A place we came across on a whim. Friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere. Food, delicious. We had the warm Brussel sprouts and Fried Deviled Eggs. Fancy drinks. We had the Froze. We came during brunch and I'm thinking it wasn't a "Peak Time". Place is on the smaller side & I'm sure it gets crowded. Definitely will come again for brunch! Check them out!
Hubby and I stopped for brunch today and we were very satisfied. I made reservations but didn't need to. Although it's a small establishment, it wasn't packed at all. We started off with the Orbit Frozé and deviled eggs with bacon (extra cost). The drinks were sooooo good, tasted like candy. All the food was hot, fresh and delicious. I chose the French toast and wings and had the option of 2 or 4 pieces of french toast. Let me tell you, I wish I chose 4 because it was amazing, omg! I was pleasantly surprised with the grits, the tiny pieces of jalapeños gave it a nice flavor. No complaints at all! We will definitely be back because there were a lot of items we wanted to try!
Took my wife here for brunch for the first time and absolutely loved it. I had the wings and waffle which were great and she had the spare rib burrito with potatoes which was awesome. Nice atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating available. The waiter was very attentive and our food was brought out within 10 minutes of ordering and was as fresh as it gets. We didn't try the wine this time but they seem to have a multitude of options and offer wine packages with different price points in mind. Definitely saving this as one of my favorite local spots!
10s Across the Board!!! Food was great! The restaurant had a good balance of feeling full with patrons whilst not being too full and having to wait to be seated during the Sunday brunch hour (then again it was just a few of us). But yeah, Idk if it was because I just came off of a diet and this was my cheat meal but pretty much everything was immaculate for me. I had a video of the food that I had to chop up and screenshot for pictures to reference from. ONLY critiques I would give is that my scrambled egg texture was a little looser than I liked and the red velvet pancake almost tasted sugar-free ish to me, but honestly I could’ve just asked for the egg to have been scrambled hard and the pancake flavor is just a preference thing so tbh that’s still a win in my book, especially because its texture was still great! But yeah, my shrimp and grits were great (and even better eaten as leftovers! 🫣), that buttery biscuit was good too for my bread lovers out there, and the Brussel sprouts omg!! I wish they’d give me a lesson or two on how to make mines like that. But yeah, I had a great time. Service was speedy and great as well. Guy at the door checked in on us a few times throughout and the bartender who serviced us would check in as well, but there were no hiccups in this visit. I will definitely be returning to try other menu items!
Absolutely 💯 % class and the food is simply exquisite, when I go to a restaurant not very often does a manager shows the genuine care that ZEE The New Manager showed me , i was impressed by his experience in wine and food, I just can't wait to go back, customer service is at the highest. Just a wonderful restaurant. I will bring everyone I know and will tell everyone about this special Gem of a Restaurant. Can't wait to go back. Dreamy Food. Best Fried chicken I've ever tasted. And I've had it several times, always at a 5 star restaurant level. The chef's amazing. Thank you again for the unforgettable experience.
Omg this was our first time here. But it will not be the last trust me. Me and my husband really had a great time. Our waiter Manny was the best I like how attentive he was Very friendly great music and the food was out of this world I’m so happy my husband brought me here this is a must try if you are in Houston. Make reservations so you can be help to your seat soon as you get there .
I have been coming here for YEARS and i literally have zero complaints. The food here is ALWAYS consistently good and made fresh. Recently, they have redone the inside and it’s a cute sexy vibe especially at night! In addition the service is always good and they are always down to earth. this is THE SPOT. a lowkey gem, try it out.. you won’t be disappoint p.s the chipotle honey wings, brussels sprouts, mac >>> Thank me later & Go see and ask for Z, he’ll make your night!
Oh so good! I have a had a lot of fried chicken in my days but this takes the crown. Not overly oily, light crispy texture, juicy flavorful chicken and well paired bubbles. We subbed the potatoes for the Spanish Potatoes… I wouldn’t say they were what I assumed but they were delightful all the same. The service was stellar and the atmosphere was joyous and peppy. I highly recommend!
OK, so if you have not tried this place this is worth the drive. The chef fried up the best deviled eggs I’ve ever had not to mention the chicken and waffles is unbelievable. This is worth the drive for a great Sunday brunch and the owner is outstanding.!!! They also have a huge wine selection and the peach Bellini’s. I can’t talk enough about.!!! ♥️ My new favorite spot!
First time here and the food and atmosphere was great. The food was delicious and the service was top tier. Zee went out of the way to make us a special drink!
Celebrated our anniversary at here at Max’s Wine Dive. This was our first time here but it will not be our last. The food and wine were amazing! We met Zee the owner who was so personal-able. April was the best waitress that made our evening enjoyable. To top it off that big a.. brownie is nothing to tangle with…it was so good. Thank you Zee for making our anniversary extra special…your Rosenberg /Fulshear friends.
I had a great brunch celebration for my first client at Max’s Wine Dive. I occasionally come here for brunch once or twice a year but this day was special…the fried deviled egg app was awesome and a great starter and the French toast was a perfect consistency…not too soggy or crispy. Of course the fried chicken tenders had a great flavor. Thanks Max’s Wine Dive for celebrating a special day with me!!!
My wife and I met some friends of ours here for brunch on Saturday November 23rd,2024. There was plenty of open seating but we had a reservation just in case they were packed. The food was delicious, I definitely recommend the Crispy Deviled Eggs with bacon added, it was a hit with us! I had the Short Rib Benny which was phenomenal and my wife had the Crème Brûlée French toast with a side of tenders, which she thoroughly enjoyed! The atmosphere is great, the music can be a little loud at times but if there is no crowd then it's relatively easy to have a steady conversation. The service was excellent as well, they kept our water and tea filled and were very attentive! We definitely plan on returning again!
We stopped by Max’s Wine Dive to kill some time and ended up having a great experience. We ordered a cheese board, and it was exquisite—beautifully arranged with a thoughtful mix of flavors and textures. The wine pairing our server recommended truly hit the spot and elevated the experience. We also grabbed a couple of to-go mixed drinks—a blueberry and peach wine-based combo. Totally worth every penny—refreshing, well-balanced, and perfect for sipping later. The atmosphere is laid-back and cozy, making it a great place to chat with friends, unwind, and enjoy quality bites and drinks. It wasn’t busy when we visited, so I can’t speak to the service during peak hours, but for us, it was smooth and friendly throughout. Overall, it’s a solid spot for wine lovers and anyone looking for a chill, upscale casual experience in Houston.
I visited this place for my birthday. The Spicy chicken sandwich wasn't very spicy but it was flavorful. I also had brussel sprouts(the best I ever had). Service wasn't that good as they were not busy 🤔. The music was good and the atmosphere was nice and chill. I'm definitely coming back to try the chicken n waffles 😁.
Delicious food.. give it a try.. you won’t regret !! Note: portions are huge so come hungry !!! 😋

Don’t know what’s up with bad reviews, everything was phenomenal last night. So grateful for the outstanding Gluten Free fried chicken and other gf options. Service on point and the atmosphere was just fine!

Always a great brunch spot with different options. Fried chicken is a staple at Max's especially paired with waffles. Drinks are always good and they have something different on rotation. Staff is attentive and helpful. They have several locations so odds are you're going to be close-ish to one. Definitely worth stopping in. We got the red velvet pancakes today, so moist and fluffy. Not overly sweet. The alligator bites were delicious, the Cajun rice was not spicy at all. The deviled eggs had a nice twist to them as they were fried and a bit of a Dijon creamy mustard to it.
We went for brunch last weekend and we liked the experience. The appetiser (deviled eggs) and mimosa was very good. We got the Spicy Chicken burger which looked pretty tasty! The restaurant is a bit small and can be crowded. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend another visit for sure but make your reservation.
This was my first time at this location and I was a little disappointed. The service was excellent, but not so much the food. We ordered the Crispy Deviled Eggs, the Famous Southern Fried Chicken with Collard Greens & Potatoes, Chicken & Waffles, and Jalapeño Cheese Grits. The crispy deviled eggs were good along with the chicken tenders, waffles, and grits. Unfortunately, I don't know what happened with the collard greens and the potatoes because they were both terrible. The greens tasted like they came out of a can and the potatoes were bland and overcooked. The chicken was good, but it wasn't hot like I expected. Either they forgot to make it H-Town Hot or it just wasn't that spicy.
Food was great. Came in after church service with the fam. Believe I was that hungry, but doesn't take away from the idea that the food was great. I ordered two different main plates, yes I hungry. Granted they both had similar items on the plate like the Waffles and the French Toast, same category in my opinion but first time here, wanted to try it out and was not disappointed. Would recommend this spot and come back. Environment was small, but always packed, let's you know that the demand is there. Free parking upfront and outside seating as well.
Came for brunch with my business partner. The service was great and the owner (guessing he was the owner) came by to make sure we were having a good experience. The food was good. I had a salad and french toast, I wish I had ordered something that was more unique to the restaurant. My partner had chicken and waffles and could not stop talking about how good the chicken was! Overall the space was a little tight because we didn't have a reservation only the high tops were available but we didn't need to wait to sit down, so that was a major plus. Overall, I would recommend this place to family and friends.
This was my first time dining here in many many years! The experience went well. The chicken was sooo delicious! The greens were amazing too! The only thing I had a problem with is, a side of Mac n cheese was $10 dollars and the container was only 1/2 way filled. Definitely a ripoff and if I would’ve noticed it before I left with my to go, I would’ve asked them to put more in the container or asked for a refund. Other than that, everything was pretty good!
I don’t usually give bad reviews (especially since my sister always picks great spots!), but this location was just okay for me. The food was decent — if you enjoy sweet greens, this is definitely your place. Everything else was fine, just not something I’d go back for. Still, we did enjoy ourselves! 🫶🏽
Tight walking space inside by the bar. Tried the chicken wrapped lobster for the first time and was not a fan. It's expensive also. I also don't understand why they put an empty lobster 🦞 tail shell with the meal. You can't eat it. I'll give them another chance to be better.
New owners, new atmosphere/ decor but same food. My food was awesome!! Great selection of wine!! Nice chill spot on a Friday night for dinner.❤️
I hadn’t been to Max’s Wine Dive since their Dallas location closed years ago, so I was super excited to finally revisit this spot in Houston. The food definitely lived up to the memories—the chicken and waffles are hands down the best, especially with the honey chipotle sauce on the side. A must-try! That said, the experience wasn’t without a few hiccups. They were undergoing renovations, so the dining space felt cramped and a bit chaotic. Service was just okay—unfortunately, our waitress accidentally spilled food on me while clearing the table, which dampened the vibe. I was also pretty disappointed by the champagne pricing; for the quality of the bottle, it felt way overpriced. Overall, the food still shines (especially that chicken and waffle combo!), but the atmosphere and service could definitely use some polishing—hopefully that comes with the renovations.
Great food. We went for HRW. Portions are smaller for HRW. Service could have been better. It took awhile to be seated and receive service. Hence the 4 stars. We had the fried chicken, steak sliders, and cream brûlée. I would recommend for casual date night or with friends.

While I loved that they had gluten free fried chicken, the service here felt rushed. We sat outside and there was no one there and we felt our server and cleaning crew were rushing us out the door. We ordered a bottle of wine so we were planing to stay awhile and enjoy it, but they were rushing to take our food away and water glasses before we even finished our wine.
Excellent brunch French toast with added chicken tenders and cocktails !! Waitstaff is excellent and attentive :) However they are now including an 18% gratuity on the bill and if you don't catch it you will pay double for the tip. I always tip 20% cash if the service is good but I don't like having the tip included with no mention of it !! My bad for not checking the bill closely :) Are people not tipping anymore ??

Don’t be fooled this is NOT the original Max’s Wine Dive. It is under new management and it is not the same inside or food wise. We were disappointed and paid $14 for a side of fries that was a small plate of truffle fries that was not that good. The deep fried short rib empanadas were disappointing very Styrofoam like texture and the sauce was weird tasting. Many there for brunch were having old Mac specials like chicken and waffles. While they expended the menu to include “other spirits” but the prices are now ridiculous for what you get. The service was not the greatest and they had folding chairs at tables where they removed the booths from the wall making seating very uncomfortable. Some major kinks to work out with new owners for sure. Traditional soul vide and set work are gone.
I had the chicken and waffles. The waffles were great! But the fried chicken wasn't really giving what it was suppose to! The chicken sandwich was pretty good, very crunchy, yet juicy on the inside. When seating at the bar you can see them prepare the food and the visual makes for good appetizers. My first time trying 'gator, alligator that is, and It actually tastes like chicken 🥴🙄🤣 but no it was really good. The dish taste very clean and I would definitely have it again when in town. The rotisserie chicken leg quarters were very good nice and tender. The rice however was very mushy, thick, and I'll pass. But overall. Waffle even after the fact cold with syrup.. 👌👌👌
Max's Wine Dive in Houston offers a truly delightful experience with its inviting atmosphere and attentive service. The vibe is relaxed yet sophisticated, making it perfect for a casual evening out or a special occasion. While their "world-famous" fried chicken boasts an incredible crunch factor, it regrettably missed the mark on seasoning, leaving a bit to be desired in terms of flavor. However, the true star of the show, and what I enjoyed most, were the deviled eggs – especially with the irresistible caramelized bacon on top. They're an absolute must-try!

Came here for the food and it was pretty disappointing. Had the Mac and cheese which had very little flavor, tasted like watered down cheese sauce. Definitely needed salt. The Houston hot chicken didn't taste spicy at all, just really greasy. The chipotle honey was nice to have some sort of flavor on the chicken and the pickles were good and that's about it.
The food was good as usual; however, there were several roaches on the bar that were visible while we were eating, which was very concerning. I mentioned this to our server, and her response felt dismissive and annoyed. Shortly after, she brought the bill before we had finished our bottle of wine and without us asking for it. Before we even had a chance to put our card down, she came back and picked up the bill without saying anything, which made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. We received no further service after that. I’ve always liked this place, so I hope management addresses both the cleanliness issue and the service experience.
I’ve lived within walking distance of Max’s Wine Dive for about ten years and it’s been one of my go-to spots. Unfortunately, I have to lower my rating from five stars to two after my most recent visit. We were very disappointed. I completely understand that businesses need to evolve and that prices go up. That’s not the issue. What I really miss is the open kitchen. Watching the chefs prepare food in front of you was always part of what made Max’s special. Now, a mirrored wall blocks the view, and while the remodel looks modern and trendy, it feels like the “dive” atmosphere that gave the place its charm is gone. Still, I’d happily adapt if the food and service stayed consistent. When we arrived for our reservation, the restaurant was about half full, and we sat at the bar. Despite that, no one greeted us except the water server for nearly ten minutes. When we finally placed our drink order, it took another while before we received them, and both were disappointing. My michelada was warm, and my spouse’s Bloody Mary was so spicy it was almost undrinkable (and we both love spice). We planned to stay and order food, but another twenty minutes passed without anyone checking in. The bar staff seemed busy, but with so few guests, we weren’t sure why it was taking so long. After waiting more than half an hour with no acknowledgement, we decided to leave. Even closing out our tab took a second reminder. I’ll give it another try in a month or so, but I truly hope the service and consistency return to what made Max’s Wine Dive such a neighborhood favorite.
❌️❌️❌️Beware: AUTOMATIC GRATUITY@ 18% ❌️❌️❌️ We were blindsided considering it was just 2 of us. Total shocker. So since I'm still in shock, while I sit at the bar now, let me do a full list of issues. I have been a long time fan before ownership. (1) Glasses still full of wine with only half of our food eaten, and bar tender asked if we were ready to check out. Really? (2) Took several attempts to get the bar tenders attention to order food. She was busy singing. (3) positive note, the music is present but not over bearing. It is also a nice pleasant mix.
Personally, I’m not sure what the hype is about. The chicken was… OK not worth the price paid… over priced. I’ve had chicken cheaper that had more flavor. The Lemon pepper wings, the lemon pepper couldn’t be tasted. The onion rings should be fried harder and needed more flavor. The greens were good. For the prices on the menu service should be great. When we arrived (party of 6) on a Saturday at 6:30 PM she was sitting at the bar on her phone, We were sat and we waited, someone came to give us water. What I didn’t hear was “Would you like something to drink?” No others were in there, but yet we needed to get her attention to place our order. Not one of our party of 6 is willing to revisit!

If I could give zero stars, I would. The waiter was nice, but the food was terrible. The fried deviled eggs were served cold, and the Caesar salad was extremely disappointing. Overall, a very poor experience and a bad way to start my birthday.
Ordered two loaded homies to go and they changed it up eggs taste like powder eggs and the cheese taste horrible. Not to mention we ordered through the website and still took 30 minutes to get our order and there was only a few people in there. SMH whatever y'all did to change the menu you need to go back to the old ingredients and the old style this was absolutely the worst. Been getting the loaded homies for almost two years now, but now im scared to try anything on y'alls menu.
We had a really disappointing experience at Max’s Wine Dive in Houston. We asked for four different wines that were listed on their menu and the bartender did not recognize any of them and told us they were out of all four. Instead of offering comparable alternatives or walking us through the list, she brought us random wines that were honestly awful. What made it worse was the atmosphere at the bar. A couple sitting next to us was being served shots and joking around with someone who appeared to be the manager or owner. The interaction felt unprofessional and uncomfortable, especially compared to how we were treated. For a place that promotes itself around wine, the lack of knowledge, poor service, and awkward environment were surprising. Based on our experience, I would not recommend it and have a hard time seeing how this place stays open long if this is the norm.
beautiful restaurant with great ambience. i came with a party of 13, and half of the orders were wrong and the other half was cold. the waitress had attitude and was generally passive aggressive. the food that was served correctly was okay
It has been a while since visiting this Wine Bar… I was excited to visit but quickly let down. My girlfriend and I sat at the Bar for Wine and an appetizer. Unfortunately, while enjoying our a BOTTLE of wine and food we were visited by one of those disgusting little brown roaches that ran across our plate… eeewwwhhhh!!!! I called the Bartender over to let her know and she said; “oh sorry let me comp your appetizer… WHAT!!! Really!!! Hahahah ok that’s it we are finishing our bottle of wine. Decided 100% not to order dinner. And we will not to come back.
New owner/management/cook TERRIBLE & I MEAN TERRIBLE. Collard greens are out a can, Mac n cheese just BLAND! Fried lobster was NOT REAL LOBSTER! Never AGAIN! Salad dressing from the grocery store! Just TERRIBLE. They tried to OVER CHARGE also! I gave 1 star bc you can’t give ZERO !! I am HIGHLY PISSED OFF!!!! I mean HIGHLY!!!

The WORST SERVICE EVER!! My daughter ordered the 3 piece southern Fried all dark with Chipotle honey. I ordered the Chicken fried Chicken with 2nd over medium fried eggs .. country potatoes and onion rings. We also ordered a 3 piece country fried hot honey (With additional dark piece) to go. Waited awhile for our food but no worries .. the atmosphere and music was good. My daughter’s order came out… after 30’min of waiting for my order my daughter was done. I cancelled my order. But since they said it was ready they boxed it. After arriving at home and I’m ready to eat… food was Cold…Eggs were fried. Chicken fried chicken IS DRY WITH LITTLE CREAM GRAVY and the thinnest over fried onion rings are ever!! Whataburgers are Better!! The extra order is Not hot honey… just dry 3 piece (not the extra piece requested) NO GREENS AND THE HALF TOAST IS BURNT IN ONE SIDE. Perhaps if the chef had not been coming out to flirt with her girlfriend she could have gotten our order right and put on time!! WORST SERVICE EVER!! Our bar hostess even started avoiding us because the rest of our order was not coming out!!! My daughter wanted to go to Sonoma’s. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED!! The ITHER LOCATION WAS GREAT! I figured it would be just as good. I will NEVER GO BACK!! My heart experience….THE FOOD IS NOT ON PAR WITH THE OTHER LOCATION AND neither is the SERVICE!!
Absolutely terrible customer service. The decor is nice but it was so bright you could see the ugly holes in the walls where they had tv cable and power run through. We were the only customers in the restaurant. We ordered the Max’s Monday special sitting at the bar. The special is a small bite and bottle of wine from their sommelier list. When the bartender brought the bottle we ordered she poured two glasses without showing us the bottle. I noticed after the pour that the bottle was different than the one listed on the menu online from the QR code we had to scan. I asked the waitress what bottle that was and I said it seemed that it was the wrong one. She literally rolled her eyes and sighed, “you ordered the house special this is the house wine.” I said on the menu the bottled listed here is different. She cut me off and told me, “sweetheart, the menu is wrong and it’s not up to date. Obviously we are remodeling.” Then she pointed to unfinished bar shelves then walked off. We ordered the fried pepper and fried calamari. It came without fried peppers but I didn’t even want to ask the bartender cause she had such a terrible attitude. She was singing so loud to the regain music she was playing. Basically , ignoring us the entire service. This used to be my go to spot a few years ago but won’t be back despite the food being good.
If I could give zero stars, I would. The waiter was nice, but the food was terrible. The fried deviled eggs were served cold, and the Caesar salad was extremely disappointing. Overall, a very poor experience and a bad way to start my birthday.
