Today we had lunch at Almost Home Restaurant & Swizzle Stick Bar, and it was delicious! We’ve done dinner here, and it was PHENOMENAL, and their lunch offerings are on that same level. We had the Garlic Cheese Curds and Bleu Cheese Buffalo Pub Chips for apps, and both were very tasty. For my lunch, I ordered the Almost Home Favorite meal with their Tearoom Original Chicken Salad on croissant, Roasted Red Pepper soup of the day, and Garden Salad. The soup and salad was very good, and that chicken salad was ah-may-zing!!! We will be back soon and often! 😍
Another great experience at the Almost Home restaurant! Never disappointed. This was a great experience suggested by a local. Service was awesome, food was delicious and the atmosphere was quaint. Bailey our server took great care of us and made the experience wonderful. She kept saying she was going to take care of "us". She made us feel right at "home".
The servers were very kind and welcoming. The meals are well balanced and very tasty. I ordered the Chicken Artichoke Cheese Melt that came with two veggies sides. The family ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos for an appetizer, which was wonderful. And the dessert was very rich. If you weren't full from the meal, the dessert will top you off! 😋 Suggestion: order a slice of the Strawberry pizza pie.
I honestly can't say enough good things!!! We had Abagayle as our waitress, and she is such an absolute GEM!!! The food was excellent - the dessert was exceptional! Not only that, but because of Abagayle, we had a breeze handling all of our kids, too! She brought them a BOX of crayons and pages to color - plus a cookie for the 3 older ones so they wouldn't eat MY dessert LOL!! AND, she changed the TV station to Bubble Guppies for our 1 year old! (That was probably not normal, but no one else was in the area we were in so it worked and we didn't even ask her to do it - she just did it 😍) My only issue is that this is a one-of-a-kind restaurant, and we don't have one at home , so it looks like we'll be coming back to Indiana!!!
Almost Home is a real treat in downtown Greencastle, worth the hassle of navigating construction to get a parking spot. I was on a trip to visit a friend and on a recommendation met for lunch there. Unbelievably, during the midst of days of heat and humidity, last Tuesday, proved to be worthy of a seat al fresco under the shade of a tree, my oreferred mode of dining. We both enjoyed the chicken salad served on a lettuce leaf, ripe fresh fruit, and muffin plate. The lunch was very good and the wait staff, esp our waitress, was exceptional! This restaurant offers a variety of entrees, very good food, and service! Well done, Almost Home.
This place is truly one of a kind! The staff was welcoming and kind, and more than happy to accommodate for anything we needed. They have a full bar on one side, a full kitchen, and a “grab and go section” for those in a rush. They even have pre-made desserts for people like me with a sweet tooth! Not only that, but they offer delivery also! Lots of the local businesses will order lunch and an Almost Home Employee will bring it over so there is never a wait. Just another way that Almost Home is cementing it’s place here in our community. There truly is no place like (almost) home.
Almost Home in Green Castle is top-notch. Stopped in for lunch and had some fish tacos as an appetizer, followed by their soup of the day - Ham and Cheddar. All food was full of flavor and not overdone! Great Aura inside with calming music in the background and quiet enough to still have conversations amongst your table. If I'm ever back in the area this will be the spot to hit.
If you ever find yourself in Green Castle Indiana, do yourself a favor and stop by almost home. Local coffee, amazing food, and great food. It's the trifecta! My wife and I shared the cheese curds, she had a soup and half salad, while I ordered the almost home burger. All the food was amazing. We will definitely be back!
Great restaurant on the Greencastle town square. Friendly staff and excellent food. Very reasonable prices for fairly high-end cuisine. I was disappointed that they didn't offer a filet or a strip, but they do have a sirloin and a ribeye as well as salmon and lots of other choices. Overall this is an excellent place to visit.
Food was excellent. The strawberry pie was amazing! Service was great and the atmosphere unique, interesting , nothing corporate or “cookie cutter” here , a new favorite. Check their hours before venturing out.
Coconut cake is to die for! Great cafe on the square located in the downstairs of an original building. Love the atmosphere with authentic ceilings, fixtures and architecture. The food is great, can’t resist the dessert selection!
Great location! The venue and food was amazing. Will be returning! Don’t forget to try the dessert!
We recently hosted my daughter’s bridal shower at Almost Home. The atmosphere, the wait staff and the food was amazing. From the fresh flowers as you walk in, to the comfortable atmosphere inside, it was perfect. I heard several of our guest compliment our brunch selection and the mimosas were the best!! Thanks Almost Home for making the day so special for my daughter and our guest
Everytime we come to Almost Home it is amazing. The atmosphere is elegant and has the feel of a very high class restaurant. The food is delicious and the servers are very nice. I ordered something i normally wouldnt the mile high meat loaf and it was amazing.
Good food, wonderful service. I'm not sure I'd take small children here but for teens and adults who can quietly sit and have a meal, this is a great place I happened upon when I found myself near the Greencastle Square looking for lunch.
My husband was excited to show me his old DePauw and Green Castle stomping grounds. He remembered this restaurant from years ago, and we made a reservation to go on a Friday night, unsure if it would be the same. We walked in and there was live jazz music. The spinach artichoke dip was exactly how he remembered, and some of the best I've ever had. He got the chicken marsala and I got a salad with grilled chicken, berries, pecans, dried cranberries and gorgonzola cheese. They were both amazing, and the lettuce/greens in the salad were incredibly fresh. We split a piece of cake for dessert that was delicious (they had an old fashioned dessert tray model, so cute). The drinks were great, staff were like. Seriously a perfect meal!
Amazing place! Great food and beer! Locally owned and they treat you like family!
Great place and very affordable! Food is delicious and lite! Great atmosphere as well.
Visited while in area. Excellent service and food, wirh low prices. Breaded pork tenderloin, onion rings and pie all VERY good.
Wonderful dining experience, great food, delicious flavors and our waitress was amazing. Highly recommend!
Wonderful place! Cute, well done interior. The food was fantastic! Unusual items to try. Very nice!
What a wonderful place we stumbled across. Was on our way to visit family in Illinois. Had to make a stop to drop off a part at another business and they recommended Almost Home for lunch. Food and service were great, atmosphere was a nice bit of upscale, but still felt very comfortable. I had a salad and the loaded potato soup. Both of which were good. Love the old style/historical coming through. It was so good, we stopped a second time on the way back. That time I had the Bourbon Burger, and my wife had the cheese manicotti. Both were great. Neither time we had room for dessert. Did I mention the service? She was courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt. Will have to stop in again! (chocolates at the front counter are good too)
Excellent place for a business casual lunch or an intimate dinner. Food is excellent. Had the ribeye and the steak was perfect.
I really like everything about this place. Can't go wrong. Crab cakes are excellent as is the Prime Rib but its only a special offering, wish it was on the menu regularly. Little pricey but worth it.
We tried this place out on a whim after having a fun day at the park with the kids. The staff was super friendly, and I really loved the decor, a little homey and country without being garish or cheap. The menu was interesting and we found something for everyone to enjoy. The food was fantastic. We even topped it off with a slice of lemon cake that was super light and delicious. Would definitely go back, very peaceful and calm atmosphere, my kinda vibe.
I was so throughly impressed with this restaurant! From the moment we walked in we were well taken care of. The food was amazing, the waitress was perfect and the hostess was so lovely! I bought a coffee cup just so I can remember this place! Will go everytime I'm in greencastle!
We're not often in Greencastle, but there we were, and we found Almost Home. The service was wonderful, the food was fantastic, the prices were neither remarkably high nor low. It was a good find!
We had a great time at Thursday night trivia at Swizzle Stick Bar inside Almost Home Restaurant in Greencastle! Visiting from Nashville, we reserved a table for a family outing and had a blast. The atmosphere was fun, the staff was fantastic, and the trivia was the perfect mix of challenging and entertaining. We even placed 3rd! The breaded tenderloin sandwich—a Hoosier favorite—was also delicious. Highly recommend for a fun night out!
I have always loved this place. A super nice restaurant with great, great food, appetizers and drinks. The desserts are out of this 🌎! The owner of this establishment has done an outstanding job over the years of meshing a great dining experience, with a classy but welcoming & warning atmosphere. There is a bar connected to the restaurant called the Swizzle Stick that has live music on weekends. They sell local goods that people from the area work hard on. As I said, the owner puts her soul and heart into this place. Small town feel, with an upscale menu and great people both working and eating here. All you see is smiles when you're there. If it would allow me... I'd give them 10 stars. Gail.... You are the best!
My husband and I had lunch here and was wonderful experience. We had tenderloin and a cheeseburger. Delicious food and banana split pie was so good. Highly recommended this restaurant. Service was great!
What a great discovery! Suggested by a local, this quaint restaurant exceeded expectations. The food was delicious, and the service was awesome. Our server, Bailey, was attentive and professional, truly making the experience wonderful. She kept repeating that she was going to take care of 'us', perfectly capturing that feeling of being right at 'home'. This place never disappoints—we'll be back!
A total gem in Greencastle! Almost Home is worth navigating the construction for a parking spot. The restaurant offers a variety of entrees, all prepared as very good food. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch of chicken salad, fresh fruit, and muffin. The service is stellar; the wait staff, especially our waitress, was exceptional! Dining al fresco under the shade of a tree on a hot day made the meal memorable. Well done, Almost Home!
What a wonderful spot, suggested by a local! This was a great experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was quaint, the food was delicious, and the service was awesome. Our server, Bailey, was the highlight—she took great care of us and truly knows how to make guests feel special. Given that we are never disappointed here, we highly encourage everyone to stop by and feel right at home!
Almost Home has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants. The atmosphere is pleasant and even our kids love the menu! Make sure you save room for dessert - the options are fantastic!
Fantastic food and dessert! Yay for not having TVs ruin the lovely atmosphere. When we are back in town, we will definitely make a priority to visit again. Great coffee.
After visiting a local antique store we decided to grab lunch close by. We stopped in to Almost home and were happy we did! This restaurant had good food, a nice atmosphere and fantastic service! There was a kids menu that was sure to please even the pickiest littles. We did not have time for dessert, but the desserts looked like they were made with love! Overall I would recommend Almost Home!
We stopped here for a couple of drinks and a quick bite on the Swizzle Stick portion of the restaurant on our way back from the Covered Bridge Festival. As huge Cubs fans ourselves the wall of memorabilia is absolutely amazing! My wife had a Lemon Drop Martini and loved it. I had a Bloody Mary which was pretty average. Our quick bite was the Spinach and Artichoke dip. It too was average. However, service and atmosphere were very good and we are looking forward to returning to have dinner.
Almost Home is the perfect spot for a delicious, casual meal with a small-town feel. I loved the friendly atmosphere and it's clear they're committed to the community. My pesto mozzarella burger was incredible – super flavorful and easy to eat on the go. Plus, their outdoor seating area is a great spot to soak up some sun. Highly recommend checking them out!
My friends enjoyed dinner here. I just had chips and a couple drinks because the vegan options are essentially nil. They have a hummus platter, but I'm not sure whether the naan is made with yogurt. The environment was lovely, and the service was great.
Agree with name...it was like home. Good quality food, cozy atmosphere. The Almost Home burger was good as was the soup of the day.
Great atmosphere and food! Love the freshness of it and the unique options. Not just your standard-fare on the menu. Gluten free and healthy options.
Ordered Tilapia topped with crab meat. Dinner was delish, service was great. Highly recommend.
Relaxed spot on the town square. It’s connected to the bar next door, which has a Chicago Cubs theme, but the restaurant area was calm and comfortable. Our server was helpful, efficient, and had a great sense of humor. Food was 👍 thank you for having us!
Really cute place! We drove out to Greencastle just to try this place out and what a charming little restaurant! My husband got the pork ribeye and I got the pulled pork bbq sandwich. While I absolutely devoured the sandwich, he found the pork ribeye to be a really strange texture that he did not really enjoy & the broccoli cheese soup was a bit bland. Maybe the ribeye was just the cut of meat? We had never heard of a pork ribeye before, so maybe it was just our own ineducation there. There was a reunion of some kind happening along with First Friday (an outdoor weekly festival!) and as a result it was very busy service was a little bogged down. It was very clear this is a very loved and well supported establishment in their community! Overall, we really enjoyed our service and the meal. We said many times that we would like to come back & try other things & hopefully be sat in the main dining room, it looked even more charming! The strawberry pizza is NOT to be missed! Also, that bbq sandwich is dynamite! This establishment seems to really shine in the sweet treat department, so no matter what you choose on the main dining menu, be sure you ask to see their selections for dessert! Thank you so much for hosting us, we can't wait to return soon!
Great food! If you don't mind a wait, and potentially the next door bar with open doors to the restaurant running trivia night. While I know the trivia night isn't an every night occurrence, and our party of 9 probably had some influence on the wait, altogether made for an interesting night to say the least. An hour and a half wait for the food seemed a bit excessive. Even with that, the experience was good, plenty of time to catch up with rarely seen family members. Plus, the food was quite excellent. Pork chop special for the night was the hot item. Servers kept up with with everyone at the table. I highly suggest you try this place, and I will be going back for a second chance.
The food was mediocre at best. While the staff was friendly and nice the service wasn’t good. We waited over an hour for the food. We waited 20 minutes for the cake. It took forever for us to get the ticket. The only people who occupied the restaurant was us (a party of 6) and another party of 4. The wait was ridiculous. We waited long periods of time for everything. The place seemed clean. The staff wore masks.
Our service & food were satisfactory. But we had reservations at 8:45 and was treated as if we were intruding. If you don't want customers at 8:45 don't make reservations for the dining room available for that time.
This is my second time coming here. The first time food and service was great. This time everything was terrible. We ordered 2 tenderloins and 2 slices of pie. We were there for 2 hours and 45 minutes others were coming and going while we just sit waiting. Our server rarely came by we only got one refill, took 45 minutes to get ketchup, the tenderloin didn't have any flavor and we were still hopeful for dessert but the pie was terrible. The pie was suppose to be french silk it was so stiff and gritty when I told our waitress she said yeah it gets that way sometimes. We should have been in and out in an hour it was crazy. I would not reccomend going here, especially on your lunch hour.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. Service is terrible, the manager Joe is rude and dismissive. The food quality has went downhill.
Our company planned an event at this restaurant back in September of 25. We booked this event with Gail who promised us the "Emerald Room," a private room where we could have a private business meeting. When booking we explained to Gail that at most we would have 25 people. The day of the event we spoke to the restaurant confirming our arrival. When we arrived at the restaurant, the manager Joe, said that the space was given to a different party and that he could not accommodate us. He said since our group was smaller, that we could sit in a different part of the restaurant, but we couldn't have our business meeting. Joe stated that since our group was smaller he gave the space to someone else, to which we responded if that were the case why didn't you explain that to us when we confirmed with you earlier that day. He said it didn't matter; he was very busy and asked us to leave or try another day. I've never witnessed a manager be so disrespectful and act like his customers really don't matter to him. Nobody from our company or our guests will ever come back to this restaurant.
