Lovely cosy place, food was delicious and staff really friendly 😁

Came for Sunday dinner after really never hearing about the place before. Sensational Sunday dinner (I had the pork, other half had the beef), really fresh and well cooked food. Lovely staff and amazing decor and ambience! Will be returning!

The scampi and homemade chips with minted peas at Duke of Cleveland pub in the Headland in Hartlepool were absolutely lovely. The staff were professional and polite, making me feel like a VIP. The toilets were clean, and the decor and atmosphere were great. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!

This is simply a brilliant pub for great food on the Headland. The staff always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and I'd recommend anyone visiting the Headland to try the food here. I visit regularly and the food is superb. They have a good menu and drink selection. Parmos, pies sundays lunches are excellent and the chips here are second to none.

Had a meal last night after a day at the Tall Ships, service and food was amazing. Large portions, very tasty and all of our party were impressed! My daughter can be fussy but commented ‘the pizza was better than great, never had a pizza so good’ which believe me is very high praise. We’ll definitely be back soon.

Very quiet dining room, lovely wood burning stove. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Good was utterly amazing - freshly cooked, so don't expect it on the table in 5 minutes. Staff apologised for the wait, but honestly I'd much rather wait 20 mins and get freshly cooked hot food! Pork belly was delicious, Parmo very good, and homemade chips were just stunning. Will definitely be back.

My son fancied fish and chips so took him along for a treat. He ate the whole lot (massive portion and beautifuly cooked). I had the duke burger which was AMAZING. Great service too! Will definitely be going back.

Four of us dropped in unplanned and unbooked on Friday evening and what a great chance encounter. The owner met us at the bar and when we said we didn't have a reservation he said he had on spare table and was really friendly and welcoming. It was a bit odd at first as there was a local band on (Electric Sheep and they were excellent) but the place is very much set up for dining. Once I got over this and we ordered food we all had an absolutely brilliant evening. The food was good and reasonably priced. Lovely old pub with a lot of character (and characters) and the evenings entertainment was fabulous. First time visiting but will definitely look out for more band nights as this was the best night out in quite a while. Big thanks to the manager and all the staff for making room for us and making us feel welcomed.

We booked for Sunday lunch after hearing some good reports. Excellent sized portions, possibly too much, but who ever complains about getting too much food for a good price. Trio of meat's all well cooked and with plenty of gravy and portion of exceptional cauliflower cheese (be warned it's nuclear when it arrives). Only suggestion would be an extra stuffing ball for the amount of meat and possibly some horseradish sauce - we should have asked. Atmosphere was nice, all very polite and just the right volume with brilliant service from the team.

Could not rate this higher. Was keen to adventure and eat in different places on all nights of our trip, but came back a further two times to the Duke of Cleveland after an initial faultless experience. Super rich and flavourful food but great on the wallet and superb friendly service with owner keen to mingle with guests during busier weekend nights and showed a genuine interest for patrons. Will definitely be coming back when in the area!

Came here for a friend's wedding yesterday, Paul was a fantastic host Great food and great service. Could do with a place like this in Carlisle 😂

Visited tonight with my daughter and had a brilliant experience. The food was fantastic, service came with a smile, and the whole place was absolutely immaculate. Highly recommend! We will definitely be returning 🌟

Very nice. Hidden. Coffee about rank, but Manager sorted our coffee issues. Lovely venue. Food not to bad either. One tip; If your staff are in a rush to finish their shift ……. don’t rush your customers. It’s noticable!

Sunday lunch with friends here was lovely though I'd have easily eaten the veg twice over...just not enough of it for me! We did wait a long time to order drinks, food and desserts but what we had was really nice! Staff were very polite too and smiley despite being very busy!

Very tasty with plenty of meat been twice loved it both times well recommended

We enjoyed another excellent meal at the Duke of Cleveland. The staff although busy were friendly. The only disappointment was after we had finnished our main meal, we could not order dessert as the kitchen had closed at 8.00pm. We booked for 7pm so I would advise to book well before then, as this has happened to us twice.

Enjoyed Sunday lunch again, food tasty and piping hot. Best in town

Had a lovely dining experience. The food is slightly on the pricier side but is definitely worth it. Almost everything was cooked to perfection. I will say the mash was very tasteless and bland. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is beautiful, the lighting is perfect and the warmth from the open fire makes it just that bit more homely. The staff were very friendly, well mannered and welcoming. Will definitely return in the near future.

Called in one early evening last week, ordered Haddock&Chips, a Chicken Royal and a Salmon meal. All Excellent along with puddings. Good pint of Trophy beer, good value, great service. Bit early for atmosphere. We'll be back soon. Called back in today for Sunday lunch but sadly disappointed. Beef was stringy and meal was cold, off a cold plate. A real shame because otherwise very tasty. Our dog enjoyed the beef and plenty of it. We'll be back though.

On Saturday 21st February, family and friends were celebrating our sister's (Viv) 60th birthday and celebrate it we did!! We could not have chosen a better venue than the 'Duke of Cleveland', the food was absolutely outstanding and I speak on behalf of everyone I spoke with and that was a lot of people, numbering around 30 or so, and there was probably just a small number of mainly younger children I did not get around to speaking with but of those younger one's I did manage to talk to, they also had high praise for the food. The venue was chosen because many of the people that attended my sister's party had been there previously which was why it was highly recommended. I know the chef personally (Rob) and he worked his socks off that night to deliver top quality food and in a timely manner, aided by two very courteous and friendly female members of staff (whose names I didn't get unfortunately), who were outstanding in making sure everyone received their food. The atmosphere was brilliant, full of laughter and chatter in a very well presented room which lended the perfect ambience to help create the amazing night we had and my sister was 'blown away' (her words) by it all. It was my first visit to the restaurant but it won't be my last. I fully endorse the comments made by all those I spoke with and would thoroughly recommend the 'Duke of Cleveland' to anyone who enjoys good food. Hats off to the chef and the staff for their sterling work. Thank you on behalf of all who attended

Attended a private party last night with all of my family and the place couldn’t have done enough for us. There were 35 of us in total and everyone has told me the food was delicious. I had the chicken tikka and the sticky toffee pudding and it was amazing! Will definitely be having that again! Compliments to the chef! The two girls behind the bar were lovely and served everything with a smile! Great credit to the company. Will definitely be holding more family events there.

Wow! We visited for Sunday roast after hearing so many good things. One of the best Sunday roasts we've had in ages. Generous portions, reasonable prices and staff are friendly. The place has a lovely cosy vibe and food was delicious. My only regret was that I didn't get pigs in blankets... will have to try them next time.

An absolute little gem of a pub. We didn't plan to eat out but stumbled across this place. The service was impeccable, the staff were lovely. When the food arrived it was presented beautifully and made with care using quality ingredients. I can't recommend it highly enough. We will definitely be back.

I've just had burger and chips delivered. It was the best burger I have had. The burger comes in a special box so it's not soggy ! The salad was so fresh and you could taste the quality in the beef! The chips where home made and totally unbelievably tasty! Will be ordering again !

Set inside one of the town's oldest buildings, this pub is a gem! The staff were very friendly and eager to help. The food is all freshly cooked and locally sourced in plentiful portions. The pub was very clean and beautifully furnished. I would absolutely come again

First time in, great food, excellent service, good value for money. Staff friendly and engaging. Professional in their manner. Was quite quiet for early Saturday evening so lacked a little atmosphere but will definitely be going back.

J

Very friendly and professional staff, a very clean all round place, what we ate was very fresh, hot and tasty and the chips are to die for. If i had a complaint, it would be that the portions are too large (very strange i know!) but 4 dough balls for a starter is way too much, however they were freshly made and very tasty. Highly recommended 👌 👍

Absolutely Amazing!! I went here for my birthday with my husband and 2 children. They were very friendly and polite. Showed us to our table, and very quickly asked us what drinks we would like. The place was spotless. Cannot fault it all. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Their parmesan dishes are highly recommended. The chicken tenders and chips were enough as a main for my children because they were 4 of them and a lot of chips which are extremely yummy!! Definitely a 5* experience for me.

Visited Duke of Cleveland for the first time on Sunday. The hospitality from Ange and Elysha was exceptional. They made our visit very warm and welcoming. Ange and Elysha engaged and interacted with us really well. We discussed the local artist Ian Lightfoot and they introduced us to his artwork which was very interesting. So much so, my Father in Law is going to attend his weekly art class. I was also introduced to a new Spanish Beer (Cruzcampo) which was very nice and one I would certainly recommend this beer. The aesthetic of the pub is of a high standard, making relaxing and sipping a few beers comfortable. We didn't have any food so I haven't rated it but if it's anything like the customer service and the beer, I'm sure it will be top notch. Thank you for a great experience and we will be back soon.

Excellent food and service. Nothing was any bother even when we asked for a change to the menu. What a lovely place. Will definitely be back. Well done to all the staff.

Beautiful venue with vibrant bar staff. Elysha deserves a pay rise! Can't recommend this pub enough. Steaks cooked to perfection and the cognac so smooth. I will visit again as soon as I can.

Sunday lunch yesterday. Lovely service very pleasant staff, kept coming over to ask if we needed any drinks 🍸 lunch was served with the biggest Yorkshire pudding , and the food was lovely. There was so much food I would have liked the option of a smaller portion as I left about half . Overall very nice

Sunday carvery was hot and freshly served, roast beef was extremely nice with the meat gravy. Lots of veg choices. I had baileys blitz for dessert which was delicious. Other desserts were being well received all around. Staff were very keen to make sure we were happy with our food and service was very quick.

One of the best Sunday dinners! Beef cooked as you personally like it, good selection of veg, roasties and gravy to die for, definitely go again! Great service from cheerful staff, lovely pub/restaurant.

A very good Sunday lunch, the trio of meats (£19) with a side of pigs in blanket.(£4) Very good portions, gorgeous gravy too. The young ladies work very hard to deliver drinks and food. We will be back.

Went in for a late Sunday lunch here today we had the dining room all to ourselves as we were the last people in. The food was superb, in fact the best Sunday roast we've had out for a long time. T he service was great and very friendly. The dog was made very welcome too. We will definitely be returning, hopefully when it's a little busier.

S

A really pleasant visit where we were made to feel very welcome, not having booked in advance. The main restaurant was fully booked but the staff opened up an upstairs room for us where we enjoyed a well presented and tasty Sunday lunch. The food was good and the service was excellent. The price was reasonable and there was a good selection of beers and wines on offer. It is a nice location overlooking the nearby historic church and although the entrance to the car park is a bit tight for bigger vehicles it has parking for several cars.

L
Lorraine Cuthbert

We all enjoyed the meal, even though I didn't care for the thick gravy all over the food. The place was a little cold 🥶 in the lobby and toilets, which was uncomfortable 😐 The dining room is filled with tables all in a row, which makes it feel like a canteen layout, apart from three round tables in the window area. Maybe this is to enable to serve many people at the same time. We had to ask for cutlery after our meals were served, which wasn't a problem, but it shows the lack of attention to detail. The lighting in the dining was really bright, no subtle glow or cosy feel Nothing special to be honest, just a basic Sunday lunch

V
Verina Horner

I attended a wedding there. It's an historic great place with many levels so if you are thinking of booking it for an event there is no lift ok. Seemed to wait ages to get served with drinks over issues with pumps but this wasn't the main bar on the ground floor. As i said there are many levels to this place with many bars. I would recommend a visit. Clean, tidy, well decorated. Nice.

C
Chemical Summer

Nothing special if I'm honest. Food was ok a little pricey if anything for what I received as my meal was especially nice just very average. My first time being there and I'm unlikely to ever return. Service was slow and it's not like the place was particularly busy. Staff were friendly however.

We came tonight as a group of 5 people, after leaving realised we were overcharged for drinks, that the other people in our group paid for... staff needs to keep proper tabs of purchases and listen when people are paying separately. Not a nice experience won't be back.

Christmas Fayre review- A three course meal @ £32.00 per head. When we arrived our table was not dressed as re website photos. We were lucky to get four Christmas crackers which were plonked on the table. There was no fire and the Christmas ambience was appalling. We had to ask for some Christmas music I have never been to such an establishment with such horrible food. How we did not get all get food poisoning was sheer luck. The meat/ beef that we had on our plate stunk. Ok we did not pay for the meal after complaining but it spoilt my/our Christmas experience. I am so disappointed as I have been other times on a Sunday and had a nice meal. Hence why we booked it for our Christmas Fayre. I even made a special trip to the pub to hand in menus orders for our meal. It looked so inviting from the website. I would however, never go back there again.

They "squeezed" us in as we didn't book, seemed like they wanted us to think they've done us a favor, with the last 4 places. Drinks were supplied quickly, that's the end of the speediness! We had to ask for the menus and for our orders to be taken. We were then moved to another table, noticed another table was shuffled to another spot too. From walking in the door to getting the food it was just under an hour. A couple that came in the same time as us, we're finished and paid up before we had a bite to eat. Will not return!

This was our 1st visit to the Duke Of Cleveland. We stopped In for a bite to eat and a hot drink to warm up after our bitterly cold winter walk. The service was less than delightful with a waitress that had a terrible attitude on her and anything we asked for seemed like she had to go out of her way and beyond to complete our request. We all had a hot chocolate, which left us less than impressed as it tasted more like hot water with a hint of cocoa. When asked if she could bring us some extra sugar, we were grunted at with a "you've already got sugar" response as she pointed to the table (we had 1 sachet) We then asked if we could possibly have some extra milk (to make the hot chocolate a little more palatable) 4 Hours later we are still waiting for said milk. Food was ordered, and aprox 50 minutes later we were still waiting for 3 bowls of chips and a pizza. When enquired about how much longer the food was going to take as it was closely reaching the hour mark since we had ordered, the waitress snapped heavily with a response of... "No it hasn't! " 😲 I felt like I was having my head bit off by a grumpy teenager. The food did follow shortly after, which was tasty and hot if i am to be honest. By this time we all felt we'de had our throats cut as our stomach's grumbled with hunger. When getting ready to leave, I left my partner to deal with the pleasure of approaching said waitress and her charming demeanour to finalise our bill. I think our only pleasurable experience of our visit was the warm fire that roasted the room up and our cold little bodies. Needless to say, we will not be returning for a second visit.

c
charlotte southcott

Very disappointing. Potatoes were lumpy (mash) and hard (roasties). Beef only came at medium even though the menu said you could choose how it came, and the beef was underwhelming. We had to keep getting up to ask for drinks. We weren't offered dessert and when waiting for someone to ask we were told our table was needed for the next reservation. Clearly understaffed on a fully booked fathers day Sunday lunch service

S
Sandra Kingston

A group of us went for Christmas fare the place was cold the table had four Christmas crackers on it, there was six of us the prawns smelt like the drains . My mane meal was turkey rolled round a ball of stuffing which was hard as rocks the hole meal was a let down i could go on for ever we had all been looking forwards to this meal and what a let down it was . When the boss turned up there was no apology more or less didn't believe any of us . Just wish we had taken pictures. I told him I wasn't paying for the meal and left .
