The quality of Asian food in this city continues to stagger, and near the top of the list is this delightful spot. A friend of ours who knows every eatery in Houston's Asian District on and around Bellaire Boulevard recommended it, and we were thrilled. Here's the blueprint for a stellar meal: 1. Bamboo shoots with roast pork. The dish arrives looking almost like a dessert, resembling a mound of German-style red cabbage studded with blocks of shiny caramel. The base is actually seasoned steamed bamboo shoots with an almost smoky, slightly sweetened and salty flavor, and the candy-lookalikes are actually braised pork belly chunks, about 2/3 lucious pork and 1/3 glorious fat. We all fell in love with this dish. 2. Diced beef tenderloin in black pepper sauce. The beef chunks ae juicy and expertly-cooked in a dazzling black pepper sauce with an assortment of different colored peppers, onions, celery, outragesouly-flavorful and chewy mushrooms, and garlic. Pretty much every other dish you've ever seen on other Chinese menus that sounds like this one will pale in comparison. 3. "Spicy chicken." Ok, no style points for names here. But this was one of my favorites--expertly-fried and surprisingly tiny chunks of chicken cooked in a glistening oil with tons of sliced fiery red chili peppers and peanuts--the chicken had a flavor that hinted cumin and Sichuan peppercorns though I didn't see any in the dish. I could not stop eating the chicken and the peanuts. 4. Xiao long bao--spectacular Shanghai soup dumplings. Our firend the expert on Houston's Asian scene places them near the top of his Houston list of these soup-packed delights. 'Nuff said. 5. Stir-fried baby bok choy with yuba (tofu skin)--a vegetarian stunner. The yuba pulls a flavor from the sauce that makes it almost taste like morel mushrooms. Our server Cammi took wonderful care of us, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we experienced some unforgettable flavors and dishes today. We look forward to many returns.

This is definitely our favorite restaurant in Chinatown. The food is always great, so as the service. Price is a little bit on a expensive side, but they use really good material for cooking, totally worthy it. My daughter doesn't eat any rice except from this restaurant. Don't forget to ask Today's special, you will have a chance to try something really awesome off the menu. We tried almost everything here, love them all.

What a hidden gem! Everything was so fresh and filling and the server was very attentive! Given the supply chain issues/inflation happening in the US right now, the prices and portions were amazing! The ambiance is great too. I highly recommend! The menu isn’t too big so it’s not overwhelming either.

First time with 4 adults and 2 kids. Ordered 2 XLB, a fish soup, 3 entrees, and an appetizer. Plenty of leftovers and everyone was stuffed. Clean and spacious. Family friendly. Will come back.

As other reviews have mentioned, the price is steep. However, the food is quite good and the portions are fair. The lamb toothpicks were very flavorful, and the soup dumplings were amazing. Everything was delicious, though I lament the lack of a dessert on their menu.

This is a place for you if want comfort, nice deco, great service and decent food. However, the prices are a bit higher. I saw the window poster of soup dumplings, but surprisingly wasn't on the menu. The server said it is available and actually quite good.

Taste of China is a very authentic, no frills Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. The workers all speak Chinese, and it is a place that locals often frequent. The menu is expansive with the dishes categorized by Chinese regions like Hunan, Szechuan, and others. There are many other restaurants in the complex that sell similar szechuan cuisine. Service was very fast, I got the food promptly. I ordered: 1) Toothpick Lamb - I am normally not a lamb person, but I enjoyed this! Not too gamy, just a slight aftertaste. Not as tender as I would've liked, but not overly chewy. The flavor was good. It has a crystalized sugary crust that adds sweetness and a nice caramelization. This helps balance out the slight kick of spice and lamb flavor. 2) Mapo Tofu - a solid dish here with good flavors. Small, soft tofu pieces. Overall, I think it is a solid restaurant to try out if you want something authentic. For me, personally, since I am not much of a lamb, tripe, or szechuan cuisine fan, I probably won't be coming too often. But it is good.

Spent over $60 here for a few pieces of pork belly & a bowl of soup—with barely anything in it…it probably feeds a little kid. And the soup tasted like nothing but ginger and extremely bland. The same food at other places is twice the size with half the price…never coming back again. If you’re thinking about coming here, please save your money and go somewhere else. Just turn around and RUN!!! I’m surprised they can stay in business like this…I’ve never left bad reviews for any business ever in my life….that tells you something…smh

Minus 1 star because the soup dumplings were delivered broken with all soup outside of dumplings Minus 1 star because the owner tried to convince me on complaint, that this is normal (lol) Minus 1 star for attitude we received during the visit October 2024: Good flavor and taste. Positively surprised by their soup dumplings - were freshly made and the skin had a good thickness. Also can recommend Lion’s head The layout of this place doesn’t make a lot of sense - tables and chairs block the room too much. But I come for food, not aesthetics :)

This was one of my favorite restaurants a few years ago.But this time most of the dishes today were not that fresh also very salty..especially some red meat dishes were difficult to chew, no exaggeration to say that it was like eating rubber... plus there were two customers made some comments after dining there, then their boss came out loudy insulted the customer with the waiters together…which is tribble ...If I were that customer, I would be horrified, they should have took a video as evidence then call 911 to file a police report about the insulte incident to sue the restaurant and the owner. Hope they're all good. This is the worst experiences in any Chinese restaurant I ever had..

The dishes taste like premade dishes, 预制菜 and portion size is small just like packaged dishes。 They didn't even bother to warm them thoroughly. The one lone waitress would recommend high price dishes with very poor quality, don't fall for that. One dish she recommended was a "wagyu beef" stir fry. We couldn't figure out if it is chicken meat or pork meat or some fabricated meat lol... .Most dishes taste worse than the food court Chinese food. The price is steep. It's just such a shame that they are ruining the name of Chinese food here in Bellaire. We now hesitate to venture into a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.

We took four dishes to eat and took the rest to go. But we had the eggplant, pork and preserved vegetables, pickled green beans and peppers with pork belly. All four dishes came out within 5minutes. This is not a great sign, even if we were the only guests there. It was pretty apparent from the food quality and by how fast it came out that the food was processed/premade. The flavors were not great and it was the first time I have had a dry 梅菜扣肉。It was also more expensive for a smaller portion size compared to other restaurants.

My boyfriend went here yesterday and not even an hour later he got food poisoning and started to throw up. It may be the dish he ate but, please be careful.

Food is worse than before. I can pay more price, but I didn’t feel good same as before. Katy is much better.

I went to this place three times. I will not go again. It is pricy and the amount of food is little. Also. I suspected most of the dishes were premade. We ordered several dishes and they were ready in less than 10 minutes. Some of them were just lukewarm. Very obvious, they either just microwaved or pan heated some premade food. The shrimp was not fresh at all. The texture was very soft and weird . I suspect they were just dead shrimps and they put some heavy flavor to cover it. I also think the waitress was trying to lure you to order more food. Anyway, i will not go to this place any more
