This has been my family's 'go to' place for family celebrations for 40 years. Birthdays, anniversaries, even receptions for celebrations of life. These guys can work with small groups or large. Their service is consistently first rate and the food is always good. Highly recommended.

With the fast food wage hike inflating the price of most burger places, happy hour here M-F from 3-6 will not empty your wallet. You could feed the whole family here for the same price of McDonald's, maybe cheaper. 2 tacos for $8, loaded nachos $8, other deals on beer pints and wine. Excellent food and staff as well.

The waitress was helpful, efficient and friendly. The food was excellent, the prices were reasonable. This will be a go-to again in the future when I'm in the area.

I ordered to go so, I did not experience the atmosphere inside the restaurant. But, the food was delicious. I ordered the Cochinita Pibil, that I would recommend, the meat was tender and flavorful. Ordering online and picking up was convenient and easy.

Great spot for a happy hour in the bar, as well as meals. Delicious guacamole (not over-salted/garlic) served with flour tortilla chips that are crisp and pillowy. Perfect accompaniment to their homemade salsa and fantastic house margaritas. 🏆 You can order these excellent Margaritas to-go as well! 🥳 I've been here many times over the last several years, including booking a big anniversary party. We went in the late afternoon when it wasn't too busy and we were able to enjoy pleasant conversation over Margaritas and appetizers. The service was excellent, attentive with good recommendations, but not intrusive. The Margaritas were very good and the appetizers were inventive, delicious, and beautifully presented. I will look forward to going again in warmer weather to fully enjoy the patio experience.

This was the site of our Orange Glen High School 50+ Reunion & 70th Birthday Party. We received service by, Hector, however, every server was gracious and pleasant. The accommodations were wonderful and perfect for our special occasion. I would recommend this restaurant for individuals dining out or for special group gatherings such as ours.

Amazing food, wonderful service and great atmosphere. Sometimes we eat in and other times we take it to go. The meals to go have always been accurate and all of the dishes we’ve ordered have been 10/10 for taste & presentation. Since finding this restaurant, we continue to go back.

Had the brunch buffet today. There are so many options, everything from traditional breakfast food like omelets and pancakes to more traditional Mexican food like ceviche, steak ranchero, and enchiladas and so much more. Everything was delicious, and the employees were on top of keeping everything stocked and clean. I absolutely will be back!

We had our sports banquet there where we were served chicken beef and shrimp street tacos along with refried beans which were the best I've ever had in Mexican rice with all the trimmings. For dessert we had fresh churros with cream on the inside sweet and delicious.

My family and I go there every week for dinner. The food is good, not exceptional but good. The service always great and the atmosphere very welcoming. We love the outside area when the weather permits. Salsa and chips very good and the mini margaritas very refreshing.. we have tried most dishes and we have not found anything we didn’t like.

My mom and I were seated as soon as we walked in and presented with freshly made tortilla chips and some fresh mild salsa. I appreciate that the salsa is not automatically served so spicy it burns my taste buds. Just because you enjoy Mexican food doesn’t mean you want everything with a ghost pepper effect. The service by our waitress, Rachel, was spot on. The plates were so plentiful of food, that mom and I could have shared one plate and still been stuffed. We ended up taking half the food home, which by the way was excellent the next day for lunch. The atmosphere is inviting and calm, we were not forced to listen to loud, obnoxious music like some places, and you couldn’t help but watch the place fill up. When a restaurant is steadily busy, that tells you that their reputation precedes them. It’s always a good sign. We will definitely return for more great food and one more those oh so attractive margaritas! UPDATE (2/18/24): We went for Sunday Brunch and it is the most spectacular spread I have ever seen! So many options from a variety of fruits, enchiladas, tostadas, desserts— you name it. Everything on the menu is at this all you can eat extravaganza! Oh my oh my… gotta go back again and again. I have never been to a brunch that goes all morning until 2 PM! Have you? Most end by 11:00, but not this one. They have a kids table as well if picky eaters prefer kid style foods. Marvelous! Absolutely delicious!!

Everything was so good, especially the margaritas. They were so tasty, the flavored ones you barely taste the tequila which I loved and the Cabo one was a little strong for me but perfect for my dad. He had a second one(not pictured) with roasted pineapple jalapeño infused tequila and he loved that one better than the first. Nice little kick from the jalapeño. Overall great, the service was also amazing. Definitely going back.

We are weekly visitors and love this place! However with new management, we miss Anthony on Friday nights (part of the reason we come weekly) and music is so loud on Saturdays that is is hard to speak to each other or staff. Service is always amazing as our regular servers always remember our orders and treat us like VIP’s! We would love to see Anthony back on Friday nights!!!

Cocina del Charro has been a North County San Diego institution for 40 years. With two beautiful locations, they are a second-generation family run Mexican restaurant that prides itself in serving their community. One of my favorite things to order here are their excellent tamales, beautifully presented in a corn husk. I usually get it in a combination plate with either a taco or enchilada. The tamales here are very well balanced with a nice amount of meat filling inside the tender, moist and tasty masa.

When I was growing up in Escondido this was my fav place. Finally back after over 30 years. Still real good. The beans n rice are out of this world!!

The best Mexican restaurant around. I've been going here for about 15 years and the food is always high quality with great salsa and low prices. The waiters and waitresses are excellent. This place has good chips and salsa and comfy chairs. But the food is pretty bland, it's just like they don't care about the taste. So if you want drinks and chips it's ok. If you want good food there are plenty of taco shops nearby with better food.

I called to make a reservation for 3 people. I was told by the man answering the phone that they “only make reservations for groups of 4 or 5 so they can take a lot of walk-ins, but that if I call back 30 minutes before, they can add me on a wait list and we shouldn’t have to wait too long “. Really???? What? I am calling to let you know you have customers right here on the phone and explained my elderly parents wanted to eat there. I was put on hold multiple times and finally convinced the guy and he said he would make an exception. The entire conversation was like I was not a paying customer. Rude. We ate there because my parents wanted to eat there and our server was great. But the entire experience of making a reservation was horrible.

The food is good. I don't like the seating, though. Kinda feels like you're just crammed in the restaurant if you are seated in the middle tables. More booths and more privacy while eating would make the feeling much more intimate. Our date felt like a visit to the cafeteria. Our server was way over seated and we could definitely tell with the lack of refills and length of time we waited for our check.

A very nice place to go out and eat. Sadly I did not like my cheese enchiladas. The sauce tasted like it came from a can. I know it did. They should at least try to make it taste authentic. The chips for the salsa were greasy. You guys need to do better. Don't let this place go down. It is one of a few restaurants that have a great space to go out and eat Mexican food.

At the bottom of the receipt where they give you the 15%, 20% and 25% tip as a guide. Out of curiosity I calculated them and they were completely wrong! 15% tip guide was actually closer to 22%! I would have told the waiter but he was no where to be found. Anyone who uses this guide will tip more than desired. Be aware!

No greeting or smiles as we entered the restaurant. The server was rushing us and was all over the place. But he did his job. He didn't check on us as much as I thought he should, didn't clear our finished plates, so they piled up and sat as we enjoyed some girls' day out conversation. Being with my friends is what made the day. Not sure I will visit this location again. But I might give another chance , just because I understand how we all can have a bad day.

Greasy, has everyone written about how greasy the chips are?? I've never had such greasy chips in my life and I don't mind a little greasy. We had enchiladas and I'm very surprised that they weren't very hot!

I had dinner with my husband last night. I ordered one shredded beef taco, no lettuce, and a side of sour cream. No beans or rice. When I received my food, I added the sour cream to the taco and noticed it had a HUGE piece of onion. As I pick out the onion, I notice chunks of celery. I continued to pick out , bell pepper, onion, and celery out of my one taco. When I was done removing all the extra fillers, I was left with less than one spoonful of shredded beef in the taco. For Pete's sake! If you're going to charge $8 for one taco with sour cream, the least you can do is not fill it with cheap veggies. When I showed the server he did apologize and had my order remade. In the meantime my husband ate his dinner and I waited. Not exactly a pleasant way to start off dinner. When my new taco arrived, you could tell it was rushed out of the kitchen and not fried throughly. It was a bit soggy. I ate about half of it... not a pleasant dinner. Please charge what you need to charge for a taco, but give us what we order. Celery has no place in a shredded beef taco.

A rule of thumb I've found in a good Mexican restaurant is the beans. If they're smothered in Jack cheese, the place is usually no good and sure enough, that's how they're served here. The entree itself, enchiladas suizas, were covered in a tasteless tomatillo sauce. I've had better sauce out of a Las Palmas can. The rice was ok but also mostly flavorless. Save yourself the trouble and go to nearly any regular taco shop in Escondido for much better and cheaper food.

My family and I ate at this restaurant, and the food was absolutely nasty. With today’s cost of eating out, you expect good service and good food. We received neither. The gentleman working the front desk was extremely rude and seems as though he dislikes his job. The food was very subpar and disappointing. We thought we’d give this restaurant a try as we eat at several different Mexican food places within Escondido that are all very good. We thought we would try something new and we will never be back. Again, the service was horrific, management was rude, and food was horrible. Don’t waste your time.

I just moved to the Escondido surrounding area and we stopped by this nice looking restaurant outside looked amazing when I walked up the signs and sales where displayed nice service was horrible… horrible… I did speak to a gal before I left to address my concerns as I feel you pay for a service it should be received… I still did leave a tip but I’m not sure I would go back!

I bought a bean and cheese burrito, I tend to see how good a Mexican restaurant by their rice and beans. the beans were just your typical refried beans, tasted like store bought refried beans. no real flavor in them. lacking the seasoning. the cheese was outside the burrito which makes no sense. I understand trying to be fine dining... but c'mon it is just a bean and cheese burrito. the way it was presented it is as if they want you to eat it with a knife and fork. its a BURRITO! a chimichanga, ok I get it its deep fried, you are not going to eat it like a burrito. when I went to pick up my burrito to eat it..... it was not even wrapped properly. the burrito was opened from the bottom. once I managed to pick it up and "wrap" it properly. it was like a Mini bean and cheese burrito. I asked for some salsa, red... Havanero..... that was weak and tasteless. more sweet than spicy or savory. I read the descriptions and reviews before eating here. I am absolutely dissapointed. if you are of latin descent or know good mexican food this is not the place to go. right down the road is a better place to eat. I will be going back just to try their enchiladas..... I will be very honest as I always am with my reviews. as of right now... I can not recomend. the atmosphere seemed ok, lots of people.... but they did just open not long ago. their chips are good, their chip salsa is ok. I will add photos of the enchiladas next time I will edit this review after my next visit.

My shredded beef taco was full of some mushy brown stuff and bell peppers. That's not shredded beef. The Relleno was tough and still had the seeds in it. No flavor on the beans and rice. We used to love this place for the last 20 years. Not going back

So we ordered the trio fajitas and were very disappointed with our order,the dish had 80% onions and 5% bell peppers and 15% meat i will never eat here again big disappointed for lunch and 3 tortillas that were crispy and service wasn't good spoke with manager about experience and I thought we were getting ready to spar from her reaction

I can’t even believe this how disappointed I am about this place. Not only is the food sub par, but when they screw up almost the entire meal they don’t take care of the issues, and charge you anyway. The guac we ordered as an appetizer came out when we were almost done with dinner. She up charged for my drink and shrimp taco and never told us. Usually I never write bad reviews but I want to save people from having consistent bad experiences here. I will be telling all of my friend to never waste there money here. You lost good customers! Also, Eric and Andrea were so rude. Good luck having a sustainable business with such bad service!

There was a dead fly in my fresh drink, yet the manager refused to give me any discount or complimentary beverage even though I discovered this nasty fly while taking my first sip. This place obviously doesn't respect their customers and doesn't deserve your money.

I eat here probably twice a week, and it's usually good food. But something needs to change. 1st.... the hostess seats me or u sit in the bar and wait..... I almost always say.....I know what I want and no response. Chip guy drops off chips and salsa. Noone asks about even water. I need at least water for the salsa. And I wait . Today id guess 15 min to get a,waiter. While 3 people stood at the door doing nothing. Finally ordered my half a,chicken tostado . No green chili's or tomatoes. Waiter short bald guy argued those aren't chili's. Reguardless, I said I hate veggies. My horrible food came. Full of the green things and probably half a,tomato of chunks. A kid dropped it off and walked away. My waiter never checked to see if it was ok. The tortilla and bean were soaked in juice. Plate runny. I picked the green things aside and the tomatoes. The guacamole was very dark and tasted horrible and sour cream was full of tomatoes. I literally picked out chicken and pushed aside my plate. Waiter brought my bill. I told him my plate was full of tomatoes and chili's. Again he said not chili's and something about soup. I guess that's why my plate was so full of juice. I assume thecook scooped chicken out of the soup??? I paid my 17$ bill and left a small tip, and walked out still hungry. Worst ever. 2 days ago I had best guacamole there ever. Im hoping I never have to wait for water, a waiter, or asked how my food is in the future. It needs to change.

I hate leaving bad reviews but this was just too much. Service was almost non existent. We ordered a side and had to ask for it 3 times before even getting it. We got no refills on our drinks until we asked. Our meals were given to us with some of the meal missing and we had to ask for that also. They made us feel almost as if we were a burden being there. The food tasted good but half of our group got sick within a few hours of eating the food. Nothing is worse in a restaurant experience than pairing bad food with bad service. It goes without saying but we will absolutely not be returning.

Service tonight was not good. I had to ask several times for my drinks and tortillas. The Cilantro Mahi Mahi was terrible. The fish was dry, tough and had zero flavor. I expected better from here and our server but I’m greatly disappointed. I won’t return, too many other great restaurant options.

If you want to have a good breakfast, I recommend you not to waste your time in this restaurant. Very limited options in the menu. No wonder at 10:00am the parking lot has plenty of space. I end up getting a coffee and my wife the only option of omelette in the breakfast menu just because she has to eat something after a certain medication.

We saw the most outrageous thing here when we were here last. The server absolutely went off on a woman because he brought her fish tacos when she ordered shrimp tacos. He harassed her and made her literally cry then tried not to get the manager to notice by comping the meal. He said he had two kids and cant lose his job while blaming her for correcting his mistake. I can't believe how aweful that made everyones experience....
