Discovered this place when searching for a place to have dinner when visiting my son at college. I wanted to treat him to a real steak before he went back to his college student food options...lol. Yes, this is a bar, but even though we aren't really bar people, we are steak people. So, based on our research, we went here. And now, we go back at least four times or more a year.....when I'm footing the bill. The steaks are great. They have one or two person menu options. The menu is limited and is on the wall. Service is done by the bartenders and they seem to have a small kitchen with one cook. The place is not at all pretentious and the people are real....both the staff and the customers.
This place is Top-notch. Blue collar type of joint the chicks who run the show do one hell of a job. Horseradish and cottage cheese went perfectly with the ribeye. It was a proper meal returning from the redwoods.
Traveling with my husband found this place. We both wanted steak, we were not disappointed. The steak was amazing! Cooked perfectly. The mac and cheese bites were great! If we were just driving through we would definitely be going back!
Was my last night with my granddaughter, who's resides in Eureka, and I wanted a steak dinner. So we looked up various reviews of various establishments and chose this place. From the moment we entered we felt welcomed and received excellent customer service. Our meals were delicious and we took our desserts back to our AIRBNB and they were delicious!
Had an excellent rib-rye steak with baked potato and salad. Very generous portions, $35. The menu has a lot of entrees including fish and chips and porterhouse steak etc. Funky old time bar atmosphere with horseshoe shaped counter and a few tables. The bloody mary was also good. Worth checking out!
I do not drink anymore, so i just order a water. I've been going on my birthday the last few years, this year i had a porterhouse and it was fantasic. I highly recommend getting one of their steaks.
Just got take out from them. TOP NOTCH STEAK! They put a beautiful char on it! The salad was garden fresh! Nicely done staff at AA! BRAVO! this is only my second or third time eating there despite all the good things I've heard about them over the years. I'll be going more often. One of the last few places in eureka where you can get a good steak.
Always one of the best steak restaurants in Humboldt.
It is a bar with bar atmosphere. Service was good with both drinks and food. I had an 8 oz filet med rare. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection 👌. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely go back.
My girlfriend and I had steak dinners at the AA Bar on July 4. The dinner was good but fairly pricey. The steaks were large and juicy. My girlfriend ate about half of her steak. The dinners came with soup or salad and baked potato, onion rings or french fries. I recommend ordering gorgonzola butter (melted on the steak) for $3 extra.
It's a dive bar with really great steaks! Good drinks, great people and a delicious salted caramel brownie. Only a couple of tables, so expect to sit and eat at the bar unless you get there early or get lucky.
This is by far the best restaurant for steak in Eureka California. Yes, it is a bar. But the local clientele are friendly as well as the service. We sat on the back patio. We had the rib steaks upgraded with a blue cheese butter on top. It was flat delicious. This could easily be the place where everyone knows your name! And the bathroom was clean!
AA bar and grill were recommended by two people we asked where to eat. When we walked in, my husband said, "This is my kind of place ." Food fresh and hot. Friendly people.
I think this is the best steak in town and for a bar and grill by the courthouse you may be surprised. Strong drinks and a wonderful staff. Bunch of TVs to watch games, but for big games they won't turn on the audio (NBA Finals, World Cup, etc.). That'd be my only critique is to know what the people want and what may improve the fun atmosphere to create more business later. Love AA!
Awesome! Looks like an old tavern from the outside. Just a red door and an old AA sign from the 1970's hanging over the top of the building. Inside it's your standard bar. Horseshoe center bar. Here's the cool part. The food, steaks, brunch, lunch is AMAZING! There's a good crowd because the food and service are top notch. Really cool neighborhood feel tavern-style establishment. With great food and people. Cool place
Ignore any dive bar comments and go here. The beer is good, the steaks are awesome and the service was just fine. It's a real bar, not some tourist trap with huge printed menus! Large horseshoe bar with a few tables round the outside. Very relaxed and plenty of sport to watch. Prices are reasonable if not good for the quality of food you get to eat. If I'm ever in Eureka again I'll be coming here!
Born and raised in Eureka, but never knew this little gem existed! I was 18 when I moved 100s of miles away may be a reason. So my daughter and son in law took us for lunch and it was FANTASTIC! Best filet mignon I have ever eaten! Bar tender, server, cashier all in one was fabulous! Can't wait for our next visit to Eureka!
Ana and Bailey made our evening here the most amazing night of our motorcycle adventure. Excellent rib eye steaks, great cocktails, and the best, friendly environment ever. We'll definitely remember this place forever and make an effort to come back here next time.
Best steaks I've ever had! Always friendly service!
Steaks were SPOT ON, drinks were tops as well! Love this place!
Great meal! Tender meat with perfect seasoning. The gorgonzola and butter topping is wonderful. The twice baked potato is soft and delicious. My only gripe is the salad is just a simple side salad, no frills. Maybe the addition of any of the following: purple onion, wax peppers, cheese, possibly a boiled egg, etc, would make the meal beautiful. But with that being said, the meat and potatoes were so good that it really didn't matter!
Came here for Valentine's day 2025 and had a wonderful experience. We were visiting from out of town and didn't have any reservations, so we ended up here. We did have to wait a bit which was understandable but our server sat us as soon as she could, and was very lovely for the duration of our dinner. The porterhouse was great, as were all of our sides and drinks. One thing I want to mention - with a house full of guests THANK YOU for not blasting the music inside. We were actually able to enjoy our dinner and have a conversation instead of having to yell over music and other conversations. If I'm ever back in the area and craving steak and a drink, I'd come here!
Best service and the best steak I have had in a very long time. The cheesecake maple and bacon was absolutely amazing.
There steaks are amazing, good service, good food and good company
We were recommended to stop in to this place. Had a drink. Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Wish we would have had supper there as it look delicious!
Great little dive bar styled place to grab a steak in Eureka. The bar staff were great and the food was delicious. We had the soup and salad to start and steak as a main. Steak was cooked to perfection. If ever in the area, I would definitely come again!
Absolute best steaks anywhere around Eureka & the surrounding area.
For what it is, definitely the best steak joint in its class. I had, two steaks there on two separate occasions. Absolutely fantastic, and I worked at Ruth's Chris... If you are looking for good steak, without the markup of a fancy atmosphere. This is it.... Also do yourself a solid, try to gorgonzola butter...Five stars in all categories take into consideration the type of place this is... This is not an upscale spot, this is a dive, with better steaks than most upscale joints I've been to.
Hands down the best ribeye in Humboldt county. But get there early if you can cuz there's only so much seating
If you want a Great steak AA is second to none. Food is Great, simple basics, Salad, French fries or Onion rings. It's a bar so all in your party needs to be 21. Drinks are plentiful, from diet soda to beer to mixed drinks they have it all. Go to AA you won't regret it!!
The food is amazing, y'all should know by now. Too bad it's a bar and loud. The steaks make up for that though
Hm! Grateful to the person who recommended AA Bar & Grill to me. The atmosphere was buzzing! The people were hearty and the service by Britney and her colleague was simply superb! The food, well, I had a rib eye and it was sumptuously delicious 😋 Definitely visiting AA Bar & Grill again! See you there sometime!
On the TV there's another spectacle, hardly war and more of what they call reality. Quietly the light dims over us and our spirits slide further into our dead gardens. We shuffle through our winter and hope there is an explosion of life after this death, a light that will let us grow again and one where I feel like leaning back in my chair again... AA has the best bang for your buck lunch awesome staff and food, full bar!
We went here because somebody else recommended it and it was pretty darn good, not very often you find a place to get a good steak in a bar type atmosphere. It's a little small and they only had a few tables which I would have preferred but they had a large curved bar and could seat quite a few people, including our group of four. Like most bars it was loud but on the curved part of the bar we could at least see each other and had conversation. The steaks were very good, and reasonably priced, service was a little bit slow but the place was busy and I found it very acceptable I would go there again to get a good steak.
We are HSU alumni ('96) and were married at nearby Jacoby Creek. We are dumbstruck that we didn't discover this fabulous place until recently. The service was great. The food superb. We went back the next day for lunch and the best Bloody Mary's we've had in a long time. We visit often from Tehama County and this place will be at the top of our list.
It was my first stop when going bar hopping and the place has a great vibe, the bartender was very friendly and she was very fun. The friendly staff definitely adds to the Cozy vibe. Good place to go for a late bite to eat or drinks
The servers are skilled and knowledgeable about the food and options. Hands down, the best steaks in the county and most places I've been elsewhere!! The soups offer best bites over the bag salad option, and they know how to bake potatoes right. You're served a bit of cottage cheese, and a dollop of horseradish on the side... don't get them confused!! I once confused the horseradish for my sour cream, that was one intensely flavored baked potato!! My hubby gets the onion rings in lieu of the potato (fries are another option, and twice baked potatoes) Also... it's always worth the $3 to add the gorgonzola butter sauce to your steak! They have house made cheesecake, but I've never been able to try it, I'm so stuffed full of amazing steak! You get a small discount for ordering two of the same steak together. This place is mostly a bar, with a few 4 and 2 seater options. If it's an important event, make a reservation, but don't bring a crowd, they would never fit!! Worth the effort to get a seat here, I've never been disappointed. They also have some tasty appetizers, but I keep it to the steak, it is just that good!! They also do breakfast on Saturday, brunch on Sunday, and lunch some days with a good looking menu. Any meat eater can find something tasty on their menu at any meal... I think the prices are great for the quality of the product!!
Old school. The real deal. We really enjoyed our cocktails and steaks. The denizens abided. Everyone was hanging out, only the one tourist group ate and ran. There are a few cool bars in Eureka, there are a lot of slick bars in old town. AA is keeping it real.
Such a fun place! Not very big so be prepared to sit at the bar unless you want to wait for a table or sit outside on the patio. We sat at the bar and had fun watching the gals make drinks while waiting on all of us. The food was delicious, served with a smile and offer of anything else needed. We split a steak and potato and were full after enjoying the amazing cheddar mushroom broccoli soup. We are from redding and will visit here every time we come to eureka. The service was amazing 👏 🤩
Back for a second time, and the 8oz Filet Mignon didn't disappoint! This time I paired it with the prawns and the fantastic twice-baked potato. Seriously, this steak is a standout. The gorgonzola butter is a game-changer, adding a wonderful depth of flavor to the already perfectly seasoned and cooked (medium-rare) steak. The twice-baked potato was also spot on and delicious. The minestrone soup was another highlight - perfectly seasoned and a joy to eat.
We decided to stop in and try the steaks for our Anniversary. We went in around 4:15pm (dinner starts at 4pm) and easily found a table. The steaks were melt in your mouth perfect. The Gorgonzola butter is good but a bit salty. Justine was fantastic - she was holding down the bar and serving tables with a smile.
Eating at AA Grill felt like stepping into a classic small-town dive bar—and I mean that in the best way. The vibe was super laid-back, and the food totally surprised us. The fried chicken was crazy crispy (in a good way!), though I think the batter could use just a bit more seasoning. My husband’s steak was huge and cooked perfectly medium-rare—he was very happy. Service was chill and steady. Overall, a great little spot we’ll definitely hit up again.
We were 2 starving people came here late night after a 6hr hiking. My friend saw the steak sign as we drove by so we visited this place without any prior review/plan. It was mid summer time and house was full. Steak was great! (Taste, portion size, and price all very satisfying) I also loved their local cider, couldn’t remember the name but got me trying cider in every bar I went thereafter.
Trying to copy/paste the lengthy review I dropped into Yelp but... I was visiting eureka for pre construction site visits the next day, this was Tuesday night. Checked into hotel and had passed AA Steakhouse on the way to hotel. Looked it up, less than a mile away. Arrived to find an old school looking establishment, with a red door - which is a good sign. Horseshoe shaped bar, menu's written on blackboards, as was pointed out to me, and because it was 8 pm and my plan was to eat, shower and go to bed. I didn't want to eat heavy or a big steak. Ordered fish and chips, subbed chips for salad, came with chicken dumpling soup. Coupled this with an adult libation and it was outstanding. If it had been earlier and I were to have a dessert, I would have gotten another bowl of that chicken dumpling soup. I don't come to eureka but maybe every year or so. However, this is my place for when I again find myself in eureka. The service staff are very accomidating. And because I was skylarking at others steaks, next time I'll definitely get sumthing red, dead and corn feed!
Had the 14oz sirloin with salad and 50/50 frys and onion rings. Steak was excellent but couldn't eat it all ... thick and tender for a sirloin. Great atmosphere and busy for a Monday. Nice staff and very attentive. Reminds me of local bars in Alaska .... very friendly and engaging.
Best straight-up steaks in the county. Nothing fancy, and the atmosphere is "grungy local bar," but the comfort food is good. Come here for weekend breakfast or simple dinners any evening, but be sure you know what you want when the bartender/waitress asks the first time or you'll wait half an hour for her to get back to you again.
It's a good small business. Well trained staff. The steaks are expensive for what they are. If you want to get a buzz in Eureka, crush a steak dinner, it's the spot.
I visited twice in July 2024. First time was pretty good and the steak was great. Second visit at least one employee could not keep her political opinion to herself and seemed more intent on serving the locals and off duty employee then the rest of us.
Kim is awesome, drinks were on point, food was amazing for the price!!!! Loved the hospitality and am greatful to have stopped here on my adventure.
This place used to have the best steaks in town. We came here on Valentine's Day because you didn't need a reservation. The bartenders are a little mean to you, but I liked it. The food came out a little cold/room temperature like it's been sitting for awhile. If I'm paying $50 bucks for a steak it better come out hot. I think they rested it for too long because the gorgonzola butter I ordered to go on top wasn't even melting. But the drinks are good here. And we ended up having a grand ol time.
The AA bar & Grill is a steakhouse in Eureka, CA. The restaurant is clean, parking is easily available on the streets nearby. I ordered steak ( 14 once’s top sirloin) and fries with blue cheese topping, they were perfect, crispy and juice. When you order a steak it comes with a choice of soup or salad. I selected the salad, it was Ok. The only thing that was not perfect was the service, only two people for the whole restaurant. Despite of that, I do recommend this place for anyone that loves nice steaks.
The place was packed! Only 2 servers running around taking care of everything and they were busy!!! I felt bad because although we didn't see our server much, when we did see her she was friendly and pleasant. The biggest disappointment came from the food. The steak was overcooked, the rest of our order was cold and/or overcooked. I was so sad! I have eaten here before and the steak was amazing and memorable. This time it was a whole different experience. 😥
This place is a mixed bag. The food was good, and the atmosphere is okay, but our waitress was not the best. Kind of curt and snappy, and wasn’t real happy to be there. Blonde hair, middle aged.
Wife and I are in town for 1 night as we travel up 101 to Northern Oregon. Hotel staff (local girl) suggested this place for a good steak. Wife and I ordered a 14oz Top Sirloin. Asked for medium and got bloody plate rare. Side salad was generic as Denny's. Place was loud. Service was good, but we won't be repeat customers.
The food was definitely good I've had both the pork chops and the steaks during my stay in Eureka. Kind of pricey but so far compared to other places it's priced about the same as the other places in time but serve steak. However the bartender Hannah or Anna needs an attitude adjustment. I understand that places get busy but her tact leaves a lot to be desired. She's the reason why I won't go back while I'm still here working in Eureka
Back alley entrance, food was good maybe pricey but I usually don't order steak but burgers were a lunch item not served at dinner time. Craft beers on tap were good at a fair price. Could stand to update to larger TV's. Quant little place with a good crowd of people. I'd go back if in the area for lunch, maybe award another star ;-)
I spoke with Jessica on 9.24 11:37 & asked if could order a whole cheesecake pie through establishment ,she said yes, but she was leaving for the weekend but would get back later in day, didn't happen. This would of been such a great surprise for my boyfriends b-day, tried last year also & nobody at AA Steak would not answer phone calls..Guess I need to go elsewhere a place who cares & caters to their customers like Toni's restaurant in Arcata,ca...Such a disappointment,..
We have never been treated so terribly! While traveling with our children we were calling to find a place to eat with outdoor seating. Upon calling I was told, "Come on down darlin', we're open!" We were like wow, she was friendly let's go there! We parked and asked two sherrif's standing by their vehicle if the food was good, "Yes, it's fantastic!" No mention of the children not being welcome, and they were each holding my hands in plain view. We walk in after a long drive (kiddos had to use the restroom of course), and were immediately asked to leave. Not once, but three times. Rudely and loudly asked to leave because we had children. Not once have I ever been to a steakhouse where children were not welcome, not once. If we had known that was the case, we wouldn't have taken the time to unload everyone and walk in. On top of that, we were treated like we committed a crime. I am appalled by the staff's behavior, and would never recommend this place. Also, the staff was smoking cigarettes inside and mentioned that the City Manager was present which is why we had to leave. What a great place for the City Manager to be on a Tuesday night. Hopefully the rest of Eureka isn't this unfriendly, just amazed . . .
Tried to get a steak here and literally couldn't--the sign may say "bar and grill" but unlike other "bar and grills" where anyone can go there to eat, they wouldn't let three adults in the door because one of us didn't have ID on hand, even though we just wanted steaks and had no interest in ordering alcohol. The staff also looked at the two asian people who entered first like they were lost and should get out, but didn't even say anything to them until a white guy joined them. It's hard to say whether that was overt racism or just rude service, but I wouldn't come back if you paid *me* to eat the steak after that treatment. It also looked so seedy inside the people I was with were half-glad we got shooed away at the door, and had no interest in going back to get their ID. If you're running a bar that advertises itself on steaks, maybe put "bar" in bigger letters on the sign than "steak" to avoid the disappointment of trying to go out to eat and getting rejected at the door.
Horrible experience!... once again...Customer service was HORRIBLE....I didn't even get to order the steak I wanted.. AAA treated my guest eaters like trash. I will not be returning. Good luck everyone!. Those were the best steaks in town I heard. NOW WHAT?!
Don’t bother here, You cannot bring your 18 & 20 yr old adult kids to this place when on vacation. The Barmaids won’t even just let you eat there. Maybe it’s for locals only. Lost our appetite anyway with those short shorts pulled up to her chest.
The Female Latina bartender was the worst ever. Negative stars.
Pricey. The lady didn't wanna take the order on the phone cause she said she was busy so got down to go inside proceed to place our order then she said it's an hour wait . It was not that busy in there. The bar part maybe but not dine in for food. Disappointed but maybe will come back when we come back cause I really wanted to try the food here
But for one staff member who was rude and abrupt and totally cursed, this place would’ve been a good choice. Apparently, they were offended when I said I just came from San Francisco and drove all the way here specifically to eat because they’re apparently having some no kings Day celebration and I thought they were abundantly going to extract Gavin Newsom from his governorship and she was distraught with that and suggested that she was part of that crowd who was for no kings and that it was an anti-Trump rally supporting group and that she was not going to serve me And therefore took the menu and ran off when I reported it to the bartender she took my testimony, however, nothing was done, and so consequently, I explained politely that they will no longer have my business nor my family business nor my colleagues or friends or associates business, nor I recommend them whatsoever at all based on this abysmal display and bad behavior
Their hours say open until 10:30p but the kitchen doesn’t take orders after 8:30. I made the mistake of saving this place for our last night in town as it was our anniversary and wanted simmering special. We walked in at 8:30, having dodged through the convicts hanging out from the jail across the street, but excited for a couple of their filets. Instead, the bartender right away yells that the kitchen isn’t taking any more orders…period. I realize this place can’t be trusted and, that excitement i mentioned, became disappointment. Now with most places closing at 9pm, we had to find another place to eat. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I believe in living up to your advertising and AA Grill failed totally.
We are OTR trucker and visited this place twice a couple of years ago. The last two times, we've had the best ribeye steaks. So this time, we decided to skip breakfast and lunch from Eugene, OR and drove all the way here on our way to Windsor, CA for another ribeye steak. Ordered 2 of 16oz ribeye for $64, medium-well and was very disappointed. Steaks were dry, hard, barely warm and just blah. Just the complete opposite of what we were hoping for all day! If only we weren't starving.... It is not worth adding 2 hours to our route and not worth that $64!
Was a great place, until we had to interact with the bartender. Self absorbed blonde with attitude that was very hard to deal with as soon as we walked through the door. We have been small bar/restaurants owner/operators in the past and have a full appreciation of how things run. But this was a bit more than required, and got the impression that she was running off of what her looks let her get away with, over what her experience or skill was actually valued at.
Came here to eat with my wife on a Friday at noon. Every table was empty. We were turned away because I didn’t have my ID on me while we were walking around downtown. Wasn’t planning on buying alcohol. Despite being called a “Bar & Grill” this establishment only offers bar services. We went to a nearby competitor, a grill with a bar that also served alcohol, and the hostess looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if I needed ID just to eat food, and she was equally confused to hear AA was turning away customers for no good reason. The bar was absolutely packed with alcoholics though despite being noon on a Friday, so if you’re a couple or family, steer clear. If you’re at rock bottom this might be the place for you.
I called to see if they were hiring or if I could send my information via email ., because I don’t live nearby and was trying to get a list of places that might actually be hiring to visit. I was also very sick and had just lost my job, trying to figure things out. The woman who answered responded in a harsh, angry tone, saying, "You're calling instead of coming in? You won’t get the job. Anyway," and immediately hung up on me. I’m glad that I had that interaction first though cause there’s no way in hell I would want to work with someone so cold. That's not the way to talk to people and if thats how you treat a random person over the phone I can only imagine how horrible she is in person. I have loved coming by Double a's mainly for the food since i was a kid, but that lady just lost a lifelong customer and potential good coworker over her terrible heartless attitude. As a bartender myself for years I would never treat anyone that way especially answering on a work phone at work. Every other person i talked to this day were nice helpful and gave me emails and ideas of places to check out. Try hiring less miserable people. Disgusting behavior. Im sure she did that in front of customers as well with how busy it sounded in the backround and probably went and laughed it off afterwards how evil to treat someone who is just struggling to find work during the holidays ????
Wow, this was my second time trying this restaurant and I won't be going back for a 3rd attempt. The service here was extremely poor, I came in for breakfast this time, I had 3 in my party and 2/3 didn't get their complete order, then when we mentioned that we didn't receive all of our food we were given only 1 of the missing items and then the bill came, I asked for a glass of water at the end and the server told me to follow her to the bar to get the water! Wow! Maybe the server was overwhelmed with the less than 20 people who were there but I think that she felt that her job was done when she delivered our check even though we didn't even get all of the food that we ordered. i like to think that I'm an easy customer to serve, I didn't cause a big fuss about the missing food, I mentioned it and we received part of the missing food so rather than keep complaining I just decided that I wouldn't be going back to this place. It's a dive bar, sure but they should still make sure to provide the service that their customers had paid for, I didn't order anything more than their meals already had included. And the food that I did receive was terrible, if you go here NEVER order the biscuits and gravy! It was super bland and seemed like they just added flour to milk to make the gravy that was poured on top of some nasty stale biscuits. Maybe the hash browns that were missing from the order would have compensated for the lackluster biscuits and gravy but I never got those even though they were included with the meal. I doubt they were all that fabulous considering the quality of what I did receive. I figured that if I had to hold their hand to get my food that I would probably get food that was tampered with or something, maybe spit on or dropped on the floor intentionally. . I wouldn't recommend this place to someone that I disliked. It's too bad because I really wanted to like this place, but if you aren't going to sit at the bar and only order drinks then this isn't the spot to dine
I used to go to AA for breakfast every weekend and it was always awesome in every way. It's definitely a dive bar atmosphere, it has its charm. Today was the first time I'd been there in a year or more. They had only one person bartending/serving and one person in the kitchen - I can't see any reason for them to have a skeleton crew when they're so busy and I know they're raking it in, so my complaint is about the business more than the staff. It took about 30 minutes before we got the server's attention long enough to order (just barely). The coffee was cold and there was definitely no opportunity for refills. The food, which used to be so delicious, was AWFUL. The gravy tastes like paste, just raw flour, no seasoning, a few specs of sausage that did not add any flavor. No part of the meal was seasoned. Two of our 3 breakfasts came out with no hash browns, which is like a third of the breakfast. By the time we finally got those hash browns, we were finished eating so we were over it by then but they only sent out one order instead of the two we were shorted. We weren't trying to wait another half hour or more to get it sorted. We just won't be going back. There are enough good restaurants in Eureka at this point, resting on your laurels is not going to work anymore.
