Gives me a nostalgic taste when I bite into their slice. Always brings me back for more. One of my go to spots.
Excellent food, their decorations were nice. Their service was great and even took a picture and posted on their Facebook!
Iconic pizza place that has reopened after 2 years closed due to covid.
Real NYC pizza! Crispy crust and well balanced sauce and cheese. My absolute favorite!
Nothing like that good old fashioned mom n pop pizzeria. Delicious , well worth the trip
Very good service 15 dollar large pies and friendly staff and the pizza taste very good
Been going here since I was about 7, never had a bad experience. Hope they open up again.
So glad to see they’re back our favorite pizza in Elmhurst!
The best authentic pizza. Reminds me of my childhood. I stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood.
Best square in NYC Sue is great! This is a classic nyc slice. Such good pizza and vibe here.
Loved the ladies who run this show.. they are all positive ... full of energy .. nice environment. And when you are happy , food will obviously taste good.. 5 stars for the ladies..
This place has nothing fancy. Don't bother with drinks or asking for anything extra - just get yourself two regular slices, extra hot. Blot it with some napkins (you know whatta mean), and enjoy. They do one thing, and fortunately, they still do it well.
You have to check this place out even if you don't want pizza, the two ladies who own and run it are the nicest people I met while in America, definitely coming back if we visit America again. Legends both!
Great food, service, and vintage decor make this place a throwback to the times. You must stop in and support. Get a slice and take a step back in time.
Beat classic New York City slice - if you want to taste why NYC is famous for it's pizza visit this outstanding pizza destination.
Rated by group of enthuziasts as the best pizza in Queens. I agree. It has been around over 50 years run by the same family.
The best pizza in the area! My new favorite pizza place.
Best pizza in the area , always come out here whenever I’m in the area driving my bmw to meets
Been going there for 30 years, pizza is still the best in all of Elmhurst
Family on Pizzeria it's been around for a long time love to mother and daughter are making pizza great people great food
one of the most delicious pizza I ever had and they are fast too, the place is quite and cosy
The place was closed for a while due to the COVID crisis. Glad that they are open again & the pizza is still great! 👍
Simply the BEST!!! and not just for the Pizza..Such wonderful ladies that run the place.
Best Pizza!!! You can't beat the old school, thin crust slices that are served up here.
Legend slice spot. Love the two ladies that work there, mother and daughter still going at it strong. Always leave inspired
Honestly some of the best pizza I've had in my life
A great place to get pizza, this joint has been owned by the same family since the 1950's
Absolutely fantastic classic NY slice. A++++. Sicilian is also amazing. Must try.
One of the best slices I've had. I loved the sauce and crunchy crust.
I hope this place survives this year. Theirs is a quintessential example of a real New York slice, with a good balance of ingredients and flavors. The women who work there are kind and diligent—I’ve come on hot summer days, and they were braving the weather and oven with no air conditioning. The interior deserves protection as a historical landmark.
Took a trip back to our old neighborhood to enjoy what is still the best pizza in town! Lovely to see the ladies back in action. Delicious, thin crust, old fashioned pizza, YUM!
Food was excellent Service was good as the two aunties talked about the history about the pizza place and were really nice Atmosphere was great as you could smell the pizzas Underrated food spot in NY and definitely a must try
Classic pizza from a neighborhood family that's been around over 40 yrs!! Taste as good now like it did when we were kids! Enjoy!!
I'm really glad this pizzeria reopened. The slices have excellent texture and the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. In 2022, this is the best pizzeria in Elmhurst.
I remember when I was in St.Adalbert’s grammar school and my mother used to take me here. John’s pizza old school pizza & best around in queens
By far one of the best pizzerias/pizzas out there. You need to visit this place at least once in your life time. Great Workers too! love them.
Best pizza in the neighborhood. Got a medium one topping pizza and two sodas for less than $20. Crispy crust even after walking 10 minutes back home. We'll be regulars!
Walk into the past one of the best slices in New York been voted on the best chicken roll and the best sausage roll hands down this is an old school pizzeria ran by two older women that are wonderful when you go in ask for Grandma and Susan we lost them for 3 years they didn't open now they're back go and try slice it's like heaven
Best pizza!! Except a longer waiting time since it’s a very small business with 2 beautiful ladies working most of the time but is always worth the wait🫶🏼
On my last visit to the city we were stayed right on Bleecker and were a able to crawl into this place for a very hungover lunch. It saved my life. It was hot, cheesy and thin. Perfect NY pizza.
I really love this place, it’s like my secure place where I can seat feel comfortable and eat the best hawaiana pizza in New York
Great tasting thin crust pizza! Brought my kids from Long Island and they said it's the best pizza they have ever tasted! Better than Domino's! (Sorry Domino's.. )
I've been eating here at Johns for years & they always make the best pizza in the entire neighborhood. It's always a pleasure to go & have a quick bite to eat.
Great pizza and cozy atmosphere. The 2 ladies that work there are so nice and friendly. We go often after church, it's a great pizzeria!
The sweetest grandmas make the best neighborhood pizza here. Highly recommend if you want the real deal.
Rose and her daughter Susan are amazing women. It feels like we are with family when we go there! Happy 60 Year's of being in business!!
Got a plain cheese pizza and the slice was delicious! First time saw a picture and review of the establishment and I was craving to go! Haven’t had pizza in almost a year and this pizza was worth the wait and treat! It was delicious the crust, the sauce I really enjoyed it. Worth the 35min drive!
Loved their pizza pre pandemic and still love it even after they've come back. My family and I used to go around wondering if they if were open when they were closed, then we got so excited when they've came back. Very happy to see the two ladies who know and recognize their customers in our neighborhood even after so long. They are legit Italian pizza like the kinds you get in Italy. Not too saucy and not too cheesy but just the perfect amount, their thin crust is the best! & their beef patties and rolls are always so yummy.
A real good classic NY slice! Thin, crunchy crust made by mom-daughter duo, the ambiance of the pizzeria really takes you back. Cash only! Was happy to come across this spot, will definitely be adding it to my list of top pizza shops in Queens ❤️
All time favorite pizzeria. I’ve been coming here since I started walking. Family run business (mom and daughter). The place has not changed since I was 4. I enjoy the crispy thin crust, sweet and tangy sauce, and perfect amount of cheese. Best pizza in the world
Best pizza in nyc. Eat here twice a week.
I work at a company that has 3 locations in the city but primarily, I'm in SOHO where all the famous pizza shops are and this spot is the best slice in Queens, or even the city, by far. Price-wise, obviously much cheaper and comparably one of the best slices in NYC. I'ma pizza snob and this place defines a NYC slice and sicilian! updated 9/25/25: not so much a review but want to apologize to any future patrons and customers.. if they are out of sausage or chicken rolls.. it was probably me that cleared it out cuz I buy out everything they have as soon as see it's available.. I keep them in my freezer for future meals and have even taken a frozen sausage roll with me on a backpacking trip to perfectly thaw out when I get to my site and heat up on a campfire to add a smoky taste.. gotdam delicious
While they were out of both pineapple (no Hawaiian) and peppers, we were very happy with the meatball pizza that we got. Thin, crispy, but foldable crust, excellent, properly proportioned cheese & sauce, and a good amount of delicious meatball slices made us satisfied patrons. We'll be back. The Nonnas said that they didn't post the menu/prices shown on Google-Maps, so you'll need to expect higher prices.
I've been popping in here for the past two years and I love this pizza!! Perfect crunchy thin crust, piping hot and right amount of cheese and sauce.. This is how pizza should taste. Their sicilian is delicious too. I think I could eat a whole large pie by myself if I tried!!
Old school vibe & old school slice - delicious
I drove from whitestone because wanted to try a different place. First impression wasn’t great as I walked in the lady making the pizza was very old and there was not much to choose from on the counter. Ordered a Sicilian meat lovers pie and a meatball parm hero. They had no bread for the hero. So I asked for 2 reg slices while I waited. Let me tell you that it was the best slices I had in a very long time. Brought the pie home to the family and the kids were amazed on how great it tasted. By far the best pizza in queens. Will be going there a lot more. Take a chance and you will thank me on the recommendation. Happy eating.
The pizza is great one of the best, so far there are two places where I've had the best pizza here and another also in Queens believe it or not. Crunchy, firm, the cheese is on point and the sause has a great complementing taste to it. If you taste it you won't be disappointed. It's a women owned and women run place. The ladies running the place have their peaceful old fashioned way of running it, so you'll enjoy this time portal along with the taste of your pizza 🍕.
Classic pizza joint. Super lovely ladies that run it. Goes back to 1960’s. Great plain slice. Also got pepperoni which was good. I’m so happy there’s a pizza place in Elmhurst.
The best and only pizza spot I frequent! The owners are genuine and remain loyal to their customers, maintaining that old-school charm, which is much-needed in the neighborhood. Coming here is my favorite!!
I grew up in this neighborhood and I remember going to this pizzeria since I was little. They always made good old New York style pizza at an affordable price. They've been closed and remain closed at this time. I'm hoping to see them open again in the near future.
I tasted all the pizzas in NYC. Joe’s, DiFara’s, you name it. John’s is not the best pizza in NYC but it’s a great NYC experience sitting on their counter watching the mother make the pizza and the daughter serve you a slice. I come here once a month just to eat a slice while watching them to their work. It breaks my heart to see them close their place this long, I hope they still open their pizzeria.
If you like very thin pizza this is the place for you! Amazing pizza . Cash only tho and they don’t have an atm there is one like two stores down though so it’s fine. Not the place to go if you’re in a rush tho. Overall very quaint spot w amazing food.
100% best thin slice pizza in Elmhurst. Beef patty with pepperoni and cheese is a must. Pizza brings me back to my childhood. Also interior of John’s pizza is a must see for that NYC pizza nostalgia
Classic thin crust pizza, delicious sauce. I'm glad I discovered this place because this simple tasty style of pizza is hard to find. Topping choices are limited, so I only come here when I missing this classic style.
Best pizza in Queens. Same owners for over 60 years. I went as a kid and was so surprised to see the same lady making the pizza in her 80's. God bless.
DO NOT EAT THIS PIZZA HOT! I am not one of these "Cold Pizza" advocates. I like my pizza fresh and warm. This old school establishment is the exception. A fresh hot piping pie is probably hovering in a 7-7.5 rating, a room temp slice is def a 8.5. I'm no Bill Nye, but scientifically when this pizza sits and settles it really "matures". I tested this theory on friends and they agree. The location is awesome. It honestly looks like a film set from the late 70's. Their lack of upkeep actually adds to the charm. This is true authentic NY Pizza. It was one of the original thin crust slices since the early 90's when Pizza Hut became a phenomenon and most other local places switches to a thicker crust. Now a days every place is doing a thin crust in the style that Dave Portnoy likes hoping he might stop in and make them famous. This is a cash only no frills NY pizza spot that deserves it flowers. Its a mother and daughter alone making all the pies... and they are far from spring chickens! (you still look and move great) This place is a NY relic and places like these wont be around for much longer, so support it while you can. Soon you will be talking to a robot responding via ChatGPT making a pie based on a formula of all the top reviws.
I saw them on TikTok! And I wanted to try it out. Great place, great pizza. I’ll be back. I was nervous to meet them but next time I’ll say hi. I wanted to try the pizza first and not cause a scene since they were really busy. Thanks for the great pizza.
The NYC Pizzeria has been a long declining institution, but John's seems to be doing all the right things. An excellent regular and Sicilian slice, fair prices, and an atmosphere straight out of the 1980's. Most modern pizza shops have become sterile in their makeovers, which are mostly an afterthought. John's keeps it old school with formica, wall paper, period correct seating, bar stools, and the quintessential red tile flooring. You don't just come here for the pizza, you come here for an experience. Put your phone away and just soak in the nostalgia as you enjoy a slice at John's. As a lifelong New Yorker since 1980, I approve this message.
This wonderful gem has been here a long time. I've been getting pizza from here since 1993. I moved from Queens 8 years ago. I was in the neighborhood today and decided to stop in. It's as it was when I left. The pizza is just as good and the ladies who run it just as fantastic. You won't be disappointed.
Very quaint neighborhood pizzaria that's been around forever! They're most known for their thin crust pizza and it is not to be missed! The "pizza ladies" are a community staple. You can see a lot of locals coming by to say hi and pick up a quick slice. The furniture is very 70s or 80s but it adds to this place's charm. They also have Italian Icee for a post pizza treat. It's worth the trip to Elmhurst! Update February 2023: Reopened and cash only. Same great taste!
First time going in here. We went around 430pm so it wasn’t as crowded there we saw two beautiful elderly women working with so much passion and it just warmed my heart cause I knew this pizza was going to taste just as good! We ordered mushroom and pepperoni slice. We will definitely come many more times. Thank you
It's open again! Living around the area, I remember my mom telling me that the daughter was her elementary school classmate. This has to be one if the oldest local restaurant in business. Today I saw them making doughs in the store! I really miss their pizza it was always my first choice since I live nearby. I see more diversified restaurants opened since pandemic hope they can survive the competition, provide great food and keep preserving history in Elmhurst. Great to see them back after over three years!
Good old fashion New York style pizza! Popped in and grabbed two regular slices and I was not disappointed. The crust was well done and not overdone and the cheese pulled with every bite. There can be a bit too much grease on the pizza so pat it down with a tissue before chowing down.
Old school pizza joint. Pizza is decent. Lots of locals.
Pizza is good, but they were closed for a while. They recently reopened Nov. 2022. Have not been back yet but hope to soon.
Good quality slice. I think it could use a little bit more sauce, though.
Real nyc pizza - thin crust with flavor in every springy bite. Queens best pizza spots
This venerable institution, standing tall since 1965 and currently run by a dynamic mother-daughter duo, beckons you into a charming time capsule. With vintage wallpaper and mesmerizing dangling lamps, it's a captivating journey through the ages. But let's talk about what matters most—the pizza. Their thin slices are an art form, meticulously crafted with undeniable skill. Each bite is a testament to their commitment to excellence. However, I must confess that, in my humble opinion, the pricing leans towards the steeper side. And while the taste is divine, I found myself craving a touch more sauce. Overall, this is a destination for great pizza, though not one that will become my regular haunt. Yet, as a fervent supporter of local businesses, I will always shower them with my affection. A word of advice: if you're planning a pilgrimage from afar, it's best to give them a quick call ahead, as their operating hours can be a bit unpredictable
Congratulations.🍾🎊🎉🎈. Great to see them reopen. Mom looks good can’t believe she’s still going.god bless her. Surprised after 3 years they reopened. Daughter also got old .bless them both reopening. There’s young man working there now. It’s the son of daughter. He looks between late 20s to about maybe 30. I had to wait about 20-25 minutes for two slices. 🍕 but worth it after 3 years didn’t mind. $3.50 for a plain Neapolitan. Same great old style taste. Full pies no toppings $22
The ordering process was slightly awkward in that the toppings we wanted were partly unavailable, but which ones were unavailable were unknown until we asked for it (so we had to kind of go down the list of toppings one by one). Otherwise, the pizza was reasonably good, the staff is friendly, and the dining area is nicely kept and cute/charming.
Cute place. It’s been there since 1976 although my understanding is they were originally a few blocks away from 65-76. Pizza was good. My issue with the place is the daughter’s attitude is gruff and not friendly. When taking my order I’m at the far right of the counter and she walks all the way to the left and grabs a paper and pen. I’m Still on the right because that’s where I began communicating my order. She seems annoyed that I didn’t move over to where she moved. I didn’t appreciate the attitude. Also, there were so many toppings unavailable (No onions, no garlic, no meatballs) & no rolls which was a disappointment. And what I did order I didn’t get. Sausage and peppers and no peppers were on my pie. Lastly, she barked about taking a picture and said I need to ask before taking. All that said, I am giving 4 stars because I respect the history of the place. But the owner/daughter could be nicer. That would have bumped to 5 stars.
Est. 1965 Layout/atmosphere *Old fashioned signage on the outside; cash only; three tables with orange plastic seats bolted to the floor; four seat Formica counter in front of the oven plus two seat window counter; Tiffany style light fixtures; owner Rose Bagali was there making pizzas Food/drink *Sicilian slice - Good; light crust; cheesy
the murals aren't exactly da vinci, but the pizza is still the best in town.
Plain slice barely had any sauce. It was like eating crackers with cheese. Good people though.
The slices are tasty but portions are small :/ I wish they would serve bigger slices. I think the prices are high compared to the size and the quality of the pizza. I would rather go to Maspeth pizza near the middle school IS73
Stopped by on Wed Aug 8 2018 for lunch and it was closed with all the grating down. An old-looking sign said « on vacation », but didn’t provide further details. Anyone know if this is a real vacation (or code for ‘adieu’), and when the pizzeria will reopen ?
Heard a lot about John’s but was disappointed. Crust wasn’t cooked all the way through, probably due to them trying to serve the massive crowd of customers lined up inside(and outside) the restaurant. Will have to try again whenever we get back up to NYC.
Had 2 plain slices charged 7 for it to taste mediocre 1$ pizza tastes better not so grate service
I went there today oh my god we wait like more then 1 hours for just 1 pizza .service is so slow .there work 2 women and there are arguing eachother in front of the customers.and 1 women angry with us 😌😌
I’m not one to review on google, but I felt ultimately unwelcomed. I walked in and immediately felt profiled. I was greeted with a harsh “ do you want something”. Workers were unmotivated and grumpy. I kindly asked one woman to split a slice in two, and she replied in an irritated tone “we don’t do that”. She later cut the slice anyway. Once my baby brother and I, finished our slice, we were demanded to leave immediately. When we asked why, the women said they had rotate tables, which was quite confusing due to the fact that it was 6:00pm and the pizzeria was practically empty. In conclusion, I will not be returning, and I will let all my friends know about my experience, despite the fact that the pizza was good.
Need to update their hours on google . It’s a Sunday and they are closed at 6 pm and it says on google they close at 8 drove all the way from Jersey just for it to be closed. Please update your business hours so people don’t come and waste their time. Call before you come here to see if it’s open or closed!!!!
How the heck did this place survive for 65 years but they shut down Ginos pizzeria off broadway/Queens blvd? By far the worst pizzeria in all of NY. Bland pizza tastes worse than supermarket ellios frozen pizza. Heck those $1 slices in the city taste better. If you know anything about pizza and are a pizza enthusiast, you will be severely disappointed, save yourself the trip! Although I love the antic look inside.
