My husband and I had a great time. We dined outside. They had outside heaters so it was perfect. We tried their bisque de homard, their risotto, the coq au vin, and the filet de boeuf au poivre. For desert we had creme brulé, and the tarte au pomme. Everything was so tasty. Service was great. We had 2 cocktails but we did not like them. We'll definitely be back!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Étoile Cuisine et Bar, a restaurant I’ve wanted to visit for quite some time. I finally decided to go for lunch, and I’m so glad I did. The French cuisine, ambiance, and service were all exceptional. My waiter, Jesus, was very patient, kind, and offered excellent recommendations. I chose the business lunch, which is a wonderful way to enjoy a variety of the restaurant’s best offerings. I highly recommend the lobster bisque, the Sole à la Plancha, and the sherry peach cocktail — each dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. I sat on the patio since it was a beautiful day, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I truly enjoyed myself and will definitely be returning!
This was our first visit as a recommendation from a French friend when we asked for his guidance on a good French restaurant. We were not disappointed. Our waiter ("Deedee", may not be the correct spelling) was excellent - friendly, helpful, attentive. We definitely recommend him. The menu was excellent with classic dishes and we loved all that we ate: sole amandine, cassoulet, roasted duck breast, not to mention the foie gras and bisque starters. We liked the size of the place (not too large), they have a great bar, and we also had some nice wine and sparking to toast with our desserts (we were celebrating a birthday). I really found nothing to complain about. We WILL be back.
Met a friend for lunch last week and was only disappointed by the fact I haven’t enjoyed this restaurant more often!!! I chose from the prefix lunch menu selecting the cream mushroom soup and the mushroom ravioli…WOW - very tasty, sophisticated and perfectly prepared!! Our waiter was very attentive as well. It is a very refined experience, perfect for visiting with friends as there are no distractions - just well prepared food offered with genuine hospitality! I promise to put this place on my “frequent” list for 2026!!
This was our 2nd time eating at Etoile Cuisine. We had New Year's dinner here in 2024 which was superb and had lunch today which was simply excellent. Etoile is a small place with great atmosphere and experienced, professional wait staff. The menu includes a range of traditional French dishes as well as new and special dishes that usually include meatless choices. My wife had the fresh catch which was a redfish that was perfectly prepared with a carrot-orange coulis and greens and I had a traditional duck confit which was excellent and served with salad greens and finger potatoes and a cognac sauce. Crispy skin with moist, tender duck - excellent. We finished with an apple tartine and coffee. Our waiter was impeccable. This is our favorite hidden gem in the Galleria area.
Their beef bourguignon was amazing. And their filet mignon was perfectly cooked. Coming home from Paris we had a hard time finding a good french restauraunt and this place was the best we tried in Houston!
Going back in time. Love this place. We make the trip to the end of the Hwy 45 to simply have dinner at this sparkle ! Very traditional fine dining setting with retro decor. Not a large space , but very well laid out with sufficient room and tables in set for 2 /4/6/8 to sit comfortably on the back wall. Service is always at your call for bread , tap and plate rotation. Heavy silverware, polished glassware and fine china! About the food. Well if driving 4 hours for dinner does not tell you something , then you need to go try it out. If you are closer than me , you have no excuses. My only guideline for a French place is a Foix Gras in any form or shape or execution. Pan fried , cold pate, chopped in a pasta dish. But if it is not part of the menu, I can have a sandwich somewhere else. Dress up , do your manicures and treat yourself to a fine French cuisine. Chef will come out and say hello! Surprisingly for a Frenchman he is a nice garçon! See you at Etoile.
I had a lunch meeting at Étoile, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The menu offers a wide and impressive selection, with something to satisfy every palate. The wait staff was not only professional and attentive but also impressively knowledgeable about the menu—they provided thoughtful recommendations that really enhanced our meal. A special touch was when the chef personally came to our table to introduce himself, which made the experience feel even more personalized and welcoming. The ambiance is refined yet comfortable, with elegant decor and a beautifully stocked bar featuring a great selection of top-shelf spirits. I highly recommend Étoile to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. If you haven't been yet, definitely add it to your list—you won’t be disappointed.
Absolutely loved! Our favorite place out of all of the ones we tried for Houston Restaurant Weeks. The escargot and lobster bisque were wonderful. The steak was cooked very well. The risotto was delicious and hearty. And the pistachio merengue dessert had me scraping the bottom of the bowl!
Parking in this center is impossible; valet is a given. The restaurant itself has nice, intimate ambiance. The staff was very friendly and quickly prepared our table for us. We made a modification to increase the party size from 2 to 3 on the day of during a very busy Valentine’s weekend, so I’m happy they worked that out for us. The food is generously portioned and delicious. The offmenu special item lamb rack is very memorable… 🤤 Escargot and tartare de bœuf as appetizers were great!! All other entrees were good, but I think the lamb I had was the best.
So glad to make it back in for the lunch hour, whether at noon or after dark the service is always top shelf here. We were all craving one of their delicious soups on a rare chilly day around here, and the onion soup and lobster bisque were both spot on. They have a well rounded and not too large menu which I prefer, and their quality of ingredients and presentation are on par w the price point. I want to try their Coq Au Vin next time to see how it compares to our family recipe… i saw it on another table and it looked great. Love the high ceilings and the not too big dining spaces for the more intimate feel at night, and not too noisy room for a classy business meal at noontime. Explore and enjoy!
This was my first time at Etoile Cuisine and Bar, and I was thoroughly impressed! The staff was incredibly professional and polite, making me feel welcome from the moment I stepped in. I decided to try their brunch menu, and it was an absolute delight. The dishes were not only exceptionally tasty but also beautifully presented, showcasing the chef's attention to detail. The ambiance of the restaurant was truly delightful, creating a perfect setting for a leisurely brunch. I highly recommend Etoile Cuisine and Bar for brunch. The combination of delicious food, impeccable service, and a lovely atmosphere made it a truly memorable experience. I can't wait to return to try their lunch and dinner offerings.
Etoile et Bar in Uptown Park is easily my top choice for French dining in Houston. For the past 10 years, I’ve made it a point to visit during Houston Restaurant Months, and they’ve never let me down. The food is consistently fresh, creatively displayed, and comes in generous portions. Their Houston Restaurant Month menu stands out for its consistency and value, particularly the incredible deal where you can add a fantastic dessert for just four dollars during lunch—a steal that’s hard to find elsewhere in Houston. One of the highlights for me is their beef tartare, which I order regularly. Occasionally, the fish can be slightly dry, but it’s a minor issue in the grand scheme of their offerings. Desserts are a must-have, whether during Restaurant Months or any other time. The regular menu is equally impressive, with the duck being a standout. The wine list and appetizers offer so many amazing options that it’s hard to choose just one to mention. Whether you’re there for lunch or dinner, Etoile et Bar consistently delivers fresh, flavorful food in great portions, catering to all ages. It’s a place I highly recommend, and knowing that they also donate to the Houston Food Bank makes the experience even more rewarding.
Very nice restaurant with lovely decor and romantic atmosphere. I loved their Lobster bisque and Bouef Bourguignon was very delicious. My wife enjoyed her Chillian seabass. The only complaint was the service. For such a small restaurant, our server was extremely slow all night and we had to wave him down several times just to get our bill so we could pay and leave.
Wonderful service & atmosphere. The lobster bisque is always a hit and this place has some of the best bread & butter in town. However, the sole I got was really oily and was not seasoned. French food tends to be conservative with spices and it’s hard not to wish my plate had a little more flavor. But overall Étoile has always been a nice dining experience and I’ll definitely be back. ❤️
Here for HRW brunch with a friend. For the first course, we tried the escargot and avocado toast; the escargot leaned a bit salty for my taste, while the avocado toast was on the sour side but overall decent. The standout was definitely the second course—the coq au vin with tender, juicy chicken thigh, and the summer vegetable risotto was nicely balanced with truffle notes and a refreshing touch from the vegetables. Both were seasoned perfectly. We finished with the pistachio custard (+$4), which ended up being a bit too sweet for us. Overall, we had a great experience with excellent service.
This is my favorite French restaurant in town. Dishes are traditional to French cooking. I started with the moules a la creme. The mussels were clean and didn’t carry that dirty beach smell unlike some restaurants do. I was impressed that they maintained clean fresh mussels. The flesh was plump and moist and the cream sauce delicious. Next time I would ask for bread to dip and finish the sauce. My wife had the duck breast which was done perfectly. I tasted the seared food gras which is always good. Smokey and buttery is how I would describe the taste. I had the $82 sole dovres which is flown in from Dover, England. It was cooked as a some meunière which is a lemon butter sauce. The sauce was on point but I didn’t think there was anything special about the sole. If I tasted it blind I wouldn’t know the difference between the sole or another decent white fish. $82 is too much and I wouldn’t order this again. The panna cotta was tasty with the crunchy bits and berries. I jut wished there was more of the cream. Overall it was a good experience and I’d return here to try something new.
We had high expectation because of the good reviews, but were a bit disappointed. Atmosphere was good, starters and desserts were good, but the steak (which is the most expensive course) was disappointing. My friend requested it to be served medium rare, but it's more like medium or well done. We complained about the steak and requested for a replacement. We did get a replacement after a long wait. but after that we felt that we were completely neglected by the staff.
I really wanted to like this place, especially since I usually love mussels. Unfortunately, my recent visit was far from enjoyable. To start, even though it was only 5 PM on a Monday and the restaurant was mostly empty, we were seated in a spot with harsh direct sunlight—despite many other open tables available. It was an uncomfortable beginning. We started off fine—the appetizers were good, and the staff was quick to change plates and cutlery. But things went downhill with the main course. We ordered the large portion of green mussels, and they were extremely fishy. Even as someone who tolerates fishiness well, I couldn't eat them. My friend, who is pregnant, was especially sensitive to the strong smell and couldn’t touch it at all. When we told the staff, they seemed annoyed and insisted that “green mussels are supposed to be like that.” We disagreed, and they immediately took the dish away, including our plates, folks, and my friend’s knife. To make matters worse, the service became incredibly inattentive. Our servers were often chatting among themselves or with other guests, ignoring our table for long periods. At one point, after our mussels were taken away, we were left with no plates or cutlery, staring at our cooling duck dish without being able to eat it. When we finally got our next dish, we had to repeatedly ask for plates and forks. It took multiple requests and long waits just to get basic dining tools. The duck—which was really delicious when hot—became unpleasantly fishy and unappetizing once it cooled down. My friend couldn’t eat it, so I finished it, but it really wasn’t enjoyable. It’s a shame because most of the dishes (like the duck and onion soup) were really good, but the inconsistent service, poorly executed seafood, and lack of attention to basic comfort really let us down. We won’t be returning.
UPDATE--Today I stopped in for an early supper with a girlfriend, and the restaurant was completely empty except for the two of us. Despite the open space, we were seated at a small two-top. I politely asked if we could move to a larger table, but they refused. I also ordered the beef bourguignon, which was disappointing. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.
