Zeni-Ya is a Fresno hidden gem known for its chicken salad and teriyaki bowls. Customers rave about the quality, taste, and generous portions. Be aware that it's a cash-only establishment and service can be inconsistent.

Best Chicken salad ever. And i love their spicy been bowl. Quick and easy.
Excellent food and service. Bring cash as they don't accept cards and enjoy. It's worth it! My new favorite Japanese restaurant ever!
A place is must try. They make a wonderful chicken salad. I usually get # 9. Yummy.
This little restaurant is always full of people. The food is very good and is very reasonably priced. Indoor seating only. Very casual.
One of the best fast food Japanese restaurants in town family owned not a chain. Love the chicken salad also the beef rice bowels
Great food, it's great for a quick bite and won't hurt your wallet , my wife and I can share a full salad!
Fast service long as you miss the lunch crowds, get there before noon or after one o'clock. Love the chicken salad and the beef bowel
This place has the best chicken salad hands down. Even all those fancy restaurants' salad can't come close to Zeni-Ya's. The dressing is a vinaigrette type, but doesn't have the highly sour, acidic taste. It has a light sour and spicy kick to it with a hint of sweetness to sooth your tastebuds. The all-white meat chicken is always soft and tender topped with an irresistible crunch from the fried vermicelli (or udon?). The green is always cut and prepared fresh. I've yet to try other dishes because each time I enter Zeni-Ya, I could never resist getting the salad. It's highly fulfilling on its own. It's not an appetizer. Great customer service too btw. The owner is such a sweet lady and is passed down to her family members that works there.
Best teriyaki bowls and Chinese chicken salad in Fresno. It's cash only but so worth it. Family owned and better than Teriyaki Petes if you ask me. I'd make the drive any day. Check the hours. They don't stay open late.
Tasty affordable Japanese fast food. Everything I've had from here I'd eat again. The chicken salad is my go to, they don't have a spicy version on the menu but they will make it for you. **CASH ONLY**
Always fast, courteous service! I always get the Chinese chicken salad. Crazy good! Not to mention how clean they are! I usually go after work and they are cleaning the floor, walls and windows!! Way impressed!
They have this chicken salad that is great. I have a difficult time finding salads I actually enjoy and that are reasonably priced. But this place has it! They only take cash though, this can be a little inconvenient, but worth it.
I absolutely love getting takeout here. Chicken salad and tempura and cali rolls are all great items! But it's the employees here that make it a great experience overall. Thank you Zeni-Ya! :)
My wife kept asking me to go. I finally gave in and took her there for lunch. She was right, food was fantastic, service was really fast. Only bummer is they only accept cash or check, which I have carrying. I've been back once already.
Great food, great service. I've been eating here for years, and it's never disappointed my appetite. Good for the family.
I love Zeni-ya. The chicken salad dressing is the best! Their tempura veggies areally always fresh and delicious. I'll be a customer for life here
Everything is great there. Service is good and they are quick to get your food out to you. Chicken salad is great, spicy chicken salad.
My favorite menu item is the delicious Chinese Chicken Salad. But just a hint... If like almonds on your Chinese salads, take your in baggie with them. Enjoy!
Delicious food really fast and friendly service! Can't wait to try the salad that everyone ordered while we were there
I love this place. Has wonderful tempura and chicken salad. You will never go back to others places once you have tried this place. Yummy
This place has been here for decades and there's a reason why .. they are awesome. I love their beef sticks, tempura veggies and shrimp and their chicken salad.
Very tasty chicken salad here! The sauce is top and the filling too! The portion is huge)) Looking forward to coming here again!
Wow, so good. First time visit. Make sure to bring cash.

Some of the negative reviews are so petty and could have been worked out with a phone call to the manager lol Been coming here since 2004. Have prices gone up? Yes. That’s more political related and not by owners choice. Minimum wage, raw food costs, etc have sky rocketed. Anyways. I’ve only had one so so meal and that’s because I arrived 20 min late when I called the order in. I’ve eaten there several thousand times and food is always delicious. Always hot and perfect spice. Only thing I hate is they don’t take cards. They should put and ATM machine inside and make a fortune lol. But if you don’t have cash and you eat there frequently just give them your name and number and tell them you will get them on the next trip. Then pay them next time. They will keep a record for you. But if you’re a good human being I’m sure you won’t screw them over. Anyways this place rocks and I might be biased as I eat there 4-5 days a week but I know I can always expect a hot fresh meal when I do. Highly recommend them.
Wonderful food. The chicken salad is the best I have had any where. I also love their bowls. They are delicious. The service is good and the food is prepared quickly. Hardly have to wait at all unless it is noon time rush.
been coming here for about 2 years, honestly the best comfort food ever. their food is made with quality and love, which is not an overstatement. food is also made super fast and portioned very well. customer service could not be better- their staff is super friendly and they obviously care about their customers. whenever i’m having a difficult day their food always cheers me up. overall a very nice restaurant.
This place has been around forever and it’s the best. Hidden gem of Fresno. Cash only I believe
Their teriyaki bowls are the best! I always order the #0 spicy. I also love their chicken salad. The dressing is so delicious. Great food, great service, and affordable.
Been going there for 25+ years for their chicken salad. It's the best. Just wish they accepted cards.
This place has the best chicken salads period. Family owned, and everyone is nice. Place is clean and food is great.
This is amazing food. A plus is that it is macro friendly and has tasty food!! Would 100% recommend. The customer service is amazing. They are so friendly and helpful. Me and my sister ordered food to go but couldn’t wait to eat it. So we sat down and started eating and the gal offered us water because we didn’t have any!! So thoughtful!! The 1a bowls are so good and are easy on sensitive stomachs! The cucumber salad is also amazing!!
This and Imperial Garden are my two favorite restaurants for Chinese salad in Fresno. Perfecto.

Food was good however not the best. Staff was friendly .
Great rice bowls and decently priced. Fast service. I like the teriyaki chicken and the spicy beef bowls. Recommend this place!
Great chicken salad and maki roll!! Only wished, that if you only wanted the 1/2 order of chicken salad that it was more than just the 75cents difference of the full order
Great food! Love the chicken rice bowls! No credit or debit cards. CASH ONLY.

.Have been eating there for years....but the chicken in the last three chicken salads has been seriously chewy. Sushi rolls were sloppy, rice wasn't quite done.
It was alright. The portions should be larger for the prices. The ramen was okay, but again, a little bit too small. The combination plate came with a great selection of items; however, each item was served in a very small amount. High wait time for a small order of food. The service fas fine, ice water was refreshing, but too expensive for that amount if food. Quality is important, but for "fas food", a quicker wait time and larger portions is desired.
Really carried by their perfect chicken salad w/ rice underneath. Best salad in existence. Everything else i’ve tried has been ok.
⭐️⭐️ (2 out of 5 stars) I’ve been coming to this place for many years, and my order has almost always been the same. I truly wanted to continue supporting a local business, but after today, I think this will be my last visit. The food itself has been consistent, which is why I kept returning. Unfortunately, the overall experience has steadily declined. The restaurant is cash only—no cards, no Apple Pay, no alternatives—which is increasingly inconvenient. More concerning is that orders often don’t appear to be rung up, and receipts are not provided. As a customer, that doesn’t inspire confidence or professionalism. Customer service was also very disappointing. During a busy lunch hour, orders were handed out incorrectly, and when I tried to confirm whether the meal placed in front of me was mine, the staff member did not make eye contact, did not turn around, and responded without acknowledgment. A simple confirmation or “thank you” would have gone a long way. After years of loyalty, it’s unfortunate to leave feeling unappreciated and dismissed. I hope management takes a closer look at how customers are treated, especially those who have supported the business for so long.
Make sure to bring cash. Cards are not accepted. The rice and sauce on point the chicken not so much dry and tough. Chicken bowl 10.50 it seem small but it will fill you up.
Spicy Chicken Teriyaki Bowl just ok. I've definitely have had better teriyaki bowls else where. The chicken is as dry and bland as it looks. Should've gone for something else is all I could say. I hear the other menu items are better but definitely wouldn't recommend this item

I have never reviewed a restaurant before and am so torn on this one I felt compelled to share this. As stated, the chicken salad, especially over rice, is really good, I've been coming here for years. I have a friend that comes from LA and this is the only place he will have lunch while in town. That's the good news. Here's the reasons I can't give this a higher rating...over the years they have considerably reduced the amount of chicken in each salad, raised the prices considerably and still only take cash. While they make a darn good salad it's frustrating that they choose to by really tight with basic things. These are small things but make a difference, the forks are really whimpy (they bend trying to stab the lettuce), the staff isn't very polite, they don't give refills on drinks, and condiments and napkins need to be asked for as everything is behind the counter. It's too bad they don't see the value in catering to the customer because while they are busy, they could be far busier and have higher ratings!
This review is for the teriyaki bowl only, as thats the only thing I ordered. Was recommended this place by a coworker or two. They said it was great. The only caveat was that they are a cash only establishment. Finally was in the area and hungry at the same time and decided to give it a go. Its in a strip mall on a nice side of town. The inside has plenty of seating if you'd like to eat inside. I opted for take out as it was a busy day. I ordered the combo teriyaki bowl of the "0". It was $11 for the bowl which isn't horrible for a meal in town but if you're looking to get a lot of meat, this is not the bowl for you. The chicken on the bowl was just shredded chicken breast. It was dry. . . really dry. It had a slight hint of teriyaki flavor on it. It tasted like it was boiled then shredded. Maybe some people like that. I'm not one of them. It was like eating shredded cardboard. The beef was a little bit better. It had more teriyaki flavor. It appeared as though it had been on a grill at some point due to grill marks on it. But it was really thinly sliced and tasty. The rice was cooked well. Teriyaki on the side was just standard teriyaki. It filled the hole. But nothing more. I wouldn't actively seek to go there again. And would not suggest it to anyone else.

If you're just looking for a decent sushi roll, DON'T come to this place. They only have a california roll (which i ended up getting) and it seems like they bought it pre-made from the supermarket. Hard, chewy rice with barely any filling inside and some old looking ginger to cleanse your pallette after that bad experience.
Chicken salad is good but the employees do not greet you with a smile. The employees and owners always seems like they are having a bad day.

The teriyaki sauce was runny and thin, the teriyaki bowl had shredded, tasteless chicken over white rice. Would never go again. Also they only take cash or check, not a card so I had to dig in my purse for my last penny.
Great place but horrible service. Feels like you’re ordering from the Seinfeld Soup guy. And hours don’t meen anything. Posted 6:30 - but don’t show up after 6 they will be shut down. And cash only - IRS 🧐

We got there about five after 6 PM and they close at 6:30. There was other people eating in the dining room. We ordered our salads and the guy said do you mind taking it to go? We’re gonna close in 25 minutes. The salads were soggy, to much dressing . I felt rushed and pressured to leave ! I will never go back there again. The salads were not fresh and there was way too much dressing on the salads. I used to go there all the time because of their salads. They used to put the dressing on the side. It was like this was the end of the day salad mix. Very disappointed.I got sick to my stomach immediately after eating it. I want my money back!
