Hands down, some of the best beef I’ve ever had. I’ve been to Japan and tried Wagyu in a high end restaurant, and the flavour doesn’t come close to what I experienced at the Spanish butcher. We had the 1kg Galician Porterhouse, it was AMAZING. We will definitely be returning at some point when we visit Glasgow or Edinburgh again.
Best steak in long time. A lovely restaurant in a nice intimate setting. Courteous and attentive staff, quality decor, great setting. Food was out quickly and of high quality. We had chateaubriand, Scottish sirloin and gallacia fillet. All were cooked well and sides and starters with generous portions. Semi open kitchen which looked immaculate, along with rest of restaurant. One minor point is there was one diner with nut allergy as per booking which was not addressed by staff. We are careful, have pen ready and know nothing is guaranteed with any kitchen, but its strange for it not to be acknowledged. Will go back again, as lovely steak restaurants are a rare thing.
Great restaurant, so lovely inside, and the staff were awesome! They helped us choose, suggested some great dishes, and were super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, my steak was perfect. We'd totally recommend it. Forgot to take a pic of my main, it was that good we just dived in!
A highly recommended restaurant in Glasgow City Centre. Food is outstanding, melts in the mouth and the best steak I’ve ever eaten. Gabriel was the perfect waiter, very professional, explained the menu with a deep knowledge of every course. The Chefs I can’t praise enough! Food was outstanding. The restaurant surroundings were spot on giving a very pleasant atmosphere. Ideal for that very special occasion or you just want to treat yourself. Thank you we will be back.
Had such a great night at The Spanish Butcher, on Monday! The tomahawk steak was cooked to absolute perfection — so tender and full of flavour. The mac and cheese was honestly next level, could’ve eaten a whole bowl of it on its own! 😂 Huge shoutout to Louisa who looked after us — her service was spot on from start to finish, super friendly and made us feel really welcome. Can’t wait to go back already!
Phenomenal meal. Pimientos de Pedron are a favorite and they are great here. Of course the star of the meal was the chateaubriand. As others have said, it’s amazing. Just a hint of smoke on the char, cooked to perfection inside. Cauliflower and especially the mushrooms rounded out a terrific meal. Decent wine selection. - we went with a Napa Cab. Service was super-friendly and on-point. Just an all around terrific experience.
Beautiful restaraunt, service from the staff was incredible. Explained the menu in depth and gave recommendations based on what we were looking for and generally just a very good and positive attitude which I feel can make the atmosphere of a place. Food absolutely couldn’t fault at all it was insane. It is pricey and there is a 12.5% service charge added which is quite steep however this experience was worth every penny. One of the best places I’ve ever visited and steak was cooked to perfection. You defo do need to book to get in here 😊
We had been recommended to try the Spanish Butcher and had a lovely experience. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Able to make recommendations and ensure all customers were treated with respect. The menu has a number of intetesting meals which made it difficult to choose from as all seemed like good options. We shared olives, sourdough and gambas pil pil which were soooooo tasty. Then we had the Galician Chauteabriand and veg. It was cooked to perfection - almost rare but tender as. The peppercorn sauce was a great match and all plates went back empty. Dessert was an almond tart and a gin/tonic sorbet. Again both very nice - sorbet particularly refreshing. Only thing we thought that could be better was a wee tasting platter of say the tart, cheesecake and sticky toffee? Would really set the meal off. Overall a fabulous experience and would recommend to anyone and we will revist soon.
Arguably the best steakhouse in glasgow alongside Tiffany's! Came here a couple of years ago & absolutely loved it. Miles ahead of Miller & carter. So many different steak options, mines was marbled and cooked to perfection. Would highly reccomend to anybody thats looking for a high end steak!
Me and my wife had an amazing experience at The Spanish Butcher these weekends. Jumped in as walkins to get stuffed. The atmosphere was elegant and welcoming, and the food was absolutely outstanding. A big shout out to Illias (hope I spelled it correctly) for his service. He was attentive, professional, and genuinely friendly, modest but with great knowledge of the meat menu and wine selection. Illias made us feel truly welcome and ensured everything was perfect throughout the evening. Highly recommended this place!
Absolute top class service from the moment we walked in the door. The restaurant itself is stunning with a really cosy atmosphere, our server was so lovely and very attentive. The menu was fantastic with plenty to chose from, would definitely recommend the fillet steak with truffle chips👌 😋 and the monkfish was a big hit too. Worth every penny . We will definitely be back
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant tonight and were very, very satisfied. We ordered steak, fish, and escalope — all dishes were exceptionally tasty and high quality. Compared to many local places in the area, the food and especially the wine quality were outstanding. What really made our visit special was the service. Our waitress Louise was absolutely fantastic — knowledgeable about the menu, warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive. She gave great recommendations and made us feel very welcome. 🥰😘 We left with very positive impressions and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!🤌
Update: Sapanish butcher lunch again: This is one of our favourite restuarants in the town. Like all our previous visits everything , food , service and ambiance was perfect. This was our first time visiting in a while due to the pandemic. This was a birthday celebration lunch and it was perfect. As with all our previous visits the food and service was perfect. The informal yet sophisticated atmosphere is excellent. Our server was excellent. She gladly explained all the dishes and provided us with recommendations. This is the reason it is so hard to get a reservation at weekends. We will definetely be returning , hopefully very soon.
The food was amazing and the servers were really upbeat and well informed!!!
Amazing food and we really enjoyed the ambiance. The beautiful Holly was our host and she was a gem, so kind and attentive. My next Glasgow visit, I’ll definitely be coming back here!
Very good restaurant. My steak was amazing. Source and mushrooms tasty as well. Good desert. Cute waitress gave me good recommendations. High quality products. Nice cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is barely noticeable from the street. Menu is not overwhelming.
Went here for my Birthday lunch with my girlfriend and the staff were so sweet! The food was delicious, the prime rub has SO much flavour! The cocktails were also delicious and very pretty! Really well priced as well, definitely recommend 👌🏼
We visited this fabulous restaurant and was absolutely thrilled! We traveled around Europe & the UK for a month and this meal was in our two favourite’s of our entire trip. The Steak was incredible & cooked perfectly, the corn was delicious! Couldn’t fault anything - cocktails were fantastic! I have tried to recreate those beautiful flavours in the corn, but can’t nail……. Need another trip over just to have that again! The staff were very lovely & accommodating and explained the dishes in detail - you can tell they are proud of the quality of their meat. Definitely recommend!
Restaurant has a lovely interior. The food was delicious and the steak perfectly cooked. The smoked salmon starter was a bit bland and presentation was odd. The panacotta was really good though. The service was quite disappointing in comparison to the food, and not very attentive. Overall a good option for a special occasion.
Definitely a more high-end steakhouse, it was quite delicious but it comes at a cost. The vibe is very nice and romantic with the dim lighting, great for a date or a special occasion. What really made the experience worth it is the kind, patient attentive and knowledgeable staff, who took the time to explain all the different types of steaks, that our party had no understanding of.
OMG one of the best meals I have ever had!! Crouquettes to start, delicious and flavorsum and hit the spot whilst waiting on the main event with my husband. We then also shared the main, which was the porterhouse steak sharer. It was absolutely outstanding and cooked to perfection!! Truffle fries were delicious and cooked just right and had another side of garlic mushrooms and 2 sauces which were the peppercorn sauce and garlic butter. Food was defo 10/10 and our server, Andy, was amazing and very informative. Definitely get yourselves here peeps 😉😄
Chateaubriand Sunday roast with all the trimmings, served in a lovely calm environment, with a good atmosphere and some lovely wines to complement the food. Every element, every ingredient was perfectly cooked...
Can't speak highly enough about this place. One of the best restaurants I have been to in the world. The welcome was fantastic and all bartenders took the time to chat while we had a drink at the bar before dinner. The food was sensational; perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Wait staff were excellent, very knowledgeable about the menu and always close on hand for all your needs. There is a great atmosphere in the restaurant with great acoustics; despite the number of diners there is only a murmur of chatter and low background music can still be heard.
This was one of the best meals I have had in a long while. The food was amazing. We ordered cured meats, olives and bread that was just out the oven amazing so fresh and tasty. Than for our main course we had fillet steak , sea bass and truffle machengo cheese chips.Apart from presentation being on top was all freshly made to order. The dessert we ordered was Almond tart with ice cream the ice cream was beautiful. The staff was really professional, very prepared and attentive. All in all I would highly recommend it. Definitely worth a visit.
Absolutely my favourite place for food in Glasgow. Had a lovely meal last night, scallops to start, chateaubriand with fries and rocket and manchego and lemon sorbet for desert. Simply can’t fault it, incredible quality of meat, cooked beautifully with attentive but not fussy service in a relaxed atmosphere. Not cheap but I don’t think I’ve ever had a better meal.
Me and my wife were visiting Scotland and while here we decided to visit a steak house. We decided on the Spanish Butcher. It was the name that got us. Either way, we arrived 20 mins before our reservations and the hosted at the counter complimented our accents ( being from Tennessee) and from there the evening just got better. The decor was wonderful, the staff were very knowledgeable of the menu. Our waiter gave us his advise and he was not wrong, our waiter was there to pay special attention to our needs as if we were the only people there even though he was extremely busy. Needless to say the food was outstanding, the staff were amazing, and the scenery was beautiful. Thank you Spanish Butcher staff for making our 2nd night in Scotland the best.
We had the beef & marrow sliders to starts and shared the prime rib, Mac & cheese, truffle fries, greens, peppercorn sauce & the roja verde. All were so delicious, no complaints with the food or service. Stand out items: sliders & prime rib steak. Would defo go back :)
Been here a few times now would say it’s my favourite restaurant in Glasgow never had a bad experience. Went on Friday got few starters to share & the Spanish Fillet steak everything was amazing. Seen a few bad reviews about not acknowledging birthdays and stuff being over priced these people are full a nonsense. Great restaurant & great service
Went to the Spanish Butcher as a treat with my dad as we've both wanted to try it for years. The service was amazing, second to none. For our meal we had starters - beef and marrow sliders which were really good and the beef carpaccio which my dad enjoyed but felt it was missing something - maybe a dressing. We then had the chateaubriand with potatoes and truffle fries. The sauces were garlic butter and peppercorn. This is where we were a little underwhelmed. We ordered the steak Medium - and it came out a variation of all types of cooked. It tasted amazing but texture wise it was difficult to eat in areas. The truffle fries were ok - I'd not get them again. The potatoes though... those were absolutely amazing. I could have ate two lots of those alone. I didn't like the Garlic butter sauce and my dad said the peppercorn sauce was salty. We got a side of sourdough rolls which were so good, but I'd have preferred butter rather than oil, it was still tasty though. Hands down the best thing for me was the Catalan Brulee, it was beautiful and I'd happily go back just for that. Saying that I would love to go back in general and next time I would just go for the individual steak option. The venue is lovely and centrally located. Took a star away because the restaurant is so dark that it was a struggle to read the menu for my dad. There's not been much thought given for people with sight issues it seemed.
The food is great, although quite pricey! The steak was absolutely fantastic the depth of flavour of the Glacian beef is to be commended. Really spectacular. Service was impeccable, especially at a very busy Saturday evening service. Perfect for date night or treat. Factor in the 12.5% tip added to bill!
Steak was really nice, excellent cant complain about that. However the sides were very basic, we had sliced potato in paprika and truffle chips. Paprika potatos were ok but not very many of them. They were baked so very dry. The truffle chips were very disappointing, very very basic and bot well cooked with zero truffle flavour. And very pricey for what you recieve receive.
We had a really nice Sunday roast with 3 courses here. We found the food to be tasty and meat cooked very nicely, unfortunately our roast potatoes were rock solid! However, they apologised, and got us some sautéed smoky potatoes which tasted lovely. And gave us our desserts for free. Beef marrow sliders for starter were great & churros were yum too! We had a nice waitress, she was very polite and attentive. Would like to have seen more alcohol free beers on the menu. All in all, we were impressed. Only other thing, I found it to be quite dark, and I get the mood lightening but I like to be able to see my food a little bit more whilst eating. Also having 45 minutes between starter and main was too long, never waited that long between my starter and main before.
We had a really good meal here. The atmosphere and service are top quality and the wine was lovely. It seems like a hub for business dinners and dates. The food didn't blow me away, but everything was executed well and the steak had a nice char and flavour. The prices are quite high due to the expensive cuts. You shouldn't be disappointed.
Last night’s dinner at The Spanish Butcher. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was really nice. Drinks were good too. Food-wise, it was a bit hit and miss. Steak was nice, greens were good, but the chips were poor — very pale and lacking flavour — and the mac & cheese was overcooked. Overall, it was okay, but for the price I expected outstanding, and it just didn’t quite deliver.
We visited the Spanish Butcher for a birthday meal. It was a 215pm booking and the restaurant was pretty empty. The staff were ok, but setting the standards low but when we got seated the chap was keen to walk away and we just about got drinks from him. He did come back with the drinks pretty quick but rushed off right away. Starters we got prawns and then scallops. Both dishes were nice. For mains we got the fish and I got gelecian fillet Med rare. The fish was nice and best part no bones. The steak was pretty decent for the price. It was seared very very nice. As it was my birthday meal the restaurant did give a card. Nice touch. If your reading this far your see why I dropped 2 stars on food. For the price the prawns was a good size but the scallops were really small. I should drop 2 stars we had a stone in the lentils and typically I ended up crunching down and chipped a filling. I did show the staff they said sorry and gave us a free dessert. Not 2 but one. Drinks was a reason I added a food star as they were really reasonable in price. Not a typical rip off with restaurants these days I’m not sure I would return. But would say this place is worth a shot
We had booked the Spanish Butcher to celebrate our son’s 21st birthday, reviews were good , recommendations were also very good so we were all looking forward to it . The moment we walked in the door the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was just what we were looking for , everything was set for a wonderful meal . I went for the scallop starter and my wife and son chose the grilled octopus, we all agreed that the starters were nothing special, I’ve had much nicer scallops at home and the octopus was pretty bland . For the mains I wanted to push the boat out and seeing as my son and I both like medium /rare we went for the Galician porterhouse ( £150 ) , and my wife went for the Galician fillet (43 ) , we also had some Sauted potatoes , bone marrow , cheese truffle fries and a couple of sauces , 1 peppercorn and 1 garlic butter. For a pudding I had the sticky toffee pudding and my son had the cheesecake and my wife had a Gin sorbet. The biggest disappointment by far was the steak , it was tough as old boots and almost impossible to cut through, my wife never enjoyed hers either. The peppercorn sauce was nice but the garlic butter we never even touched it was basically a pot of oil ! . I know I should have complained on the night but my son would have hated that and it would have made the night even worse ! My wife and I shared a bottle of wine (£52) and my son had 1 beer and the total came to £374.06 . I have absolutely no problem paying for a nice meal , the fact that they add an automatic service charge of 12.5% is disgusting (£41.56 ). To summarise, The starter was supposed to be king scallops , it may have been 1 scallop cut into quarters but it certainly wasn’t king scallops !! , the octopus was like rubber , the mains , the porterhouse steak was as tender as rubber and full of solid fat . The deserts , I’ve had better microwave sticky toffee pudding , my wife and son enjoyed there’s . I can’t recommend the Spannish Butcher’s food but I do highly rate the staff and the atmosphere. I will not be back
We were really excited to try this for my 40th Birthday. Short ribs were ok, sliders were ok…. My main was cooked so tough it would bounce if you threw it. A sneaky service charge of 12.5 tip should be optional not expected or compulsory. Would not recommend this place
We have previously loved this place but our recent experience put us off. They fitted us in which was great but they shouldn't have. Everything took an eternity. Starters were fab but our £80 chateaubriand was over cooked. When we complained we got a massively overcooked explanation about light and perspective. It was medium well, not rare. It tasted great, bit that doesnt cut it as that price point. We'll be looking for somewhere else. If you're busy, say no, rather than give sub quality service.
Very disappointing experience at Spanish Butcher. I’ve visited several times and usually it’s excellent, with top-notch service and delicious food. My penultimate visit was particularly outstanding. However, my most recent experience fell short. It took at least half an hour for our order to be taken, the rib starter was mostly fat whereas last time it was all meat, and there was confusion with the steaks - one person ordered medium rare, others medium, but the medium ended up served as medium rare and had to be sent back. The pork was delicious, as were most of the sides, but the garlic butter was far too oily and fatty, and the churro dessert was very average, tasting as though it had been cooked long before and then left out or reheated, leaving it overly crunchy. Unfortunately, our bill included a full bottle of wine rather than the carafe we ordered. On top of this, they added a 12.5% service charge - not a standard tip in Scotland. The service did not merit any tip, especially given that our share of the bill was well over £100 each. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. For the prices they charge, I would expect consistently top-level service and food. It’s unclear why it was subpar this time, as it wasn’t an especially busy night.
Not a great experience. Prime Wednesday - great idea, but not well executed. All feels a bit mean for the money. The staff were very friendly but not attentive, and I suspect they have had minimal training. The steak was presented very poorly - see my photo. It looked like it had been slapped onto the plate. Other tables who ordered the same were much better presented than this, so I know they could have done better. That shows a lack of quality control at the pass. Ordered some extras in the end because we would have left hungry if we hadn't. It's a shame, it means I won't be back.
It's taken me year to get round to writing this review. I went there on my 50th and the staff couldn't care less. No one expects a birthday bubbly or cake on the house anymore. Times are hard and it's not easy for restaurants to keep on top of rising costs . But it doesn't cost a oenny to acknowledge a milestone birthday. My husband and my sister even mentioned it as we sat down and even then, not a peep. So, no matter how nice the food was, it's the service that you remember and you go back for. And the service was sadly, poor.
