Such a gem! The food was very tasty. We ate almost everything we ordered. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Service was friendly and genuine. It’s the kind of place I root for . Would definitely come back with friends for kamayan!.
My daughter wanted to try this restaurant because we love South East Asian food. It was my first time trying Filipina food. The food was very good most importantly the staff and owner were very friendly and accommodating. I got treated to the Filipina hospitality that I’ve heard so much of 😊. I feel genuine appreciation from this establishment which is a rarity. This will be one of my favorite to visit.
Let me first say that the owner of this restaurant is just lovely and she really made my husband and I feel at home. We braved the snow to try Hapag Bistro and it was worth it. We shared the Lumpia Sampler; crispy and delicious with a perfect sweet chili sauce for dipping. Yum! I had the Pork Sisig with garlic rice and savored every bite. My husband had the Chicken Sisig and fancied it so much he can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Give Hapag Bistro a try. We are so glad we did!
I travelled an hour to try this with my Lola and Lolo and so glad we did. Has a home and welcoming atmosphere. The food was great. We got the Lumpia, Pork Sig Sig, Chicken Adobo, Hapag Sampler, Pancit and Lechon. The Lechon was definitely the highlight but still loved everything and will be coming back.
Hapag is a treasure! The lechon kawali was crispy and tasty. The sisig was sizzling and flavorful. The halo halo was one of the best I’ve tried in the USA! The restaurant has a quaint and artsy atmosphere. The service was great. We loved chatting with the owner Cecilia! We will definitely be back with our kids. I wish you had a location in Connecticut.
Hapag Bistro is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, the space felt genuinely inviting and the service was incredibly warm and friendly. The food was packed with flavor across the board. Our party of four ordered the Hapag Platter, which was more than enough for everyone (seriously generous portions) and still sent us home happily with leftovers. And the house made halo-halo? Pure perfection. The ideal sweet ending to an already fantastic meal. Can’t wait to come back. This place nails both comfort and quality. Highly recommend!
Hapag Bistro is a gem! I’ve heard so many incredible things about this place, but since I live about 45 minutes away, it’s been patiently sitting on my "to-try" list for a while. Today, I found myself in the area and decided to grab takeout for my friend and me. It was very much worth the wait! The food was absolutely amazing. We went for classic favorites to share family-style: chicken adobo, pork sisig, and the Hapag sampler...and honestly, I couldn’t pick a favorite! Each dish was a delight. Pick-up was a breeze too! I ordered online, and when I arrived, I was greeted by name, which made me feel so appreciated. Even though it was my first time, they made me feel right at home. I honestly can’t recommend Hapag Bistro enough. Definitely one of my new Hudson Valley faves!
I loved the food here. I got the Hapag Platter(?) I think it was called which had crispy pata, garlic rice, pancit, eggplant, two kinds of egg rolls (vegetable and pork or chicken, i forgot), and at least one other thing I forgot. Its a platter meant for two and was around 74 dollars but in reality it was like a platter for four. It was so much good, took the rest home and ate the leftovers for the next two days with my housemates and girlfriend. 10/10 would recommend
Five stars is not enough for this place. This felt about as authentic as you can get. The food was sooooo good. I’ve already had a few friends ask where this place is and they want to check it out. I was working down the street and I’ve been on a Filipino kick lately. So this stood out. I’ll go out of my way to come back here.
Came for lunch before driving back after a long weekend in Catskill. So happy we did! Since the restaurant only seats 22 people, reservations recommended. This is a no frills family owned Filipino restaurant. Loved: Lumpia sampler (wished the veggie one wasn't so oily but everything was tasty.) Chicken adobo with garlic rice )chicken was falling off the bones and so delicious) Pork Siggs (mix of crispy skin pork, peppers, onions, and scallions were so flavorful) Halo Halo (An beautiful dessert to get for hot days. Shaved ice with Ube syrup, coconut ice cream, jelly, and red beans. Just wished their ice was more shaved.) The following dishes were too dry for my liking: Fish siggs and Beef. Family friendly place except for the bathroom (small and therefore no room to have a baby changing table). Overall a gem for this area bringing authentic and rich flavors!
Wonderful Filipino food and atmosphere and staff! Our waitress took good care of us! She was super Nice and personable! We ate outside and enjoyed delicious, authentic lumpia, pancit, two other vegetarians dishes and taron! All fresh and hot. Parking was great-right out front (1-hour parking) no hassles. We’ll be back! Two happy customers in Albany,NY!
Me and my family went yesterday and everything was amazing from the time we came in until we left. The lumpia was delicious, the pancit was perfect and the cheesecake with ube jam was something I’ve never experienced before!! They even made puto for us, something I haven’t had since I was a child. It was a nostalgic visit ,brought back a lot of childhood memories with the food, reminded me of my mothers cooking!!! Great job Hapág!!! We will definitely be back!!!
Wow - a truly wonderful surprise in Highland! My brother and I stopped by for dinner recently and were blown away by how good this place is. We ordered a phenomenal sizzling fish and pork over rice, both were delicious. The owner is also wonderful and welcoming - it feels like having dinner with family. Whether you live nearby or are just passing through the area, Hapag is really worth stopping by for a special and delicious meal. Apparently they'll also do a special platter style shared dinner if you have a party larger than 5 - hopefully we'll get to try that someday!
Amazing Filipino food! I'm not a local and I would totally drive up here to get authentic, flavorful Filipino food! We came here as a big group so we had the opportunity to try all different types of dishes and they were ALL delicious and full of flavor! We ordered the chicken adobo and pork adobo, lechon, pancit canton, palabok, chicken BBQ, tocino, garlic fried rice, and mango float. The owner, Cecilia, is super friendly and accommodating as she's able to answer any questions we had and helped us pre-order the food even before we got to the restaurant. Hapag has such an inviting ambiance and the decor reminds me of being at home in the Philippines. I loved the simple touches like the tropical-like napkins. I live in NYC where there are a lot of Filipino restaurants and I can say this is definitely one of the best I've had! Come up to Highland and you will surely want to come back!
It is great to have unique restaurants that are around to try. This place was recommended and the food was beyond great! Their combo of rice and egg noodles dish was delicious, fresh ingredients and can feed easily 2 people. All their portions are definitely easy enough to share with other. The fried pork sizzling platter was crispy and had such great flavor. Some of their main dishes don't come with rice- highly recommend getting their garlic rice to pair with any protein dish. Their desserts can also be shared and are not too sweet and carry hints if unique citrus or Filipino flavors. Will definitely be back to try other dishes!
The food was very good, and some of the choices were even great. The noodles with fish were my favorite. Most of it reheated really well at home, and I preferred the flavor after trimming the fat from the meat chunks. The service was slow and a bit absent, but very friendly. I would like to try their kamayan feast.
Excellent food but do not try to make a reservation online on Resy or any other platforms - they do not actually take online reservations!!! I was coming in from out of town and had a reservation for 7:30 p.m. my train ended up coming in earlier so I changed the reservation to 6:30. When I arrived I told them the name of the reservation was under they were not able to find it. They asked me if I had made a reservation online and I said yes and they said oh you shouldn't have done that because we don't look at those. My companion and I ordered and the food came out promptly. It was all hot and fresh and well-made and delicious. We got the lumpia rolls and pork and fish sisig dishes. Everything was soooo good and the portions were huge. The dessert menu also looked really good but unfortunately they were out of basically everything so we were not able to order. We got to around 7:30 p.m. and another couple of people came in saying that they had a reservation for 7:30 but the server told them that they did not take reservations online and that they had no record of their reservation and that actually the restaurant was about to close so they did not seat them. I guess I am glad that I ended up showing up early or I would not have been able to eat here... The overall ambiance is very authentic in that it's kind of a hodgepodge type place that feels very much like being in Asia. Docked points just for the sheer chaos and unprofessionalism of the reservation system. And for listing dessert menu items that weren't available.
We came for lunch, which I know is a busy time and the place is pretty small. I went inside to check if there were any open tables, but there weren’t. I asked if they had a waitlist, but they don’t, so we had no idea how long the wait would be. We ended up standing outside in the cold because the server simply told us to wait, with no names taken and no estimate times. When I asked again, all I got was, “You have to wait,” which was frustrating. After about an hour of waiting with no update, I finally went back inside to check again. A table happened to be open, so I basically had to seat myself. I get that peak hours can get hectic, and we actually drove hours just to try their food, but a little organization would’ve made the experience so much better. Even just a time range or a simple list would’ve helped. The food itself was amazing. SISIG is definitely worth recommending. The service was not great, but it honestly doesn’t take away from how good the food is. I really hope they improve their system because the food deserves better service to match it.
The staff were really friendly and accommodating, and the service was quick! We ordered sisig since it’s our favorite Filipino dish, but sadly it didn’t taste like authentic sisig. It was more like fried pork that was just placed on a sizzling plate to make it appear like sisig. The usual flavors and textures were missing, and there were too many bell peppers. On a positive note, the dessert was really good and ended the meal nicely!
