Had my birthday celebration here last week. Customer service was great and food was good. Had a small issue with an order but Michelle was quick to get back to us to rectify the issue. Atmosphere was lovely and warm. Very satisfied overall with the professionalism of the team, presentation, environment and honesty of the team
I ate at Kelp on 22 October 2025, after reading the reviews - and wasn't disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly and offered good advice on the menu options. I ordered the hand dived Barra scallops, Orkney crab doughnut and pickled samphire slaw. As a former scallop diver I feel confident in being able make an assessment on the standard of the scallops, which were of the very highest quality. The seasoning was perfect, bringing out the subtle flavour of the beautifully fresh scallops. The crab doughnut was sensational. Again the seasoning and flavours were absolutely on point with the emulsion adding a different layer of flavour. The flavours in slaw were really clean and punchy and the perfect compliment to the crab doughnut. I have eaten seafood from some of the best places in the North of Scotland and I can honestly say that the food at Kelp was the finest seafood I have ever had. It was a joy to eat at Kelp, where the kitchen staff are confident in using bold flavours and the dishes are seasoned to perfection. The whole experience was fantastic and I can't wait to return.
Kelp in Glasgow delivers an exquisite dining experience that effortlessly blends elegance, sophistication, and warmth. From the moment we entered, we were struck by the serene ambiance and refined maritime-inspired décor—an impeccable nod to the restaurant’s seafood artistry. Each dish we sampled was a testament to culinary mastery. We enjoyed an impressive selection of courses and beverages, all arriving with impeccable timing and presentation. The flavors were delicate yet expressive, showcasing the very best of Scotland’s coastal produce. The langoustine was a standout, perfectly cooked to achieve a rich succulence and refined depth of flavor. Every element on the plate demonstrated precision, balance, and respect for the ingredients. Equally noteworthy was the service. Our server, Max, epitomized professionalism and warmth in equal measure. His intuitive attention to detail, engaging approach with the group, and thoughtful guidance through the menu elevated the entire experience. His ability to accommodate dietary requirements with ease reflected a level of hospitality befitting fine dining at its best. Kelp offers a rare combination of culinary artistry, polished service, and genuine hospitality. It is a destination where every detail, from presentation to atmosphere, is curated to perfection. A visit to Kale is not merely a meal—it is a celebration of exceptional taste and thoughtful craftsmanship.
Second time visiting, out standing again. Plates are recommended to be shared and come out as they are made. We had 5 dishes, 1 side and 1 dessert to share.
Kelp is a jewel in the Glasgow food scene crown and a must visit for any food lover looking for creative food executed to the highest standards . Service was mature confident and attentive from the minute we arrived our host was chatty informative and always on hand excellent service. The wine list also deserves a mention this has been perfectly crafted and balanced in choice by what are obviously culinary professionals who leave you spoilt for choice . The Spanish Verdejo we chose was a delightful , perfectly chilled and full of ripe citrus fruit a perfect partner for what was to come . This small plates seafood concept offers a generous list of seafood dishes each a taste sensation in its own right beautifully garnished and presented to a fine dining level . ( there is also duck chicken and vegetarian dishes ) . Sourdough with whipped butter is an essential addition to mop up the delicious sauces and dressings you will not want to waste a drop. Most memorable were the scallops plump succulent and perfectly seared , but equal in deliciousness were the , squid , mackerel , sea bream , lightly smoked trout that melted in the mouth . A lot of thought passion and planning has gone into these dishes , great raw materials wonderful flavours and textures beautiful on the eye perfectly executed , thank you chef great job keep doing what you do great things will come .
My second venture into Glasgow's seafood scene led me to Kelp, and once again, the city delivered an absolutely amazing culinary experience! The restaurant is wonderfully relaxed yet sophisticated, making it the perfect spot for enjoyable conversations without feeling rushed or crowded. The staff at Kelp deserve a special mention. Their service was nothing short of excellent – always accompanied by a genuine smile and a professional demeanor that made us feel incredibly welcome and well-cared for throughout the evening. The lady mentioned she's a new staff, I think she really did a great job. Regarding the food, the Squid Tostada was an absolute highlight; bursting with fresh flavours and perfectly prepared. Equally impressive were the Shetland Mussels, plump, juicy, and swimming in a delightful broth. I'm not a seafood lover, but I think both dishes were truly memorable! Moreover, this was also my second time dining at a restaurant proudly bearing the AA Rosette award, and Kelp has truly solidified my confidence in its significance. The quality here was outstanding, and I now feel much more assured and excited to explore other establishments recognised with this prestigious award.
Superb, fresh, tasty…. Delicious seafood some really interesting flavours, highly recommend the oysters (spicy seaweed sauce was superb) also the coley was fantastic.
Had a great meal here. It’s just a 5-minute walk from where I live. The seafood is very fresh, especially the oysters. The dishes are delicious though the portions are on the smaller side and a bit pricey. You'll probably need to order at least 3 to 4 plates for 1 person.
Kelp in Glasgow? Proper gem! Chef serves up Scotland's history on a plate – classic flavours twisted into fresh takes. Presentation's quirky, almost sneaky, but it spoils you rotten. Go try it!
Sustainable Scottish seafood delivered at its finest. This place was wall to wall fantastic. The food: From the oysters covered with homemade hot sauce, rhubarb and shallots as well as lemon and pepper to the splendid monkfish, nothing is spared to make the flavours of these dishes pop in your mouth. Not only is your mouth treated but your eyes feel stuffed by the excellent presentation of every plate. I especially loved the design of the sea bream brought out on a vibrant plate lit up by the exotic ingredients. To top it all off the basque cheesecake to close was literally the cherry on the cake. Earl gray apricot, homemade cream and perfectly baked cake ye cannae whack it!! I may have got some of the ingredients wrong but regardless it all went down a treat. Service: Service was excellent, sadly the beer tap was off that evening but I was still able to enjoy a lovely st mungo amber ale. The wine list was extensive as well (though untouched by me!) yet I’m sure with the smiling and attentive waiters that it would have been delivered and poured with care. Really excellent place, and would highly recommend to those who want high quality seafood in Glasgow
This is a Scottish seafood restaurant, with small plates to share. I'd say about 2-3 plates per person hits the right spot. Since there were 4 of us, we decided to try all their market menu plates and 2 of their deserts. We expected not to like a few, but we ended up loving all of them. The food really is on point here. The cocktails were very good as well. The service was professional. The prices were good and it was refreshing to not see any ridiculous service charges - a tip well earned. Overall a great experience and we'll definitely be back.
Excellent gourmet seafood with a taste of Glasgow touch. The mussels were excellent and so were the other dishes. Do give this place a try. Prior table reservations highly recommended.
Love! Great food, as in truly great cooking and unique flavours. Also, delicious range of cocktails expertly made. The decor is perfectly suited to the vibe and staff all great. Market menu of two courses and a side for £25 is ludicrously good value for the standard of food you’re eating here. Though we did also get a few oysters to start and added dessert too because it was that good. As well as the food we had cocktails and a few wines so we ended up as a group of six spending around £70 each (including tip) which I think is amazing value but you could stop in for a quicker lunch and less booze and still have a brilliant experience.
Loved this place. The food was delicious. We had 2 plates and a side each & it was more than enough. Lovely staff. Highly recommend
We just had a lovely dinner here tonight. The food was excellent 10/10. Very fresh seafood, so delicious. First of all, the oysters were so good, we tried with different sauce. The crab pancake was so delicate comes with amazing sauce. Langoustines were the best, perfect. Clams and mussels are my favorite and they were the best I have ever had in Scotland. The atmosphere is great, nice place for family dinner/couples. Customer service was amazing, we were only waiting for a few minutes for the clams we ordered but it came very quickly and she told us it’s on the house, which we didn’t expect. We would still happily pay for this quality food and service. It’s our first time here but we would surely come back again very soon.
Fantastic tapas at one of the best seafood restaurants near the Royal Opera House. The scallops were cooked to perfection. The crab donut was moist and nice sauce by the side. The little clams were good too. Coley was good too. The sourdough bread was filling too. Service was fantastic too!
We tried the market menu for lunch. The place was empty when we went, so the service was very fast. The employees were very knowledgeable about the menu and were very helpful when ordering. We experienced incredible flavors and the quality of the ingredients was quite high, and the prices were quite reasonable within the lunch menu. However, the dishes were a bit salty. If you have a salt sensitivity, definitely ask the employees. I definitely recommend it to everyone. Thank you.🙏🏻
Great place with great service. So welcoming and warm. The food is lovely. We had a feast for 6 of us from their market menu pre theatre. Well priced wine list too. Recommended.
Visiting this seafood gem was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped in, the warm, inviting ambiance set the tone for a memorable dining experience. The array of small plates offered an adventure for the taste buds, showcasing the freshest seafood delicacies. The chef's artistry was apparent in every dish, each a masterpiece of flavors and textures. The standout was undoubtedly the exquisitely prepared crab doughnut , which left an indelible mark on my palate. The staff's attentiveness and extensive knowledge of the menu only added to the exceptional service. I highly recommend this spot for anyone seeking a culinary journey through the bounties of the sea, presented with finesse and creativity.
One of my favourite restaurants in Glasgow! All dishes were made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and tasted absolutely divine! In combination with delicious cocktails and attentive staff, we had a tremendous evening. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
This restraunt is a gem of a place and is exceptional in every way. Firstly the team there welcomed us to the restraunt with a smile and a friendly chat. We had such amazing food and we had no complaints about anything. The team were always smiling and making sure our drinks were kept flowing. We'll done Kelp we will most definitely be back.
Friendly server and food was amazing. Smoked trout, scallops magnificent!
Kelp is THE hidden gem of Glasgow. The food is absolutely spectacular, inventive and made with so much love and care. We tried a lot of the dishes, and being seafood forward, all of it was cooked beautifully. The fish was beautiful, flaky and juicy. The cockles fantastic. And dessert was the perfect way to end this meal. The star of the show was the crab donut, which was an umami bomb. Cannot be further impressed by this place. Service was extremely hospitable too. They could be well on their way to a Michelin star or Bib gourmand very soon!
Lovely decor with Christmas crackers and Christmas music that blended into the background (which is nice as some places blare it). Food was delicious and came out at good intervals. Found staff very friendly and helpful. They didn’t badger us at the table which was nice. Was a lovely birthday dinner and would recommend giving it a go. Mussels and scallops were our #1 picks.
Absolutely top quality seafood. Service amazing and a great wine selection. I’ve eaten at most of the good seafood restaurants in Glasgow and in my opinion,Kelp is currently the best.
The seafood here is absolutely outstanding—each plate is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Prices are reasonable for the quality, making it great value. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, offering excellent recommendations that made our experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!
An innovative menu , nicely executed, we ordered 3 set Market menu , all dishes were of good portion, although the Tobermory smoked Trout was a bit too spicy for us , the quality of it is good . It’s a pity that the Scallops today was different from the menu , the chicken broth finish was a bit too salty . The Coley was a bit tough but the Pea Veloute & mint Fricassee elevated the flavour of the fish to another level! All & all a very pleasant & enjoyable dining experience, looking forward to other seasonal menus!
Amazing dining experience! Far and away our favorite meal in Scotland. Service was phenomenal & every plate, perfection. The mussels was an inspired delight. For a mussel enthusiast like myself it was a real treat. The only note is that the acoustics of the space made the room a bit noisy, but it was a packed Friday night so it may not be an issue on other nights.
This was our first visit to Kelp and we thoroughly enjoyed the menu. I'm a fan of the sharing plate idea and this was ideal. A couple of Green Goddess Martinis started our meal, accompanying the delicious whipped smoked scallop roe dip with homemade crisps. A plate of scallops with hazelnut butter followed plus a spicy but terribly addictive crab doughnut and a perfect fillet of coley surrounded by a superb shellfish sauce and a tangle of sea vegetables. We only added a side of crispy Koffmann fries meaning we just had room for dessert- a fabulous banana parfait and a slice of burnt Basque cheesecake. Service was great, friendly and helpful and the bill was under £90 for the two of us which I thought was excellent value given the quality of produce and the standard of cooking. Definitely worth a return visit!
I don’t review very often, but sometimes you just have to. I was in Glasgow for one night on business, after lots of googling I found Kelp and I was excited to go there. I am a massive seafood lover, and usually hyper critical of dishes served. Kelp didn’t disappoint at all, the food was amazing! I had mussels and langoustine and they were just sublime. And to top the amazing food off, I had the rhubarb sorbet with custard and meringue. The dessert was up there with the best I’ve ever had, I’d probably drive to Glasgow from Lancashire just to have it again.
We went for lunch. Restaurant was busy, the food was fantastic. All the dishes tasted fresh with great quality seafood. The dessert was great too.
Everything is perfect ! The staff are helpful and welcoming. The oysters are a bit small , they are fresh and tasty ! The scallops cooked well and taste good ! The coley has crispy skin and meaty , we lovw every dish here
Incredible seafood restaurant. The menu has a great selection. It’s definitely pricey but a special treat that’s worth it. The crab doughnut was our highlight, never had anything like it before. Would recommend to seafood lovers. We weren’t as impressed with the desserts, but as I don’t usually get dessert; I didn’t take that into account for the rating.
Wow. Just wow. Service, decor and food was amazing. Great choices - the halibut and crab doughnut were our favourite dishes but everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and super flavourful. Can't wait to come back and try more!
One word umami a fireworks display of epic proportion coming at you each plate unique but full on pleasure for your taste buds The food at Kelp is going to rock your taste buds, brought to you by the family team at Ardnamurchan Scottish Restaurant & Bar their hospitality. I have to start by saying I eat out for the experience, I want challenged, stimulation of my culinary taste buds. I don't want bland over priced home home so often served up by the perlifercation of chain pubs and restaurants. If you want fantastic seafood served in a friendly casual dining surroundings look no further. Our waiter tonight was great he understood his roll well being both attentive and knowledgeable but never overbearing. The prices whilst not what you might call cheap, it is really great value. It should noted given it is first class sea food cooked and served in great inviroment it can't and should not be cheap. Our hostess was kept busy meeting and greeting with a lovely smile whilst running about assisting with orders all very efficient and professional. The explosion of taste sensation will keep you coming back. Stand out dishes for us were the Hebradian Squid which arrived first and the Ghia Halibut both out standing. We also had very fresh langoustines, Crab donut in the most delicious sauce. Sides we ordered fries and samphire slaw, fries were the only item not worthy of note not bad but just fries. Our deserts also hit some real tasty notes including a very trendy Sea-buckthorn tart auwsome. Another nice touch not being gouged for an lovely espresso only £2.20 All in all 9.5 out of 10 for very good value and extremely tasty meal.
Spectacular food and honestly deserving of a Bib Gourmand or Michelin 🌟. Exquisite play on textures, colours and flavours without downplaying the main highlight of each dish - the seafood. Extremely well executed and kudos to the team. Will definitely recommend to my friends and family abroad.
Atmosphere is pretty chill. Food was great: The coley was soft tender and the sauce that went with it was intensely flavourful. Mussels were great as well and quite a sizeable portion. The oysters were fresh and creamy. Service was one of the better ones we had in Glasgow. I asked my partner, "So, 5 stars?" He replied, "For sure. Easily."
We went to Kelp for lunch and we loved it! The menu was creative and original while based on locally sourced ingredients. Everything we ate was delicious, we also liked the atmosphere and the staff. I would gladly come back for dinner next time 😊
They only source seafood from all over Scotland, and as someone who adores proper seafood, this was really "a catch"! I came in as a backpacker and initially the food felt like a fine-dining vibe (market plates / small plates), but the taste was SUPERB. You pay for what you get! 2 small plates with a side was enough for me. Ended with a cheesecake (equally yummy) for £25 total.
This was one of the best meals we had on our six weeks of traveling in France, Belgium, England and Scotland. We had hand dived Barra scallops, Shetland mussels, sand Barra monkfish, and sand carrots. Top quality ingredients and innovative cooking. Knowledgeable and relaxed service. A treat.
Went here on a rainy miserable sunday to cheer up......and it worked. Nice restaurant with very pleasant, efficient staff and service. We had the market menu of 3 courses. A good choice of dishes - all our courses were excellent and beautifully presented, including grilled sardine, mussels, Shetland coley and the desserts were so good. Nice choice of wines and not overpriced. Would like to go back and try some of the dishes on the a la carte menu next time. And maybe the oysters too
Absolutely stunning food. Beautifully executed and very good quality. Amazing flavours. If you love seafood you will love this restaurant
Wonderfully delicious and innovative cuisine incorporating novel flavours and ingredients. Menu is heavily seafood biased which was perfect for us. Service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was excellent with sympathetic lighting and acoustics. We read a review of this restaurant and it exceeded all that we read and expected.
Kelp was wonderful. 5pm on a wet Saturday and it was full with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Service was great. We had a Bloody Kelp cocktail each which was delicious then oysters, an extremely generous portion of mussels, scallops, samphire coleslaw and a gorgeous blackened cabbage dish. Finished with black cherry and mascarpone ice cream an a expresso martini which were also amazing. Can't wait to go back, i'd order everything again it was really good, thanks Kelp!
Had the torched mackerel, bream crudo, coley, cured trout and samphire salad. Each dish was of quality with fresh flavours. Well thought out dishes. Would’ve gone back if we weren’t only here for a day. Top restaurant with a sustainable focus and a happy team.
I had dined at kelp before and had to visit again on my next trip to Glasgow. I was glad I booked a table as when I arrived on a Thursday evening the restaurant was packed! Again I went for the famous crab donut followed by sardine ravioli as recommended by the amazing waitress ,both started with pickled mussels. When I am lucky enough to travel to Glasgow I always pay a visit to kelp and it's always the highlight of my trip.
Had lunch here. Ordered off both menus. Food prepare pretty quickly. Staff friendly. Was looking forward to the Crab doughnut but little let down. Not enough crab filling and chilli sauce was over powering. Shetland coley was nice and scallops was good too.
Food tastes quite good but the portions are small. The stone bass crudo and shelland coley are good
I was a little let down by my experience here. I went with friends on a reservation. I was there 15 minutes early and was asked to sit outside somewhere until it was closer to the time. I was hoping to get a drink and am usually offered something in similar situations at other restaurants, but this didn't happen. My friend came and was asked to wait inside by the same staff member. He came outside and took care of other tables nearby, but didn't mention to me that my friend had arrived. When the reservation time came up he hadn't said anything so I went back inside which is when I saw my friend was there. I sat with her and the staff member continued to pass by us as the reservation time also passed. After about 10 minutes, he gestured to us and told us that the £1 oyster deal was limited because they had more people than expected that day. We said it was fine. A different server came up to us to get our drink order and advised us that the oyster count was limited even further than originally mentioned. I asked for more clarification and mentioned being told a different number. She simply said he was the manager so probably knew better, but never confirmed. For convenience sake we were told we couldn't choose our oyster topping and they would just bring them out already topped. That was a little odd and a bit of a shame because only one out of the three was nicely done. The flavours were interesting, but completely overwhelmed the oyster and it would have been preferred that we got to top them ourselves, if at all. The rest of the dishes were also interesting, but the flavours and textures were all over the place. Unfortunately don't think I'll be trying again, but really grateful there is a place in Glasgow offering £1 oysters. Just make sure to go at 5 pm so you can fully enjoy the experience.
This maybe just wasn't for us. I took my family here to celebrate my mums birthday as she loves seafood/fish, however we left not loving it. Service was very attentive and some of the dishes, like the nduja mussels were fab but the rest were a bit too creative for our liking and did not fill you up for the price. We were there during the festive menu so perhaps we would have preferred their normal menu more.
