Absolutely phenomenal experience at Pizzeria Uno in downtown Chicago! We came as a party of two and tried the small BBQ Chicken deep-dish — and it was unforgettable. The crust was golden and slightly buttery, the cheese perfectly melted, and that smoky BBQ flavor hit just right in every bite. You can genuinely taste why this place is the birthplace of Chicago-style pizza. The staff was friendly, the service felt well-coordinated even during the evening rush, and the restaurant’s classic Chicago vibe made the whole meal feel authentic and special. One pro tip: definitely preorder if you’re visiting during weekends or nights. The wait times can get long, and this pizza deserves to be enjoyed without the stress of waiting. Once seated, though, everything flows smoothly and is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend for locals and visitors alike — this is Chicago deep dish done right!
This is the pizzeria where deep-dish pizza was invented. Naturally, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit it. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the pizza was delicious and filling. We took most of it back to the hotel with us. The staff was polite and efficient. We will definitely visit it again as soon as we are in Chicago.
Our school had a field trip today. 12/8/2025. The service, food and professionalism was spectacular!! Our students had a very good time!! They made their own pizza. The table was set up when we arrived.Small circular pizza crust, cups of cheese, pepperoni and sauce, and a small drink. They listened to the waitress and followed her instructions. The students were given gloves to put all of the ingredients on the crust. Once they collected all the pizzas to bake, they were provided crayons to color their place mats. Overall they had a very good time! Thanks to all the staff and managers... you guys are awesome!!
I went there a month back with my friends when i was visiting Chicago! Loved the pizza, we went for the vegetarian pizza, but it was so crunchy and flavorful! Loved the Deep Dish Style pizza that Chicago is famous for! Will definitely go there again.
Visiting Chicago and wanted deep dish pizza. We happened upon this restaurant as we walked to our architect tour. Didn't realize this was the home for deep dish pizza!! Service was great! Pizza was great (even though I had to figure out how to eat it! 😂 ). Atmosphere was quiet the day we were there. It it quaint, warm, and feels like the local bar Cheers. Highly recommend!
So yummy and delicious! Great service, our waiter was helpful and prompt. A must if you're in Chicago!
Cooking class Saturday morning to learn about Uno's and how to make their deep dish pizza including dough and sauce recipe. Lupi was a great instuctor. She has a long history working at the restaurant, shared personal stories, gave clear directions with a cute accent that made you feel like mama was running the course. Ten of us enjoyed each others company for the 2+ hour cooking class. Worth the price with a generous, well deserved tip.
I had to start somewhere, and I'm glad it was at a staple to the city. PIZZERIA UNO is the original restaurant producer and creator of the deep dish pizza. That is, one of the most infamous food items in America started right here! This is a dive bar experience, but the deep dish pizza is a life changing experience. You can't find anything like this anywhere else! Thick red sauces, flavorful garlic bread, heavy cheeses, and red pepper flakes...this is it! The ultimate pizza experience in a mid-western city. The bread is everything...end of discussion. Decent wine list, amazing experience.
It wasn’t my first dip dish in Chicago, but this one was absolutely outstanding. They invented the thing so they definitely know how to prepare one. Was a bit skeptical at first after reading other people opinions, but wanted to try it myself. Chose the house special without green peppers as I’m not a big fan of them and it was delicious. Definitely recommend
We wanted to try the deep dish pizza, what is better than try it at Uno pizzeria. The Uno pizza was very good and delicious. Service on our table was okay, but saw other sections with fabiolus service. The vibes in the restaurant is very good. if you are in Chicago and wants to try their deep dish pizza, Uno is the right place. Note: Pizza take between 35 - 45 minutes
I wanted to come to the original for my first time having Chicago deep-dish pizza, and I was not disappointed! The pizza was even better than I had imagined, with thick layers of cheese, sausage, and sauce on top. We got a medium for 2 hungry people and had leftovers for later! Each pizza is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait for 30-40 minutes; it’s worth the wait!
Great pizza, have a little patience, it's about thirty minutes for your pizza to cook (35-40 minutes total). There may be a little line during busy times. They will have you order your pizza before putting you on the wait list for a table. I recommend ordering individual size, but if you can all agree, then a larger is fine. The Numero uno and the 4 cheese & pesto are the most popular and they are excellent. This is the birth place of deep dish pizza and this is has that vibe. DeMarcos was an excellent server, great recommendations, and was very helpful.
Small and cozy, and busy. You may have to wait but it’s so worth it. Best seat is a tiny table by the window to people watch. The pizza is thick, saucy, and full of flavor. It’s not an instant pizza: you’ll have to wait for its freshness to come to you in about 20-30 minutes, which is told to you by your staff. Exterior is charming and authentic. Lovely food, lovely place.

Quality deep dish at a reasonable price, service is very get you in, get you fed, get you out (which is not at all a bad thing). Tight fit and a bit dimly lit, but the ambiance is nice and relaxed

If you love deep-dish pizza, check out this place. We wanted to try it, based on a friend's recommendation, but we have settled on the fact that we do not like deep-dish pizza. The appetizer (see picture) had too much Parmesan, overshadowing all the other flavors, so it was okay. The pizza did not stick with me or have any flavors that popped out that left me amazed. Everything was just good.
We ordered their famous pizza I ordered one with pepperoni and italian beef and my wife ordered the plain one The portions are very big ! I didnt finish mine So be aware when you order Also the pizza take roughly 45 min to be prepared For our taste the pizzas wasn’t great, too much tomato, too much sauces, but Its just the personal taste, since the ingredients were obviously well prepared. On top of all that, the staff were very friendly and also warned us that we took too much food (but we didnt listen to them) If u like those flavors, u should try it, but for me it wasn’t that good, but again, its my personal taste, the food itself didnt have any issues
I thought the sausage pizza used to have chunks of sausage peeking out from under the sea of tomato's, but maybe I'm thinking somewhere else. I just remember the sausage being more prevalent. Never the less, it's a very good pizza and the crust was award worthy! We went in after 9pm. Waitress was good and on her game, glasses never ran dry! Atmosphere was a bit lacking....down the back, felt a bit like eating in a garage!
Not gonna lie. This was super touristy. Loved the vibe of the place. No wait. Got seated right away. The services was a little cold at first but warmed after serving the food. Don’t take it person. Still tipped $30 for a 2 person meal. As for the pizza. All I could taste was the ingredients.
Had the deep Numero Uno dish pizza! I’d give it about a 6/10 – could’ve been cooked a little longer for my taste. That said, our server was super nice and very observant, which made the experience enjoyable. The environment was inviting and fun, and there was no wait, which was a huge plus. Overall, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try!
The first time I visited Pizzeria Uno, it was on a Saturday and we had a great time—the service was amazing and the deep-dish pizza was outstanding. This time, though, the service really brought the experience down. We were asked to move seats, which wasn’t a big deal at all, but after that it felt like they wanted us to order quickly and leave, even though it was only about 1 p.m. It wasn’t like we were the only ones there either—the place was still busy, plenty of people were also ordering deep-dish, and while there was room to move around, it definitely wasn’t empty. We also weren’t sitting around wasting time: it took about 30 minutes for the deep-dish to come out, which is normal, and only about 15 minutes to eat it. Still, while we were on our last bite, the server asked if we were ready to pay, and before we could even finish she took our plates away. To make things worse, when the tip screen came up, she stared so hard it made the moment uncomfortable. I had planned to leave around a 15% tip (about $10), but because of the way the service felt, I ended up only leaving $2. Overall, I’d still give Pizzeria Uno 4 stars, because the deep-dish pizza is hands down one of the best around and the food was excellent—the service just didn’t match the quality of the meal. I will definitely be coming back again, and hopefully the service is better next time so I can give the 5 stars this place truly deserves.
Nostalgia, great old school pizzeria, but pizza was only ok. Our server was excellent, we got a table quickly. We went because it was first. Easy walk and easy to find. Next time in Chicago we will find a different option though. Dough was thick but almost a bit dry at the edges. It was cooked through and toppings were good. Pizza sauce a bit bland for my taste. Worth a visit but wouldn't be my first choice.
As an East Coaster, I have tried NY deep-dish pizza before, but it's all wrong there. This is what authentic Chicago deep-dish is supposed to taste like! The crust was perfect, and the flavors were incredible ❤️ We tried the Pizzeria Uno Original and the Chicago Italian, and both were outstanding. The servers have some sass, but it's all part of the experience. I highly recommend getting an individual pizza for the perfect personal meal.
great deep dish pizza, I'd come back when I'm back in Chicago. the service was okay, and really liked how cozy and moody it was inside

Excitement filled within me, as I was excited to try this place. I was hoping it would be worth it. A sign on the building stated PIZZERIA UNO®️ was a HISTORIC LANDMARK. It also stated it was the BIRTHPLACE OF THE ORIGINAL DEEP DISH PIZZA - 1943 - Ike Sewell invented Deep Dish Pizza in this building in 1943, which began a Deep Dish pizza revolution. My significant other and I walked inside and were told we could sit down anywhere at the bar. I was given a menu immediately. I looked at it to see what was offered. From the COCKTAILS section, we got a POMEGRANATE MARGARITA. It was Pomegranate splashed into a tequila con-noisseur’s favorite, Cuervo Silver, mixed with the sweetness of Cointreau and the tartness of lime. The server asked us if we wanted to have it rimmed with salt and we accepted. It was 12.99. From the DEEP DISH SPECIALTY PIZZAS section, I ordered an Ind. 14.99 NUMERO UNO®️. It stated Our first choice for the most delectable pizza! Extra cheese, an abundance of fresh sausage, just the right amount of pepperoni and fresh mushrooms, onions and green peppers. The HOT & COLD DRINKS section stated ALL SOFT DRINKS AND ICED TEAS…FREE CHICAGO REFILL. The SOFT DRINKS were 3.89. It stated We are proud to serve Pepsi®️ products. I went with a Diet Pepsi. The POMEGRANATE MARGARITA was fantastic. Every ingredient played perfectly off of each other. The NUMERO UNO®️ looked small upon arrival, but it was packed with ingredients and flavors, which made up for the size of it. I enjoyed every bite of it. The Diet Pepsi was good. The FREE CHICAGO REFILL was just as good. The service was alright. I expected it to be better. Overall, it was a decent spot to try. I wouldn’t be in a rush to go again. Date of visit: 05/06/25

I was really excited to try out the original location (I enjoyed Uno's in NYC as a kid before they all closed down). Unfortunately, my waitress (Niecy), forgot to put my order in and I had to wait over an hour for a personal pizza (the smallest size, that was ready in 15 minutes). The pizza was good but felt rushed. What a shame.

Got the Numero Uno personal size. Very bad. The dough was undercooked and the toppings on top were literally raw. I had to look for the cheese in this. The whole thing was just put together half hazardly. My stomach started hurting after one slice. Had to get the rest packed and bake it in my house again. Third picture is from Pequod’s Pizza. Look at the char on the crust and the beautiful fresh cheese. Save your time and go to Pequod’s instead.
Overall, I was pretty disappointed with my experience at Uno’s. Given that it’s known as the original deep-dish pizza in Chicago, I went in with high expectations. The restaurant itself was very cramped. The two of us were seated at an extremely small table with little to no room, which made the experience uncomfortable from the start. The waiter also had a poor attitude and provided subpar service. It took a while for him to even come to our table, but once he did, we placed our order quickly. After waiting about 20 minutes, we noticed that everyone around us—who had ordered after we did—had already received their food. When we asked our waiter for an ETA, he made a very condescending remark, stating that pizza takes 45 minutes to bake. This was frustrating, especially since a small pizza typically takes closer to 20–25 minutes. About five minutes later, our pizza finally arrived. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the experience. The crust was so thick and burnt that I could barely cut through it, and there was not nearly enough cheese—especially disappointing considering we paid extra for additional cheese. Overall, the experience and food quality fell far short of expectations. For a restaurant with such a reputation, this visit was a letdown.
Unfortunately, our experience at Uno was really disappointing. It was my first time trying deep dish pizza, and none of us at the table enjoyed it, especially the version served here, which felt even heavier and less flavorful than expected. We also shared a Caesar salad to start, and it was honestly awful: bland, barely dressed, and tasted like it came straight out of a bag. To top it off, the outdoor seating was extremely noisy, right by a busy road, which made it hard to enjoy the meal. Overall, not a pleasant dining experience. Wouldn’t recommend.
