Legif, 12/10. Quesabirras in point, great consume. Legit tamales. All salsas we tried were great. Delicious horchata, wish I had gotten the larger size. If you want a real authentic experience. This is the place.
Best homemade tamales in Houston! And they have a DRIVE-THRU WINDOW!!
Everything is always delicious here. Been coming here for years - the prices have gone up as they got more popular but still worth it. The tamales are some of the best in town. Breakfast on the weekend is usually packed but it’s a large place so seats open up decently quick.
I was really impressed with how quickly the line moved and how delicious the food was! I enjoyed a large menudo with all the fixings, a chicharron en salsa verde taco, and a carnitas in salsa verde taco. There are so many options, and I can’t wait to try them all in one day. I’ll definitely be back to explore more menu items and combinations. 😋
I ate tamales from here as a kid and young adult, I grew up in the area and these were always tamales we loved and often purchased. Recently a coworker brought some to work, they were excellent tamales, so I looked at the package to see where he got them. I turned to him and asked, if these was off Berry and Irvington Rd. He asked you know this place, I replied heck yes I’m was a north side boy. My comment to him was they were always great tamales, but obviously the next generation has even made them better, but not knocking the original family tamales. . Great tamales Alamo, hope you’re around forever, these were always a family tradition for us!😘
The tamales were very delicious and full of flavor. You can tell they’re made with care and quality ingredients. The employees were extremely nice, welcoming, and helpful, which made the experience even better. Great food and great service, I’ll definitely be coming back.
As a small-town girl who grew up in the kitchen making tamales from scratch, I don’t take tamales lightly. Alamo Tamales is a true Houston staple and my go-to spot every holiday season when I want authentic, traditional Mexican tamales that taste like home. The tamales are generously portioned, filling, and packed with rich, comforting flavor—all at a very reasonable price. You leave satisfied, not still hungry. The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which makes the experience even better. And don’t skip dessert—pairing tamales with buñuelos dusted in cinnamon and sugar is a classic Mexican tradition, and Alamo does it right. This place feels like home, and I already look forward
Hands down, the best tamales I’ve had! I came in not knowing what to expect but I was really impressed. There was a huge like but surprisingly it moved really quick and it made the experience way better. They’ve got the best tamales I’ve tasted, I downed 8 as soon as I got home! They’re irresistible. I highly recommend this place!
One of THE BEST gems in Houston. Everything from their tacos to tamales are fantastic. Food is delicious and not expensive, staff are friendly. Restaurant always clean. Don't get intimidated by wait lines. It always move fast.
From the outside it looks like any Mexican themed restaurant. Once inside it's a wonderland off food! Everywhere you look you see something you want to eat! I hate tamales. Usually, they have no meat and just taste like bland masa. But it's called Alamo Tamales so I ordered 6 of the homemade tamales vs the regular ones, and ate them all! This was the first time that has ever happened. My only regret is that I didn't order more food or some desert. If my least favorite dish has me wanting more I can't imagine how they prepare my favorite dishes!
Excelente comida en especial los tamales no puedo expresarles lo exquisitos que son ! Una total delicia

Best tamales in Houston. Our family tradition has always been handmade tamales on Christmas Eve. These are great and remind of the old days!!
Have tried only tamales here so far and they are not the best but we like them. My wife thinks tamales we have had in Houston were small-ish and dough was overly seasoned for her taste. Friendly staffers. Nice atmosphere. It is sort of cafeteria-style; want to try more of their offerings like tacos or empanadas. They have a bakery, too; it would be nice if more of the bakery foods were labelled, or maybe we just need to learn more about those offerings, ha.

Excellent food and pastries. I love the empandas. The prices are high, and the tamales are only ok and are expensive. Great salsa bar. Darling place, nice music and good service.
This location is nicely and traditionally decorated which was a pleasant surprise. There was a line but the wait was reasonable. The staff treated me nicely . I bought the 1/2 dozen frijoles tamales . And I picked out dessert from the bakery. Here is where I took off stars. My caramel Empanadas had something with the texture of paper inside of them. That was very disturbing because I feel I could have eaten some of whatever it is before realizing. The pecan cake I picked out however was good.
Love their tamales and prices not bad for a docena. They need to add more salsa or ask if you want more than 2. I did take more salsa but I didn't read the sign 😂 made me wonder why no tops thought they had ran out.Only thing that saved my barbacoa was the onion con chile from salsa bar. 3 stars cus staff was a bit rude sin ganas
Love this place, but today services were not on their game as normal. Food was dry, they need to let people look at things before saying place your order in line. Could not see what they had had to order online only told me about two types of tamales and they had more than six or seven choices chicharrones were dry, gorditos were flavorless and dry. I am hoping today was just a one-off as I've never had a problem here before today
3.3 stars. Stopped in to pick up some tamales. Prices were fair. Lots to choose from though. We ended up getting a half dozen sweet corn tamales which were okay. We also picked up a half dozen chicken tamales which were also standard. Friendly employees and well organized operation. Just not quite sure what the fuss and hype are about.
Coworkers always want to eat here for lunch. Food served quick due to it being pre-made and under heat lamps. Can get pretty busy with long line. Ladies behind counter seems to rush me when I need time to read the extensive menu or see what's on the line. Dislike the fact of only bottled drinks served instead of refillable fountain drinks. Ordered beef fajita tacos which were pretty good.

Took a long time to get food. Ladies didn't come out to help for awhile and the line was long. I was close to getting help and I still had to wait awhile. I used to eat their tamales long time ago and I felt they were worth it. I was so disappointed to taste these tamales. The chicken had no flavor. The masa tasted like it had been made a long time ago. I ordered cheese and jalapeño and the masa was mushy. Along long time ago they were good but anymore.
The quality of the food is satisfactory; however, the pricing appears excessive. I ordered a menudo, Chico, and found the portion considerably smaller than expected. The grande size did not align with the larger portions I am accustomed to. In conclusion, it seems that the establishment prioritizes profit over value. Some alternative venues provide comparable or superior cuisine at much more reasonable prices.
Usually the food here was fantastic, but I feel like in the last couple of trips it seems like the qualities getting worse and worse. I just went there today and I ordered two dozen I get home and they’re completely dried out. The meat is dried out or it’s old so I drove over 45 minutes to go pick this up and this is what I have to throw in the trash. It kind of upsets me because I have really fond memories of how good the food is here but it seems like it’s starting to go downhill. I take no pleasure in making reviews like this either, but I am highly disappointed on the amount of money that I pay versus what I get.

When I 1st started coming here I was really impressed with the number of items on the menu. The food was great.... here lately when I've come... the chicken tamales are so dry... you shouldn't have to buy sauce with your tamales... they should be moist tender and full of flavor... recently I spent nearly $100 and my chicken tamales were bad...like for real the last 3 times... you would think that I learned my lesson... saying to my self... maybe next time... but screw that... I am now looking for a new spot where the tamales don't crumble apart when you open them. The Jalepeno and Cheese ones were good... the chicken tamales recipe needs a do over...
I came here 3rd time 2 days ago for menudo and it was more disappointing. They fill up the cup with more stock and less beef tripes and chickpeas. They raise the price but food portion is less. The owner is getting stingy with food and greedy with the money!! And the flavor of the menudo is going down also. Not like they used to be.
Came here on Thursday morning and the barbacoa tastes nasty and had a lot oil dripping. Called them and the manager wanted me to bring it back so she can inspect it first and determine if I can get my money back. For them to be busy on the weekends they should refund then money back for their mistake.
We went to this restaurant for the first time and overall I wouldn’t return to this place. It was overcrowded and when ordering it was somewhat chaotic, we stood for a while and had several workers helping us with our order. Since we were new we weren’t sure what to order since we didn’t know what food was up ahead. There were quite a bit of people ahead of us. Several workers took our orders but we waited about a minute or two in between each worker to help us. After ordering and paying, we sat down to eat and I discovered my taco was extremely greasy my tortilla was soaked in grease and made it impossible to eat in a taco. I spoke to a manager if I could have another tortilla as I did not feel comfortable eating a soaked tortilla. She said I would have to pay to receive another tortilla. I let her know that I was not aware the taco would soak up that much grease, she insisted that I purchase another tortilla , which meant I had to stand in line that was up to the bakery entrance to buy another tortilla. My family spent a good $70 to buy breakfast I believe I could have been given another tortilla to compensate my overly greased taco. Customer service needs to be reevaluated at this place of business. We will no longer be spending our money at this restaurant.
