Everything was really good. Our server did a good job with a big party.
Great food, exceptional service. Bob, you're #awesome Legal never disappoints 😎
As always an amazing meal. Started off with the Deviled eggs with an Irish stout. Then a mug of finest lobster bisque. For the main dish thier signature Crabcake, grilled shrimp and scallops. Finally finished up with the Strawberry Shortcake. FABULOUS ALL AROUND!
Try the bang bang cauliflower, it is DELICIOUS. Had Darrell at the bar who was great with drinks, conversation, and suggestions! Definitely check them out
We went there for office Holiday Gathering and the place was amazing. Great food and awesome service
Been coming here for years, always a great take! Gluten Free Menu is awesome! Came by at the end of January and was blown away by the remodel that had just happened. Much more open and bright! Food, drinks and service are all exceptional. Always happy when I come here - well worth the money! This last visit we had appetizers, drinks and a entree. Unfortunately the entree picts were not taken, my mistake. We both had the fish and chips - one gluten-free, one regular! Can't wait to be back!
Had a wonderful experience at this establishment. Our server/bartender Michelle, was extremely helpful in our choices. Seafood amazing! Clam chowder delicious! First time having short neck clams....YUM and the crab cake is prepared the way they are meant to be! Thank you Michelle C.!!!!
Smiling server, Victoria, was prompt & efficient! We enjoyed our lunch, including a healthy quinoa salad w/ grilled salmon & a Legal lunch combo as shown in the pics - highly recommend!
Burton's was closed on a quiet Tuesday afternoon and my rich mother was paying, so we skirted on over to Legal Sea Foods. We shared the fried scallop and fried clam plates, and I got a Castle Island Keeper. Because Burton's was closed, it was very busy and assuredly, the kitchen staff that was used to a more modest crowd during this shift was overwhelmed, which explains the longer than usual wait times for the food. The bartender, a certified veteran, was also up against it, as he was tending a full bar by himself, but maintained his poise. The moral of the story is that Legal Sea Foods handled what could have been sudden chaos with aplomb. Moreover, my mother commented that the clam strips were some of the best she ever had. I wouldn't be able to afford this place on my own and would have to steer clear, but if my mother's fat paychecks keep rolling in, I'll be able to enjoy places like this and others. If you are in the area, and have to eat, there really is nothing cheap so you're going to have to bite the bullet
Legal Seafood should be illegal because of how good the seafood is. It's one of the best seafood chains! Lobster, Crap and fresh fish. My wife wanted a lobster roll. Well, she got one big one. The service was top-notch. Timely bread and bread. The server was tentive but not intrusive.
Really good food ! It's better than most chain restaurants because everything is so fresh. And because I'm gluten intolerant, I loved that there were many gluten-free dishes on the menu, and they were clearly identified. I tried the oysters, which were amazing. I then tried a dish off their test kitchen options: salt crusted cod (so tasty 😋). I highly recommend this place for seafood lovers.
A great restaurant just got better. I usually have the Red Dragon sushi roll, because the sushi chef is excellent and will modify it to your specs. But this time I got the Mediterranean Swordfish, but asked them to swap in cod instead. No problem. Fantastic dish. Took some home and ate it cold out of the fridge next day. It was that good. The bar is huge and the bartenders are super friendly. If you like shrimp, the shrimp cocktail is exactly as you would imagine.
Awesome service, the staff was phenomenal, we made friends there, will definitely have dinner there again.
Overall Great experience but parking can be a pain in the as there share there lot with all of derby street shops
This place is a hot mess ! Made a reservation for Sunday at 730pm and arrived and sat at bar waiting for my party to arrive. Bartender was unfriendly and the bar and menus were dirty and pages stapled together. Got our table to be told the kitchen closes at 8pm. We order our food and drink to speed the process up but it just went downhill from here. Chowder was cold, sushi was missing wasabi, and at 815 pm when we asked to order another drink we were told NO they could provide water. When the check was dropped at 835pm the waitress laughed and said I would have offered desert but everyone left and there is no one here to make it. It is 835pm on a Sunday night NOT 10pm. Why take a reservation at 730 if they don’t want the business. They clearly need the business the place was empty while Burtons and Bar Taco were packed! They need to either get it together or close up shop. Update After speaking with the manager I wanted to give this Legal another chance! This time it as a great experience from service to food and we felt very welcoming! I understand some places have bad nights so I wanted to give another change and will definitely go back the sushi was amazing !
My favorite place to eat. Excellent service and the food is delicious. I always go on my birthday. Try the naked stuffed lobster, Amazing
We were a party of 4 who had dinner on Friday, January 19. While I have seen a number of poor reviews, we still wanted to try it….we use to go to the C but this was our 1st time at the renovated Legals. We fount everything to be very good. The experience was excellent. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken soon after we were seated. We ordered 4 different entrees and they were all excellent. The deserts were also excellent. It was a bit noisy but we were in a both and it didn’t really bother us. Our waitress, Kelce, was very pleasant and attentive throughout the entire meal. We will all definitely return! 😊
Legal’s food is never a surprise; always good, but the service we’ve gotten there twice now is just phenomenal & worth a review. Same bartenders both times … Carly & Michelle. A perfect pair behind the bar! Service, suggestions & personality are 100% on point. If you’re lucky enough to wander in on their shift you’re lucky enough.
We ate here for the first time (at this location) tonight and loved it! It’s a smaller legal sea foods and the quality of the food is very good. Service was exceptional. I’d like to take a moment to thank our waitress Emma M who was very welcoming from the moment we walked in. We had a reservation since we weren’t sure how busy it would be, and she sat us early despite being there 20 mins ahead of schedule. Everything was prompt. Thank you! We will return.
Awesome dining experience. Bob was our guy! He took care of us in a friendly, professional, and at times in a humorous way. The ambiance was true “Legal” with couples and families out for an awesome night. I had the Fried Clams - “Delish” - hot and fresh. My wife had Scallops with street corn and she loved it. Oops, the Shrimp Cocktail was fantastic - fresh, tasty, and cold! Watch the horse radish. My eyes were watering. I mixed too much in. Great night all around! Unfortunately, the food was so good, we didn’t make time for photos.
Wedding rehearsal dinner. Service was wonderful and staff was very easy to work with when planning.
The food was excellent. They have their own ships for the lobsters/fish/scallops.The service was superb. Jennifer, our server, was knowledgeable, helpful, and made great suggestions.
It was nice. I have eaten there many times. This time was good too. I ate crab cake and my husband ate sushi. Booth liked it.
Great spot with an extensive seafood centric menu. The Hamachi Crudo is fantastic!
Anticipating getting dinner after Christmas shopping at the Derby Shoppes. Made reservations at Legals. Reservations are a must in all of the restaurants around the Derby Shoppes as well as any Legals Restaurants. Sat on time. Service was excellent. Attentive, friendly, polite and professional. Food was delicious and delicious. The only quirks I have are the chowder was lukewarm and the food servers literally dropped the dishes on the table rather than place them as appropriately in front of the right diners. Also, dropping French fries from our orders onto the floor and not cleaning up after. Afraid that the French fries on the floor could be a hazard and an accident waiting to happen, I picked up the fries off the floor so that nobody will slip on them. However, will definitely return to try other items on the menu.
This location is nice, clean, newer and not super busy. A nice go-to for dining out and can be great for date night or a family dinner. Legal Seafood is my kids’ favorite so we dine here quite a bit so we like trying different locations just to change it up a bit. My first time at this location and I would come back again! I like that it’s in a large plaza with plenty of parking.
I loved the service. We went on a Monday with no reservation during lunch time and it was great. Not much people and we were able to eat. The host attended us right away and the waiter too. Also, the host seated us on our preferred table. The food was good and some apps are very innovative.
Best chowder in town. Enjoyed a full range of food at our legal visit. Started with the clam chowder, which was delicious. Also tried the shrimp tempura sushi and the burger. Sushi was decent, and the burgers were great. Also came with the best steak fries I have had in a while. Definitely didn't skimp on the aperol in my spritz. Looking forward to our next visit, especially with such an extensive menu.
Got the fisherman's platter. Everything was super fresh and a huge portion. The Old Fashion was fantastic. The waiter was pretty inattentive to our party unfortunately
Ordered the lobster Sushi rolls and it stole the show. The roll itself is big and difficult to down in 1 gulp but I'm glad they made it big, definitely worth it! Fries and the lobster roll is also an excellent choice because the lobster roll is the biggest I've seen! Street Corn was not delicious and a bit on the dry side. Needs some more work on that dish but everything else slaps 👏🏾
The food is always delicious and they allow me to share a plate on which they add extra vegetables which makes a senior serving.
We recently dined at Legal Sea Foods in Hingham and had an overall enjoyable experience, but there were a few notable hiccups that I feel are worth mentioning. First, the restaurant was clearly short-staffed, and we appreciated the hard work of the team, doing their best to keep things moving smoothly. We were patient with the delays and understood the situation, but one aspect of the meal was a bit frustrating—the lack of timing when it came to the pacing of our courses. We placed our entire order at once, and within five minutes, we were served our appetizers. However, shortly after, we were brought our salads, and then, around 10 minutes later, our main courses arrived. The result? Our table was crowded with different courses all at once—appetizers, salads, and entrees all sitting there, making it difficult to enjoy the meal in a more traditional, relaxed order. While we understand that things can get hectic during busy times, especially when staff numbers are limited, the lack of coordination in timing was a bit disruptive. Based on this experience, I’d highly recommend placing your order for food as you need it rather than relying on the kitchen or servers to manage the flow of the meal. Despite this, the food itself was excellent, and the quality of the seafood, as always, lived up to Legal’s reputation. I’d still recommend the restaurant, but perhaps with the understanding that you may need to advocate for a more measured approach to course delivery, especially if the restaurant is busy. In summary: great food, but be prepared for potential timing issues if the restaurant is understaffed. Patience is key!
Our server was very nice and polite, very punctual. Food was good. Family members did not have a complaint. Everything was cooked perfectly. We were there for my mother's birthday.
We had lunch here service was a little slow but food was very good as usual for legals
Not bad, but the food/fish is not like it use to be. The seared tuna was OK, but not as fresh as it needs to be. Martini was good, as well as the service; however, the atmosphere is too bright and open for me.
Ordered the shrimp scampi pasta online for pick up, quick and easy. Flavor was amazing, only downside is that the takeout portion is NOT the same size as the dine in version and they sell for the same price. (Picture of the take out size) I have never been able to finish the plate at the restaurant. I was still hungry after this meal! Thankfully they did add some rolls on the side. Will probably avoid ordering this for take out again.
The two ladies who were standing in the front didn’t seem too happy to be there. There was no proper greeting. Immediately said 45 minute wait although the restaurant was not packed. But realized suddenly we had a reservation. The waitress didn’t give I want to be here energy. She was not attentive. She asked if we wanted the bread, but never brought it over. Not a huge deal since we were expecting our food but next time just don’t ask. The clam chowder was perfect and the clam belly’s. The French fries were soft, and didn’t taste fresh. I just think the overall experience didn’t make me feel welcome. My husband says his yellow fin tuna was good. The kids mostly played with their food. They have quite a bit of options for kids.
Legal Seafood is one of my favorite restaurants. I think the food is great and they have a good wine list. There’s a couple of things about this particular location that i wish were better. My wife and I like to sit at the bar and the bartenders, for the most part, have been consistently congenial and friendly in Hingham. The last year, however, the place doesn’t feel as welcoming. Not unfriendly but more like the people working there aren’t enjoying their jobs. And not everyone, but some. Enough to effect the experience. The other issue, which admittedly is a nit pick, is indicative of the aforementioned observation. The issue is with a particular special recently. The special was a fish and chips deal for every Friday in November. I love fish and chips, and especially at Legal’s, so my wife and I planned to go right after work every Friday in November. The first Friday the bartender wasn’t sure if the special was for lunch or at all times but gave it to us. I checked the advertisement and there was no mention of limitations, so we went again the following Friday. Same experience except this time the bartender inquired with the manager. We got the discount, but honestly it was off putting. The next two Fridays we went to the Legal’s in Braintree to avoid the drama and both times we were offered the special! The service was more friendly and welcoming too - which is what I am used to. Please Hingham Legal Seafood, get back to the standard that Braintree and other Legal’s locations are providing, and what my wife and I are used to experiencing at your location.
We had lunch here on Thursday. The atmosphere is cute, but the experience was mediocre. The fried fish (& chips) was really dry. The lobster bisque was more soup like than bisque, and my fish tacos were lacking flavor. The fries and shrimp cocktail were both good. I have been to many locations over the years, and this did not meet the high standards that Legal Seafood once represented.
We went during Restaurant week. There were only a few tables. We had clams, salmon filled, lobster, clam chowder and other food. Overall, it was sad to say the least. I have been a big fan of Legal's for more than 30 years. The food was ok which at their price point and reputation should not be just "ok." Historically speaking Restaurant week should be busy and the food at its best, but the clams seemed not to be fresh. The lobster was not fully hot, and the clam chowder of all things was not top notch.
Requested a high top, but was seated at a table in the middle of the dining room. I would have waited past the reservation time for a high top but we weren't asked. It is evident that this is more of the former Legal C Bar style locations - family friendly (screaming children, very casual dress) and bright lights. Everyone was dressed like they were going bowling - I expected more of the standard Legal Sea Foods vibe. Fish was good as always but service was pretty lackluster and overall experience was far from what I anticipated. Will stick with visiting the city locations in the future - far too casual for the price.
This is definitely not the Legal standard I know. I’ve been going to Legals for over 20 years and it’s clear since they’ve changed management companies, their menus changed as well as food quality— what happened to classic dishes like sole, seafood casserole, etc. We spent $250+ on dinner and they served my husband mashed potatoes that I swear were made from a box. And we were here on a Friday night the restaurant was empty and that speaks volumes. Definitely a shame, because this place was better before the renovation. Will likely not return and I doubt this location will remain open.
My wife and I have no problem spending $40-$80 per plate for dinner. The problem here is that I expect the kitchen staff to put a little effort into the preparation and presentation, and not take a bong hit before reading the kitchen instruction book on how to make what is on the menu. For starters, got seated quickly on a relatively slow night, and waited 5-10 minutes to get a club soda with cranberry juice. After that the server disappeared for 10-15 minutes before taking order for appetizers. Again disappeared for long periods of time before refilling glasses. All in all food quality and service was disappointing considering what was spent. Won’t be returning.
Dined with my wife on Saturday evening June 23rd. The restaurant was maybe 10% full (see picture). It seemed fully staffed though. It took 30 minutes to get an appetizer and another 20 minutes (after inquiring with the check-in desk) where our food was. The people at the front desk were basically just hanging out on chairs for customers to wait at and were on their phones. No one was sitting at the bar. No one checked in with us, removed our appetizer plates or even thought to say “hey, sorry, it’s taking longer than expected.” We felt awkward sitting in there like we were part of some sketch comedy bit. In fact, when I got up (yes, got up) to find our server she said that the delay was because “they wanted to make sure the tuna burger was cooked through.” I’m sorry, what? What’s happening back in the kitchen? Again, empty restaurant. It maybe takes 5 minutes max to cook the tuna burger. AND….my wife’s dish was a poke bowl (raw!). Truly a regrettable experience. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Good luck Legal Hingham!
We have given this restaurant so many chances. When it was Legal C, we had some meals years ago that were decent. It was fun to sit at the bar, have a drink and appetizers. Then the food and service went totally downhill. Paying premium prices for subpar food time after time. My husband insisted that we go again this year for his birthday. We had a party of eight people, including some children. Upon walking in it felt like it was a bar at closing time when they are trying to get people out. The lights are super bright and it feels like a cafeteria service was horrendous. The table was a mess, really never cleaned off properly. The food arrived without the proper condiments and was not tasty. I couldn’t wait to get out. For these prices and this location it should be much better. Won’t go again.
I went in with my family and by the grace of God heard a lady next to us when we where about to be seated say "It smells like ammonia " As soon as I heard that I told my family when I sat down. As we were about to leave, I asked the lady if the fish smelled funny and she said yes. We hauled it out of there. So long story short the fish smelled like ammonia.
Horrible service. Took a 9 year old to lunch who ordered pasta w butter. The butter came in a metal side dish that she picked up and immediately dropped it because it was so hot. Hot butter all over her and table. Asked the waitress for more napkins and some help she walked away flustered. We cleaned up the mess and took napkins from a set table. My meal was not what I ordered. Kids meal didn’t come with the sides ordered missing 1 side. When we left I let the hostess know about the hot butter and she said that’s all they have for holding sides. Never been disappointed here before but not coming back or recommending
Ordered to go and they put spicy mayo on my sushi which I requested they didn’t. It’s too late for me to get a replacement and I can’t eat it.
Sooo Bad!! I eat at the Chestnut Hill and Back Bay locations regularly which is why I am such a fan. Finding this location was a plus! I purchased my usual, the stuffed lobster tails, seafood platter and sides. I have not been so dissappointed in this franchise since eating at the Framingam location. The quality of the seafood was very subpar. The stuffing was terrible. The seafood platter was overcooked, the fish was dry and fries soggy.
We are regular customers to legal sea food in hingham Derby Street but tonight we have had very bad service the waiters were visibly on something(medicated) She was not able to serve us any food or drinks. Food came to us very cold and to make a payment we had to call a supervisor because she was no where to be found.
