I'm a BBQ type of guy. I have eaten at a lot of different styles of BBQ restaurants all over the country and, This place is one of the best BBQ restaurants I have ever eaten at. They cook just enough food for the day, so they run out pretty quick. By the time I got there, they were already sold out of pretty much everything except for their. The sausage plate is a sausage plate and smoked turkey with brisket boudin and sausage. Was the best I ever had. I give this place 5 stars. I would give it more, but that's all they allow. I highly recommend this place, but I do suggest getting there early. I will definitely be back to try their brisket and ribs.

Small place that stays busy. My first time here and def will not be my last. I ordered a lot since it was my first time as I like to get an overview of the restaurant in general so here how it went sown. Ordered: jalapeno,cheese sausage, rib basket, brisket, a stuffed bacon cream cheese pepper, some ham, turkey, and a riblet basket. Tried the Mac and cheese , french fries, and a loaded potato casserole thing. Tried the spicy and non spicy sauce. Here is my take on it. 1. Brisket has a decent smoke ring but not overly smoked and a good pull to it. Flavor was good as well. I liked it 2. Stuffed Jalapeno was good but had better but by no means a bad jalapeno. I ate the thing and would order it again. ( Would like a little stronger smoke on the bacon is all). 3. Jalapeno cheese sausage was good and while not a stand out still good and would order it again. 4. Ribs I tried was something I think for me I did not like the spice profile of it and was a little hard on the pull. This I think while was decent I personally would not order it again. 5. Ham at first I thought this does not look like it was smoked but after trying it, it was smoked and actually much better than I anticipated. Would order again 6. Smoked turkey, this was really good the flavor on it was on point. Def order again. 7. Riblets, a clear surprise of my meal and this is something that this alone would keep me coming back for. For the price it's hard not to add this as a side to my plate of whatever I'm ordering. (Hats off on this one, it was way above my anticipation and my runaway favorite). 8. Mac and cheese. Tasted homade and was really good. 9. The tater casserole thing. Yup I liked it more than I thought and definitely would order again . Requests to owners. May I ask you think about either burnt ends, or pork belly burnt ends. I feel if you did them in the spice profile of the riblets they would be a huge success. Just my two cents. If you have not been here, please go try them out. There is a reason it says since 1948. Thanks for the meal and will be back.

This is probably the best BBQ I have ever had. Everything I had here was delicious and even their smallest portions are very generous. If you are in Dallas it is worth going out of your way to eat here.

This week, Ernie's catered a function for 150 people for us. The chopped brisket sandwiches, tator salad and beans were delicious! Josh does a great job of making sure we have what we need & we appreciate that kind of customer service!

This is one of the best kept secrets in Texas for amazing BBQ. They make their own special recipe sauce, and it is my favorite BBQ sauce of anywhere. The Ernies' basket (chopped brisket sandwich and fries) is my go to dish. I have had many loaded baked potatoes from Ernies, and you will be overjoyed by the serving size.

In town and grabbed a lunch to go. Got loaded baked potatoes with chipped beef. Both of us agreed they were delicious! The brisket isn’t really smokey like I normally prefer but was very tender and had a great taste. Tried the ernie bombs too. We both thought they were heavier on cream cheese than we’d like them to be but still very good. We’ll be back next time we’re in town!

BBQ brisket is a deeply personal thing to a Texan. Having spent a good chunk of my life in the Hill Country, I know great BBQ. ERNIE'S Pit Barbecue is great BBQ! Smokey, lean, pull apart with a fork kind of BBQ! I can't recommend them enough. The people working in there are so nice. I had a surprise birthday party for my girlfriend and Ernie's came through big time. Fresh cutting all the meats when I picked it up. The sides are spot on too. Just like my grandma made 'em. The Mac n Cheese is magical. Too bad I can only give 5 stars. They deserve more. If you give them a try. You will definitely be a fan.

My wife and I visited the new Greenville Tx location today, she's had it once before and I never had, mind you we live in Garland less than 2 miles where they kept their food truck and let me tell you I regret not trying it before, the brisket was some of the best I've ever had, the beans and potato salad were amazing but the best part of it was the owner and the staff, all around TOP NOTCH!! Whether you live near by or an hour away you will not be disappointed! Keep on keeping on Fire for the Lord!

UPDATE...Ernies is now Owned and operated by Fire for the Lord BBQ, a very amazing family! And today was the Grand opening. I was greeted at the door just like Church. The new owners are extremely nice people. I had the 3 meat plate 20.00, sliced brisket, ribs, jalapeno sausage, mac n cheese and hand cut fries. All amazing. I hope nothing changes. Welcome to Hunt County! The real deal! Food is just amazing. Brisket, ribs, jalepeno boudin, turkey, Ernie bombs, brisket chili, and Mac! The staff was amazing. the vibe was awesome. It's definitely a local and regular hangout. Highly recommend. Can't wait to come back. We just found our new place.

Walked in and I was greeted by Jennifer. I think that was her name. Very nice Lady who was super sweet. Then the owner walked by and greeted me and asked if I have tried the chicken before and I haven't been here since the change over. So he offered me a piece of chicken to try. And it was super tender and well seasoned and cooked to perfection. So Im very impressed with the service. They are super nice and nothing but smiles from all the other workers. Brought the food home and I was happy with everything I ordered. Especially the ribs and chicken! Thank y'all for you're hospitality. Great food!

Update: Stopped in again today (6/27/25). Food was outstanding and the service is beyond outstanding. I went early and the owner (husband) greeted me at the door. The wife was working the register and took my order. Everyone is very customer-focused. If you are in the area and haven't already given them a try, stop in. You will not be disappointed. Stopped in today to pick up barbeque for the first time since Ernie's changed ownership in January 2025. The food was great and the service was superior. Stop in and support this small business! It's definitely worth it.

3/27/2025 - Husband & I visited here for the first time and it was absolutely incredible! We will be coming back for sure. Had the rib plate, 2 REGULAR chopped brisket sandwiches (HUGE-lots of meat), chili cheese fries, potato salad, and pinto beans. Had enough leftovers for dinner tonight! The ENTIRE staff are all amazing people and very kind. Loved it! Thanks guys. ♥️

This is some of the best barbecue in Texas!! The chopped bbq beef brisket sandwiches and fries with the skins on are a lunch favorite for me. Everything I’ve had here is awesome. The restaurant is rustic cute with bench seats along the walls. Be sure to stop by early Wednesdays through Saturday because they sell out quick and they are closed the other days.

Came all the way from Dallas to try. Their service is friendly and helpful. Told them I wanted their popular item and gave me “The Pistol Pete” love the name. It is a brisket and sausage melt and it was scrumptious. The side of Mac n cheese that came with it was so flavorful. The staff makes you feel so invited, definitely worth the drive.

Great Texas Barbecue! Ernie's still has the classic old school bbq shop feel to it but they're serving up some real Texas bbq. Some might say craft bbq but really it's bbq done right like it should be. If you want the real deal Texas bbq then you have to give Ernie's a try! Homemade sausage, tender brisket, juicy turkey and some of the best fries around, real potatoesnot that frozen bag junk!!

Angels story is just as good as the food. They do few things different here. They do a smoked sweet pork belly that is very tasty and very rich! The brisket is moist and has less of a bark than some but it is very tasty.. The sides are good, but go hungry because the portions are big. Jaimie is a great guy and always helpful.

Food was amazing! Staff was very accommodating as it is not very wheelchair friendly even though they have a wheelchair ramp to get in to the location. Staff was very friendly and went above and beyond. We will definitely go back we will just have to figure out how to make it more accommodating for my husband to eat in his wheelchair or get it to go! Overall 5 stars if I could give it 6 I would!

As soon as I walked in I was welcomed, being my first time in there I wasn’t sure what to expect. Upon deciding what I wanted to order a staff member (I think he may have actually been the owner), made a recommendation that the loaded potatoes are good, and they are big, I did proceed with the potato with pulled pork and hot link on it. The customers there seemed almost like family with the staff, knew each other, asked how everything is going, etc. Every interaction I had with staff and even some other customers was positive. They asked my name for when my order was ready, and just a few minutes here it came. A loaded baked potato that justifies the saying “everything is bigger in Texas”, and it was fantastic. In a lot of restaurants they do whatever they can to get your order in, to your table, and get you out the door as quick as possible. This place here, genuinely cared about my experience, all the way from the minute I walked in, until the moment I walked out. I highly recommend and from this point forward I know where I’m getting lunch when I’m in Greenville.

What a pleasant surprise this was! The rub on the pork ribs has great flavor. It's not overpowering, it enhances the great flavor of the meat. I loved the pork ribs! The sausage was good, not dry, very moist. I didn't taste the brisket, so I cannot comment. The brisket beans, however, were very good . And the pickles!! I loved those pickles. Crisp and great flavor!; Everyone there was kind and friendly and I love the school style desk single seats along the wall. It's has that "neighborhood joint" feeling. And I like it We will go back-- those were tasty ribs worth eating again. :)

The best BBQ I've had in a while , just had rib crib , have had soul mans , but this was a generous helping of sliced beef and awesome homemade fries. The tea was good also.

Good food! Real good meat prep, but bark and sauce are not quite national quality. Not complex enough in its flavor, but still very good. Nice hometown folks! Service is fast even during lunch hour. Not a lot of tables; so, had to sit on the old-style wall bench with built-in seats made for skinny folks. Not the most comfy, but I still managed to stuff myself on fresh-cut fries, slaw, pintos, and the marbled brisket...fork tender! Yum!

Have enjoyed Ernie's great BBQ for over 35 years. Friendly service and great BBQ and sides. As of November 2023, the prices have risen considerably. The prices on the old menu photo are not even close to current.

Excellent Brisket and Mac & Cheese! The jalapeño grits were also good. The pulled pork was not bad, but not the best either. Excellent staff: friendly, helpful and fast. Portions were excellent for the cost. The sauce is served in squeeze bottles you can take/have at thectable (plenty of it) and tastes great! Seating can be limited (only due to size, but is uniquely extended with single school style seats on the side walls. It handled our fairly sizeable group of 10 by pushing tables together, but we came early for lunch time norms. Come early to get exactly what you want, by closing it is already gone!

Brisket fell apart and was super juicy.. it was clean and the staff was friendly. Best Mac and Cheese ive ever had in my life. I loved the old school desk that you can eat at. Its a little pricey but i guess everything seems to be these days. Could of had some low music playing in background to add a little to the atmosphere.

I always try multi meat plates when available, so the 2 meat for me. Brisket and pulled pork. Brisket was decent, nice flavor but fatty. Pulled pork was very nice. I'm not of the rub, but it was a definitive change from Alabama pulled pork, in a good way.

Was a pretty good place for a quick meal. Brisket was sliced too thick and a little dry. The sauce would be better served warm. The portions are generous and loaded baked potato is very good. You order at the counter and they call you when it's ready.

They may be Christian but they dont know bbq. Y'all use Sweet Baby Ray's, which is just corn syrup and preservatives. As a bbq establishment y'all should be making your own bbq. Y'all also say that the plates come with the "side of the day" but I looked through every image I could find online and they all had potato salad which alot of people actually do not like. Feels scammy if that's your "side of the day" every day. The ribs were okay but I only got 1 rib and a few trim pieces. Pulled pork was bland, potato was overcooked and had hardly any bbq sauce. P.S. to take the potato to the next level, stop using the cheap mexican cheese blend that doesn't melt and use nacho cheese and some homemade bbq sauce instead. I'm all for supporting small and local businesses but this was just disappointing. Would y'all serve this to Jesus?

Between the 4 of us we got the brisket, 2 kinds of sausage, ribs and various sides. The ribs were way too salty, almost inedible. The sausage and brisket were OK. The coleslaw was the best part of the meal. We will not go back.

Yeah all the good reviews have to be from before the new owners. For the last few years this place was great. Fire for the Lord folks are amateurs at best. Not to be mean, but significant drop in quality and flavor of food. They are nice people and all. Brisket lacks bark and flavor. Sausage used to be homemade or from a butcher shop. This stuff they serve now is comparable to mediocre sausage from the grocery store. If people think this is good, they likely have never been to some of highly regarded places in Dallas, Ft Worth, Austin, etc. It is better than Dickies, yes. Better than Soulmans, that's worth debating. The fact they are in the same convo is telling. My review may be a little harsh, but they took a place I really enjoyed (Ernie's) and downgraded it.

The brisket was awful. Tasted old, dry and tough to chew. Coleslaw was bland and dry. Mac and cheese was ok. The jalopenio sausage was the best out all of what I had, and even that was mediocre. Its almost like we got served days old food. The portions are plentiful. But that doesnt make up for the bad food we were served. The staff was super friendly. Loved the old school dining area.

Bought a pound of sliced beef, none of the meat was from the flat, so it was way too fatty and not usable. The ribs were juicy and tasted good enough but did not seemed smoked at all, the meat was really tough, it reminded me of oven cooked ribs. Extremely disappointed, especially with how much it cost. Going to stick with Johnson st. smokehouse for my bbq.

I absolutely love texas bbq and qas excited to try this place!! So its a saturday and this places was packed so one assume the smoke would be rolling off the cookers however a motorcycle parked immediately in for of one pit and a trailer about 3 ft off the pit would be on and that tAll of the meats were marginal at best brisket and pulled pork tasted as though it was baked in the oven and then finished in a crock pot briaket was soggy with absolutely no smoke. Sausage was echrich off the shelf at walmart!!! I will say the sauce was good which it has to be to flavor the bland meat. Pickets were alao good. Will not return unless I am looking for a bland meal. Very unfortunate

Most of these reviews will be for the old owners. The new brisket isn’t good. We asked for moist, but didn’t get it. There’s minimal bark and flavor, and it doesn’t look like they trim a brisket well. We also tried their ribs and chicken, neither of which had much flavor.
