Between the ginger salad and the yum yum sauce, this is my favorite place for Japanese Steakhouse! Guaranteed great service and delicious food - although at times hard to get a seat and frustration waits.
This place is amazing the food is always great and Samantha the manager is always on point she interacts with every customer that walks in...thanks Samantha and she talks us in our language
Love this place so much. Used to go here every birthday or event with my family.
Can I have a side of food with my Yum Yum Sauce please? This place is awesome, stylish and of course YUMmy.
Love this place. Great food and a fun atmosphere even for lunch.
Been coming to Genji for decades, love the food, atmosphere, and staff. Always delicious.
Amazing service fun entertainment good for special occasions and over all it's great
Love this place! Great for the kids too! Always enjoyable.
One of the best japanese seakhouse in the state! Great food
Good amount of food for your money and deilicous food. The filet mignon melted in my mouth.
This is one of the best hibachis that I've ever been to. The food is great and the staff are very friendly and attentive, and the chefs always put on a good show. Great place to go with your whole family, and your kids will definitely enjoy themselves as long as they aren't afraid of fire.
I have been here multiple times. Food is always good, it is always clean and everyone is always very nice. Last night, though, they went over the top. My husband and I came here after being VERY disappointed in a restaurant we had reservations at and left before we even drank the water. We came to Genji because it was on the way home and have never been disappointed when we went there before. We were initially at the bar waiting for our table and we explained to the bartender (newer female) and another lady I assume was the night manager why were dressed so nicely. They felt very sorry that we were so disappointed. They talked with us, They ended up giving us a free small drink (shot for my husband) and really making our night improved. The night manager had even congratulated us on our pregnancy! They took a picture for us and were just so pleasent. It REALLY turned our night around. THANK YOU!!! We will continue to come back.
Food is great, service is great, and the atmosphere is great! However the seats are extremely uncomfortable, I get pretty gnarly back and shoulder pain and the chairs made me want to leave before I finished my meal, just a heads up to anyone else that has these issues!
Best Japanese steakhouse in Columbus. Yum Yum sauce is delicious do not be fooled by the knock off's at other locations. In my opinion the quality of meat is the best and the fried rice has a better flavor. I usually go with the Filet and chicken which is always great. I have tried the Lobster as well which was very good.
We visited for our 10 year wedding anniversary our chef was amazing he put on a terrific show food cooked perfectly drinks amazing they came and song happy Anniversary to us it was a nice treat as well we meet the nicest set of older gentlemen and sat and talked to them for nearly an hour and half after they cleared the table no one tried to rush us out they were say average busy most place are quick to rush you out because they aren't making big money not here the one man had never been before so they were very helpful answering his many questions going back tonight for my husband Birthday looking forward to another great experience
Love this place. The only thing I dislike is that it is closed Monday. I've eaten at quite a few hibachi style restaurants, west coast, east coast, all over - and this is by far the my favorite! Don't forget to mix your yum yum with sriracha, if you don't you're an idiot.
It was my birthday and me and my dad went out on like a daddy daughter date and they were so nice and kind and they singing happy birthday song I will recommend to go for something special like birthdays they have amazing fried ice cream
Best Japanese Steak House in Columbus. Always great service and always a delicious meal. With the lunch pricing, its not even expensive so you can't go wrong.
Great food and attentive waiters. The cooks put on a great show for kids as well. Usually busy on the weekend so make sure to have reservations.
Food was amazing and watching them make the food was even better, they should be known for their yumyum sauce and egg sauce. Very rich and delicious flavor.
Great food and service.
You can expect the same great food and entertainment as other Japanese steakhouses, but what sets this place apart is there yum yum sauce. It's one of the best sauces out there .
Fun little steakhouse awesome staff, smiling people and good food all make for a great meal. This place is well worth the money.
Perfect Father's Day, great meal, service was great, staff was attentive. I will definitely revisit. Chef was on point.
Genji's dragonblade eel was amazing, but I hear the owners are opening up a new restaurant called Hanzo. The chefs are required to know simple geometry before serving customers. Genji is with you. I need healing.
Good hibachi restaurant. Can get crowded on Fridays and Saturdays. Have cocktails and fairly good non-draft beer selection for hibachi restaurant.
Very cool atmosphere, a little more private than most hibachi restaraunts.
Good food and service, slightly expensive and decor is noticably worn and not kept up.
Very good food...staff not so great
Great interactive food experience. Nice Area to visit as well.
This place is really good for celebrations/groups. Prices are a little high (expect $30-40$), but that's to be expected for the fun atmosphere. Pretty good hibachi grill style food, and the entertainment as they cook is what makes this place special.
Food was very good. Loved that they have Egg Yolk Sauce...very few locations offer this. Restaurant was very clean and appealing
Chef Shige is amazing -- other chefs are hit or miss, and the service is rude at worst and so-so at best. Five stars for the food itself and chef if you go and request Shige, one star for the rest of the experience.
We had a reservation for 730pm, but didn't get soups and salads until 8, and the cook didn't come out until 815pm. All the food (which was delicious) wasn't ready until 840pm. I also ordered a wine and when i was finished, the server grabbed the glass super fast and ran away. Didn't even ask if i wanted another one. Which i did. So did another lady at my table who was celebrating an anniversary. The wait for food is getting worse and worse. I've been coming here for ages. The food is still very delicious and the cook does an amazing job. But the wait staff and long wait time are making me want to find a different place.
Delicious but Dirty. The actual dining room is dimly lit and for good reason. The building was newly acquired by Genji but they didn't do a very good job cleaning. The carpet looks older than the building ripped in spots and stained and Dusty all Round the Corners. Worst part however was the lighting and overhead rafters... They look like they have never been dusted! This is where the dirty part comes in, dust chunks literally falling down on our plates. Aside from the location... The food was wonderful. We were skeptic to eat at all based on how dirty it was but glad we did. I would give it 5 stars all the way for service and how delicious the food was if it was not for the Dirty Dining Room. We plan to go back in several months and hopefully their dining room will be cleaned up by then.
I've been to every hibachi steakhouse in the city and this one is just okay. They pride themselves on their yum yum sauce, which to my palette isn't so yummy. Even their fried rice is average. It's not bad, but for the price I would go to a different Japanese steakhouse.
I've been to Gengi's several times in my life. This review is me trying to view them through the eyes of someone new. If you've never been to a Japanese restaurant here in the states, be prepared to sit next to people you don't know or care to meet. You should feel lucky if they aren't annoying. Unless of course you're the annoying group. In that case, go to McDonald's. Nothing about their food or service will make you forget this. The cool thing about coming here is the chefs. They perform cool tricks with their cooking utensils, so it's a bit of a show. The newer you are, the better the show. They can tell you don't care about the show after you've seen it a few times. Less "ooooh's" and "ahhhh's" make for a very boring show, and become more of a "how fast can you get that on my plate, bud?" Also, get ready to experience double yum yum. You'll know what I mean when you get there.
7 pm can see full open tables across the floor but won't seat walk ins till after 830. Only reservations. Needless to say I have no reason to support a business that refuses people's money by sending them away or making them wait
How do you not have enough chefs on a Friday night and then pack over 10 ppl at a table I'm usually highly satisfied with the food and service but tonight im highly disappointed
First time visiting and it was probably the worst Hibachi restaurant I've ever been to. Where to begin... 1. Ordered our drinks. Asked for rum and sprite. Got sprite. Asked them to fix it. Still got charged for the sprite. 2. They only have 2 kinds of sushi (California Roll and something else). It was probably the worst I've ever eaten, and that's even considering being adventurous and trying some gas station sushi one time. 3. Their ginger salad was super bitter. My girlfriend and I both typically like the ginger salad, but neither of us ate ours. 4. The veggies they serve with the meal was cucumber and onion, not the normal variety of veggies usually served at these places (which typically include mushrooms and other veggies). 5. The shrimp and steak and chicken were all very salty. I think they use way too much soy sauce. 6. The waiter thinks his job is done when he brings your drinks/salad. Chef had to call them over a couple times to get rid of the bowls and such. Trying to get a refill is tedious. If you are looking for hibachi - I'd try someplace else. I seriously doubt it could be worse than this place.
Do not go Sundays near Closing. They are in a hurry and will not entertain you - simply make the food and leave the table. - I recommend that you close the doors ONE HOUR before you intend on letting your chefs go home on Sundays. Not up to your normal standard Genji.
I've been here twice. First time was standard. Second time, our party of 15 or so people ended up getting norovirus (with the exception a 2 or 3 people). 2 of the people catching norovirus ended up in the hospital.
Terrible service, server kept forgetting orders, and my car was broken into. The managers did nothing. Never come here. If I could give it zero stars I would.
So this was my first and last visit/ the waiter that we had was very rude / rush us when was ordering/ only to wait for a cook 20mins later/ the cook was great / Me and co-worker order chicken& steak. The chicken had a spoil taste and when I said something the manger she show no care in the world/ Also their was a couple that came after us that was served before us. That should have been my clue to leave this . But we stay ( sad). Than to top things off they charged me for something I didn't even eat. Will never go back to this place every again/ very bad place not worth you time or money/ Should read more rating
If I could give this place a zero rating, I would. I ate here on New Years 2.5 years ago and it put me in the hospital. I was in a party of 15 and we all got seriously ill. I ended up in the ER from too much vomiting and other symptoms (as did my 5 year old niece). The health department called me and I was diagnosed with noro virus. Sickest I've ever been in my life. Ruined my New Years and I was stuck with hundreds of dollars of hospital bills.
Food was good, comperable to other Japanese Steakhouses in the central ohio area......Although, service was pathetic!! My daughter didn't finish her meal, and asked for a take out box. The server decided to box the food at the table, and spilled food all over my daughter, didn't apologize, acknowledge, nothing....almost everyone at the table (people we didn't kow) said something to the server as it appeared she was slinging the food on my daughter on purpose. Will never eat there again!!!
They make you wait 45 minutes for your food then automatically include a tip. Guess we have to make sure all the extra staff drinking at the bar makes enough money. Ridiculous.
This place is not a Japanese Steak House. It is so bad. I will just tell you a few things. 1. My salad was frozen and they asked me would I like some soup instead...I said "No I would like a non frozen salad." 2. Their yum yum sauce is in a squirt bottle like it came off a truck and it is not good. 3. They do not serve veggies as a part of the meal. 4. (Probably most important) They cross contaminate the food. Cooking the veggies after they cook the steak on the same burner. 5. The fried rice is not made fresh it came out pre-made and they just warmed it up. 6. The place was ghetto cats out front smoking black and milds smh. People at the table just cussing and carrying on with kids all around. I usually go to Sakura at Easton for Japanese Steakhouse food so maybe I am just spoiled. I was in the Sawmill area during lunch time so I gave Genji a shot. I will never go here again that is for sure and if you reading this review I suggest you do the same.
Horrible wait times. Came in with a reservation, took 40 minutes to be seated. Waited another 50 minutes on top of that for a chef to show up. Started to eat at 10:20pm, with a reservation for 8:30!!! Don't bother.
You would think that for the money that you're going to pay to eat there, that you could get your food made the way u want it... But no you can't get your rice without vegetables unless the whole table does.. ok complete strangers have to agree that way I can have mine without it.. Are they going to pay my bill too.. will never come here again.. House of Japan is better anyways!!!!!
