Wow! This place has excellent Chinese food! Above average portion sizes! I will definitely be going there again!
The only place I go for Chinese food near Fayetteville. The pork katsu and honey Walnut shrimp and chicken are delicious. Don't try anywhere else in the area before Oriental Star.
Never once disappointed with some of the best sushi we have ever had,it's our Go To
We frequent this place almost every week. The staff is super friendly and the sushi and maki is affordable and really good.
Delicious food and friendly staff. Top rate sushi and sashimi. The Thai basil fried rice is outstanding
Wonderful service, with the best wait staff. Food is always quick and delicious... defiantly recommend to anyone
We go there often with friends. The food is always delicious and beautifully presented. One of our favorites!
This is my go to in the Fayetteville area when we want to pick up sushi or Chinese. Very friendly and fast service!
We go here all the time! Great sushi, affordable prices, and excellent service.
We have come here for years. The food is great, fast service, accurate order.
The staff is very friendly and hospitable, and they have the best sushi in town.
Wonton soup is amazing, homemade noodles that melt in your mouth. Very relaxing and quiet.
They have a great selection of food. I’ve never been disappointed eating there.
I always get takeout here. Literally right down the hill from my house. I love the Indonesian Li Mein, and the Thai Basil Fried Rice. Both spicy.
We've tried all the local options, and Oriental Star is by far the best! Consistently fresh and flavorful and friendly, fast service. They've become our "go to" for take out.
Had a great dinner. Everything we had was awesome. Dragon Roll, General Tao Chicken and an incredible Crispy Red Snapper. Great service
My first time ordering take out and it was ready so fast ! Very good quality food. Very nice place. I will be back
The food is excellent and the customer service is superb! My favorite sushi place.
Great food, friendly inviting staff. Large menu that has a little something for everyone With vegetarian and vegan options. Love this place!
This place is great...my coworkers and I went here for lunch today. We only had an hour so we ordered before we arrived. (about 10 minute drive) the sushi was ready within 5 minutes of us sitting down. The lunch special was very reasonably priced (comes with soup or salad) and they brought orange slices and fortune cookies with the bill :)
Much better than your average Chinese restaurant. The staples are very good (recommend the General Tso) with a lot of variety. I especially like the sushi, I always get at least one roll with my orders, a treat!
This is our go to place for Asian food. Everything is delicious and the menu has endless options from Thai food to sushi to teriyaki to an array of Chinese dishes. The service is always excellent and the prices honestly can't be beat. The restaurant is always very quiet, clean, and pleasant. Everything I have tried has been amazing, but I would recommend the spring rolls, dumplings, and Mongolian beef.
I've been to so many places that offer sushi. Oriental star is by far the best quality vs. price I've ever experienced. They have such a great selection in the all you can eat (Its hard to find squid, roe and octopus on all you can eat anywhere else) I've been going to this place for around 15 years and I have never had a bad experience. The staff does thier job, they are prompt with orders and say thank you back. That's all I ask for out of my service. The place itself is homey and cozy, nothing fancy. It feels like a hidden Fayetteville gem.
Food is so good and fresh. Great prices too. When in the area we get carryout at least once. Our go to's are Sushi, fried rice, orange beef
Great sushi, and tempura! Wonderful service, so nice. Have gone again and again. 2022 Update: still delicious. Best spicy crunchy tuna roll around. That and the shrimp tempura.
Absolute delicious sushi at unbeatable prices. Chef adds a variety of ingredients to regular rolls, and the flavor is downright Amazon. Can't recommend enough. The Maki combo, which is 3 rolls for $13, comes with epic Miso soup.
Fresh, delicious, friendly staff, we brought a first timer they couldn't stop talking about the food, Sesame chicken, the crispy bean curd, the wontons! And that was only our order, the whole menu is A+++. Our favorite place to show off to new friends and out of towners.
We order from here several times a month. The food is always excellent. They have a drive through window and have been practicing excellent social distancing. The people are always friendly. Love this place!
My favorite place to get sushi when I go home to visit. The prices are reasonable and the spicy crunchy tuna roll tops any other place I have been to. The staff has always been super friendly and professional there as well.
We were a party of three and all ordered Chinese food dishes. This was our first time eating at Oriental Star. The meals were hot, the ingredients fresh, the sauces had some character and the portions were generous. The inside of the restaurant was clean, the service prompt and efficient. Well go back to continue to try other dishes. Japanese, Indonesian, Thai and Chinese dishes offered.
I just went for take-out but the short time I was in there, I do have to say that the location is beautiful, the atmosphere is comfortable and lovely, with soft music playing in 5he background. Theres a gorgeous little koi tank near the entrance (I love koi lol). Their egg rolls were tiny and portions a little smaller than other places I have been but definitely still enough to fill your belly. I got three meals, egg rolls, and crab ragoons for 25 bucks, around lunch time. Overall, recommended place and my husband liked their rice better.
The all you can eat sushi is a great deal, high quality fish, well prepared. Nothing terribly fancy, but it doesn't need to be. We also ordered the udon noodle soup... A huge bowl filled with a variety of ingredients.
Iv gone here about a dozen times now. Everytime i get something new and everytime my minds blown. The absolute best chicken and broccoli and garlic chicken iv ever had anywhere ever. I wish I knew how to give them a better review. Also, thank you for staying open during this pandemic!! Much appreciated!!
Delicious sushi at a great price. With Covid they are fast and have a drive-thru. Already went there twice in one week. This is still my favorite sushi place to date. May 2022
All you can eat sushi for 21.95 cant beat that. Be aware if you order more than you can eat you will get charged for whats left on your plate. This is a well known fact but some people cant be bothered to read.
Quick easy, pork katsu was delicious
Food is always delicious. Service is always excellent. The family that owns the place is extremely nice. Nothing to complain about from us, we eat here all the time. Maki combo is where it's at.
Love love love this local place. Always consistent and authentic always great flavors and service. Everything on the menu is great! I go here wayyy to often so good
This is the place I love bringing anyone who is visiting me from out of town, the food is always great.
The restaurant is beautiful! I ordered takeout, but will definitely be going back to eat in! The food was made so fast and was very delicious!
I love Oriental Star! It is my favorite restaurant for Chinese, Japanese, and Sushi! Excellent food! Great size portions. Clean, cozy, atmosphere. I can't say enough good things about this place. We just love it! It's been in business in Fayetteville for over 20 years!! Very nice place.
Really like the food here, have ordered here for the past 10 years every once in a while. Satisfied 95% of the time; they are really consistent with the quality of their food. Price-wise, ngl, you receive really good food for a REALLY low price (relative to other restaurants that serve Asian cuisine in the area). They need to advertise the right stuff more, like their lunch specials, since I would honestly expect way more people to come to their restaurant, given their consistency and great quality. Wait times are pretty quick too.
This little gem always delights. Best sushi in Syracuse, and a great value! Really appreciate that they have a huge menu of non-sushi items for those who prefer regular Oriental fare. They serve excellent Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai menu items. Unlike others with this large of a menu, all are excellent and of high quality!
One of my favorite Asian restaurants. They serve a large selection of sushi, Chinese & Japanese entrees. They will adjust the "heat level." Service is quick & helpful. Food is excellent & pricing is comparable to other similar restaurants. Decor is simple.
The best hot & sour soup I’ve ever had! Their volcano roll is delicious. One of my favorite restaurants since I was little!
I’ve been coming here for about 9 years now and I’ve never been happier, this place has been with me through thick and thin. Whether you’re looking for amazing sushi, or just a nice place to eat this IS THE ONLY OPTION.
My partner and I go here regularly for take-out and dine-in. We love their sushi, shumai, egg rolls, Singapore mei fun and other noodle dishes, Thai basil fried rice, and soups (their egg drop soup is THE BEST). Service is always excellent.
I’ve been here multiple times, dine-in and take-out. I haven’t come across a place that beat their lunch menu, price- and taste wise. Services were attentive and great generally all the time I stayed to eat. The sashimi tasted fresh. They even have a drive-thru. How convenient! One thing I don’t really like: their chairs and tables are small. Booths are hard. That’s it. However, my friends were fine spending some time on those chairs. They’re a mom and pop restaurant. I wish more people know about them. I’d be a regular if I don’t live across town.
The absolute best sushi in Syracuse. Everything is always fresh. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. We have been going several times a month for the past few years and have yet to find anywhere else in Syracuse that compares. Our favorites are the Hawaii, Godzilla, and Dragon Fly rolls. Other items we love are the chicken sticks, general Tao's chicken, avocado salad, and bbq spare ribs. They are open late (closed Mondays) and even have a drive through window. We could not recommend them more.
The best sushi in town!! They also have the best house salad. Shrimp, crab legs, avocado and homemade ginger dressing…so good!!!! The restaurant is clean and the staff are always friendly. I love the drive-thru, too!
Been looking for a good Pad Thai spot!! Curry is also delicious!!!
Not packed, amazing food, friendly service. I come here almost every Friday.
This is one of my favorite restaurants ever. I have never had a bad meal here. The food is always hot when it gets to you, it's fresh, and the flavors are on point. I adore the staff. They always know my drink, soup, and appetizer order. Most of the time I come in and they bring me the soup and drink within a minute of sitting down. I can't say enough good things about this place.
This by far is the best place for Sushi, I’ve tried numerous places & this is my favorite. Always fresh …
Absolutely delicious and our favorite in the area now for Chinese and Japanese! We love that there is both (and more) on the menu as we clash on what to have sometimes. Their sushi is also fresh and plentiful. The wonton soup was amazing and the fried rice was very tasty. The best part is that it wasn't overly salty which always pushes me away from other restaurants in the area serving this type of food. Highly recommend.
A hidden gem in Fayetteville NY ! The service is good! The sushi is exceptional. Especially for celiac disease, patrons. They have drive-through which is amazing and very rare for sushi restaurant.
Oriental Star is my #1. This has been my favorite local sushi/Japanese spot for over 15 years now. I rarely ever order out but easily over 50% of the takeout I get comes from here. The food has always been excellent, and the folks who run it are some of the best. They're always friendly and helpful, and accommodating, even when I had to call in a large catering order on 24 hr notice. And the prices are nigh unbeatable, especially for the quality. I recommend them anytime someone's asks for food recommendations and I always try to stop in when I can for some takeout, or a sashimi plate and some hot sake, or a proper sit-down meal whenever I have the time.
I’ve been going here since Mrs. Lee owned it, when it was the old restaurant. I know what I want and it’s quick, affordable, and always the same quality. Great place for American Chinese takeout. I have no clue if there is dine in. I haven’t done that since like 1997.
Update 11/2023 - It's nice to see their indoor dining hours restored. We had Sushi tonight and it was excellent as always. They really do seem to be one of the most consistent restaurants I have been to. The service has been excellent the last couple times as well. Prices remain reasonable... Still 5 Stars. Update 12/2022 - Still a really great place but since COVID their indoor dining hours have been very limited which is a shame as this was one of the few nice indoor dining Chinese - Japanese restaurants in the eastern suburbs. Food is still amazing though! You can't go wrong here. I've been coming here for 15 years and they are a model of consistency... Excellent food , Service and prices in nice clean restaurant. What sets them apart from a lot of places is they are a mostly eat in mid level establishment that does Chinese , Japanese ( great sushi) and some Thai dishes and do an excellent job with all of them. This is not your typical corner take out Chinese place... ( although they do takeout as well ). That's hard to find these days as most Asian restaurants seem to be corner take out or are very upscale pricey , this place finds that middle ground.
The food was great but we felt like they were going to close so we rushed out. Come to find out they didn't close for 3 more hours
Great peaceful aesthetic, food was prepared wonderfully. Worth checking out if in the mood for a quiet dine.
Oriental Star is one of the few restaurants I frequent. I mostly come for the all you can eat sushi which is excellent though it's a $22 hit per person. The sushi is high quality and other food I have had here is very nice. The only beef I have is almost everytime I come here there is children in the dining room doing homework or whatever and they love to stare at you while eating. I'm sure they mean nothing by it but it does make me feel awkward. If it wasn't for that I would give it 5*.
Best teriyaki chicken and worst egg rolls. This place has a great menu selection and almost everything we have ordered here has been great. I just wish the egg rolls were stuffed with more filling and less dough. A great eat in restaurant as well. One of the best gems in Fayetteville and a neighborhood favorite.
We frequently order carryout from this restaurant, and I can't remember one time in which the order had something wrong. The food there is consistently delicious - especially the steamed pork dumplings. We love the mango sauce with beef - slight hotness, very tender beef, lots of mango and vegetables. Service is very good. One less star is due to the atmosphere inside the restaurant - Oriental Star could use softer lighting. Fayetteville has three Asian restaurants within one squart mile, and Oriental Star is the best.
First time, went with friends who said the sushi was excellent. My personal view on that was that it is very good, but do not expect it to rival Kyoko or Ichiban. The nigiri pieces are average size and average price... but the all-you-can-eat deal for $22 is outstanding. I ordered at least $40 worth of sushi (based on their menu prices) and was very happy with the quality. They offer many of the same rolls others do, but do have some additional variety as well. Their spicy crunchy tuna rolls are the best I have had in a while around here. I will be going back soon.
My husband and I eat here maybe once every 3 months. He always gets the all you can eat and I order a roll or two or one of the entrees. The food is very good quality and the staff are pleasant enough. The interior is basic and clean. The selection on the all you can eat is more than adequate with a handful or rolls and lots of sushi choices (no sashimi). Nothing really fancy on the all you can eat buffet but solid sushi. Some better selections are on the ala carte menu. My only criticism about the place is I don't like having to buy soft drinks by the can. They really should have a soft drink dispenser so refills would be free. My husband drinks a lot of soda with his sushi lol
Good food, good service and violin practice in the back room. Update: The violin practice is gone but still the best Chinese food around. Updated Update: Still good food at reasonable prices. Great Sushi.
The food is always great and thank you for being open on mother's day. I have a tip for the drive thru. Ask color and make of car. And tell them to park in lot and you will call them to drive up to the window when food is ready.
I've been coming here for years. I've always found the food to be good. Once in a while they may mix up an order or leave something out of a takeout order..but these things are easily resolved when the food is consistently on point.
This is my friend's favorite sushi place and I can see why. I had the sashimi tuna and it was delicious and fresh. Their Udon noodle seafood soup was also delicious and had a decent mix of seafood. If you're looking for fresh, well made sushi, you won't go wrong here.
Well priced and good sushi. I often get their lunch specials because of its great value. They have a lot on their menu from Chinese food, Japanese cuisine, and sushi bar items. I’ve only had their sushi so far and can say I will definitely be ordering from them again. The inside of the restaurant is nice, I have yet to dine in! I’ve only gotten take out there and have been happy with my food every time.
This is a pretty good joint. I recommend this location highly for getting all you can eat sushi rolls. The quality is good. The location is pleasing to be in. The service is good as well. You can also have different food at this restaurant. I would recommend the all you can eat sushi for the value you get. The deal includes a soup or salad. There is typically no wait to be seated. You'll have to be patient with the sushi because they make it after you order. Have a great time! There are other sushi places, however this one has an all you can eat deal.
Sad, because sometimes this place is good. Ordered two dinners to go; no silverware, forgot both soups. Food was sub par. Overall disappointing
Decent take out. They do some things very well (pepper steak) and others just okay (Orange Chicken). I've had better, but I've also had much worse.
Everything was just ok. Nothing specificly bad, it's just not anything stellar.
Food was what you expected from an all around Asian restaurant in Syracuse. So it was fine, tasty. I got a Japanese soup and it was tasty, I wish it came with togarashi. But that might be to city of me to ask. Service..ehhh. the atmosphere was perfect, calm, quiet l, clean.
Unfortunately their dining room is rarely open. I don't want to pay restaurant prices to bring my food home. Going out to eat is part of the experience. When I used to eat there it was great. Food and service both 5 out of 5. But since the dining room is closed and I wasted a trip out gotta give it 3 stars only.
Very good pricing. food is fine, but def chinese American. If you want real chinese, that is in Liverpool. Hot and sour soup could have been a little spicier. Ordering was a bit odd. couldnt go inside and need to order by phone or the drive through. Menu is limited, but again fine. Will def go back and would give 3 1/2 stars if I could.
I read a few reviews. Maybe it's not just me. If I compare Oriental Star to a similar restaurant in Manhattan's Chinatown, Oriental Star might not compare well. The lights seem too bright. The place too empty. The lack of mystery and in intrigue so totally Fayetteville, the town that hasn't recovered from the Seventies. Fayetteville has yet to traffic calm Genesee Boulevard, letting everything from semis to tankers to blast on through. I know it's all carryout after Nine, but please don't make me feel I should have carried out rather than dined at table. Can't complain about the Szechuan Chicken, delicious and hot.
The phone was ringing non-stop for take-out and pick-up which as great! This was my first visit and l was excited but cautious. I had heard mediocre things from friends. I ordered General Tso Chicken. Unfortunately, cautious won out. When l got home l found that the chicken was very tough and l’m sure it was not fresh. The sauce was very thin. Also, the white rice was sushi rice, very sticky. and not easy to eat. I can’t imagine going back, unfortunately. But interestingly, there are an over-abundance of almost ecstatic reviews. ?? I wish the business the best, as well as the customer.
I am a pretty regular customer. For the first time, was disappointed in our meals. I googled to see if new owners had taken over! General Tso chickenwas Bland and watery. Sesame chicken was just ok. Had to add a lot of soy sauce. My Mother did enjoy her usual homey walnut shrimp however.
They charge you extra for all you can eat sushi if you don't eat all of it which is bs. I spent $21.95 on it but to be charged extra after i couldn't finish all of it.
Great sushi, but went with 4 people and the lady forced us to all give tips when just one person was gonna leave a big tip for the group.
I usually come here all the time with no problems, but tonight I got some sushi and got food poisoning. :( Pretty mad about it.
Not good. Mapu tofu was like soup. Garlic eggplant was mega greasy. Cold noodle came with hair. Eggroll was ok.
Went in for all you can eat sushi. The reataurant doesn’t look very inviting for starters. It was pretty good but the waitress made the entire experience awful! She was very rude slamming our plates down on the table and walking away while we were talking. It made me feel very uncomfortable! I’d rather go somewhere I feel welcome!
We were very disappointed after reading such good reviews. We ordered the all you can eat sushi, but we should have known better since everyone else was eating Chinese. You cannot get sashimi at all as part of the deal and their sushi is rather limited as are their rolls. This is not the reason for the poor review, but rather the quality of the sushi and rolls were poor. They lacked the subtle flavors of fresh fish and instead were lackluster and generic. Nothing smelled or tasted bad, but the flavor and appearance were not what I would have expected in fresh, good quality sushi. Go elsewhere for the Japanese!
We would have to honestly say that it was the worst chinese food we have ever had. small pieces of chicken in a lot dough for the sweet and sour. The pad thai was terrible, dry, tasteless and wierd chicken strips in it. The egg rolls were ok - cant go wrong with egg rolls. Sorry - just being honest.
I wish they were nice to new patrons. I placed my to-go order with a friendly girl and offered a presumptive tip. Food was delivered by sushi chef who didn't say a word. Hostess passed on way to a table order (they weren't busy) to take time to tell me my order was ready by pointing at the bag. I visit this area once a month. Can't recommend this establishment.
They charged more money for using a credit card, the order was not complete, they charged us for food that they did not give us, I do not recommend it
Used to love this place, but the last two times I went are the final times I will step foot there. I was given ROTTEN RAW salmon, and didn't notice until I had eaten two pieces of fish already.. Disgusting! Their customer service is great and they're nice but there is no excuse for serving rotten fish.
I went for a celebration with my girlfriend and was very hungry as I hadn't eaten all day. I ordered a chicken teryaki meal, an avocado peanut roll, and a shirmp tempura. My girlfriend ordered the general tso tofu/bean curd. After the miso and sushi, it seemed like the food would be fairly decent. I WAS DEAD WRONG My girlfriend had to spit out her tofu upon first bite and then began to tear up, as she was the one that suggested the place. I let her eat the last of my avocado rolls to calm her down and told her to order something else so she wouldn't be hungry. Then the server brought out my chicken and her tempura plate. A huge miss. I am not a super picky eater but even I had to spit out the chicken, as it was awful. It tasted like shellfish and left a weird taste in my throat. My girlfriend picked at her tempura but was still unsatisfied. I was amazed by the sizes of the plates and how a company could afford to make such large quantities of food with terrible taste. I was shocked, as the place had decent reviews but do not be fooled. The sushi was okay but $46 worth of ABSOLUTEL GARBAGE food left me quite unhappy.
Terrible service. Got there and waited almost 15 min before someone came and took our drink order. Then ordered appetizers , after that we ordered our food then a table of 12 came in and they ordered 15 no. After us and got there food immidetly and we waited over an hour and a half for our food. Will never go there again.
Had an extremely bizarre first (and last) experience here. My wife and I are new to the area and this place was recommended by locals. Upon arriving we enjoyed the traditional decor, it looked clean, and the two sushi chefs behind the bar seem to know what they were doing. Once we sat down and began to order things began to take a change. Our appetizers never came out nor did our dinner. After 45 minutes, we asked our waitress what was going on because we noticed that the two sushi chefs had left and instead a young boy of maybe 15 years of age at most who was previously doing homework at one of the tables had now taken their place. He was not dressed Appropriately to be handling food, and was clearly still wearing the clothes he wore to school. We chose to leave instead of waiting additional time for a child to cook our meal.
