Daniel Braden graciously hosted The Houston Concierge Association at The Grove. It was an amazing experience. Location, ambiance, service, and food were all wonderful. Dry aged NY Strip that melts in your mouth. Upscale ambiance with views of Discovery Green Park. Daniel was a terrific host as were Rick, Eric, and Mary (cocktail magician). The Grove is centrally located in Discovery Park just steps from the Hilton-Americas, Marriott Marquis, and Embassy Suites hotels. Have a guest to impress? Treat them to The Grove.
Although we didn't get to have dinner here because of a private party, I still want to share a good review because of how our group was treated. I've eaten here before and it was really good. This time, there was some miscommunication with our group and the reservation clerk and we could not get in at all, due to four events buying out the venue. The management and servers were so kind and allowed us to hang around until our leader showed up, until they could not anymore.
Our daughter held the rehearsal dinner here and it was fantastic. The staff gave great service, were friendly, and efficient. The private room was perfect for 40-ish guests
I had my son's rehearsal dinner there. The atmosphere was great as well as the food! The staff went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly for our guests! I highly recommend!
I don’t usually write reviews, but I had the BEST experience last night while dinning at The Grove. The food was amazing, the Crab Fritters are to die for! What really made our experience special was the service, we were so pleased with Skyler! He was very knowledgeable about the menu, and really made our night special, he is the perfect example of what impeccable service is. We will definitely be back!
This place was excellent The food was amazing and the ambience is stellar. We will be back soon and often. Loved the dress code and the staff's alertness. We had a fantastic time. We were close enough to the Beyonce event that we watched the drone show. You can't beat that. We attended a friend's wedding reception here and it did not disappoint. 👏🏿
Went to a wedding here and was a nice venue! Outdoor area was nice (minus discovery green noise). Food was prepared well and bar staff was quick!
After finding a seat outside on the porch I did have to wait for several minutes for a server to come to my table. They were very apologetic and accommodating. I was very fortunate to be able to sit outside on a beautiful evening and the porkchop that I ordered was absolutely fantastic! Any ill feelings I might have had after waiting for a server went away after I enjoyed an incredible meal! I will absolutely return next time I am in Houston for business!
The grove was a beautiful venue for our 160 person party! It’s elegant on its own and has very little need for extra florals, decorations or fluff. The food was delicious and the staff did an excellent job on the day of the event. I’m sure it was not intentional, but please be careful when paying your final bill!! We were presented with a bill that reflected $10 more per head than the menu selected and served. If I hadn’t noticed, I would have been overcharged by more than $2,000. Catt and Tatiana were quick to fix the charge, but never once apologized for the wrong charge or inconvenience. I cannot say the charge was purposeful, but it does feel like there was a lack of diligence from the team.
From vibrant atmosphere and great interior, to exquisite berry cream dessert The Grove was everything we wanted and more for a fun night in Huston. Would definitely recommend if someone wants an elegant dinner in the city downtown.
One of my favorite restaurants in Houston, located in Discovery Green. The natural lighting at this restaurant is top tier and really makes the atmosphere. And of course, the food and service were nothing but the best.
Just celebrated our third anniversary here and it was one of the best dining experiences of my life. Perfectly cooked salmon, an amazing wine list, and a waiter who knew how to put it together best. Shout out to Salvador. They were very accommodating of my wife’s dairy allergy and even made us a custom dessert. One of the best places for fine dining seafood in Houston
I'm only going to rate the customer service because I did not get a chance to eat there. The valet guy was extreemly courteous. We made a reservation for dinner after hour event in walking distance at GRB. After arriving to the event location we realized we were in the wrong building completely we were in the wrong part of town. So we headed back cancel their reservation receive the car and went on. The find stars goes to the staff at the Grove. We were not dressed appropriately for the restaurant and they did not Say anything to us. They were extremely friendly in made wonderful small chat while we were making our reservation. There are 2 different menus a lunch menu in a dinner menu. So when you book your reservation be clear on which menu you are going to be offered. I would say this restaurant is great for date night or in evening out with special friends.
My first time here. Service was great and the food was a pleasant surprise. My daughter and I spilt a half-price at lunch blue crab corn fritters, which were very fresh and tasty, with an amazing dipping sauce--great start to a pleasant outdoor lunch. This was followed by our entree. We both decided on the shrimp and crab salad roll and substituted the Maque Choux for the potato wedges that would have come with the rolls. The restaurant has a very good beverage list (see menu on their website). We ate on the patio (see photos) with a great view and the staff were very helpful without being obtrusive. Highly recommend!
Came here to eat for dinner. Found the staff to be really awesome! Cesile was outstanding! Super attentive and made great recommendations! We started with the Bread and Berrata, the blue crab fritters, and the beet salad! All were tasty and delicious! The real treat though was the filet mignon! Holy smokes! We were not expecting that. Compliments to the chef. It was cooked to perfection and the flavor was absolutely amazing. My wife said it is the best steak she’s ever had. We finished the meal with espresso and the berries and cream. Perfection! We will be back!
My husband and I love coming here! They have a great charcuterie board and drinks and the view is beautiful with nothing but floor to ceiling windows of Discovery Green. Then you can go play and explore in Discovery Green and downtown! There is always something going on. Good location next to convention center and Hilton, too, among other hotels. At least go once!
Eating in a restaurant in the middle of the park sure feels nice; the view was amazing! I am spoiled with amazing burgers, so this burger was alright. I really really enjoyed the experience here, especially when I asked about a gelato flavor, they gave me a whole scoop for free to try. The staff were friendly, patient, and entertaining. The only downside was: the food took probably 20 minutes to come out...
Every time I come here I'm impressed. The food, service, and ambiance are always on point. I usually come with a big party and each time they handle the madness with grace. If the weather is nice I recommend sitting outside as it has one of the coolest locations in downtown Houston. The price of entrees varies so you can usually find something in your budget but the quality of food is great no matter what comes out on your plate. Come enjoy!
We had brunch here at The Grove and it was literally the best food ever! Try the French toast -- it is heaven!!! Simone was our waitress and she had an infectious personality, it made the experience that much better. I recommend this brunch for a date spot. One amazing thing is you pay $15 for refillable drinks with 1 cent refills! One thing to note is that gratuity is already included.
Enjoyed the food and service by our prompt and sweet waitress Simone. We ordered the shrimp cocktail since the oysters were unavailable and double meat cheeseburger. It was delicious after a night of ice skating at Discovery Green. No wait time either! We sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous scene. The wine selection is also decent. We ordered chocolate cake for dessert which was very tasty and fresh. Would definitely come again.
Excellent place for special occasions. Be prepared to spend $100 a person if having drinks, a shared app, main, and dessert. The focaccia bread was really good, particularly the dips. I had the scallops...5 large and tender. There were no sides, and I wish I had realized that or I might have ordered one. That however left room for dessert. The coffee Gelato was perfect. The chocolate cake was unremarkable, and the custard wasn't my cup of tea (the 3 of us shared). They make a great old fashioned but use small pieces of ice which was disappointing. These should have one big cube or it stars getting watered down. Great atmosphere right on the green. The service was friendly and professional.
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here with a few close friends. Not only is this restaurant a beautiful event space, but it totally lived up to all the glowing reviews we’d heard! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. We were a little disappointed that a few dishes we wanted were sold out, but the manager, Brian, went above and beyond to make it up to us—even sending over complimentary food and wine! His kindness and attentiveness truly made our night special. If you visit, definitely ask for Brian—he’s fantastic! We left so happy and can’t wait to come back.
Absolutely Amazing! From the moment we stepped into The Grove on Lamar, we were blown away. The atmosphere is elegant and inviting, with a modern twist. The service was impeccable – our server was attentive and knowledgeable, making sure we had everything we needed. But the real star of the show was the food! The bread rolls were warm and buttery, the tortilla soup was flavorful and comforting, and the chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy. Every dish was a masterpiece! If you're looking for a truly unforgettable dining experience, I highly recommend The Grove on Lamar. It's a gem in the heart of Houston that won't disappoint. Overall: 5/5 stars. I would also like to add that the venue itself is stunning. The Grove is located in Discovery Green, so you have beautiful views of the park and the city skyline. The decor is modern and chic, and the overall ambiance is very relaxing.
I have had lunch and dinner here and it was a fantastic experience both times.Service is attentive without being annoying. We liked it here so much that we hosted the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding in November '24 here. Everything was wonderful and perfect and our guests also loved it and raved. Great food, good drinks, cool atmosphere, and good location.
Our experience was excellent, we had a nice window seat and the restaurant was open and airy. We ordered the summer Burratta with focaccia bread and it was very refreshing. Very enjoyable with an amazing vinaigrette dressing. The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We loved the fact that the oysters were large and full of flavor. Stir fry shrimp had the perfect level of spice it doesn’t come too spicy but you can always add more. The restaurant was kind enough to send us a slice of cake for our anniversary as well. I also have nothing but good things to say about our waiter, Rick. Thanks for your suggestions and taking the time to explain pairings with us.
Appetizer was the bread and blue crab corn fritters. The fritters were tasty. Nice outside. Excellent chunks of crab. I liked the sauce for them as well. The kale salad and red fish was great. The fish was cooked perfectly. The fried potatoes salad was a surprise hit. I’ve never seen that item on a menu. My friend got the wedge salad. She loveddd it. Service was amazing as well. Definitely want to go back!
We were a large group but ended up ordering for the table bread and butter, beet hummus, chargrilled wings, ahi tuna augachile, and blue crab corn fritters. The bread and butter was my favorite appetizer. The salt on the fresh bread went perfectly with the seasonings in the butter. Second favorite was the blue crab fritters. Everybody enjoyed all the other dishes as well. I got to enjoy the sunset in the park drink which was good. I ordered the fagilatelle al ragu and mostly everybody else at the table ordered the salmon filet as an entrée. The ragu tasted very good to be and the beef short rib was tender. Mostly everybody enjoyed the salmon and said it was the best they've had. The others said it was in their top salmon. The salmon was a pretty decent size too. I was surprised. The only dish people weren't a fan of was the grits, they said it was very bland. The atmosphere was pretty cool but the place is pretty pricy.
We had an amazing time with our group of ladies tonight. Service was good. Some of the appetizers weren’t super great, but the entrees were on point. We totally loved the location and outside decor. The weather was lovely, the outdoor seating area was perfect for after dinner chats. The ambience is good here.
I had the opportunity to go to The Grove on the Friday before Valentines day for GALLENTINE'S 🥰. Me and my friends had a lovely time. They featured a selected menu and everything we had was delicious. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. I had the pleasure of trying the Ginger Margarita 🍹, SO GOOD!! Definitely had a kick and it was yummy. The restaurant was decorated so elegantly for the occasion and everyone practiced social distancing. They also offered free valet for those with a dinner reservation, which was nice. (Even though when I was ready to leave, my car was stuck in the garage for about 30 minutes 🙃. They eventually got it out lol.) After dinner they had coffee and cocktails in the upstairs patio/bar area. The decor was perfect and had multiple desserts, fruits and cheeses to choose from with a live classical music performance. Such a nice evening, I was so impressed with everything. I will definitely be back to experience their Happy Hour. Thank you so much for a great first experience 💗.
Decent food and friendly wait staff. Came here for restaurant week and ordered the steak. It was ok. Could have been a bit more seasoned. Salad was well plated and tasty. I really enjoyed the chicken tortilla soup as well. Great place to come to people watch. Located right by discovery green makes it a great location.
I tell ya what, it’s not kid friendly, but the grown folks had a time at brunch! Food was flavorful. I just wish the music wasn’t so loud…like why did I have to scream at the person sitting right next to me? Other than that, my first visit here made me want to return for more (next time I’m in the city)
I just had a water and watched the activities around while Iwaited to go to dinner. Loved watching the kids on bumper boats and it's a nice place to grab a table for a rest.
Food is actually really good one they get the order right. Third times the charm. Had to send our food back twice since our waiter kept taking our order down wrong. Asked for the Drum BLT with no changes and it took two tries and about thirty minutes. Edit: Jesus the mngr saw something was wrong and completely rectified the problem. A+ customer service.
The food was really great! Others at the table got the wagyu cheddar burger and complimented it. I got the blue crab enchiladas and they were really, really good. The flavor was amazing. The sauce on them was 10/10 and they were sprinkled with corn & cilantro, etc. However, the service was lacking — we waited awhile for waters to be refilled and they initially brought out a burger for me rather than the enchiladas. They said they’d correct it and it took them probably another 20 minutes to bring out my plate. The food made up for it though!
Atmosphere was casual elegant perfect if you want something upscale without feeling overly formal. The setting was beautiful, especially with the park views, and it definitely feels like a great spot for a special occasion. The service was good, not great, but still pleasant and professional. Nothing stood out as exceptional, yet nothing took away from the evening either. Food was well prepared and enjoyable, and the ambiance really carried the experience. Overall good experience.
Houston restaurant week at The Grove! They did not have hummus, so we added oysters and tuna ceviche to our appetizers. The tuna ceviche was season well and very tasty. My favorite dish was the shrimp stir fry! So good! The ambiance was pleasant. I was not a fan of the Italian Red wine; it was too acidic for my taste. We ordered a bottle of Ghostrunner wine, that was better.
I absolutely loved this place! The ambiance was wonderful. Interior design was bright, colorful, modern and inviting. I was celebrating my birthday with about 22 friends. Everyone loved the food. They were very accommodating to our group. EJ, our server, was the BEST. He was super friendly and catered to our needs. I had the Black Drum and it was mouthwatering. I found the Blue Crab mac n cheese to be irresistible. I even ordered some to go.They gave me a dessert of my choosing and sang Happy Birthday (facilitated by EJ). The only smear to this otherwise amazing night, was the fact that one of the managers spilled sauce on my husband while serving our food and he (the manager)offered his business card to help with cleaning if it didn't come out. I felt that he could have offered to comp his meal or even mine, since it was a bday celebration and there were 22 people in the party. Seemed really cheesy to me that my husband had to bring it up. They did end up comping (taking off) my drink, so that was at least something. Overall it was a GREAT night and I will definitely be back.
We attended a wedding reception in the upstairs dining room and patio area. The food was outstanding, the service was very good and the atmosphere was pleasurable. The reason for my lower review is due to the fact that the patio decking was not sealed well in between the boards and my heels kept falling into the cracks and they are completely ruined and not repairable.
Food and service was great. Only issue is that it’s incredibly overpriced. $8 to add 1/2 an avocado to a salad. Also, they charge for substitutions, even if they are they same price. $2 substitution fee for green beans instead of asparagus. $2 fee for regular mashed potatoes instead of fried potato salad. This is on top of the $46 price for a filet. If you want to feel extremely nickel and dimed, this is the place to go.
Great place for Dinner. Great service and fast seating. Had the Beef Belly plate. The BBQ sauce was a little too much for the portion of beef presented. Nice views of the park. Beer and wine list had a well rounded selection. Ended the dinner with a very good pomegranate ginger sorbet (Amazing!!!) Family friendly.
Flavor: C Service: B Tea: A Solo dining: B If you’re downtown near the convention center and need a quick and decent lunch, this place will do. But nothing impressed me. I got the blackened redfish BLT and I thought it was dry and lacked flavor. The bread and butter appetizer was also unimpressive - not piping hot or unique.
The place is very nice and very well situated. THe decor is modern and smart. This is a very pleasant place. The dishes are originaly presented and food is ok. The price is a little too high for the quality (not really impressed by the food) and size. Probably due to the nice location of the restaurant.
This reminded me of a dinner and a mo ie type of place. Very basic. The service sucked. I always tip well having been a waiter myself, butbit was almost like they didn't even get the concept of what at table food service is at all.
I attended a charity event here last night. Nice event, good food, room pleasant but too loud. Valet parking was unacceptable - 30 minutes to drop off a car and it took us 45 minutes to get our car at the end of the evening. I will try to remember not to attend another event at The Grove. Not worth it.
Had a very unfriendly email interaction with Catt while trying to inquire about having a large wedding with them. It is clear to me that they do not care or do not need wedding business. Do not eat here. Do not get married here.
I got married here in 2017 and have very fond memories of this place. Came back today and the place has completely fallen apart. This place desperately needs new management… good location decent food, horrible service and it’s all the management.
Unfortunately, this place seems to treat customers differently based on skin color. I’ve been here twice, and both times it was clear, if your skin isn’t white enough, don’t expect good service. Tonight, the bartender first said the kitchen would close in 45 minutes, then later changed it to “desserts only.” I asked if I could order the rolls and a dulce de leche dessert to go, and he said, “Sure, no problem.” Another bartender eventually brought out the dessert NOT to go, and no one ever came back to check on me about the rolls like I’d originally requested. Ate the dessert there while waiting , and I ended up finishing the whole thing before anyone even came back to check on me. When the bartender finally returned after more than 20 minutes, his excuse was that he’d been “busy,” even though he had only one other couple at the bar the entire time. Once again, it was obvious that I wasn’t a priority because of my skin color. Completely unacceptable and deeply disappointing.
I booked a reservation online. After I booked, they called and demanded a credit card in order to keep my reservation. I thought initially that it was a scam, but after looking further I think it was serious. Very shady, but fortunately located in a town with many other options. Edit for clarity: Totally fine if restaurants want to require a card to prevent cancellations, but they should do so pre-booking and not call people to ask for it.
After hosting a party at The Grove in Houston, I cannot recommend this venue. My experience was disappointing on multiple levels. The management made promises that were never fulfilled, creating significant issues with my event. Communication was poor, with the manager telling me one thing but failing to deliver on those commitments. The staff, particularly the person at the entrance, displayed an unprofessional attitude that made guests feel unwelcome. This poor customer service only compounded the problems with the event itself. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise against choosing The Grove for any important gatherings or celebrations. The disconnect between what was promised and what was delivered made for a frustrating experience that ultimately ruined what should have been a special occasion.
