Yum 😋 good food, good portions, great service, nice dining. Hot soup & tea on the house 🫶🏼. Great menu! Highly recommend 👍🏼👍🏼!
this place is great if you want a quick order of sushi or noddles and rice. the service was fast and the people working were all very nice. im not from houston and im so glad that i found this place i will definitely be coming back
Awesome place for Japanese classics. The sushi is always very fresh. Great portions and affordable prices. I would definitely recommend Hokkaido to anyone looking for a casual sushi restaurant with exceptional quality.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must-try spot! This has officially become one of our favorite places to eat. If you’re looking for high-quality Japanese food that is actually affordable, you have to come here. The sushi tastes incredibly fresh and high-end, but the real star for us was the beef sukiyaki—it is so flavorful and comforting. We keep coming back because it’s consistently delicious. Highly recommend!
I've been regularly visiting Hokkaido since late 2025, and I have yet to receive less than excellent service! The food is always delicious, and the entire staff is incredibly kind and efficient. As long as I'm in Houston, I'll keep stopping by!
The food is affordable and delicious. The owner is also very nice and was so accommodating when we needed help with our car situation. It's just a great go to when you need good red bean soup and a nice Japanese meal without hurting your wallet.
My mother-in-law and I ate here 2 straight days in a row because it was so good. The sushi was very tasty and the absolute best out of all the dishes we ordered. Very good and will return!
My experience was great! As soon as we walked in a man enjoying his food could tell it was our first time and he came up to us and told us how things worked and that everything on the menu was amazing. Boy was he right?! The broth alone from every dish I could drink for days. 😂 It was so affordable for the quantity and the quality of food you get especially for Japanese cuisine. I will be frequenting this restaurant again!
Been going here for over 15+ years. The OG of pay at the counter and self serve sushi spot on Bellaire. Service and food have been consistent and tasty over the years. Hidden in the corner of the plaza. From nigiri, rolls, handrolls, udon, don bowls, it’s a good spot to grab a quick bite w variety of dishes to choose from. Free miso and bean dessert.
Great sushi with very good pricing. The sushi here is very fresh and they are very quick. While the situation is a little different here with having to seat first them go up and ordering the food at the cashier. They do bring the food out very fast and they offer free miso soup when dining in. I will be looking forward to coming back here when in China town..
We’ve been coming to this little Japanese spot in Chinatown off Bellaire for almost 18 years now—basically since before we got married and had kids. The setup is simple: order at the counter, grab a table, and help yourself to water, utensils, and one of my favorite touches—the complimentary miso soup. They keep a pot out for everyone, and it’s always a nice way to start the meal. Prices are very fair and the value is excellent. Food here has always been consistently delicious. I’ll admit the sushi rolls aren’t always perfectly proportioned, but they never miss a beat flavor-wise. On our last visit we spent just under $50 for myself, my wife, and one of our sons. I had the shrimp tempura entrée with rice, while my wife and son enjoyed a mix of sushi. I don’t personally eat sushi, but judging by their smiles, it hit the spot. The only downside for me are the napkins—they’re those super thin ones that don’t really do the job. But that’s a small gripe in the big picture. Overall, this is one of those tried-and-true places that keeps us coming back again and again.
Sure! Here’s another version of a 5-star review for Hokkaido Bellaire: ⸻ Always a great experience at Hokkaido Bellaire! The staff here is incredibly friendly and welcoming—they truly make you feel like a valued guest. Service is fast, but never rushed, and the food is consistently delicious. The sushi is fresh, the portions are generous, and everything is beautifully plated. Whether dining in or taking out, this location delivers both quality and comfort every time. Highly recommend to anyone looking for solid Japanese cuisine with top- tier services.
This just became my new favorite restaurant in Houston. Sushi and udon soup was amazing and a great price. Free self serve miso soup, red bean soup, and tea. All of the workers were extremely kind and the atmosphere was great. Decent amount of tables and plenty of parking. Can’t wait to come back!
I think that most would not give a 5 star service to this because it's different. You order fist them they deliver it. After we ordered the food was there fast. I LOVE SUSHI. This place did not disappoint. We went with our family of five and even though not the ultimate place to take your kids wasn't bad. Would be a great place for a date.
We like to come here for sushi that doesn't break the bank. They have good quality for the price. You do get a little bit of a price break if you pay by cash. You order at the counter here and they usually have a line. It can go fast or slow depending upon the people ordering. The person taking the orders is usually pretty efficient but people don't seem to order quickly. They have a paper menu that you can check off the rolls you want and hand to them, but not everything on the menu is on the paper order form. I like the sashimi don bowls. They just changed the name of it but it is the same as before. All of the rolls are good. We also like the tempura. If you order the meal, it comes with rice and is a larger portion but you can order the appetizer version if you don't want as much. The price difference isn't too much so I usually order the meal. It is self serve water, tea, bowls, soup, and red bean dessert. Sometimes when it is very crowded, you may have to wait for clean cups or bowls. We like being able to self serve so it is not a problem for us. Taste wise - everything we have had tastes fresh and portion sizes are good. This is one of our favorite places to go for sushi.
Food was good and service was fast considering the amount of people that were there. It was pretty packed, which is a given since it was a weekend and we went for dinner. I tried the salmon teriyaki with rice, as well as the crazy spider roll. The salmon teriyaki was delicious and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Light and airy, not over done. The crazy spider roll didn’t taste like it has what was supposed to be inside it. It was supposed to have soft shell crab but there was something crunchy in the roll and it tasted like slightly burnt shrimp tempura. I feel like they accidentally put the wrong meat inside. It wasn’t too bad I still ate it, but just not the right sushi I ordered seemingly, and tasted kinda burnt. The seasoning and sauce on the top was what I ordered, and it look like a crazy spider roll from the outside though. Just not the same ingredients on the inside as what was listed on the menu. Overall decent area, just make sure to check your roll to see if there’s no mixup when your order arrives.
The place has high reviews only because the prices are unbeatable and they have complimentary (bottomless) miso soup… $20-30 per person for a full sushi meal is hard to beat. But the food has just mediocre taste and flavor. Would describe it as - fast food sushi place. Nothing tasted worth coming back for me The atmosphere is dull and even slightly depressing
