Delicious food, friendly service, and cozy ambience. We ordered the lamb momo which were insanely addictive! We also got the calamari alongside as an appetizer which was very good. For our main we shared the goat and mushroom tarkari which tasted super fresh and had a perfect level of spice, so it paired well with our mango lassi. Would definitely recommend this place!
If you haven’t had Nepalese, Base Camp is perfect to expand your palette. Friendly staff. Heat scale is 1–10 with 6 & 7 enjoyable levels of spicy. Not too hot but enough to entertain your nose. Went with buffalo and chicken dumplings, lamb chops, goat sauté, and more. The desserts help cool your mouth down.
We eat here once a week, at a minimum. Basecamp has become an important family tradition for us. The food is exceptional! The staff are thoughtful and kind. Basecamp is easily the best restaurant in Hanover, bar none. I would go so far as to say say you wont find a better meal anywhere. Try the gundruk soup, spice level 7. It is my personal all-time favorite food.
Delicious! Everything we had was amazing, I would recommend the jeera chicken and the wild boar momos. You can choose the spice level of your food too. Great place.
Great gluten-free options marked on the menu. I had the Shrimp Tarkari (Lunch) option and they have spice levels from very mild to very hot that you can select. For drink I had the cucumber cooler "Fresh pickle cucumber muddled with lime, pinch of Himalayan pink salt full of essential minerals and soda water."
Great food. I had chicken mushroom chili. My wife had chicken mushroom tarkari. Both were really good. The room was good for conversation and talking with our friends.
We love base camp! Attentive staff ready to answer questions, clearly marked menu with many options including a great drinks and mocktail menu, tasty options, I highly recommend the noodle stir fry.
Food and service were awesome. Highly recommend. Chicken chili was awesome. I want to go back to try the grilled chicken the nepali way and the tarkari. 5/5 all around!
Found this absolute gem tucked away in town! It has such a cozy, warm vibe that makes you want to linger. The staff are incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. We tried the momo, soup and the noodles, and they were packed with flavor—honestly, everything we ordered was a hit. They have a lovely selection of vegetarian options on the menu, which is a huge plus. Definitely a must-visit!
Everything was so so tasty, the goat curry was lovely! The owners are kind and attentive. I just left and already want to come back
Great food and excellent service combine with a comfy, cozy dining space and friendly staff to provide a meal out which will be well worth the trip AND repeating. Love this place and eat there frequently, happily.
Absolutely incredible food & service! The momos were perfection and the tofu chillie dish was flavorful and delicious. Will definitely be back!
We loved Base Camp Cafe! Try the gundruk soup on a cold day, it will warm you right up. The momo were amazing, as were the stir fried noodles and takari. I was very impressed with the many delicious vegan options available. Wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff :)
Stopped in for a quick afternoon bite and had such a delightful experience. The flavors in the food were so well-balanced and interesting. Even the steamed broccoli had something special about it. The most surprising was the EXCELLENT cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed the "Sunny Base Camp" and even the classic Manhattan was perfect. We will be going back when we want great drinks and delicious food.
Excellent food! This is the place to go in Hanover. Our dishes had fresh vegetables and meat with delicious sauces. I highly recommend the cucumber and tamarind drinks
Covid was hard and I agree that the food tasted different at that time, a little more bland. HOWEVER, since then I have been there at least 8 times. The food is so flavorful! The Service is excellent and honestly it is on my Top 5 restaurants. I think they have really transformed and improved. 5 stars from me.
We were visiting Quechee from NYC and were really craving some flavourful food. This hit the spot! Very flavourful, hearty and light on the belly. We got vegetarian/vegan dishes - the chili based paneer dish was especially fantastic. The people working there were wonderful and very accommodating of our requests too. So glad to have found this little gem during our travels.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. I loved the Nepali decorations and artwork. The dumplings with goat meat and side of curry/tomato were tasty. I liked the soup - spicy and flavorful. We had a curry w chicken which was awesome- very tender. We had a chili dish w goat. The goat was tough but had a lot of nice flavors so I didn’t mind at all. We got a rice pudding to go, very yummy. Loved the chai tea! Would love to come back!
Had stopped by while I was driving through the area and was really happy with my decision. Wish I could have dined in since the atmosphere was so cozy, and even more so after having the take out I had ordered. I ordered their Nepalese grilled chicken, the lamb momo and the cucumber cooler along with the (not lentil soup… forgot the name… the other soup haha) but all the dishes were amazing. And I wished I ordered 5 of those coolers. Food was so tasty, not oily, and very unique. Was surprised and pleased that I was able to indulge in a new cuisine in this smaller college town. And not to mention how personable the restaurant owners/staff were. Kapa (not sure if I spelled that right) and his family were very friendly, had come over from Nepal over 10 years ago, bringing their Nepalese food with them wherever they have moved around the country. Hopefully they will still be there next time I am in the area so I can have a a proper sit down meal.
This unique restaurant has fabulous food, ambiance, and staff. I highly recommend the grundok soup, I seriously believe this is the best soup I've ever had. It's so flavorful. If I lived in the area, I'd buy it by the gallon. Definitely dip the bread in it. It's a whole other level. The vegetable momos were delicious, and my eggplant paneer curry dish was fantastic. I love that you can choose your spicy level from 1 to 10. The staff was extremely attentive. We never wanted for anything. This is my first experience with Nepalese food, and it was an excellent one.
This restaurant is a gem! Everything was absolutely delicious! The pineapple lassi was phenomenal. The veggie momo (like a dumpling) was tasty with a terrific dipping sauce. The bread had a really excellent avocado basil sauce we took home with us it was so superb. We enjoyed both entrees - mushroom noodles and the chicken tarkari. Amazing!!! Visit if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!
The ambiance, I liked the pleasant atmosphere of Nepal and it's related photos and items. The place is one large hall and thus may be noisy but It did not bother me. As to the food, I liked that it was not Indian and not Chinese but a wonderful flavor of it's own; Nepalese. Because we were not sure if and when we'll be back, we ordered several dishes to have a better idea on this cousin. The vegetable Momo (dumpling) was excellent, although I'd like the dough to be lighter (but that may make it not Nepalese). The Dal (yellow lentel) soup delish with many pleasant flavors, such as Cumin seeds. The {Takari tofu and eggplant} and the {Chili tofu and mushroom} were was very good. In both dishes the green 🫑 peppers were too dominant but the flavors of both dishes were supreme. I had to taste something from the grill and decided on lamb chops which again did not turned me down. It was very good with wonderful flavors. The service and the entire operation were smooth, fast and on time. In summary, we had a symphony of new cousin and will certainly enjoy again.
You would think a Nepalese restaurant would be on the top of the building, so it was almost disappointing to find it located in the basement. Not to worry, there is little else to harp on! Base Camp is a charming little bistro w excellent menu items. All that I’ve had were well made and presented by an affable wait staff. Service was generally quick at lunch time. The only slowdown was the time it takes to eat all of the food they bring. The other day I enjoyed the (lamb) momos as an app. Steamed to perfection, and generously plated. Still, so good I ate them all! Then, the Goat & Mushroom Chili arrived, and I knew I had my work cut out. I asked for “medium” heat. Overhearing from a neighboring table, they considered that 7 out of 10. It was definitely spicy, but not at all uncomfortable. The meat was sweet and juicy. The veggies cooked appropriately. My only complaint, and it is a small one, was that it was tough to find the mushrooms in a dish named for them. They kept the water glass full. The iced tea, though delivered late, had a really strong tea flavor w hints of something I couldn’t easily identify. Delicious!
A pretty nice dining experience. Food is tasty and well portioned. Ambience is really nice and relaxing and staff are friendly. Not anything stand out though, especially considering other nearby restaurants. Would come to change things up but wouldn't come to come. Still would recommend though.
This is the n-th time that we come to this restaurant, either for work or with friends. However, I had not been here in a few years. This time it was 5 of us. My order was messed up, ordered a chili and got a chhoila, but that is not a problem, I was happy with either. But the food was ok at best. Some veggies and shrimp stir fried in some tomato sauce, not particularly flavorful. It felt like this is something i could have made myself at home in 5 minutes. Good ginger non-alcoholic drink. It was about $40 each with a shared appetizer and a couple of soups and a main dish each. No alcoholic beverages. Not impressed, probably won't be back for another few years. Valerio
Been going here for probably 8 years. Started as a 5 star, dropped to 4, and last week was a 3. There was almost no lamb in my dish, maybe 6 small pieces I had to hunt for. Also a noticeable drop in the quality of the food. Definitely sliding over the years.
