The first time I stopped here was in August of 2016, if I am not mistaken. I had three weeks off and was driving to Las Vegas to visit my parents before going on a two-week road trip to New Mexico! I had never been to Death Valley, so the night before, while staying in Lone Pine, I looked at my map and decided to "take a shortcut" through Death Valley instead of driving down 395 towards Hwy 58 and Barstow. The next morning, I took 136 to 190 and arrived at the Death Valley National Park sign on 190 early in the morning. I stopped at every scenic area, such as Father Crowley Overlook, along the way, and went on a hike when I could. By the time I got to Badwater Saloon, it was past noon and hot! I was tired and thirsty. Badwater Saloon was an unexpected oasis in the middle of nowhere in the desert! It’s important to note that this saloon is located within the historic Stovepipe Wells Village, which began in 1906 as a collection of tents serving travelers between mining towns. Its name comes from the stovepipe used to mark the only known water source on the Cross-Valley road when the sand obscured the spot. It truly has been a critical stop for nearly a century. I had no idea what to expect when I walked in, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found: a large, beautifully set-up restaurant/bar inside with rustic, cowboy-themed decor that transports you back in time. I was running a bit late, so I decided to sit at the bar, have a beer to quench my thirst, and soak it all in. The bartender was great, and we talked about what to see and do in the area. They even offer their own house Death Valley brew, a perfect tribute to the vast, surrounding desert. I finished my two beers and hit the road again, knowing I would come back here. Over the last nine years, I have been to Badwater Saloon many times. I even brought family members with me who also enjoyed the experience. If you are visiting, just remember that this is still an outpost in the middle of the desert and not some fancy restaurant in New York or LA with top-notch everything! Be patient, relax, drink a cold beer, and imagine how the guys on horseback crossed this desert over a hundred and fifty years ago! These very routes were once crucial to the Borax mining operations that built the region, hauled by the famous twenty-mule teams. Over the years, as their chefs changed, I have had different food experiences here. A few were awesome, and some were just OK, but the cold beer and the surroundings are always the same; super awesome!

Great food and atmosphere. Violet and Paul were accommodating and friendly, even on a busy weekend. The view of the surrounding desert and mountains is unmatched, perfect for a sunset dinner and beer!

This was a great stop for a cold one and a bite to eat after a long day of seeing the sights in Death Valley. Way less crowded than Furnace Creek and the prices were a lot more reasonable too. My wife had their Piled High Turkey Sandwich and I had their Toll Road Veggie Pasta (something I normally wouldn't order at a place like this) and we both found our meals to be surprisingly good. Of course, we also imbibed on some of their whiskey and an IPA on tap, something they had a good selection of too. This is definitely a place that we'll be visiting again.

Delicious food - stumbled across this place by chance. Brilliant interiors - love the cowboy theme here. The bison burger and wings were incredible!!! Nice easy food, great service and friendly, quick staff!

Great restaurant that welcomes you to Death Valley. Classic menu with burgers and fries, as expected for a place that is more than anything the entrance/exit to the national park. Great atmosphere that shows how many movies have been done in this valley.

So, the only food in many many miles could be average. This is not average. The bar is awesome. Great DV touches and our server was awesome. Best thing is that they have Moose Drool. An excellent beer not to be passed. The burgers are big. Bring a empty stomach. Highly recommend.

Big portions. Good and fresh salad in the middle of desert. Delicious and flavorful pasta. Juicy grilled chicken. Quiet atmosphere.

Honestly a great place with great service. Stopped here twice on our tour, once they didn’t have power so they had Power Out Special - basic ham or turkey sandwich with a soda and chips for $10 cash. Hit the spot between hikes. Second time they had power and the food was great. Burgers were solid, chicken wrap was filling, and the turkey sandwich was legit. Highly recommend, great for families.

Plain and simple. This is what you need in a day visiting Death Valley. Menú is short but It is difficult to choose wrongly. A few burgers and several salads with some kind of desserts. We tried 2 different burgers and both of them were super. Service was kind and made our lunch easy. Prince seemed below average in my experience. Place is very convenient as you have a gas station in front of It. I'd say Air conditioning was not extremely cool as we had found in other places before so we appreciated It.

Overall, great time here! It was a little pricey for what we got but what do you expect for even getting food and a drink in the middle of a place like Death Valley?? Haha Regardless of what others were saying, I enjoyed their Memorial Day Special and the Death Valley Root Beer. Great pit stop! And big shout out to manager Dustin who was manning the BBQ pit in 100+ temps. 🏆

I came here with a friend in order to take a break from the heat and grab some food during our time in Death Valley. Let me tell you the food here is really good. I got the salmon and my friend got the arugula salad. Both plates were fresh and very tasty. My salmon was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The decor and ambiance was lovely, and our waitress Debi really made our already great experience even better. She was kind, funny, and made sure we were well taken care of. I will surely come back again when I visit the park again in the future.

Awesome place. We are at the Oasis Inn (30 mn East) and their food is not great. Here, at Bad water Saloon, the hamburger is actually juicy and savorous. If you are at the Oasis (ranch or Inn), we would strongly suggest to try Badwater Saloon

Really solid meal at Badwater Saloon. The food took a bit longer than expected, but the staff kept drinks filled and made sure we were comfortable while we waited. Everything we ordered was delicious. The pizza was well cooked with great flavor, the elk chili was rich and hearty, and the vegetarian pasta (we added chicken) was perfectly done and very satisfying. You can tell care goes into the food here. Worth the wait for quality dishes, and we’d happily stop in again.

We ate here several times during our Death Valley stay. The menu is very limited, but what they do have is good - a cut above fast food for sure. The prices are reasonable for the quantity and quality of food and the fact that competition is limited. We placed our order and then ate outside which wasn't as bad as it sounds. There's a covered dining area. Plenty of parking. Restrooms available.

I wish I could say I had a great experience here because it has a welcoming atmosphere & a very rustic vibe to it but the service was subpar at best. I popped in for a cold beer & some lunch & received both but for being literally the only person in the place the bartender was MIA most of the time & was about as lively as the rocks I was climbing early when she did appear. Perhaps I caught her on an off day but I’ll definitely stop back again because the food was great, the beers were fairly priced & this place has the only pool table in the area.

Pretty good for how remote it is. I ordered the pizza they had on the chalkboard at the door, it's not on the menu yet. It was ok. The crust was kinda hard and not very good but it was cheesy and the pepperoni was good quality. The sodas were a relief from the heat outside and the place has a nice western saloon feel to it. Staff was friendly and gave good service.

Nice people and solid food. Chill saloon vibe. It connects to Toll Road restaurant. We went at lunchtime on a Wednesday so not very busy, but I imagine it's fun at night.

Dinner at the restaurant at Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley was a great surprise. The service was friendly, the menu was fun and creative, and the food was prepared extremely well—everything we had was delicious. Add in the amazing desert setting and it’s hard to imagine a better place to relax after a day of exploring. What’s not to like? We’ll definitely be back.

Paul could benefit from additional training in hospitality, or at the very least, putting in more effort. The service was extremely slow, which is understandable given the location in Death Valley, but there was essentially no attempt at creating a welcoming atmosphere or showing basic hospitality. The food was also below average. We waited nearly an hour for pizza that arrived with a burnt crust and hardened cheese. Pretty expensive too, which would be acceptable if the effort matched the price.

Seemed to be just bartender and one single waitress on this Tuesday night that had maybe 6 tables going at one time plus 2-4 ppl at the bar. It was seat-yourself and a long wait before bartender ambled over to curtly take my order. Burger and fries took almost 30 min to come out and I wasn’t checked on once other than MIA waitress passing through asking if I had ordered after 5+ min after I did. Ended up going to bar myself to get a 2nd beer after empty glass sat dry for awhile, noting that bartender was apparently just straightening out register drawer (? — still hour-plus to close). He proceeds to take my used pint glass (that I courteously brought up to the bar) to pour a 2nd different beer into the same glass. Wow. Cheeseburger and fries were mid, and the lingering fishy taste for the fries would likely be objectionable to some (they have fish n chips on their menu too — surprise). I’d feel singled out but I saw other ppl getting disappointing engagement too. Sign of the times in 2025 for visiting US State Parks? I dunno.

The worst customer service our family has ever experienced. We were really looking forward to eating ribeye steaks and salmon. There was only one server. He was extremely rude and got flustered when the restaurant was filling up during peak lunchtime. We sat down before 5 or 6 other tables and he deliberately skipped over us when our party was ready to start our order. He took orders for 3 other groups including a table of 10 that came in much later. We promptly walked out.
