bucco is basically just a fried turkey leg from a carnival...(never have had it prepared this way)
As someone who has worked in hospitality for 25+ years, I understand that mistakes happen — but the way a restaurant staff responds in these circumstances is what defines their service, and The Cookery failed. We arrived at 4:35pm on a Saturday and sat at the bar. After taking time to ask questions and decide, we ordered apps and entrees from our bartender around 4:45pm. It wasn’t until after 5:15pm that he noticed that we still hadn’t received any food. Upon checking with the kitchen, it was established that our ticket went missing and none of our food had even begun to be prepared yet. After explaining this to us and apologizing, he let us know that they would do everything possible to get our food to us as ASAP and also send us something to hold us over in the meantime. This response was good in theory. Unfortunately, I have some very limiting food restrictions. I am not celiac, but if I eat too much wheat, I get sick for days. I’m also lactose intolerant, but I know from experience that butter and hard cheeses don’t affect me as much and I indulge in moderation when circumstances allow. I do not typically give all of this information to a server, as it’s a lot to burden them with and cross-contamination is not an issue for me. But for the record, we were never asked if we had any dietary restrictions. I shared all of that, because the item they sent us was toasted bread with whipped ricotta cheese on it, and that was definitely not something I could eat. When the food runner dropped it off for us, I mentioned that I couldn’t eat it, and motioned for them to set it in front of my boyfriend. It was a nice gesture to be sure, but no one communicated that I couldn’t eat it to the kitchen, and it was exactly one hour after we sat down that the appetizer I had ordered for myself (salmon collar) finally arrived. Additionally, when my BF tried the crostini, it was burned on the bottom — and when the baked clams arrived, they tasted so awful we didn’t eat them. And when the bartender asked if he should clear them, and asked if they were good, I replied that they were not — but that was met with silence and no follow up questions to establish what was wrong with the item. Just before 6pm our pork Osso Bucco arrived, which was delicious. However, we needed to be on the road by 6pm, so I asked someone to please box it up for us. Additionally, I asked them to order us a stickabutta pie to go. We paid soon after that, but I was shocked that they charged us for our appetizers that arrived between 45-60 minutes after we ordered them, simply because that is an egregious amount of time — but also additionally, because the clams went untouched (another red flag) and the recovery appetizer was not able to be enjoyed. Essentially, because of this mishap with our lost ticket, we sat at the bar for one hour for the inconvenience to bring our food home and reheat it ourselves. At no point did a manager come over to check in on us or offer any kind of recovery. Again, mistakes happen, but how a team responds is everything — especially if you are a Michelin-recommended establishment. I do not recommend.
A slightly disappointing experience, but adequate none the less. As we entered the staff sat us down and was cordial. We'd asked for drink options including the single malts and they took the time to write them down and give us a rundown of the selection. The cocktail we'd ordered was also quite well made. It Unfortunately went down hill from there. For starters we'd ordered the crostini and the "octo nugs" (slices of octopus). The crostini were well made and the ricotta and honey they chose was of high quality, but the octopus was noticeably overcooked and quite rubbery despite being somewhat seasoned. We did have to wait a while though as they provided us with no plates at first. The mains were really what left us with a bad taste. The pasta was somewhat bland, and the sandwich was so poorly put together that I had to pick out the meat to eat it as I felt bad throwing it away. Unfortunately the fries (which has been recommended as the better of a few options) were effectively inedible. We ate a few and left the rest as they were either somewhat old or just fried in to oblivion. A cozt atmosphere and an attentive enough staff. 4 drinks, 2 starters and 2 mains ended up ringing at 150 USD. Not horrific, but not warranting of the praise or outcome. I suspect it may have just been a bad night and I may try them again at some point, but no time soon.
We were really excited to eat here as we’ve heard such great things about The Cookery, but we were underwhelmed. The service was slow and the food was a little too experimental for us (the meatballs were undercooked - maybe that’s just how they’re made). I ordered the Crispy Pork Belly and it was overpowering and had too many spices. On the positive front, the staff were nice, pleasant ambience, and the brunch prices are affordable.
Inhospitable hospitality. I was entertaining a client from out of town and had a reservation. I told the host that we would be ordering drinks and small plates. He told us - rudely - that the table I had reserved was not for ordering small plates but instead only entrees (huh?). We asked to sit at a high top in the bar area instead, but he said we had to be finished and out in an hour (?). We ordered and got our food (meh) and when we tried to order dessert were rushed out and asked to move to yet another table. The server herself was lovely - but the host - just awful. The bill for two was still over $100 for an incredibly rude experience. This place used to be nice - if cramped. Now it’s just unpleasant. Which is unfortunate.
WAY over salted and raw, uncooked branzino entree. Clearly the chef takes no pride in his work and they don’t seem to care to make it right. See below. Octopus appetizer was the only good dish we had. The escarole Caesar salad had literally 1 anchovy. The dish was basically good but since my wife and I split the dish it was noted that once I served her a portion with an anchovy I then couldn’t find another for me. Whatever, we let that pass and are still excited for what’s coming next. Then the casarecce with funghi arrived and when they say to salt the pasta water like the sea they do not mean to salt the entire dish like the Dead Sea! We had waited quite a while for this so I was hesitating to send it back but it was just inedible. The waiter asked us to choose another pasta so we ordered the cauliflower ravioli and wouldn’t you know it, the salt shaker had fallen into this dish also! But we just didn’t have the heart to say anything so we swallowed it down and just assured ourselves they were going to turn it up on the entrees. This is where the chef really showed his true colors. Out comes the branzino for my pregnant wife and the pork sandwich special for me. She takes a bite from the outer edge and is pleased then flips the top half over and the inside of the fish is not undercooked, it’s TOTALLY RAW! I don’t see how a chef with any level of dignity can serve this dog food. We told the waiter to just take it off the bill, please don’t try to “refire it”. The food was obviously not tasted before served. The Cookery had come highly recommended to us by friends but it seems this place had its day, used to be good when the owner, chef, and front house staff cared but now they’re just riding the wave of past success. Now they’ll just turn out whatever. I would be embarrassed to work here. Our waiter was also bartender tonight and seemed to care but was also busy with other stuff. But nobody else seemed to be really paying attention. This was not marginal mistakes. This was grossly over salted food and absolutely no attention to the fish entree. My pork sandwich was ok but also over salted and light on the broccoli rabe. Our waiter told us he “took care of the fish entree”. Well thank you for not charging us for a raw entree that my wife took one bite of and then went without anything because we’ve lost our patience with you all. Then he asks us if we’ve left room for dessert. Really? You guys aren’t going to comp us at least a dessert after all this ridiculousness?? No, no thank you. We’ll just take the bill and run far from this place.
Came once a few years ago and sat outside. Came recently for lunch for my moms birthday. Both times the food was just not great. I don’t understand all the good reviews. There’s barely anything on the menu that sounds appetizing. The sandwich was borderline disgusting. The osso buco was ok. The dessert was a cookie pie.. what came out was a barely baked brownie in a pan that was literally sludge. I tried to like this place but I will never come here again.
