Coming from Tecate to San Diego I always stop for a good bite at this place. Good as always! An update: today 2/17/26 I stopped for my usual hamburger combo. Some how I screwed up and ordered only a hamburger and a drink. So, I told attendant I was missing my fries. She checked and told me I didn't order fries. But then she said: let me give you some fries so you don't miss them. So. I said, no, no thanks. I took a table and started eating. Minutes later she came over with a free order of fries. What a sweet heart! It makes your day bumping into someone so nice. Before leaving, I went to the counter, thanked her again, and a left $100 tip. I couldn't leave without make sure she would feel good just as she did to me with her act of kindness and generosity.

When in El Cajon, stop in at "The Habit" for a most excellent dinning experience!! Fantastic Food, Service and Atmosphere. I recommend using the (Mobile 📱 Order) so upon arriving pick up and go!! I DON'T recommended using the (Drive Through) you will be waiting 30-45 minutes (or more especially on the weekend) in line and then have the headache of getting out of the parking lot!? Dinning in is nice but (mobile orders and to go orders) will have preference over in store diners. So may want to make that order to go!? The "Habit" will become your HABIT today!! We returned a second time adding the Hershey's chocolate 🍫 shakes to our order, WOW SUPERB!!☺️

First time here and wow I'm speachless. The staff and manager at this location are amazing. Felt welcomed as soon as we entered. Very clean and well managed. The food was also top notch. 5 star for sure, highly recommend the chicken club.

1st time visit, I grew up in Rancho San Diego an never had the opportunity to enjoy this burger joint. Glad they are back in my old stomping grounds. Delicious burgers and very filling. Hard to believe they been around since 1969 an I'm only hearing about them now. Open grill cooking concept similar to 5 Guys.

I have came here a few times since it opened and I have enjoyed it every time! I loved their kids char burger because I like my burgers plain. Their chicken bites are also very good and the restaurant is clean and modern. A big improvement from the Burger King that was there before! Overall, I loved this place and will be coming back often!!!

Double char burger 9/10: ordered from the kiosk and was able to customize. Good size, fresh, nicely prepared and seasoned. It could use more of a char taste. Onion rings/fries 10/10: i think the onion rings are the best i have had. Very crunchy yet light. Fries were well seasoned. Atmosphere 9/10: very large seating area. I dont know why they have parking in the back i had to walk all the way around. Service 10/10: no complaints Price $$: $13 for double burger and fries/onion ring mix.

I was very happy to see the Habit come to our neighborhood. The food was fantastic and I have a new favorite guilty pleasure... the burger on toasted bread. It was their version of a patty melt with avocado, and it was delicious!

Nice variety of burgers. Outstanding sushi grade grilled ahi tuna sandwich! Great chicken sandwiches both grilled and fried. Vegan options are wonderful and a nice variety of salads, French fries and sweet potato fries are nice compliments.

Ever since I had this place I haven’t been back to In N Out once! The service is amazing. Went on a Sunday night and the supervisor Jennifer I think gave us world class customer service! The food is fresh and tasty and the staff is awesome!

We love their hamburgers. Juicy, tasty, cooked right and great portions. They tend to be a bit pricey, though. Their fried green beans is a must try. Did a takeout, and we appreciate their quality control ensuring we our orders correct. This is something that is grossly overlooked by a lot of fast-food places and restaurants of which a couple of popular places are notoriously known for.

I love the Habit being from it's home Santa Barbara and I'm so happy to find them in so many locations. If I'm homesick I can go inside to see all the beautiful photos of home. The food is great, of course especially the SB Char and the SB Cobb, the fried green beans are delicious, the lemonades too. The fish needed something more and it can add up but it is so worth it. The drive through ( thru) can take forever sometimes but when you want a tadte of SB, it's worth the wait. Parking in Rancho San Diegi can be tricky but it's available and they also have curbside pick up in addition to the drive through.

I eat here regularly and the food is consistently real good and hot. We get our food fairly quickly. Sometimes have to look around for a clean table in the area I like to sit or I have to clean one myself, but it seems like they might be getting better cleaning the tables.

The problem is the food is never cooked as ordered. I have eaten there a few times. Both times I order well done I like my food cooked well done and hot. Both times food Is not hot and not cooked well done. The employees are nice and it could be good. It's just the orders should be cooked as ordered. That's not asking for much. To bad I will give them another chance and see what happens. Had the Veggie Burger and the Chicken Sandwich. The reviews are all complaining about the same thing. Under cooked cold food. So it's clear they need new cooks. The bottom line is it's fast food I prefer not to eat fast food and really don't. I tried the Veggie Burger and Chicken Sandwich oh well it's just another fast food Burger joint. 🍔 I think Burger King is the owner. No more fast food dumps needed. One more thing I want to mention is the Men's restroom is nasty. It needs to be cleaned at least two times per hour. The floors are very nasty and there is no reason to not stay on cleaning the Restrooms on a regular basis is a must. Poor Management all the employees need a plan of action. Can't blame the employees it the poor Management of this Burger joint. (07-27-22) I have eaten here a few more times I think it's getting better. I don't eat meat, the Veggie Burger and the Chicken Sandwich have been much better. Hopefully they will continue to improve.

The Portabella Mushroom burger was tasty , the fries were good but the deep fried green beans were awesome. But I ordered ice tea but they never put ice in the cup W.T.HELL is that all about ! Who in their right mind serves a cold drink without the ice or it even being cold to boot lmao . Service was good and very nice and friendly but hey news flash cold drinks are meant to be cold and with ice ok . This is at the drive through so check your goods before leaving lol.

Drive thu was fine just the typical problem communicating over the loudspeaker. Food was good as far as my Cobb salad. My wife like her char mushroom cheeseburger and side of sweet potato fries. The banana pudding shake was not overly sweet.

Fast food burger place that started in santa barbara years ago. Everything is made to order. I had the portobello mushroom burger. The sauces were nice. I haven't been I would definitely ask if they could cook the thin burger not quite so dry. My son had a combo plate cheeseburger. No complaints and better than the ones that keep things on steam tables. The fries were good.

I normally don’t visit this location. I placed my order on the kiosk and asked to leave a tip. A tip for getting of my seat and walking to the counter for my order. A girl hands me the tray. I asked “cup?” Most places forget to hand you a drink cup for self service drinks. She snapped back” hold on, it’s a process”. Food was good but the attitude was not welcomed.

Fairly new, in the old Burger King place. The char burgers, as well as the fries were very, very good. Being new, they need to work on keeping the dining tables clean. The bad part of our experience were the drinks. The self serve soda machine wasn't working, so went back to the counter to ask for drink. Got to table to find drink was all carbonation, no soda. Went back, got new soda. In addition, our 2nd drink, lemonade had a very strong chemical taste. This place has potential, and we will try again. Our hope is they work out these problem areas.

Food is always good, but very inconsistent. I've ordered the same chicken club a half dozen times, and it hasn't come out the same way twice. I always order to-go, and the condiments are hit and miss (usually miss) too. I finally learned to dig thru the bag to make sure everything is there, and it's never been right the first time. Don't bother with curbside either, I made that mistake once. I ordered curbside (recovering from the flu, so i didnt want to go in and infect others) for 6:20pm, and at 6:40pm I finally gave up and started to leave...right when an employee came out with my order....and it was stone cold. Good ingredients so the food is tasty, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired.

I ordered the barbecue bacon char burger and was shocked when I found that under the burger they put lettuce tomato and MAYONNAISE! 🤢 I mean even if I did like mayonnaise I don't think it would go well mixed with barbecue sauce would it? I assumed it was the owner working the counter that took my order and he replaced it with fresh fries and a burger like I expected with just barbecue sauce, bacon and cheese. He said that all of the burgers come with lettuce tomato and mayo and he pointed it out on the menu but it only says that under the Santa Fe burger not the others. He admitted that he should probably change that to make it more clear. Anyway, fries were really good but too much salt. My burger was fine but kind of small and for the price of $17 in change it wasn't t the most economical meal but this is the times we're living in.

Fresh, yes. Very pricey for what you get. On par with Burger King, but a bit more fresh. BBQ bacon burger poster shows cheddar cheese on it. Nope...that's $1 more for a single slice. Overall tasty.

Currently writing this review from the Habit drive thru. I’ve been here for 15 minutes and the line has not moved. Not once. At this point I feel like I live here and should start paying rent. I had to pull up to the speaker to order, waited about three minutes in complete silence, and finally said hello. The response was oh do you need something. No, I just pulled up for the ambiance. Look, the food is good. That is the only reason I am still in this line with no escape route. But this drive thru situation is wild. Habit, I love the charburger, but ya have to do better than this.

I had high hopes for Habit Burger, but my recent visit left me disappointed. They’ve moved to a self-kiosk-only ordering system, which might seem like a step forward in efficiency, but it ended up being a frustrating experience for our group of seven. What should have been a straightforward process turned into a tedious ordeal, as the kiosks took much longer than anticipated. When you're hungry and looking for a quick meal, this added time is far from ideal. What made the experience even worse was the lack of visible staff. There were only three employees in sight, and despite the restaurant being nearly empty—just three other customers were there—it felt like no one was available to assist or keep the process moving smoothly. I had high hopes for Habit Burger, but my recent visit left me disappointed. They’ve moved to a self-kiosk-only ordering system, which might seem like a step forward in efficiency, but it ended up being a frustrating experience for our group of seven. What should have been a straightforward process turned into a tedious ordeal, as the kiosks took much longer than anticipated. When you're hungry and looking for a quick meal, this added time is far from ideal. What made the experience even worse was the lack of visible staff. I'm wish I could leave a better review, but nearly every order I get is wrong. Forgotten items, etc. Tonight I said easy mayo and the burger had EXTRA mayo. I don't think I'll be coming back. It's important to get orders correct, especially when food is so expensive.

I have tried this Habit Burger location five or six times. ONCE, I got my full order, well prepared. Otherwise, I get tempura green beans soggy, with no salt, OR so salty you can't eat them. It is different every time. I also got a chicken salad with a red, plastic bread tie that I discovered after I was eating my salad. Today, one of the sides I ordered was not in my bag. Since I am ordering for pick up or at drive through, the problem is not discovered until I get home. Yes, the lesson is to take the time to check the bag every time. However, I generally do not wait in line to taste each item, which is the main problem. You cannot speak to a manager. A phone system directs you to the website to leave feedback. Other Habit locations do a good job. The one on Jamacha Road does not. No more chances. I will never go there again.

I was so excited to try this place out. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. Ordered a burger on sourdough bread with bacon and avocado, onion rings, and a mocha shake with no whip cream. Order came and it looked good, at least the burger did. The onion rings were over cooked and almost burnt. The burger was cold and a couple of bites in tasted funny. The shake had whipped cream, after I specifically asked for no whipped cream. So I ate some of the burger and the over cooked onion rings. Ended up throwing the rest out. The shake was yummy at least. But a BIG disappointement overall. Save your money and skip this "Habit"!

A 34 minute wait time for 2 very average burgers and 1 undercooked fry is a big no thanks from me. I give it 2 stars because there was a great staff present. I'm pretty sure Talara was a bought review. Who does 30 pictures and a write up like that on a hamburger joint. Get real.

Took forever got the order wrong didn't eat anything all day was looking forward to my salad and couldn't enjoy it. Tried to call but didn't help. Lastley found a short light brown hair in my salad which was gross.Worst experience ever. Don't recommend the place.

Window service was good. Burgers were a mess. Assembled like the cook didn't care. One thing I asked for was no ketchup on the kid's burger. Had ketchup, kid didn't eat it. If you pay $17 for a meal everything should go between the bread. Not like they threw it in the box as if they were mad at you.

The food is fine. The, what I'm assuming is the manager, is not a welcoming individual. I've been here about 5 times in the past few months when he was working and he is consistently rude. I don't know if he hates his job, dislikes women with babies or just doesn't want to put the effort into moving around in a kitchen environment and is angry about it. The female cashier was pleasant and has been the few times I've interacted with her. It's a shame because the food is pretty good at this location.

This location always seems to be not up to the standard of most Habit restaurants. I placed an order for delivery. My burgers weren't prepared as I had ordered. I ordered regular fries and sweet potato fries, both of which were old and tasted like they had been sitting around for some time. All of this made for a very unpleasant dining experience. I would suggest another location if you are able to get there.

Ordered at the kiosk. I don't know if you can order at the counter, but I assume not because nobody greeted or acknowledged us. Ordered tempura avocado. Received tempura green beans. Asked for an exchange and was told they dont carry the avocados. I asked why the kiosk has that item available and she said the employees have no control over the kiosk. They did offer me sweet potato fries or onion rings. I asked for a refund on the item, as I was not interested in those. And then they told me they can't refund kiosk orders. Seriously? That makes no sense. I asked why they wouldn't at least put a sign on the kiosk, and they said they couldn't. If this is truly corporates policy, shame on them. That is setting the customer and the employees up for failure. I feel like The Habit just scammed me. Two stars because the burgers were good.

I’m disappointed that my veggie burger had a piece of hair and when they brought it to me you can clearly tell it was the guy with the cornrows hair who made direct eye contact with me not sure what the motive was here after asking for a change in order. No wonder the manager seemed like she was laughing.

Absolute garbage service. What's the point of offering curbside if the don't even deliver it curbside. Just call it "in store" pickup. I waited 15 minutes after checking in and nobody ever came out, my food was just sitting on the counter and when asked what the deal was, they said "oh we were waiting for someone to walk it out"

In the spirit of giving them the benefit of the doubt, I gave this location 3 chances. Each time they served me the wrong food in a condition that is unsafe for human consumption. It’s that simple. They are unable to safely cook food to order.

We came into the restaurant and only had 1 person in front of us ,it was empty.We were given great service from the cashier but it took them 45 min to finally get our meal ! I couldn't beleive it .They weren't short staffed at all , there was actually too many people doing nothing . I will never go there again.To top it off my fries were not evan hot .

The lady at the drive thru was extremely rude. This place has horrible customer service. Beyond disappointed. We got a ice cream cone and they didnt make it right. The same second she handed it to me, it spilled all over me and in my car. Then after 4 minutes of trying to get someones attention she comes back and says, "its just ice cream thats how it is supposed to be". Like what? You mean it's suppposed to be all over my car and me but the cone? Yah okay.

This place deserves ZERO stars. Ordered my food around 4 online to be picked up at 6 after my kids swim practice. Get there a little after 6 and I have 2 orders ahead of me. Ok, I wait. It’s now 15 passed and I ask what’s up with my order? Oh the lady accidentally gave it to another person. She says it like it’s no big deal. “I’ll just make you another order”. Uh, you think?! I also expected a refund and gave her the 4 digits of my credit card but I doubt I’ll see that returned back to my card. Terrible experience. Will report back on the food. Update: food is terrible. Salad had brown lettuce, burger was way overcooked and hard to eat. Fries were fries. I don’t think we will be back.

Very slow service! 🐌 be prepare to wait over 45 + minutes for your food. The dinning room was only a quarter full. Use the drive thru you may have a better chance getting your food quicker! Or go somewhere else.

By far the worst Habit location I've ever been too. They will over salt everything you order. I ordered 2 lettuce wrapped double chars, a kids chicken and fries and 2 regular double chars with fries. My lettuce wrapped burgers were pink and cold and my kids chicken was fried too hard like my kid could legit snap the chicken there was no way he could even eat his food. And ALL the fries were so soggy. I called and they said there wasn't anyone to talk to in management. And so I put in a request online. Still nothing, I called and left a voice mail for customer service, nothing it's been almost a week. I'm pregnant and my 2 lettuce wrapped burgers were not edible what's so ever. Go to mission valleys location you never have to ask them to properly cook your food their.

We went to The Habit in Rancho San Diego to eat tonight, 12/1/22. We went inside to order. There were 3 kiosks being used and it was taking them some time to order. There was no one at the counter, so we decided to order there. The restaurant was not busy. We waited for several minutes before finally being asked what we wanted. I stated that we would like to order. The young man said that he would not take our orders and that we would have to use the kiosks. By then there were several more people in line and the original people putting their order in were still there. Amazing, I have never been turned down to order food. I had a C/C, I had cash, just no service. I have to say that we have eaten here before and really enjoyed it. With their change of policy and customer service, I doubt that we will be back. I am still in unbelief...amazing. The only reason they are getting 1 star is that it won't let me post without clicking on it.

Very unappealing food. Looked very sloppy and gross, I took 2 bites and threw the rest away. Dont waste your money here. Canes across the street or eveb Sahara is much better option. Shake shack>habit burger 🗑

So I went in ro get a to go order. I was the only 1 there at 11 am. I got 2 Ahi tuna fish sandwhices , an order of fries, an order of onion rings, and a vanilla shake. It was almost $ 41 dollars. The guy was Latino. I could barely understand him. He could barely understand me. And the the pay thing suggests a tip. A medium tip was $7. And they hand you a pager ,as If you're at a resteraunt by the beach, and you might me too far away to know your food is ready. The pager goes off, while I'm 8 ft away. He sets my food on the counter and walks away. I picked up the food. A girl in the back said Thank-you. Realizing probably how rude he was. That's the last time I go. Which is the last thing a reseeaunt wants ro hear. Because that's how they fail. People won't return for bad service. Especially if it's overpriced.

Today at approx 3:00 I went through the drive thru and ordered a spicy crispy chicken sandwich. I was asked if I wanted a combo and I replied no thank you but I would like a coke. I was then asked , are you sure you don't want a fry? I appreciate the attempt to upsell but I was clear with what I wanted and said no already.i kindly teplied no thank you. I got to the window to pay and gave my card. I was asked if I ordered a sprite and I said no, a coke. I was given my coke which was followed by my receipt and food. I exited the drive thru and parked in a stall. I realized they gave me the wrong sandwich, a crispy chicken sandwhich. I looked at the receipt and aure enough the receipt had the wrong sandwich listed. I went back thru the drive thru and advised the rep that I received the wrong sandwich, that I ordered the spicy crispy chicken and not the crispy chicken. For the person reading this that is unfamiliar, they are two totally different sandwiches. I was then, to my shock, told "no, you ordered a number 9 which is a crispy chicken sandwich". Still in shock Isaid ," no, you'll recollect I did not order a combo, I ordered only a sandwich and a coke. In a nasty voice she told me to pull around. When I pulled up to the window I handed the rep the untouched and unopened sandwich whcih she took from me saying my sandwich would be right out. She had not noticed I had my receipt and my card kn my hand. At this rate I felt uneasy about the whole transaction and felt that the staff may do something to my food so I wanted a refund instead. I let her know I would like a refund. She left the window, I assume whole she staffed the manager, and returned advising me that I would have to give her my credit card number , name, and phone number so that she could hand write it down for her manager to process the refund. I exclaimed my concern about providing my credit card number for someone to write down for security purposes. She, again, left the window to consult manager Kathy. She returned to day she only needed the last 4 of the card, my first name, and phone number. Despite my curiousity abiut why they would need my phone number I gave the requested information. I was advised the refund should process today but that it may take a few days to hit my account. This was all a really unfortunate experience and disappointing because I enjoy this company's food. I think this experience is going to make me not want to come back.

Great food! Unfortunately the management is running this one into the ground. It took 30 minutes to get up to order the food in the drive through and another 15 to get to the window pickup window. I'm pretty sure the nice girl at the window was professionally trained to speed talk by the Micro Machine guy. It took 3 times asking her to repeat my order and correcting the mistakes only to get it handed to us incorrectly later. The VERY small order of fried green beans were supposed to have a spicy sauce on them that was missing and the Sprites were root beer. The coupon that I had clearly stated a free charburger combo with fries and a drink. The manager said they wouldn't honor it because it needed to have a barcode. It was never printed with an expiration or barcode. I explained to her that I had waited in the drive-through for 45 minutes and she said no no no and walked over to a computer screen. She corrected me stating that I had only been in line for 15 minutes. Her basically calling me a liar really got me upset and I insisted that they honor the coupon that they had printed. The manager said we would need to wait a few minutes so she could call the district manager for permission to discount my order. She then screamed across the restaurant for another female manager looking lady to call the supervisor. Long story long, really bad customer service and way to long to wait!

!!!HAIR IN MY FOOD!!! 12/27/24, 12:35pm I'm 7 months pregnant so my husband stopped to get me a SB Char since we had a long drive ahead (drive-through). After a little while when I decided to eat, I open the box and I see a black hair coming out from the side of my sandwich (disgusting!) About half my index finger long so I taught it was in the surface and as I pull the hair out! It was so long and inside the meat and It came out with cheese on it and food! It was so gross I got nauseated and almost threw up in my car! (I'm very sensitive due to me pregnancy and get grossed out easily) so long story short! I wasn't able to eat, and my drive through the mountains there was no food available. Unacceptable! Hygiene is very important and should be taken seriously! Workers should tie their hair up and still be expected to wear a hair net too! Hair in food is gross! I don't know when was the last time this person washed her hair, if she had a scalp sicknesses! This is so disgusting and Unacceptable! Shame on this location for not taking proper measures to prevent hair in people's food! IF I WOULD BE ABOE TO DRIVE BACK RIGHT AWAY THEY WOULD PROBABLY ASK "would you like me to remake it?" TO WHICH I WOULD RESPOND, "NO THANK YOU! WHAT TILL I EXPECT TO FIND NEXT! NAILS, EYELASHES, EYEBROW HAIR!" UNACCEPTABLE!

This is specifically for the new veggie burger. I was so disappointed when the impossible burger was discontinued because ut was so good and unfortunately I am a vegetarian. I gave the veggie burger a try anyway and I am now even more disappointed. Lost another good lunch spot.

Fast food workers have certainly gotten snotty lately. I stopped here to order food on the way home a d the lady at the speaker was ok but when I got to the window I got nothing but attitude like I was bothering her for ordering food and picking up my meal. I guess they don't want any customers since they get paid so much to do nothing. The food was prepared like they just didn't care, the wrapper was coming off, and the bag was practically thrown at me when it was ready. It's definitely not worth 15.00 dollars in my opinion. I will be going elsewhere for my fast food options thanks to this locations attitude.

Ordered food for me and my wife after she picked it up and arrived home the food was barely even warm. We live less than a mile away and the server said it was just made. Then how did it get lukewarm in a short time?

Eaten here around 50 times at 9pm or so, always full aware they close at 10. Today I guess I was too tan and homeless looking after spending the day in the sun as they debated in Spanish whether to allow me to eat in the restaurant or force me to take my food to go while many others were still dining in the restaurant. The couple that came in after me got no internal debate between employees about whether they should be served inside. Hope they enjoyed my $1000 or so in all my visits here because this was definitely my last. Don't worry. Managed to finish my meal before 2/3 groups that were in here before me and write this review before 915pm.

The food is good don’t get me wrong but the staff is so unbelievably rude and slow. I made a mobile order and despite it saying it would be done in 10 minutes it ended up taking more than 45 minutes which is absolutely ridiculous. The entire time the staff was giving dirty looks and overall just seemed to want to leave. Not to mention how they don’t properly speak up to announce the orders that are ready. I doubt I’d be coming again.
