Great food, friendly service. Family vibe. I definitely want to go back and try other stuff.
Awesome BBQ at a really good price! I've never had a bad experience here. Will keep coming back again and again!
Hands down the best BBQ in town. Also great catering outfit. They catered my wedding and the food and presentation were fantastic!
The Pulled Pork was the best I ever had. Their Barbecue Sauce is fantastic. I can't wait to go back.
Love the food here! Make sure you go early as by the evening they may have sold out of some of the meats
For the taste and protein that you can make for the best and most important part of your diet and your health
Amazing BBQ, just amazing. Some of the other barbecue restaurants in this area their tri-tip is dry and flavor less Sammy's is tender moist and flavorful. So good if you get the chance go here. Oh and try the pineapple coleslaw I usually don't care for fruit where it doesn't belong but it's amazing. So good , a great side with tri-tip sandwich
Amazing BBQ place. Too bad they were out of coleslaw when i was there. But the ribs i ordered were fantastic. Really good food at very reasonable prices! Can recommend it.
My first experience ordering from here - absolutely delicious. The teriyaki chicken and tri tip was so tender and flavorful. I will definitely order again! Yum!
Food is always amazing 👏 the workers are super friendly, and the place it's self is always clean. Sammys bbq never disappoints.
Round two was spot on! Enjoyed the staff and the food was wonderful. For local BBQ and good portions…. These folks have it figured out!
Cashier was a student at Humbolt, gave some good advise for beach combing as we waited for our food. The bbq smell inside and out was incredible. Very resonably priced, fresh whole foods. The resturant was remarkably clean.
Sammy’s was amazing. The Khulna pork was fantastic. The pork ribs were very tasty. Highly recommend and I will be back without hesitation.
OMG this place was amazing!! The food was to die for!! I had a tri tip sandwich and it was just amazing!!! The crab puffs were good. You can’t beat their prices!! Will definitely be coming back!!!
Very good food and plenty of it. We enjoyed our lunch very much there. The menu is a little hard to understand at first but once you do it is fine.
Walked into a nice calm friendly atmosphere with relaxing music. Open later than other places was a great bonus. But the atmosphere really set the evening.
Superb food, with tastes that stimulate and makes the taste buds do back flips in your mouth. The staff great and even the owners make this such a family friendly experience
Delicious BBQ at a very fair price. 2 meats and 2 sides for $13...can't go wrong. I'd recommend the pork and the chop suey.
What's not to love!? A total family atmosphere and top quality food. Plus mom's banana cake I can't describe.
The food had me thinking about home. The pacific islands of Hawaii and the Samoan culture there. I myself had a wonderful experience! Thank you for the delicious food and service! Aloha🤙🏾
A barbecue place with meat by the pound and vegetarian options, they cater and have great atmosphere in house. It smells great when you enter the building, and they have great service. You wont regret it. Get a taste of Hawaii and share with friends. I fed quite a few people really good food on a budget. It is definitely a new go to on my list. They work with Door Dash too, so that's a bonus.
Delicious, consistent and very affordable food. This place is a local favorite. We love to stop here for dinner and they also do fantastic catering services. Sammy's catered my rehearsal dinner for my wedding and have catered several events at the middle school where I teach. We have always had extra food at the end and Sarah and the rest of the team are very friendly and helpful! The menu is unique and has something for everyone. I love the chop suey and my wife loves the pineapple slaw, and we both love the teriyaki chicken and their pork. Lots of good food and it's never disappointing! Plus it is locally, family-owned by longtime members of the community. Recommended for sure!
Best BBQ in Humboldt County. Been there twice and ate at a catering event as well. Went there for my anniversary last night. I had originally reserved ribs since they always sell out. Unfortunately, my reservation was not taken into account. However, the staff there were extremely kind and helped fix the issue right away. Wonderful experience. Go to this place, you won't regret it. :)
Awesome local family with Awesome food. Add a lil change to your normal BBQ experience. The flavors are outstanding. The ribs, the meatballs, the potato and Mac salads are mouth watering. And the pineapple upside down cake is absolutely to die for 😄
Best bbq spot in town. Haven't found anything on the menu I didn't like, but the ribs are my favorite. Also i love the Hawaiian egg rolls they have. Decent prices for good sized portions. Only negative thing I can say about this place is they often run out of items on the menu, so if you you with your heart set on one thing you might find yourself disappointed.
As always, it's great food and service. My friend left his phone there the other day and the staff went out of their way to reach out to me so he could get it back. Super kind people.
Oh. My. GOSH!!!! This place has, hands down, the best macaroni salad I have ever had. And their rangoons are so creamy, light, and perfectly crispy. A pleasant surprise from the menu. The chicken is always melt-in-your-mouth tender. My only complaint, perhaps, is that my tri-tip is usually cold. But delicious anyways! Dont forget their bbq sauce too. Super sweet, tangy, and delicious!
Fantastic. We had the kalua pork, tri tip and ribs and they were all just perfect. The sides were wonderful, especially the macaroni salad and coleslaw! Family friendly and you can't beat the smell. I shall now be rolling my windows down every time I drive by when they're cooking!! Wow!
The pineapple Cole slaw is so delicious and fresh tasting. Ribs and teriyaki chicken were amazing and generous portions. I loved when they were still in king salmon but it's worth the extra drive when I want good bbq. My only complaint is the music is like modern pop radio which is just awful. I suggest changing the channel to the point radio
OMG!! My husband I have been stuck home for days so as you can imagine we've ordered alot of takeout.we had lost faith between the high prices and the mediocre food (long wait, not hot). And then today we got SAMMY'S!! What a HUGE difference. Thank you for the awesome food.
Service is out standing the nicest young woman at the counter. Portions are fare food is good ... PRICED AT A AFFORDABLE COST !!! awesome THANKS !!!
I showed up after being suggested to try it out. They were closed, signs were off. People were inside so I figured they must be open though, cause yeah. Huge family dinner every Sunday with the owners. I'm mortified. I apologise, we all have a nice laugh, some angel of a woman offered me a plate of food to take with me. Holy balls good food. Good people. I'll be back for sure... When they're open
Favorite place to eat when I’m in Eureka, ordered takeout and not only was everything included in my order but they also made sure to include sauces and everything was so amazingly delicious. Didn’t even have a chance to take a picture before it was all devoured, we can’t wait to visit again.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by a very friendly cashier. She helped us figure out our order and made us feel like we were visiting with family. Our food was brought to the table and it was hot and delicious!
I got some pork Kahlua to go. It was pretty good. Maybe a little on the southeast side, but the house dressing was a nice combination with it. It was delicious. Worked out very well. Good service kind people.
Amazing food and super friendly staff! The meat is mouth watering! I love their coleslaw. If I lived in the area I would be regular.
Normally, I absolutely love the Crab Cheese Puffs. This day, not so much. They were flavorless, had little filling, and the texture was very different. Nothing has changed, so they said, but I beg to differ... Hope it's back to normal next time.
The teriyaki chicken is sooo good! All the food is good by the teriyaki chicken is my favorite. Staff is always friendly, and give you a heads up if there is a wait time for anything you order. We had lunch recently but I’ve also had their catering which is equally delicious!
I gave this place a harsh review but I deleted it. I moved here from a very harsh place and I want to get rid of the hate that came with me. The food is just fine. Not my type of bbq but that's just my opinion. I apologize to Sammy's and their staff.
I want to say the host or cashier Lexi was so awesome. She went way and beyond to help me with my order with the Teriyaki Chicken . she is everything what customer service stands for.
Food is delicious & the employees are always welcoming & super sweet
Came here with an empty stomach and now I’m writing this review full and satisfied. This is a must try. Head on in to get the family owned feeling, traditional service with amazing meat! I got the teriyaki chicken, and my girlfriend got the tri tip sandwich. The beans were hot! The Mac salad was super good, and most of all the chicken was super tasty, I tried one of the sauces and it just hits way different than some regular food. Got to support your local food chains, and if you’re doing that come here.
Came through here right now on a road trip. This place was recommended by the locals so I had high expectations. Every one of my expectations were met and the bar has been raised. This place is SLAPPING!! The tri tip is FIRE and the sauce is deadly good. This place is doing it all right. I love the hometown feel in here too. Lots of space being your family. If your stopping by or haven’t tried it yet your missing out. Also the staff here is super nice and the joint is clean!
Sammy's BBQ helped us so much! We needed catering for our wedding! Not only was Sammy's affordable they offered incredible service and great food. Our guests loved it so much we took them to the restaurant two days later. Overall excellent food excellent service and really made our dinner special.
It’s been a few years since I ate here, but let me tell you!! It’s only gotten better. First thing that came to mind after my first bite was “make you wanna slap yo momma!!” Shoutout to auntie for the most delicious cake!!
I love Sammy's. I have been going there since they opened. The BBQ is excellent.. love the flavors at Sammy's. I'm a real fan of the Pulled Pork and the pineapple slaw. So good. Sammy's is wonderful for the community. We love him and all he does. Sports theme inside. I very Happy to see him open after the pandemic. Thank God he stayed.. Thank you Sammy.
Amazing entrees, sides, service is awesome and food so fresh and fast. I love the potato salad! Tri tip and kahlua pork are juicy and tender, perfect. My dad loves the pineapple meatballs, and whole family was stoked about the chicken teriyaki and coleslaw with pineapple juice.
Amazing chicken teriyaki and pineapple coleslaw!!! My husband had the pineapple meatballs and potato salad and was also impressed. Good sized portions that filled us up.
The food was only second to the warmth of their hospitality we're from out of town but this should be a destination that shouldn't be passed up. We will be back thank you so much
Best BBQ in town. Food is always fresh and taste so good! Great people always friendly and great service. There catering service is the best. Stop by and grab a plate you won't be disappointed!

Edit: Updating my review since the owner reached out and offered to replace our meal, which was much appreciated. I ordered once through DoorDash about 6 months ago and the food was amazing. Great portions for the price and just incredible flavor. This last time we ordered was in-person and was a completely different story, and I hope it was just an unusual event. I ordered the tri-tip combo with a side (or two sides, can't remember). Grilled veggies is a side option as a separate purchase, but not with the combos, which was disappointing because every other side option is loaded with carbs and I went to get BBQ specifically to avoid a carb-loaded meal. So I ordered my plate with a side my husband wanted to eat, and I skipped a side for myself. My husband also ordered a half rack of ribs. What we got, though, was not tri-tip and a half rack of ribs. We got teriyaki chicken and 2 ribs. Like 2 rib bones with meat on them for $17. It was so tiny. With the inconsistency, I can't say whether or not this restaurant is good or bad, but I can say it is capable of inconsistencies. Nevertheless, the food is good, even if it was chicken instead of tri-tip 😄
Sammy's is some really good Barbeque! Who ever is cooking in the back has got some great talent! We stopped by for lunch and we got the tri tip. So good!! They had some good shows on the TVs football, and spongebob and had some good music playing too. Cozy little spot in the middle of Eureka! If you are passing through, or if you live here in Eureka, stop by. Its good.
We planned a company picnic with just a few weeks’ notice and Sammy’s came through for us! The meats were tasty and the service was great; they brought it to our location, set up the warming stations and everything we needed. The hot food arrived hot and the fruit and salad were fresh and delicious.
Dang, this place is GOOD!!! Excellent BBQ ribs!!! Our meal came with two sides. I selected the BBQ beans, my husband ordered the fries. My husband ate all my beans he never eats beans. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Always quality whole food with great service. Some of the best bbq you can find in Eureka. Best potato salad ever.

12/5/25 💙 This restaurant has excellent customer service. The girls at the front counter are awesome. Thank you Yesenia for your great attitude 💐 The food is always delicious and consistent… Big portions… Fantastic prices… Check it out!!!

BBQ was ok. Terriaki chicken was good. Noodle side dish was hokey...stay away. Overall ok but I smoke my own meat and am very picky.
Loved it. Can't wait for them to cater our wedding. Standouts were pulled pork, tritip, and sapasui. YUM.
Good takeout choice. Hawaiian style BBQ with the typical sides. Fast and friendly service, very reasonable prices.
Friendly service and delicious chicken and pork, even during a pandemic. We will definitely eat here again.
Excellent food, helpful staff and I love the sweet chili sauce. My go to options are Combo #1 with tri-tip or teriyaki chicken. Pineapple meatballs are excellent as well. Coleslaw is delicious!
I am getting prepared to have some catering done, so I stopped by to buy some samples. Here is what I have tried so far. Pineapple Cole slaw ( some of the best I have ever had) macaroni salad (did not care for) teriyaki chicken ( as good and tender as I expected.) Last but not least the pineapple meatballs, here I am extremely picky, ( they were very very good.) Next trip will be tri tip and kaluha pork. Also their potato salad. I have 50 guest and just want good food, that everyone will enjoy. So far I am happy.
Clean place, nice girl at the counter. Good food. I got teriyaki chicken with white rice and chop suey. The chop suey tasted just like if someone made it at home. The chicken was good and smokey.
The Tri Tip sandwich and fries were quite filling. The TriTip was extremely tasty it's melts in your mouth literally! I'm a weirdo though I don't like meat with fat so I had to cut the fat off the edges of the meat. I was really craving a fountain drink (Dr. PEPPER) I don't drink soda often but when I go to a restaurant for lunch I typically do especially when taking a break from yard work, so that was a little disappointing they had a odd drink selection. The dining area is very basic with a few pictures of Eureka High Football teams that were successful. Along with a few pictures of relatives who played college football and even NFL football! I'm curious where they BBQ at? Another BBQ restaurant in town Grills the meat right outside and the smell is INCREDIBLE! I don't recall ever smelling BBQ or seeing the smoke coming from Sammy's. They also provide catering services too! They have a restaurant in Arcata as well.
Was in the neighborhood and the delicious smell of B.B.Q. caught my attention. I sniffed out the source to discover "SAMMY'S B.B.Q.", I ordered a Tri-Tip sandwich with potato salad. It was absolutely amazing!!! The price was good also. $10 for what I ordered and I was able to share my hefty sandwich with my girl and we both were satisfied. The menu is simple but that was fine they had what I wanted, B.B.Q.!!!
The Eureka one is ok/good. I'm not the best to criticize restaurants, so please read more reviews before you go all in on my take on the place. I enjoyed the food and now that I look back at my visit, it was decent pay for good food. Sorry for striking your interest on my poor review from before, Owner of Sammy's BBQ.
Being from Texas, I figured I'd try some north California style bbq. I ordered tri-tip and pork ribs with Hawaiian coleslaw and chop suey. I loved the chop suey! The coleslaw was more a chopped salad but was good. The meat was good. I was not disappointed since it is a different style Bbq. I ate it all and was satisfied. I'd stop by again and would recommend trying it!
The ribs were almost fall off the bone tender. The Kalua pork was juicy and tender. The tri-tip was done medium and tender. All three meats had a light smoke flavor. The Teriyaki Chicken was the best of show, tender and the most flavor. The potato salad was good but on the eggy side. The pineapple coleslaw is different and I liked it, it's not made with mayo but is more tropical with just the pineapple juice. The french fries are the frozen variety, barely ok. The price was good, and we would definitely come back.

An OK trip tip sand. No grits, no collard greens and hardly any smoke flavor to the meat, but in a pinch and when you're hungry, who cares. Not Sonney's in Tahoe but whatevs... Would definitely eat again...

Ok food, was told certain things were gluten free in the menu and still had a bad reaction which I was really upset about. Food was flavorful though for the most part.
Had the teriyaki chicken sandwich but the chicken was fatty, kept having to spit out bites of gristle. Tried a friends pork & it was delicious. If I ever go again I'd try the pork sandwich. My friend swears by the ribs though.
I was expecting to get falling off the bone good BBQ, but they needed to cook it some more, it was also fatty and dry. Sure didn't meet the hyped up expectation that everyone spoke about. But the BBQ sauce in the containers were really good. Portion size was way too small for the amount they charge.
Portion size pretty small and food is grilled not bbqd. Canned beans. Bland mac salad. Fries were not good. Only redeeming quality was staff she was very nice and recommended probably the best that was to offer.

First off, this is Polynesian BBQ not that anything on the outside of the building says that. The BBQ had more fat than meat and not flavor. Bland potatoes and Mac salad. We actually ended up leaving our food that we paid for and got BBQ down the street at a place that sold real BBQ.
Both chicken and beef were dry. Way too little for way too much. Pineapple Slaw was very good.
Love the food here and service; never had a problem for years unfortunately this older blonde lady on phone hung up 3 times while asking questions when I called back i asked if they could hear me on the last few calls and was told yes..just confusing.
Went out for dinner around 530 pm on a Friday. They were out of soooo many things. After we waited 30 minutes for our food, the girl came out and said they were out of RICE! We ended up having to eat french fries with our family meal because all the other sides were sold out. It was incredibly disappointing and tasteless. Their ice machine was also broken so we had to drink warm tap water. An all around disappointing experience.
With the big sign on top of their building touting as the 2016 Best BBQ restaurant, I had talked to a few friends about their experiences at this new-ish place and was hesitantly told it was "Island" bar-b-q. I naively thought this implied something along the lines of sweeter sauces, like teriyaki or sweet & sour possibly. Now, having been there, I get what they mean. Shame on me for having a preconceived notion of what BBQ should be, but I expect BBQ to be smoky, fresh, big portions, tasty sides that lend themselves to historic BBQ, and just an overall feeling of "good times". When we walked up late afternoon, the bbq was shut down, but we could still smell the aroma, and it was great. It definitely made you hungry, and we could hear the country music hoppin' as we walked through the door, so we were looking forward to a fun, gut-bustin' experience. That euphoric feeling left the moment we walked in the door. The seating was all low-end tables and chairs arranged around the room, no booths. There were 3 or 4 TVs playing sports. The order area IIRC was just a folding table with a Square order screen on it, as well as the beer bottles they offered. Before you get irate saying "that's all you need to run a restaurant", I do agree. However, this was about as "no-frills" as I've ever seen. It looked like they were ready to pack up at the end of every workday, take everything home, and then come back and set up again the next day. So with no obvious expenses being laid out for the decor, I imagined the food would more than make up for it, as that must be where they shine. The offerings were 1 or 2 of the proteins, then 2 sides. The proteins were spareribs, tri-tip, Hawaiian meatballs, pulled pork, chicken ... and probably 3 other offerings that I can't now remember but I didn't give them a second thought as they were things I wouldn't ever order anyway. No brisket, no smoked sausage. The sides were french fries , rice, Hawaiian chips (which again, I naively thought must be a cool side that may be their specialty, but no, just bagged Hawaiian Chips, Maui onion I think), mac salad, coleslaw, and a couple other absolutely non-descript boring sides that are included just as an obligation to make it look like there's variety. There are two sauces. One is a homemade sweet and spicy glaze one might expect to dip deep fried prawns in. The other was a generic brown BBQ sauce that may have been from a bottle, may not, but there was nothing exciting about it. On the plus side, it could probably have been used for any of the proteins equally well. I have included a pic of my plate with tri-tip and spareribs. That plate was $13. Note the paper plate and plastic utensils. Note the keys and key fob for portion size. Note the 2 spareribs. My rib meat DID fall off the bone for the most part. Good Job. The ribs DID have a small amount of smoke ring. Good. Neither the tri tip nor the ribs had a discernible amount of smoke flavor. Not good. At all. My wife's tri-tip tasted EXACTLY like it had been re-heated in a microwave. Terrible. She ate about 1/3 of her already small portion and couldn't do anymore. Mac Salad was macaroni in mayo only, maybe some salt, and paprika for color. Nothing else to give it flavor, texture (besides squishy), color. The fries were crisp. Yay! I have traveled through Georgia, N and S Carolina, and experienced a decent cross-section of those BBQ styles. Gotta say I was amazed at a few back there that also had very little smoke, and I then realized that to some restaurants, just slow-cooking a protein is "close enough" to call it BBQ. I don't get it, but ok. The owners here seem to be plugged into the community as donors for kids sports, and that's wonderful. From the older woman serving and cleaning to the young lady that took our order, I'm assuming this is all run by family. Great, continue seeking that American dream and working together to do it. However, ppl of Humboldt... best BBQ of 2016? How? Why? On a portion size alone criteria, this is a terrible bang for the buck.
The tri-tip was a rather poor rendition of roast beef, not smokey or crusty in the least. BBQ sauce tasted like it came from a bottle. Very pedestrian food. Meh
The pork ribs were pretty good, everything else that we ordered was not. The potato salad tasted like a big spoonful of mayonnaise. The pineapple meatballs were mushy and coated in a thick sauce like orange chicken from a Chinese buffet. The plain white rice was inedible. All of this for $45. I am leaving two stars for the service. The girl upfront was patient and friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This was at the Eureka location
I called in my order of two tri tip sandwiches and my roommate wanted combo #1 with ribs but the guy taking my order said they were out of ribs. So I said okay I’ll just take the sandwiches, when I go in to pay they are charging me for a combo and the sandwiches. The macaroni salad was more like mayo and not creamy as usually it is. I don’t know if they just hire young people who don’t know how to listen but it’s irritating to be paying for something that I don’t want.
Disappointed with my first experience. The Arcata location was sold out of everything besides meatballs so I drove over to Eureka location and the food was a disappointment. The frozen fries were soggy. The Katsu chicken tastes like it was fried in old/unclean oil. The "canned" pineapple coleslaw was old/ bland and the pulled pork taste like it was steamed with nothing on it. Service was great, but this was not worth how expensive it is.
The beef egg roll tastes like car tire! Without a doubt the worst egg roll I've ever eaten. Do not order it. Most every thing else was just ok. The crab cheese puffs were tainted by the egg roll, as I can only assume that they are cooked in the same oil. Very small portion of fries. The pineapple meatballs weren't very flavorful at all. Over all a disappointment. The one thing that was really good was the teriyaki chicken.
Good food, but I really really like it when this place was Pizza Hut and Slice by New York Pizza.
I very rarely review anything, firstly i was excited to have homemade potato salad! Unfortunately this was (in my opinion the worst I’ve ever had, personally would not call it potato salad) Literally this tasted saltless, pepperless, potato salad mixed with frosting. Seriously bad. The katsu was cooked nicely but i have a hard time believing they serve a sandwich option without lettuce or something.. very weird food all around. Nice people tho.
I’ve never been here before, but I got some ribs to go and they were so tough it was akin to chewing on shoe leather. The lady who rang me up was very nice.
Very disappointing food overall. The chicken was dry and had no flavor without the generic teriyaki sauce. The fries were just awful and soft. The only nice part about the restaurant was the woman who took out order

Ants on the dirty table, a heap of slop that was mostly fat for the Kalua Pork and the pineapple slaw just doesn't even taste good. Out of half of the meats. Not worth the money.
Worst bbq i have ever had 1st we ordered through door dash i had ordered tri tip and teriyaki chicken with mac salad and rice the door dash driver sent a text saying they were oht of tri tip and mac salad when we said that there was nothing else we wanted to replace the missing items with the driver bailed and another driver picked up the order and sammya took it upon themselves to put pork in my box i do not eat pork very poor business. I personally will never go here again and stongly suggest that no one else does either
The food was good but never get cartering there. I paid 270$ today and got 3 trays only and one was just leduces. Total rip off this place. I get carting all the time at banana hut and u get twice the food for half the price. The cartering service is a complete scam.
Were the only people in the establishment and it's taken 25+ minutes to get our food. Hire some legitimate food service providers and not kids. The food is alright, Though.
Alot of money for small portions.fries were not cooked.
Spent 55$ on a "family meal" , what we received was certainly not anywhere near that. A half full box of cold, soggy, and yet somehow burnt fries, 3/4's (maybe) of a rack of ribs that were so loosely wrapped in foil that several of them found their way into the bottom of the takeout bag, and macaroni salad. Seriously?! Never again.
honestly some of the worst BBQ I've had..... everything was bland. most of the meat portion was fat, and my order of ribs was not in my to-go bag when I got home. The portions are also pretty small for a combo for 2 dinner. nice people though..
Food was horrible. Fries were soggy, asked for crispy fries. The tri tip sandwich was just hunks of meat slabs. Katsu Chicken was dry, mayonnaise couldn’t fix it. The crab cheese puffs were just ok. And the beef egg roll was also just ok. I won’t be ordering food from here again. I couldn’t even finish my food. Sorry to leave a bad review, but I feel like I wasted money
A very unimpressive meal. The pork ribs were the worst I've ever had anywhere, with little meat and little seasoning. The pineapple coleslaw was perhaps a quarter of a cup and not interesting. The fries were bland as well. And the meal was finished with one cookie ($2.50) which smelled a bit like bleach, had no appreciable flavor (no vanilla or any other) and 3 M&Ms on top. I won't be returning nor recommending this restaurant.
First time customer. It smells so good driving past I actually turned around and went back. Several issues. The girl who took my order clearly needs a refresher course in basic restaurant hygiene practices. The place needs some serious cleaning and updating. Someone’s togo order sat at the end of the counter in a bag. It just sat there. Getting cold. When I finally received my order, it was kind of a joke. Five dollar teriyaki bowl. Unfortunately, they used one piece of chicken for both teriyaki bowls. I clearly got shorted. It was kind of pink inside. I threw up about an hour ago. And I have quite literally been sick since I ate it. I’m still sick. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. And it’s sad too because I think it could be a good place to eat. But it needs help. I do not recommend it. At least not the way it is now. The place looks rundown. And from all outward appearances, I wasn’t even sure when I pulled up whether or not they were open, or out of business..
Went there with colleagues after work today. Ordered the "loaded" kalua pork fries and a pint of cider. The first indication there was a problem was when the server rang up the drink for $7. "I thought it was happy hour," I told her. "Oh, well, the cider is... different," she said, without elaborating. I pointed to the banner hanging prominently under the counter. "It says right here, Happy Hour, 4-6 PM, draft beer and cider $4," I replied. It was 4:30. She seemed flustered, but revised the check to reflect the advertised price. We then took our seat. The inside of the restaurant was chilly (ambient temperature or less, low 50s), and I regretted not putting on a third layer. Our food was ready in about 10-15 minutes. I was immediately disappointed when I saw the tiny portion. Imagine a small-sized fast food style paper french fry basket, like in-n-out. Then picture it being filled less than 1/2 way to the top, a literal handful of fries topped with a few specks of indeterminable grey substance. At least there was a drizzle of some kind of sauce on top (I'd asked for ranch but didn't recognize it as such). The fries were edible, the few of them that there were. The pork was cold, like gobs of congealed fat, flavorless and lacking any semblance of texture. It reminded me of what I'd expect to find at a school cafeteria, except even then the portion size would be at least enough to last more than a couple of bitefuls. There's a number of decent BBQ places in Eureka. Sammy's unfortunately is not one of them. If you do still think of dining here, be on high alert for bait-and-switch pricing.
