On 23 October the PiHead group visited Hippo Cafe. This group visits restaurants throughout Central Texas searching for perfection in their pie menu. Today we sampled the Lemon, Chocolate Cream, Pumpkin and Apple pies. The Lemon and Chocolate were excellent, the Apple and Pumpkin received just an Ok. We wholeheartedly recommend you order a slice alone or after your meal. We would also like to mention the excellent food, although it was a little pricey. The service was excellent, fast and very, very friendly. We recommend you stop by and give this little gem a try.

Great family-owned restaurant. We went back for a quick breakfast while shopping in Hutto. Got a table immediately on a Sunday morning. We were the only 2-top on the list. Great to not have any family or friends available. We grabbed two tacos and a California Dreams crêpe. All were excellent. The crêpe was beautiful, big and tasted amazing. Get that if you go! BUT, there are tons (get it, Hippo pun) of other choices. #MattGoodEats

I got to eat here for the first time today on a Saturday morning. The place did not disappoint. Really great food, really great service. When you think of breakfast spots, make this your#1. My server was fantastic, the food came out fast, and everything was scratch made. It was great! We will be back! Try the heavenly French toast, it's a perfect sweet and savory menu item.

Went to the counter and had awesome service ! Ordered the club sandwich- Huge - tasty , was able to get 2 meals out of it and fries were really good. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy with an egg on top - Delicious.

Very fun place with extraordinary food. So glad that I made this stop. My waitress Rachel is very pregnant and super good. She made wonderful suggestions and was just a very positive happy soul. But the food! I had a vegetarian omelet, I am not a vegetarian but a lady sitting across from me had it , and it looked good so I tried it. It did not disappoint! The hashbrowns were crispy on the out side and I ordered a half order of the heavenly French Toast. The French Toast was the best French Toast that I have ever had! Highly recommend!

Fresh food served fast and huge portions, so you won’t go hungry. Don’t go too close to closing as you likely will feel rushed.

Staff is kind and very good. Food was good. Prices were kind of high, but that’s everywhere now. Bathrooms didn’t have toilet paper. Atmosphere was fun and relaxing.

My go-to place when I'm craving a good, hand breaded, chicken fried steak. Service is always great. I would rate the food high, but this time, the steak was a little bit tough. They could be a bit more generous with the gravy portioning. The biscuits are fantastic and taste like homemade.

The catfish was the best out of all the dishes the food is very homey feeling. Didn’t care for the vinegar coleslaw, and the blueberry’s were old, and inedible 🫐. Overall the cafe is adorable themed, and service was 😊 great, and reasonably priced.

We stopped by on a Friday during lunch 11:30-12:50 while our vehicle was in the shop. They mentioned this place to eat. They had music playing in background. 80’s and it added a good vibe. The buttermilk pie was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! The Philly cheese steak was not. It was dry and barely had onions or bell peppers. The BLT was FABULOUS. (The buttered toast made this sandwich.) Both sandwiches were served with fries. A little on the pricey side for two sandwiches and tea. $46.21. Waitress did not mention the Philly when removing it from the table. It had two bites gone and I had asked for fresh bell pepper to add flavor but it did not help. So we split the BLT. $16.99 for the non eaten Philly. Yikes!! Not sure if this is a cafe policy to not mention uneaten or barely touched meal; or ask customers if they liked their meal. I was not.

Good atmosphere. Employees are nice. But it's hard to give a rating better than two stars for food when they get your takeout order wrong. Ordered the Cyclone Burger and received something like a smash burger with no brisket as advertised. My wifes, who ordered the Fatties Smash Bacon Burger meal ended up having more toppings at the same price. You should receive what you paid for. Driving back to get your oder fixed when you are already hungry is troublesome. このレストランはお勧めしない。

I ordered the buffalo grilled chicken sandwich. The waitress told me it’s only fried. At that point, I pointed out that their menu clearly says fried or grilled. She said ok and “ordered” it for me. What she brought out was a fried chicken sandwich claiming they don’t have grilled chicken today. However, their specialty menu that the waitress also handed to us with the regular men had a breakfast item on it that included grilled chicken, onions, peppers, grilled potatoes, and 2 eggs. If they don’t have grilled chicken, how were they going to make this special menu item? I refused the fried chicken sandwich. She then talked to her manager and they “agreed” to make it for me. When she brought it out, she informed me that people rarely order the grilled chicken and I won’t be able to get it next time. She stated their menu is outdated. If that’s the case it’s also outdated online as well. To top it off my sandwich was missing the cheese that was supposed to be in it and my fries weren’t cooked all the way so instead of crisp, they were mushy. We won’t be going back. ☹️ P.S. my hubby’s good morning burger had some weird ketchup mixed with something else sauce on it that isn’t listed on the menu or he would have asked for no sauce.

Horrible, inedible, disgusting, cheap, overpriced, insulting. Just some of the words that come to mind while thinking about the food we were given today. $61 for food that was inedible. We tried chocolate chip pancakes, plain, french toast, breakfast taco, Hippo breakfast, and the croissant breakfast sandwich. All of it from the eggs, to the squishy sausage, to the REFRIED beans on our breakfast croissant (who came up with that abomination??) that we did not ask for, to the pancakes that were so dry and tasted like they came out of an off brand box of pancakes…totally unappetizing. The crunchy french toast (yes, crunchy. And no, we didn’t get pecans with it) was confusing because why is my French toast CRUNCHY? I would normally be less harsh with my reviews but this was infuriating. There is nothing I loathe more than wasting money, well, except for wasting money on food that I don’t even get to eat. It’s insulting that a place in small town Hutto can charge the prices they are for this quality of food. I feel like we’ve been pranked or something. We gave this spot a chance after trying it previously (with other owners) and it was a similar experience. We gave it a chance again because of an article in the Community Impact. Could have had a better breakfast at McDonald’s. Lesson learned.
