Last minute change of venue put our large Veterans group there on a Sunday brunch time frame. A little overwhelmed and with a short staff they still managed to provide Outstanding customer service, great food and promptly served. So a very positive experience and I'll have to return in the near future to enjoy their service without bringing the 30 plus other Veterans we showed up with this time. ;) Thank you. :)

The owner, Joe, has never disappointed our family or our Bible Study friends in providing the most delicious food. We all sit in the banquet room (that can hold 50 people) every time we go. Waitresses are so sweet! Charlene even knows our lunch orders by heart. Great place to eat!

J &N's is a great family friendly restaurant! Nice selection of food. Fresh ingredients. Our men's church group (usually about 10-15 guys) have been meeting there once a month (2nd Saturday of the month), for as long as I can remember! They are very accommodating for rearranging several tables together in their separate banquet room for our group breakfast meetings! BTW, Charlene is a great waitress!!! 😊👍

Great Food with Great Server's!! I've never had anything here that I didn't love! My husband and I go weekly & the Server's are really personable. They really make Us feel at home. There's always a way to have it "Your Way" (the food, I mean) . Change it up, it's okay!

The quality of service at atmosphere is like a step backward in time... and I absolutely loved it. The service staff was courteous, friendly, personable, and everything is 55-year-old man remembers from what restaurants used to be. The music being played overhead was very soft so that it shouldn't interrupt conversation, and it was playing very mellow tunes from oldies to modern... with no hip hop or club music. I will definitely be visiting here with my son again. As a late note, after eating at this restaurant a second time, we had an elderly woman as our server. No matter what you do, if you have an elderly woman as your server, request a different server... she was definitely not up to the task

Consistent good diner food. You can't go wrong. The beef vegetable soup prepare daily it's an excellent way to start off your meal. I like the Frisco burger for lunch. Put breakfast is a whole nother story, it will not disappoint

This is my favorite breakfast breakfast in Esco. Great omelet with fresh avocado. Coffee was good. Service was prompt.

This is the place we’ve been looking for! After The Wagon Wheel closed down (off Mission and Center City) we have been wanting a yummy family restaurant nearby and happened upon this little gem. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was easy with our two loud kids. Our server, Kimberly, was attentive, sweet and had a smile the entire service. The proprietor came to our table to say hi. The only thing I would gripe about is the food prices (but nowadays everything is expensive). We will definitely be back. My two kids had pancakes (and wouldn’t stop talking about how delish they were) my husband and I each had a burger, fries/onion rings and a small salad.

This is a family favorite and we come here on a regular basis. The owner occasionally goes around the tables and checks on customers. The tables are always clean, the staff is friendly. The food is great. If there is an issue with the food, the owner and cook will come out to discuss it with you and then make the necessary changes with no complaints what so ever. The food is good ol' comfort food. Side note, considering the rise in prices across the country, the prices here remain reasonable.

I've been coming to J&M's for year's. The food is great and the Service has always been excellent! Today was a very busy Sunday, but Our Server Shannon was there with a smile and very helpful in knowing the Menu & Price's. It's a good place to go for Everyone. Large groups, make a reservation. The prices are within reason. Not cheap if that's what you're looking for but, I feel within reason. Home cooked comfort food. Great Cinnamon Rolls too! Beer & Wine available also.

I went for my first time tonight! It was a nice family joint with a friendly atmosphere. Service was quick and the food was great! I had the San Franciscan with onion rings. Both were delicious! I highly recommend J&M's for a casual bite out.

The new "go-to" place! I don't usually throw out 5 stars(nothing is perfect) but this place deserves more. Excellent tasting, fresh, quality ingredients... all the food was great. My 3yo daughter and I chose here for waffles (she loves them) I ordered and our waitress offered a fresh cinnamon roll, and she said they're made fresh, and WOW!!!!! This place has fresh food, in hoise made treats and that cinnamon roll was huge, fresh and delicious... whenever we're in the area, WE'RE COMING BACK!!!

This place was great!! All the food was amazing! The pancakes and sausages were great! The manager/owner checked on us. The server was friendly and helpful! The mimosas were expensive but yummy!

Service here is always super friendly and the food hot and fresh. My husband and I go here for Sunday breakfast about once a month before I start my day beekeeping and we usually get here early to avoid the 8:00 a.m. breakfast crowd. Love love love this place! They have the best comfort food in Escondido. They make a killer black iced coffee too, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They run daily dinner specials with some of their most popular dinner plates, and it's very reasonably priced. Recommend you stop by and taste for yourself. I have never been disappointed.

Was very impressed by the food!! The service by our waitress Sara was amazing. She was very attentive and brought out a dog bowl and treats for my old dog, Buddy. I has the ribs, wings, and the fish. Both the soups of the days and the dressings for the salad was house made and absolutely delicious 😋 😍 👌 The owner/manager was very hospitable, joking around and asking if there was anything he could do to make pur visit better. As this was my first time, I cannot tell you have much I loved this place!! Cannot wait to come back and bring more people to this wonderful establishment. 10/10 would recommend!!

We were in the area looking for a place to stop for breakfast and found this family restaurant. My husband and I enjoyed what we had. My husband got ham and eggs combo and I got a bacon and sausage omelet. Our waitress Shannon was great! We never had to ask her to refill our drinks, or ask for anything she was very attentive. All of the the staff was great! If we our in town again we definitely will stop here again

This place serves a great meal either it be breakfast lunch or dinner. You get your money worth. And Brandi the waitress is the best server she is very attentive and fast and she makes you feel at home.

First visit at this restaurant was today with my granddaughter.. I had a taco salad which was larger than I expected, (with plenty of sliced guacamole!). My granddaughter had fruit and half a grilled cheese sandwich which she enjoyed. Our waitress along with who I think was the manager were very pleasant. The atmosphere has a 50's feel. We were blessed to have another customer to pay for our meal! So that put the cherry on top of our visit!🎊

We had a lovely meal! Found J&M's on Google for being close to the Safari Park and decided to try it. Quick, pleasant and personal service. All 5 of us ate our entire meals of perfect portion. Will definitely be back when we're in town.

Had a great lunch with my sister. I was in the mood for soup 🍲. The soup of the day on Thursday was Broccoli Cheese 🧀. It tasted great! I definitely recommend it! Also had a bowl of chili. It's wonderful. I don't like beans in my chili, so it was great!

J & M Escondido is hands-down our favorite breakfast spot! The food is always amazing, the hospitality is warm and welcoming, and don’t even get us started on the cinnamon rolls — they are the BEST we’ve ever had! We love spending our weekends here whenever we can. It’s a local gem with a cozy vibe and consistently delicious meals. Highly recommend!

For that $50 meal for two, I would expect more. Yes, this is overpriced California and my wallet was assaulted at every turn. We walked in and waited to be seated, some person was too busy putting napkins away to notice us standing there until one of the other waitresses hollered out that someone would be right with us. We finally got seated and every step was slow. It took forever to give and get the drink order and finally order our meal. It came somewhat quickly but it was plain and ordinary. There is nothing exceptional about this restaurant and I don't think I'm asking too much for expecting more for $50.

The entire staff was super friendly especially our waitress, whose name I currently do not recollect. I do recall really loving and enjoying The Lumberjack Breakfast, I definitely do recommend ordering this dish. I substituted the toast for fresh fruit with a small upcharge turning an excellent breakfast into spectacular. The dog friendly patio was a great plus because we had our puppy in the car with the us. Everybody loved him and thought he was adorable 😍

We eat here at last once a month, the food is delicious and fairly priced. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable. We love the chef salad, chili, fish tacos, chicken parm, fettuccine Alfredo, burgers, chicken fried steak, and ice cream (with lots of caramel sauce)!

We stopped in while returning home after a road trip. What a great find. We were promptly, seated shortly after that and our drink order was taken. Their menu is excellent? Plenty of options but not so many that you get lost in deciding. I had the tuna melt with onion rings. My sister had the culb sandwich. Both were delicious choices. There was ample tuna in my melt and it was seasoned nicely with not too much mayonnaise. The club sandwich was stacked with a generous portion of meat.

This restaurant clearly reminds me of the classic diners when I was younger. Not in a hidden part of town, but right in the open - far too easy to overlook. Food is great, hot, and we'll seasoned. My hubby and I decided to try this place for breakfast. I'm glad we did! We were greeted and seated promptly, our waitress Sara was friendly. We did have to correct her on our drink order (two coffees and two waters ... She brought me a water and him a coffee - she does need to listen more carefully), however she did fix it promptly. Our coffee was kept full. Our food was hot and tasty, we both enjoyed it - eggs, bacon, sausage and biscuit and gravy (I would have liked a couple tablespoons more gravy, but it was enough). We will be back!

We were at the cage 8pm Sunday. They were a bit understaffed. Everyone was very pleased with dinner. I ordered the rib eye Sunday special. It was juicy and tender. Loved it. The wife had the Franciscan sandwich and it looked very good. The staff was very personable. The gumbo was bland for me, but my companions enjoyed theirs. The atomosphere is pleasant and clean but basic.

The food is diner classic. Maybe somewhere between Dennys and carrows. My daughter (2yrs) says the pancakes are fantasic. My sirloin was a true medium rare with great service to boot. The only reason a 5 star didn't happen is because it feels a bit like early bird special with the clientele. Still, I'd come back.

Service was great, we were seated and served promptly. I had a Belgian waffle with banana, strawberries and whipped cream, and it was delicious! My partner had a Chef Combo (2 eggs, 4 bacon, 3 pancakes). It was good, the bacon tasted a little weird. But overall all good. I also had raspberry lemonade - it was good although very sweet. We spend a little over $50 so a little on the pricey side, I think. But the food and service was good. Would recommend 👍🏼

A great diner with solid food, a huge menu, and fast service. You should definitely try this place once if you are in the area and in the mood for fantastic diner food. The owner was also friendly with people they knew and said hello to us as well, giving a sense of community too. My only complaint with the location is the semi-high prices, but they are on par with other restaurant prices and have daily deals that make it worth going and affordable if you are in the mood for those. I highly recommend trying this location with friends and family.

James is a close departure from the Dennis and the Coco's but feels more like a mom and pop shop which is nice. Food is standard. There's nothing that's going to blow your hair back. We tried the famous cinnamon rolls with a scoop of butter on it and it was as expected. Delicious and warm. Our main entrees were well cooked and filling. In terms of any kind of outstanding characteristics, you may want to look somewhere else. Service here was great. My coffee cup was never empty and the servers were excellent. Shout out to Brande.

This place should be so much better than it is. I can't figure it out. The servers are pleasant and helpful. The ambience is akin to that of a denny's. Not bad but it's certainly not a place I crave to go to for that reason. The food is, well, the food is very average. It's quick. I'll give them that but it's way over priced for what it is. A mediocre breakfast should not cast $45 for two people. I want to like J&M but I honestly can't. It just doesn't do it.

I always drive by here and my husband and I decided to stop by for lunch on a whim! First impressions was the interior was a little dated, but it was really clean. I didn’t get the sticky maple syrup seat feel like I get at Denny’s. Service was great and the prices looked pretty good too. My biggest issue was the food. I ordered the ground beef steak with gravy and onions on top and my husband ordered the meatloaf. The ground beef steak was REALLY bland, like it just tasted like cooked ground beef. Not even adding salt would make it better. The gravy on top tasted like it came from a package because it tasted really similar to the package gravy I use at home. I returned the ground beef steak because it just wasn’t enjoyable to eat. The waitress was very nice and took it back and took it off our bill. I instead shared some of my husband’s meatloaf which also needed salt, but it at least had other seasoning in it. I get the feeling this is more of a breakfast place, but if a dish isn’t good don’t put it on the menu. To me, if I can cook something on par or better than what I order, then it’s not worth going to. That was our impression after eating at J&M’s.

First off the star rating is based on just the food. The staff and especially our waitress was great and attentive and very welcoming. The food was just okay. I got the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies (carrots & broccoli). My husband got the chicken fried steak with the potatoes and veggies. He said my chicken tasted better than his beef and the broccoli felt way over cooked and looked old, the carrots were so so. The disappointment was the mashed potatoes, they tasted just like Idahoan Instant Mashed Potato. I’m pretty sure the gravy is also from a package instead of freshly made. This place is great for breakfast and they have great carrot cake. I’m hoping with the new ownership they will change to fresh food and not instant stuff that I wouldn’t even make at home. But I do want to reiterate that our waitress was really nice and attentive!

Ever since this place got bought out the new owners a running this place into the ground. They charges $14.99 for a grilled cheese combo which includes only freanch fries. Tom's Restaurant charges $11.59 and that comes with french fries AND a medium drink! Tom's Restaurant even has better and cheaper breakfast items. Better tasting also.

Went here and was told the food was very good, turned out to be about as bland as you can possibly get, burgers were very thin and as basic as basic gets over cooked, dry no flavor. The onion rings were very thin/dry and over cooked with no flavor the breading was also meh. Overall just a very bland and disappointing dining experience. 2 stars since our waitress was respectful and helpful and the food was edible at a most basic level.

I was looking forward on my breakfast experience at this place and it became a huge disappointment. Customer services is extremely poor here. Servers love to chit-chat for long periods of time with customers they are familiar with. What about the other new customers that need service refills on a second cup of coffee or a fountain drink. Ridiculous. I get it, that this place is suppose to be a family friendly place, but come on. Key for a successful business is customer service throughout. This place was not even packed. This place had enough servers this morning but all chit-chating with coworkers and some with other peoples tables. For the price of a meal here I expect at most average customer service. I did not even get a second visit from the server to check at least once to see if all was fine. I did not even get that. I felt as if I was a number and not a customer. Not even a greeting with a smile when sitted. I guess I intruped her smoking break time. Then the other sever that took my order, she brings my meal almost throwing the plate at my table. Felt like I was at a cafeteria not a restaurant. WoW!!! What a disappointment.

We were insulted by the manager asked if we could afford our food simply because we're a a young lesbian couple we were treated rudely and eventually left without our food. We were embarrassed humiliated and let us know that we were not welcome back. PS. He has roaches in his in his kitchen. We will never eat here again. It's supposed to be a family restaurant. I would never bring my family here again.

This was our first time here. We ordered fish and chips and the serving size was very good. However, that was the only good thing about our experience here. The taste and quality of the food was very average and the waitress was extremely rude. I took a sip out of my wife's soda drink and the waitress came to our table and rudely said that you are not allowed to share drinks and added the cost of one extra drink to our bill. This made us extremely uncomfortable. Needless to say, we will never visit this place again. Not to mention the soda drinks are over priced and they actually start charging you more if you ask for more than 2 refills ( it says free refills on their menu). Poor experience!

I've been here before and that's why I came here again. I spent a good amount of money on Father's Day today. I brought my husband, brother, and dad to celebrate them. I gave my brother a gift card and he forgot it on the table. I called to ask them if we could go back and get it and apparently they "couldn't find it." Which is interesting because it was in a bright package. Yes, I understand it was our fault for forgetting it, nevertheless I've been at other restaurants where I've left my phone, keys, etc and other restaurants have been extremely honest and returned our stuff. I won't be coming here again, and I'll be warning my friends and family that if they go there to be careful with their belongings because they probably won't return it. Also, when I called, the manager didn't even ask for my phone number just in case they happen to find it, he automatically said they couldn't find anything.

Got the fish & chips and it was terrible. 1/4" thick and overcooked. I only tried two bits and childhood eat more. I was refused a refund. This place used to be good, but I won't be back.

Went to J and M restaurant yesterday myself and my daughter, and my granddaughter.I had eggs over easy with hash brown and two Sausage ,pancakes with strawberry whip cream on the side. My daughter had French toast with scrambled eggs, bacon.. The worst service I ever had.. My pancakes was cold she said okay .. She came back five minutes later and I cut into them and they wasn't cooked in the middle and I told her I that didn't want them. We waited another 5 minutes and I went up front. They were trying to decide how to breakdown the check. I didn't want anything free just take off the pancakes. The owner or manager who ever he was,He was so mean and rude because I wanted him to take off the pancakes he said to me to never come back in again. My bill was 40.00 I didn't understand why he was so angry about taking the pancakes off. The hostess/ waitress said to me I am sorry. She was a sweet lady. The sad part is he wouldn't say he was sorry I had been going in there for 4 years. I think they still charged me. He said to leave.We told him to have a bless day .it was only 15 people's in the restaurant I am sure this wasn't the first time he was rude to a customer. SO SAD J&M IN ESCONDIDO TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS.

Ordered online for delivery at J&M website, attracted by the advertised $3.00 delivery charge. With a problem with my order, I call the restaurant only to be told that J&M does not deliver. I completed my online order for delivery. J&M called me to inform me that my order was ready and asked who was going to pick it up. I said that I used J&M's preferred delivery service, an outfit called TOAST. Delivery finally came, delivery person laughed at me for some reason after handing me my food. IT WAS COLD!! The food itself was delicious. But the irnorance and hostility of the front of the house staff makes me hesitant to ever set foot in J&M restaurant in Escondido again.

Not happy sitting and waiting for a waitress to see I am done and have cash out. They never walk by and check after they bring the food. Plus with all the dividers. They also can't see the room where the customers are. Still sitting here waiting

I visited this restaurant today and they have excellent service, a welcoming and very clean atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was perfect for a casual lunch. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the expectations set by the rest of the experience. The fries tasted like they were leftover from the previous day and reheated in a microwave, I’m not picky with fries, but these were bad. Only ate 3 fries thinking maybe the first and second ones were bad ones I picked but no, left the rest on the plate. Even my husband who would eat stale food only had 1. Also the waffle he ordered was overly dry and tasteless, overly crunchy and overcooked, but not in a good way. My husband who isn’t picky only ate less than half which he’s the type to finish his food. The eggs and bacon were good. The San Franciscan burger which the waitress said it was their best burger, even though it looked good, it didn’t taste like much and was underwhelming. While the presentation was nice, the food quality was really disappointing. I was so excited for this place because it’s super close to our house, they have what looked like an amazing menu, and a very home-like family diner. Everyone was very attentive and treated you very nice. Service was fast and efficient. It’s pricy for very low to mid food, over $60 on two plates and a coffee.

The food was a left over. The rice pilaf was stale and slimey. Yikes what a crap. Big time CRAP! The pork chop was pale and all curled up like I cannot even describe it. I should have taken a photo.! I don't know who ever did this crap but it is DISGUSTING! I should sue this place. I still could taste the freaking thing in my mouth. Too shitty!

My daughter in law wanted to take me out on my 87 birthday . We were in the patio. Very well seated and welcomed that soon ended . Rushed to take our order then served never to see them for well over an hour never asked to refill my beverage or if needed anything else. She made it clear special day. Then she appeared and stated you ready for the bill not would you like any dessert etc then bright the bill stood over her watching her credit card entry no privacy. Top it off found out lucky before we left not our bill she went in to get corrected and presented another one that wasn’t ours. We have eaten there many times but probably never again
