We showed up for a nice valentines dinner. When we arrived i could tell it had been crowded for most of the day and had just begun to slow down. Amidst the pace change we got a little delayed for service and began to worry the experience would not come to par. Apologetically they came to us and said they had lost our appetizer in the kitchen and that it would be along shortly. Again we were worried. Then the big one. When my lovely valentine ordered her long awaited crab legs they let us know that they had already put away the boil equipment. When my date began to cry at the thought of not getting her valentines crab legs, meg and kat sprung into action. They not only took care of the total bill but they drug the boil equipment out and got the kitchen staff to boil up double her order of crab legs. Oh and let me tell you the flavor and presentation of all of the food we received was absolutely wonderful! So a special thanks from me to all the wonderful staff at dodies keep up the good work and awesome food!
Oh my goodness!!! This place is phenomenal. The location, the service, the food, all just absolutely top notch. We had a party of 4 tonight, and instead of the usual dinner banter, a lot of our conversation was about how good the food was. We spent a good bit of time sampling each other's plates and just enjoying all of it. The inside completes the Cajun look and while festive the atmosphere was quiet enough for table conversation. The server was on top of her game with both timeliness and knowledge of the menu. Oh God then the food came out. To say it was amazing would be to short change the entire meal. We have found our new spot in Rockwall, I would encourage everyone to give Dodie's a try. I'll bet you love it as well!
The team of Brie and Starr, we're great! The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was wonderful as well. We had a party of 10 and everyone was awesome! Thank you for a great time!
I'm a legit Cajun. Born and raised. I'm always skeptical of "Cajun" restaurants in other states, and rightly so. This one is REALLY good!! I got a dish called Taste of New Orleans and I can tell you that it is SPOT ON!! Staff was wonderful and the place was cool. Love the location. I will definitely be back!
We tried this place for our anniversary and were greeted at the door and seated right away. Our server James came by and got our drink orders. First off I would say this place is more Creole (New Orleans) style food. We ordered the Crab Cakes and Cajun Torpedoes both were very delicious and tasty. But the Fried Green Tomatoes were just the the best. The Cajun Torpedoes had a little spice. When then ordered a pound of boiled Crawfish which came out perfect. The corn was cooked perfect, sometimes this will be overcooked but not here. The potatoes were just right and the sausage was delish. The Crawfish the star of the show. Cook to perfection and had a nice spice level. Our server James was fantastic and was very helpful and knew the menu very well. We found the restaurant very clean as were the restrooms. I see us returning again and again. Reminds me of home in New Orleans. Cannot wait to return.
Excellent location! Very near the lakefront, lovely patio. The staff were great, the service was prompt. Everything we had was fresh, crisp, full of flavor. The green tomatoes and fried pickles were awesome! The kids loved their catfish strips and fries. The crawfish po boy was also very fresh and had great flavor.
Dodie's Cajun Restaurant, located in the Harbor at Rockwall, is a nice taste of great Cajun seafood. I had not been there in over 5 years but I had talked about going all the time. Last night, we decided to have a late dinner there. My husband had never been there before. We were seated very quickly, no wait, but like I mentioned, it was a late night dinner avoiding crowds. We were seated in a large padded booth that had small TVs with sports playing. We asked to change the channel to which the hostess, with some help, did very quickly putting on an old college football championship. We started our evening dining experience with a dozen chargrilled oysters smothered deliciously in garlic, seasoned too perfection paired with the most delicious garlic bread I've ever had. These were a great start to our meal. We placed our entree order with our delightful waiter. I wanted crabcakes but also wanted the shrimp and grits, so I ordered them both. My husband had wanted the fried oyster dinner, but unfortunately, they were out of oysters. However, our brilliant waiter, James, suggested that he try the Seafood combo that had a nice mixture of fried catfish and shrimp that included Cajun seasoned French fries. He also wanted the crabcakes as well so ordered as well. I'll start with my meal. The crabcakes were meaty and lightly baked with not much filler. They paired well with the shrimp and gouda grits. The grits were delicious with the added gouda, and the shrimp were plump and meaty. However, shrimp included the tail, which I would have preferred served off the tail. My husbands meal was also very delicious. The fried catfish was seasoned perfectly and lightly fried as well as the shrimp. The Cajun fries were cooked crispy the way they should be. By the end of the meal, we were stuffed and happy passing on dessert. The dessert menu looked very tempting. They do have a full bar that offers awesome Happy Hour prices, but I don't think that applies on weekends. Check on daily hours of operation. Dodies also has a wonderful patio that looks out on Lake Ray Hubbard. The patio is very festive, with party lights hanging above. Our waiter, James and the other staff were very nice and efficient. The manager came around several times to make sure everything was going well. It's the little things that make a great meal enjoyable. Parking is in the big lot, which can be problematic at times. Another reason we go late. There is not enough handicapped parking, but they do have it. The location is easy to get too off of I30 East Side service road and also Summer Lee Drive at the Harbor closer to the Hilton. I did not use the ladies' room, but my husband used the Men's room and said it was clean. Our dinner at Dodie's was a wonderful, fun dining experience, and it will not be another 5 years before we return. Update- Returned tonight had fish tacos, gouda grits and a side salad. Tacos were marginal would skip next time. It's always nice to try something different everytime I visit. Service was still excellent. I added additional pictures.
Awesome Place! My first time here and I will admit it was great! From service to atmosphere to food; all perfect! I do not eat meat so I was worried I would leave hungry; but that did not happen. I had steamed veggies, smoked grits, and hush puppies! Let me say that the grits were amazing! Smooth and tasty! Our waitress was super sweet and helpful. Far too often when people find I do not eat meat they act different, but she did not. This was refreshing. Every person at our table enjoyed their food and the atmosphere was warm, cheerful, and welcoming. I totally recommend them!
Enjoyed my first time here Friday 5/11/23- staff was very friendly, sat outside and enjoyed the view of the harbor. We ordered two different pasta as well as stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, all was delicious.😋 While waiting we tried the Dodie’s lemonade (vodka drink) as well as margaritas. I must say I liked the lemonade but the margaritas hit the spot. Waiter was friendly, sadly I forgot his name after all those delicious margaritas 🙈 but he was professional and apologetic for service being a little behind. Good news we kept those margaritas coming so I honestly didn’t notice 😂
The sausage tasted funny and the corn was very overcooked. The hushpuppies were the best I have had anywhere. The waiter was awesome. In my opinion the music was too loud, but no one with me thought that.
Cool spot to grab some food and drinks. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the outside vibes. The drinks were good and although I didn't eat anything special, the fried fish was pretty good. Our waiter was great and attentive.
I love their location, and the ambiance is exceptional. Very friendly and helpful serving staff. A bit slow day, but they gave me my space. Enjoyed the Gumbo, tried coffee (light and sweet flavor notes) and ordered the chicken breast over rice and veggies. Came out looking great, generous portions sizes. 1 piece of.chicken was tender and flavorful. 2nd one... well not too good. I shared with my waiter, they resolved the issue with a partial credit. If it would have been same quality as first 5 stars. I was there for about 45 minutes and it was pleasant, sat on patio overlooking lake.
Sunday on the water. Popped in for some Étouffée. Fried crawfish/etouffee combo. Calimari for starters. Decent portions. Calimari lacked flavor. Crawfish combo was the same. First appetizer picks , “sold out”. First two picks of bottled beer, “ sold out “…. Settled for draft. Meh! ( weird taste ).Great service. Great atmosphere as well. 80 bucks for two with tip. Can’t say I’ll return. Shout out to Tobasco! Lake view was awesome. Was a beautiful day in Rockwall. Ain’t mad at ya!
The food was delicious. But the servings of sausage, corn, and potatoes for any of the boil items were extremely overpriced. We paid $5.99 to add sausage to our crab and got a piece of sausage no bigger than 1 inch. Plus $4.99 for corn and potatoes and we got one small potato and one half piece of corn. Unfortunately our service was also lacking in some areas… had to ask for lemons multiple times, water multiple times, and they only brought out part of our food then it took another 10 minutes to get the rest.
This was the worst cajun food experience I have ever had. The environment was sort of gross, the margs were sugar bombs, and every piece of food, from the crawfish to the veggies had freezer burn scorch marks and the taste in tow. Our server was a fantastic lady and the service was pretty impeccable, aside from the food. Things aren’t terribly overpriced, but you’re definitely not getting your bang for your buck. Wish me luck! Those jumbo shrimp with freezer marks might come back to bite me tonight in my bathroom!
I'm starting to lose faith in the food in Texas. EVERYTHING here has been nasty, compared to the restaurants in Chicago. I gave this spot a try and was so disappointed. I ordered the blackened red fish, crawfish etouffee, and seafood gumbo. The fish was dry, the etouffee was salty, and the gumbo lacked seafood. I literally paid for a cup of rice. The environment was nice, and the staff was friendly, but that's about all I can say.
Ordered a deep fried turkey for Thanksgiving Day with no sides, $86 after taxes. All I can say is if I wanted a dry axx turkey I would’ve cooked it myself. When I hear “deep fried” I think crispy skin. Nope, it was a regular smoked turkey that needed to be reheated at home in the oven, which is fine but I’m more upset it wasn’t crispy. It’s a good thing no one liked their first bite because it was a such a tiny turkey and would’ve not been enough to feed 5 people if it were actually good. Such a waste of money. Better off getting a rotisserie chicken from Costco.
Not pleased at all with my food. It was like they threw it all together real fast. I didn't know what was what. For the amount of time I waited , it wasn't even hott. Soup well I took one spoonful and I threw it out . I drove far for this meal Very very disappointed. I'm not saying the restaurant is no good , I'm just saying my things I ordered were not good. Maybe because it was near closing time and they were in a rush. But I did end up throwing out everything. .
I did a to go order and I was honestly very disappointed. Going to a Cajun restaurant, I expected bold flavor, but the catfish meal was extremely bland. There was absolutely no seasoning anywhere in the food, aside from on a couple of fries. This was my first visit, and unfortunately, it left me unlikely to return.
My first time visiting I was wanting Cajun food on Saturday February 21st 2026 and not wanting to travel all the way to Dallas. First thing that caught my eye was the crawfish Etouffee. This meal comes with their spicy slaw which was not good what so ever and not really spicy, more like Caucasian Kimchi. the Etouffee was not that flavorful the brown paper bag roux was not Cajun enough, literally. We also tried the Cajun Cocktail that was more like a disgusting shrimp crawfish ceviche with weird cocktail sauce "sweet" nasty sweet! Even the Louisiana hot sauce on the table they provide was disgustingly sweet and not hot. Bless their new restaurant coming to Greenville, Texas. I feel it wont last long enough here, but hey at least the rent will be cheaper than Rockwall!!!!
I hadn't been here in a while, went on Sunday and it was awful. The bacon on the shrimp brochette was literally raw and the house salad was brown and old. Kitchen staff couldn't even be bothered to remove the veins from the jalapeño in the torpedoes. If you want them spicy, you add the seeds back in. Finally their "dirty rice" was not that at all, it was more akin to Caribbean rice. All and all, this place isn't what it used to be.
This place was disgusting the waiter was slow who serviced a party in we was there first the dishes in the cup had food particles on the cup the food was not cook well at all we paid $134 with a tip for nothing highly disappointed!!! Will not be back in my stomach hurt so bad our food was serviced any kind of way horrible experience
We did an order to go because we were at Sideways having a couple drinks. The kitchen closed at 10pm. Not impressed with the French fries, the Gumbo I don’t even know how to describe it and fried green tomatoes were not cooked all the way. They were like flash fried so not a great meal and it’s a Friday Night and now everything is closed. No Thank you!! Super disappointed that I ordered food to go! Won’t go back! I went in and ordered food. This was not a delivered order to my house.
For a seafood restaurant it does not meet the standards for “sea food boil”, the shrimp was dry w no flavor, it looks like they only sprinkled the seasoning on top. The corn tasted like they took it out the bag & heat it up on the microwave. The Tilapia was cooked in some parts, some of it was fully cooked & other parts were chewy. The only highlight of our dinner was the fries & the drinks. Although i will say that the service was good, despite the food being terrible, the workers were coming in to check in to make sure everything was good. Overall, i would not recommend this place for sea food boil, they are better options in the area!
