Been going to Tan Tan for many years. Their prices are very reasonable and portions are good. Love their sweet and sour pork and their fried rice cake. Big shrimps used for their mayo and walnut shrimp dish.

Great food and atmosphere. This place was recommended to us by a family member, and did not disappoint. Took the family out to eat here, they loved it. We had the flat noodles, walnut shrimp, fried rice and Peking duck with bao buns 🤤. Everything 🤌 on point. Would definitely recommend this place.

James came out to say hi and make sure our experience was going well. My beautiful wife and I agreed it exceeded our expectations on every level. Our new favorite spot in Chinatown ~ Fish in a Clay pot ~ special fried rice 10 out of 10.

Food is stellar. I find their rice platters to be very delicious. Their noodles are cooked well, and the broth has a lot of flavor. There's a lot of options for seafood, vegetarians, and general Chinese entres. All dishes besides appetizers, noodles, and platters come with a side of rice with unlimited refills.

In my opinion, There are two main signs of a great Chinese restaurant: 1. Most of the patrons are speaking an Asian language. 2. You have no idea what they’re eating—or where those dishes are on the menu! 😉 That said, in Tan Tan Restaurant there are always familiar favorites like fried rice and walnut chicken—and Tan Tan Restaurant has those dishes freshly made for you and many more to choose from. Beyond the classics, they serve authentic dishes that might be less known to Western diners but all are packed with bold, delicious flavors. Portions are generous, the staff is friendly, and service is quick. Bottom line: You can’t go wrong with Tan Tan Restaurant for flavorful, satisfying Western-Chinese dishes right in the heart of Houston’s Chinatown.

It's nostalgic place for many, a Houston gem and the food is still on point after all these years. The staff is friendly and efficient. It doesn't take long to get your food and the place is big enough to accommodate a small or large party. It's clean and the parking is made up of mostly their customers. This will always be a spot I'm down to go to. When I used to live far away, I'd come back to eat here. It's like home.

Tan Tan, a Houston OG, earns a 5-star review for its incredible food and service I’ve loved for over 20 years! The A1 banh bot chien is a standout, with crispy golden edges and a soft chewy interior, paired with a tangy dipping sauce that elevates every bite. The Cantonese sweet and sour strikes a perfect balance, its bright tangy sauce coating tender meat and crisp vegetables, delivering nostalgic comfort in every mouthful. The crispy egg noodle with shrimp is a textural delight, featuring crunchy noodles topped with plump juicy shrimp in a savory sauce that ties it all together. The chow fun with beef and Chinese broccoli is a flavor powerhouse, with smoky tender beef and vibrant greens stir-fried to perfection in a rich umami-packed sauce. The salt and pepper calamari is addictive, lightly battered, perfectly seasoned, and fried to a golden crisp that’s impossible to stop eating. The service is friendly and quick, making every visit a joy. Every dish bursts with authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and care. Tan Tan remains a must-visit for bold delicious Asian cuisine. So dang good!

Tan Tan A Bellaire Staple for Flavorful Vietnamese Eats OMG, Tan Tan is an absolute must-visit in Bellaire! Every time we go, it’s nothing but amazing eats and incredible flavors. The sauces alone are worth the trip the spicy vinegar with chilies and garlic is out of this world and takes every dish to the next level. The egg crepes are a must-have every single time, and I can’t leave without ordering the salted pepper squid it’s crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Everything on the menu is flavorful, satisfying, and keeps us coming back for more. Whether it’s a lunch getaway or a late-night feast, Tan Tan never disappoints. If you’re in Bellaire, this spot is an absolute gem.

One of the OG spots in Bellaire Chinatown—Tan Tan never misses! Their wonton noodle soup and rice cakes are still my absolute favorites. I just tried their new cheese puffs and it’s so tasty! Super flavorful and stuffed just right. I’m pretty picky when it comes to cheese puffs, but these definitely hit the mark. Service is still solid—everyone’s super attentive. The decor brings back all the nostalgic feels, and I love that even with a few updates, they’ve kept the original vibe alive. Will always come back.

I’ve been going to Tan Tan for over 10 years now. (Started going when they had the other location on Westheimer.) It’s one of my favorite restaurants in Houston and I love bringing family here. I’m still navigating my rice allergy and am so appreciative of their staff and how thoughtful they are when I let them know. May and Janet are wonderful and make an extra effort to accommodate so I can safely enjoy their delicious food. ☺️ If you have the opportunity to eat here, I highly recommend it! Excuse my photo! I couldn’t wait to take a bite!

Beautiful restaurant, excellent food. One of the best places in Houston. Open until midnight, perfect for after the opera, theatre, or Cirque du Soleil. Well worth the drive. Spring rolls, wonton soup and chicken and rice dish were all top shelf. Managenent and waitstaff are some of the best I have seen anywhere. Incredibly diligent and professional employees. Thank you for having us!

Ok, this is my favorite place in the city for Chinese food!! Every time we've been here (about a dozen in total), the service has been wonderful. Today's service was exceptionally expedient, and the food was fantastic, as it always is. We ate from 4 dishes, family style, so that everyone had a little bit of each dish. There are many selections on the menu, but I really enjoyed the different flavors of the menu items we selected today, in particular. So, if I may make a suggestion based on our most wonderful experience today, here's what we had. Whether you're new to this restaurant or have been here before, I think this combination of dishes provides an experience, rich in flavor, varied in textures, and tied well together to satisfy one's palette. Our selections: Flat Rice Noodle with Beef and Brown Sauce . Warm, savory, earthy. Soft textures, just melts in your mouth. This is the reason we come here. We order it every time. At this point, I feel it's safe for me to call this "comfort food." I'm sure it's the equivalent to a large warm towel fresh from the dryer after a shower. Seiously, if you were to throw this dish into the air, it would turn into sunshine. #iykyk Eggplant with Basil sauce. This was the surprise hit for me! I'm normally not a fan of eggplant dishes, but this may have been my favorite thing I had today. Rich, aromatics of the Basil in a darker brown sauce, that had just a hint of a kick to it. Thinly sliced onions were the perfect compliment to the sauce, along with the Eggplant. I found myself going back to it for the sauce alone. It was delicious mixed in with the steamed rice. I hate to keep going on about it, but I can't stress enough how much I just don't care for eggplant and never really have, but this dish was truly STELLAR! Tangerine Beef. (pictured) This one is SOOOO GOOD! Citrus, combined with aromatics from the ginger slices in a brown sauce tie in nicely with the Basil from the Eggplant dish, but is a little sweeter, (which in turn translates well to the 4th dish we ordered). The textures on the beef are fantastically contrasted between the soft, tender, generous slices of beef and the firm, crispiness of the breading around it. Not sure if it's doubled fried, or how they achieve it, but it reminds me of a chicken fried steak type vibe, but the sauce!!!! This was our "big hit surprise" from a few visits back. We only recently discovered it, but it never disappoints. Always a table favorite! And finally, the Walnut Shrimp. (pictured) This one has become a staple for us over many visits. This is the one dish with the furthest deviation of flavor profile from the other dishes, but hits on a different level vs. some other places where we've had the same dish. The shrimp are HUGE! Perfect, thin, crispy texture on the tempura coating. The sauce is light, creamy, and a little more on the sweeter side. Large chunks of glazed walnuts provide a soft sort of crunch. The sauce is nicely proportioned to the (did I mention they ARE HUGE?) shrimp, so as not to overpower it. All of it served atop very thinly shredded lettuce and cabbage, which combines nicely with the sauce and shrimp to give a light and sweet taste of slaw, without feeling like you're eating soggy coleslaw. Cabbage and carrots are still firm, sauce is sweet and creamy. It's simply done, no real big surprises, but the difference is, they do all of these things at an elite level. Everything is executed at the highest level with the freshest ingredients. It's just simply well done. I suggest these 4 dishes and even in the above order...just a small plate of each one, from the flat Noodle to the shrimp. Call it "around the table" and enjoy! I made more than a couple "round trips" myself!

A classic Vietnamese Chinese fusion restaurant, it’s a massive place that still manages to give great quality food and service. We came in late, and still got great quality. We ordered the duck soup, fried rice, and sesame chicken, and they all came out amazing. Great prices for the portion sizes and quality. Definitely try the fried rice and duck soup at least once. A well kept establishment that’s been there a very long time, but still gives out great classics.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Tan Tan Restaurant, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it a great place for a casual meal with friends or family. The service at Tan Tan Restaurant was excellent. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and accommodating throughout our visit. They promptly greeted us upon arrival and ensured that we had everything we needed during our meal. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations when we were deciding what to order. Speaking of the menu, Tan Tan Restaurant offers a variety of dishes at affordable prices. The standout item for me was the pan-fried noodles. They were absolutely amazing—crispy, flavorful, and packed with fresh ingredients. The portion size was generous, making it a satisfying and filling dish. I would highly recommend trying the pan-fried noodles during your visit. The egg rolls were another highlight of our meal. They were well-prepared, with a crispy exterior and a delicious filling. They were served piping hot and accompanied by a flavorful dipping sauce. It was evident that they were made with care and attention to detail. However, not all the dishes lived up to our expectations. The dumplings, unfortunately, fell short. They didn't possess the same level of flavor and quality as the other dishes we tried. The filling lacked seasoning and the texture was somewhat disappointing. While this was a letdown, it's important to note that taste preferences can vary, and others may have a different experience. In terms of value, Tan Tan Restaurant provides affordable prices for the quality of food and service they offer. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring that we left the restaurant satisfied. Overall, Tan Tan Restaurant is a solid choice for a casual dining experience. The friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and standout dishes such as the pan-fried noodles and egg rolls make it worth a visit. While not every dish hit the mark, it's evident that the restaurant strives to provide a positive experience for its customers. I would recommend giving Tan Tan Restaurant a try and exploring their menu for yourself. Please note that this review is based on my personal experience and taste preferences, and individual experiences may vary.

I stopped by Tan Tan in Houston with pretty average expectations, and honestly, that’s about how the experience turned out neither amazing nor terrible, just okay overall. It’s one of those places you hear about a lot, especially for late-night Vietnamese food, so I figured I’d finally give it a try. One thing I did appreciate right away was the cleanliness. The restaurant itself was decent, and the bathrooms were clean and well kept, which might seem like a small thing but definitely matters when you’re dining out. It made the place feel more comfortable and taken care of, so points there. As for the food, the portions were fair for the price. You’re not getting huge plates, but you’re also not leaving feeling like you got ripped off. For what you pay, the amount of food makes sense, especially if you’re just looking for something filling without expecting anything over the top. Taste-wise, the food was fine but not super memorable. Nothing tasted bad, but nothing really wowed me either. It felt like food you’d grab when you’re hungry and want something warm and familiar, not necessarily something you’d crave days later. It got the job done, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. Service was pretty average. The staff wasn’t unfriendly, but they weren’t especially warm or attentive either. It felt a bit rushed at times, and there wasn’t much interaction beyond taking the order and dropping off the food. Not a deal breaker, but it didn’t add much to the experience. The vibe at Tan Tan is very casual. It’s not a place you go for ambiance or a special night out. Depending on the time, it can be busy and a little loud, which fits the late-night spot reputation. It’s more of a quick, no-frills type of place. Overall, I’d give Tan Tan a solid three stars. The clean bathrooms and fair portions are definite positives, but the food and service were just average. It’s a decent option if you’re nearby or looking for a late-night bite, but not somewhere I’d go out of my way to visit again

If you have never been to China or have never tasted any good authentic Chinese food, it might be okay to come here. Otherwise you will be disappointed. The food here is at the same level as Panda Express or the food court in a shopping mall. Service is good and table is clean, just like you would expect from any other restaurants. I guess this is the way for Chinese restaurants to survive here in the US.

I'd give this place a solid 3 because the food was good. What my Wife and Friend ordered was pretty delicious. Outside of that, they need to closely monitor the bathrooms because I saw something so horrifying, I am 100% sure I'll get banned from posting reviews if I put a photo. Jesus.

We went on a spur of the moment dinner to this restaurant. We ordered some Hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef, Hunan Chicken and a sizzling seafood platter. The soup was very hot and peppery and I basically left it after 2 spoonfuls. I quite enjoyed the Mongolian Beef. The other two dishes were okay. My family enjoyed the food, but it was okay for me.

I tried this restaurant many years ago and wasn't impressed. A friend really wanted to eat here recently. I'm still not impressed. The food was just so so. No real flavor, didn't taste particularly fresh and definitely not something that I would race back to eat again in a hurry. The service was ok, nothing to be excited about. There are so many delicious restaurants in this area. This isn't one that I would personally recommend

Food quality has gone downhill. Even their house special rice cake isn’t the same anymore. It used to be my favorite rice cake. I would only eat it at Tan Tan. Now it’s soggy, not crispy like before and they’re very stingy with the pickled radish. Their chili oil sauce isn’t the same as before either, quality and freshness has gone down. I am breaking up with Tan Tan. Chia tay với Tân Tân!
