Just unbelievable the service the food the restaurants super clean and parking is free and easy chef is excellent and came out to talk to us
Drove from Cypress. This place did not disappoint. The drink is a cucumber lemonade. Made in house and extremely refreshing and crisp. The rice was sooooo good. Need the recipe! We had a large party and they put tables together to accommodate us Fresh food brought out quickly.
Best birria in Houston the meat was tender The consumer was filled with flavors and the salsa was so authentic reminds me of Home back in Mexico. although it gets better! The variety of Chilaquiles that they offer is insane. I love the fact that I can come anytime of day for breakfast lunch and dinner!
If you are looking for an actual Mexican Restaurant this is it, Not Tex Mex here, service is great very kind and friendly, the food feels like my grandma is cooking for me, the beans made me feel like home I know it sounds weird but not anyone can make that happen, and of course they have open bar, my favorite is Espresso martini and the best of all is BRUNCH ALL DAY , because top 1 Item for me it’s the Chilaquiles and Carnita Tacos , the best Cafe de Olla and mucho más , I’m telling you you need to go visit
Phenomenal breakfast tacos! They made a lot of changes to the place and the bar is cool. I wouldn’t mind chillin there and watching a game sometime. The food is spot on from what others say as well. The crew working looks like they are the usual staff, and they were pretty cool. Great neighborhood spot. I’ll be back soon!
This was a spur of the moment choice to eat at when I first came for food & since then its been a great go to for delicious Mexican food. The food options are great. I so far had the XL quesiberria with their signature aqua frescoes, the berria ramen & the 3 berria tacos with selantro, diced tomatoes & shredded lettuce on the site to add.
Review from 8/30/2025: I went yesterday for a pickup order and was disappointed to see the place renovated looking less unique and with more gentrified vibes. When I called, I was told how the menu changed and my usual order item of 4 birriadillas with consome for $12.99ish went up in price to around $15 like other birria spots and changed to 3 birriadillas instead. Thankfully they were made with a lot more meat like the employee mentioned and the broth and flavor overall were as just as good and didn't go down in quality or taste. This is still the best birria I've had across Houston, Mexico, and California which says a lot! We were just disappointed that it was 3 birriadillas now because we love tortillas so we think it's worth returning to 4 in our opinion. Thanks in advance for that consideration! Review from 2022: The best birria I've had in Houston! The prices are also great compared to other places
I ordered a Birria combination plate with 2 Birria tacos and 3 Street tacos. They overstuffed my tacos and the Birria tacos were normal sized and packed with meat and cheese and were crispy. I've already told my friends about this place and I ordered an hour ago. I had enough to share a taco and made a torta the next day. I just happened to drive by it and pulled up the reviews, not one lie told and their bathroom was clean.
Saw this place on an Instagram video from a local. By the time we got there breakfast was no longer an option. So I still need to come back and try those chilaquiles. We ordered the XL Quesabirria (a Birria quesadilla): $17. And holy mother of Baby Jesus…lots of meat and sooo deliciously cheesy!! Glad we shared the one order because it was a lot!! We each also ordered an elote along with our meals and I can say it was perfect with lots of queso fresco. Great service by all the staff!❤️ Music was great, just wish it hadn’t been that loud (so we could actually converse). We shall return!!!
Based on my experience, all of the positive reviews are 100% accurate. This is a nice spot for good food. I ordered the Burria Deluxe! The food was so delicious. At first glance, I thought this meal was only enough for a small appetizer, but it satisfied my hunger throughout the night. It took less than 10 minutes to get our food. I wasn’t expecting it to be ready so fast. I love the decor and layout. The staff were so friendly and professional. Excellent customer service. This was my first time eating here and I’ll definitely be returning. Great job!
I’ve been coming here for a long time, back when it was TJ Birria, and now as La Cocina de TJ. I used to come weekly and always ordered the papa preparada. It was seriously so good and my favorite thing on the menu. Since the rebrand, it was taken off the menu and honestly it makes me so sad. I still come back because the service is great and the staff is super welcoming and friendly. I just really wish they’d bring the papa preparada back. It was the one thing I looked forward to every time I came. For that reason I give 4 stars.
La Cocina de TJ is a solid spot with great, friendly service and very reasonable prices. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try the waffle and chicken since they ran out, but the rest of the experience was still enjoyable. The Mexican food is decent overall, and the standout for me was the wagyu sampler chilaquiles plate. Being able to taste all three of their sauces was amazing. Each one packed with flavor and definitely the highlight of the meal. The wagyu itself was a bit overdone, which was a slight letdown, but it didn’t completely take away from the dish. Good food, great service, and solid prices make this a place worth checking out (and is worth a return trip to try what we missed). Also breakfast all day breakfast taco here will be my go to now.
Great spot for Birria! My bf and I came here on a Saturday night for a pickup order which included the Quesabirria, Birriadillas, Papabirria, and Topo Chico Preparado. All three dishes had a generous amount of beef and cheese with lots of purple onion and cilantro on the side! The beef was tender/flavorful and I couldn’t get enough of the consome. The papabirria is probably the most filling- the dish was loaded with cheese and all the other toppings. As for the drink, this was my first time trying Topo Chico Preparado and I am obsessed. I do wish the exterior of the quesabirria and birriadillas was slightly more crunchy but overall, I was really satisfied with everything we ordered and I can’t wait to come back!
Located in the Heights is TJ Birria y más. I have had birria 1000s of times in Tijuana so whenever I hear about it here in the states I’m apprehensive. I live a 2 min drive from here and bae wanted tacos so I was like let’s give it a shot. Parking is hit or miss. It’s smaller and I’m sure there’s street parking on the side but luckily we didn’t need it. Walked in and immediately ordered. The menu is written on the wall and it’s pretty straightforward. Birria Plate 7.8/10 - comes with rice and beans and 5 tortillas. This is honestly the best deal on the menu bc it comes with real tortillas. These ain’t “Mini tacos”. The meat is juicy and quality but if my girl is saying it doesn’t have seasoning. Well, yeah. lol. The consomé is really good! Dunno how you cook the meat in there and have none of the flavor stay. Quesabirria 7.8/10 - it’s the meat with some cheese. It’s good! I’d get it again. Def good to split. As for birria options here in Houston I think it’s on the higher end. This place is voted “top 25 tacos spots in Houston” and it falls under my top 25. Not necessarily a compliment lol but not a negative either Follow me on IG Eats_by_Puig
I loved going here. The birria is always so good and the waters omg. However, they recently did some remodeling that Im just not comfortable in anymore. Not to mention, they got rid of the metal trays :( They traded it out for a weirdly angled cutting board. I dont know, but personally I missed the casual setting of everything. The times I went they would play house music instead of the chill latino music, at times it was overwhelming and loud during our meal. I'm adding my previous pictures. Again, the food top notch amazing. It's just I rather not keep asking for an extra plate cause the aesthetic is more important.
I used to love this place, we would order for lunch at my office all the time. Unfortunately under new management the service is not nearly as good. Food is still decent but they cut down the portion size of the birria tacos from 4 to 3 and kept the price the same. Just not what it used to be. We had an issue with an order that they “forgot” to make so I waited nearly an hour for our food. The new manager was standing right there and he did not once apologize or offer a discount or even a free drink. They later called to apologize and offered to send a coupon for a discounted meal in the future, but that was never sent.
I recently visited TJ Birria y Más and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. One of the managers, spent most of the time sitting down, while both employees were talking and using their phones instead of helping customers. I stood there waiting to be helped and felt completely ignored. I asked another staff member for their names. I only remember that one of them was Elvia, but I don’t recall the other manager’s name. The situation was very unprofessional, especially coming from people who are supposed to be managers. I hope management takes this seriously, because customer service is just as important as the food.
I used to really like the mini tacos they served here before, but the last time I came my food was cold, which was disappointing. That’s why now I prefer to drive to Birrias & Más in Stafford, even though it’s a little far. I heard it’s the same owners and the same concept, but the seasoning and the staff over there are way better. Especially the one or two girls I always see working there on Monday mornings—they make the meat exactly how I like it: hot, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. (And if you leave a tip, please send it directly to the girls in the back—they truly deserve it!) Definitely worth the drive. I’ve visited this place in Stafford a couple of times. The first time, I really liked it — the meat was well-cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. That’s actually why I was considering hiring them for an event. However, yesterday, Thursday night, my experience was completely different. The birria tacos were burned, the meat was dry, the consommé came out cold, and it took almost 30 minutes to receive my order. On top of that, the manager treated me with a rude and arrogant attitude, which made the visit even worse. I really hope they improve, because I know they can do better, but this last experience was disappointing.
Their birria tacos are good but this establishment is taking advantage of their customers and they know it. I ordered an horchata drink which said $4.59 on the menu and was charged $6.00 is it a big deal? Not really but then you get a small glass which btw the ticket said 24oz. I asked for a manager and they did not want to attend to my concern. The manager decided to send one of the bussers and I showed them with a bottle of water that I filled which is 16.9 oz and filled their entire glass and did not even deplete the bottle of water. When they saw, they did not apologize, did not offer to withdraw the charge, or offer a drink to go to make up for it. Its not about getting back my money but the principle of taking advantage of their customers and not putting any effort to rectify tells me they rather cheat you than give you what they claim to sell. Not even an apology was given. Good birria but unfortunately for them they just lost another customer.
