Great Reuben, service and atmosphere at Lou’s. Very nice diner experience.
Had an amazing breakfast at Lou’s Restaurant! Ordered the breakfast steak and egg quesadilla and the California breakfast sandwich. Both were packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The quesadilla had tender steak and perfectly scrambled eggs, while the California sandwich was fresh and hearty. The portion sizes were generous, and the service was friendly and quick. Definitely a go-to spot for a satisfying and delicious meal!
Used Google to find a restaurant around 11am on a Monday near the VA medical center with good reviews and that served breakfast all day and Lou's did not disappoint. I had the patty melt with fries. It's made with maple bacon jelly and jalapeños. Just the right amount of heat.
Food is still great. Real ingredients. Wait staff is friendly & talented (taking orders, remembering! orders, knowing /recognizing when you need something) all while the place is packed. An institution that values its reputation.
Visiting from Canada, and what a treat this was. Wonderful old school diner, with great food, and very friendly staff. Make sure you leave room for dessert, as the cakes and pastries are awesome. Can't wait to go back.
Everything tastes amazing! The salads always have very fresh vegetables and taste like they came directly from my moms garden. The soup tastes homemade. Their sandwiches and fries are delicious. The staff are always friendly. Keep up the good work!
This place is always great! Whether you’re dining in or getting takeout or picking up a mile high apple pie, you can’t get friendlier service and more consistent, high-quality food. It’s not just a diner, it’s an icon for the community and I love going there.
Literally planned a trip so it could be close enough to get Lou's. We got there before 8 on a Saturday and plenty of seating. They've added a good variety of options over the years. The crueller French toast is a must with real maple. I would ask them to cook it longer tho since I like a bit of crisp. The pesto scramble was really good tho I'll ask they remove the cheese topping next time since it was good without.
Went here on a Monday morning and it was quite busy. Sat at the counter as it was just me. Classic diner feel, service was friendly and quick and the food....wonderful. Decided to go with something a little different than my usual eggs benedict and I'm glad a did. I had the Poutine Bowl and wow was it packed with flavor. This rendition had hash brown, pork sausage gravy, chopped pieces of bacon, cheddar cheese sauce topped with two over easy eggs. Very filling and delicious.
There was a line upon arrival but it went by fast. The service was excellent, the food was awesome, place was very clean. There were tons of gluten free options. I ordered the BLATT sandwich on gluten free bread and split the gluten free french toast with my husband for dessert. A food highlight for us!
Lou’s Bakery made our wedding cake dreams come true! The cake was absolutely delicious—beautifully made, perfectly balanced in flavor, and truly special. It was everything we hoped for and more. They also created the sweetest take-home cookies for our guests, which were a huge hit. We’re so thankful for their talent and care in making our day even more memorable. Highly recommend!
We've been coming to Lou's since our daughter first went to Dartmouth in 2003. if you're stopping here before you go home, be sure to take home one of their Mile high pies, they are amazing and wonderful to share! Breakfasts are generous, delicious, and served with a smile. We recently stopped by for a late lunch and enjoyed yummy smash burgers. You can never go wrong at Lou's and it is well worth several visits!
From the moment we stepped into Lou’s Bakery and Restaurant for our cake tasting with Jaime, we knew we’d found the one. The bride and groom were absolutely floored by the flavors—each bite was a preview of wedding day magic. Lou’s was our clear choice for the wedding cake and cupcakes, and they delivered beyond our wildest dreams. On the big day, the cake and cupcakes stole the show. Not only were they stunning—but the taste? Pure bliss. Layers of moist cake and silky frosting had guests raving weeks later, from Colorado Springs to Vermont. Lou’s didn’t just make desserts; they crafted memories. We also ordered breakfast burritos for the morning after, and holy moly, they were the perfect post-party fuel and hit all the right spots after an epic night of dancing. Lou’s delivered incredible value without skimping on quality. What sets Lou’s apart isn’t just their world-class baking—it’s their heart. Jaime is a rock star, going above and beyond with every email and call. His kindness, patience, and flawless customer service made planning a breeze. The entire Lou’s team brought consistency and warmth, making us feel like family. Thank you, Lou’s, and especially Jaime, for making our wedding unforgettable. You’re woven into our special day.
From the moment we walked in people were so friendly with us despite the crowd– – – And it didn’t feel fake. The menu selection is robust and the food itself is delicious. The muffin selection is huge. They have donuts galore that they make on the premises. And they have gluten-free and vegan options. Vegetarian options. I completely recommend eating here when in Hanover. Breakfast or lunch.
This place is the cutest little diner in Hanover. It’s like a blast from the past with all the pics and booths and low bar seats. The food was delicious (chicken and waffles!!) and service was great (considering Sunday brunch rush). The pies that we came to pick up, unfortunately, were just average tasting. We’ll def be back to try the other things on the menu.
We went during the breakfast rush and although we got seats right away, the food took a long time to arrive. The waitress offered us complimentary donuts or muffins while we waited. Of course my husband took her up on that and he got an enormous maple bacon donut. Our breakfast was hot and delicious. 10 stars.
Avocado toast seems very simple, but for some reason, at Lou’s it hits different. I don’t know if it’s the greens that accompanies it or they perfectly poached eggs I always get on top.I love this breakfast so much that I have not been able to try any of their other selections because it’s a must every single time for me.
The place is clean. This was our 1st visit. Waitress by the door never greeted us. We tried to figure out where to go, sign was confusing. After a few minutes someone asked if we wanted a table (yes). Stand aside and someone will seat you. After several minutes someone finally took us past 7 empty tables & seated us. Our waitress served coffee, but never came back to refill. The inlet was cooked great, home fries were dark brown, tough & greasy. Been sitting out for quite awhile. Waitress never asked if we’d like anything else, just brought us our check. We told her the uneaten potatoes were awful. She replied “sorry” and gave us the bill. Very pricy: omelette potato, muffin plus 2egg scramble & muffin, 1 cup coffee = $40+. Not worth it!
Outstanding local dining experience on the main drag in Hanover. This local establishment has been around since just after WW2, and is a mainstay of the Hanover scene. Although it’s moved on from its diner roots, there are plenty of old favorites that harken back to that era. I went with a breakfast burger - bacon and eggs on top of a huge patty served with a side of home fried potatoes. The baked goods also looked fantastic and the coffee was excellent. Very filling, simple, and done very well. There is inside and outside seating, good service, and great food.
Lou’s Restaurant and Bakery is one of the only diners in the area with a diverse menu. They have a lot of options and are known for their breakfast items. However, we went at lunch, which was extremely busy (around a 30 minute wait for our meals). When we got our food (primarily sandwiches and salads) it was pretty good, but we had higher expectations given the reviews. We also got a donut, which was very good. If you’re in the area and want to check it out, try out some breakfast items at a time that isn’t too busy.
