Tip: Try the Southside combo platter with beans and potato salad - it's large enough to share. You can also buy uncooked rope sausage to prepare at home.

Stellar food service with great food. The staff were very attentive of our needs and made sure everything was going well. Very friendly first time experience. Will definitely be going again!
Food was great as always! I'm a carnivore so just being able to buy meat only is great for me! Everyone was friendly and accommodating, but Jena is special. She is constantly cleaning tables and checking on the needs of the dinners. So pleasant.
Friendly staff with great food. Love Chicken plate with two sides beans and slaw. The brisket baked potato was delicious. Very clean music was set just right. An over great experience!
I got the pulled pork sandwich and it hit the spot! I appreciated that I was able to put my own sauce on so the bun didn’t get soggy. It was a good amount of food, and the space was open and clean! Jena was helpful in providing some recommendations and helped me know what to expect with the two sauces so I could make an educated choice.
Great place for good old fashioned Texas style BBQ. You will not be disappointed. The flavor and the tender texture of the beef brisket was right on point. Thank you all for taking the time and paying attention to the details that go into making sure great tasting original Texas style BBQ. I even decided to bring home some of their world famous Elgin Hot Gut to share with my Daughter, Son in-law and the grandkids while watching the NFL wildcard games this weekend!
Always a good time. They take care of vets with a free large drink, so that's pretty sweet too. Mac and cheese, brisket, and sausage is great. Totally blows Salt Lick out of the water.
2nd time here, walk up, place your order, get your food and sit down. A little slow at the counter but the fact you get your food right then and there was awesome. The brisket and sausage and potato salad were amazing. The portion are a little on the small size for the price but worth every dollar. The potato salad is over of the best out there and the Elgin sausage is delicious. Nothing like Texas BBQ but this is over of the best places I've experienced!
Amazing place for catering and dining in. I've used the 1 in Elgin for 4 company lunch events and they never disappoint! Food is awesome! I recommend the brisket and half chicken with a side of their Amazing Mac & cheese!! Simply can't say enough good things about this place!
One of the oldest in Texas, doing BBQ right, Southside Market & Barbecue always delivers a good meal that is served up quickly. No matter the location, I can always depend on well executed, Texas meat treats with some great sides that complete a proper BBQ experience. Whether it’s a quick pit stop, business lunch with colleagues or a weekend meal with family, I know Southside Market and Barbecue will deliver the smoked goods the way I want. The staff is always friendly, efficient and keeps the joint super clean and inviting for all.
They redid their menu and I really like it a lot now. I like their turkey sandwich a lot!! The turkey was moist and seasoned so well! I think it was smoked but I'm not sure. The seasoning was perfectly flavored and I added some of their mild BBQ sauce just for a little extra. I also liked their pinto beans side with it. I was having a bad day and needed some comfort food and this with a banana pudding (with the vanilla wafers!!!) Was just what I needed to feel better.
It may not be the original, but it's the same sausage I ate as a little boy. The experience, reminded me of the meat market my mother took me to, next door to the barber shop I used got my hair cut. She would buy me those foot long hot dogs, then we would go to the back, set on a old picnic table and eat a big tray of sausage and saltine crackers, with Big Red soda. Those were the days!
We were visiting family in Texas, we're from Pa. Our family introduced us to this BBQ restaurant. It was a nice place and the smell of wood smoke took me back to my Boy Scout days. The food was good and I tried the lamb ribs. They were good. The atmosphere was bright with lots of natural light. It was not very loud so we could easily talk to one another. The restroom was neat and clean. Give it a try.
Southside barbecue is an old barbecue chain that started in Elgin. Decades ago when I was graduate student, I used to go to the original one and it was great. These newer ones have lost a lot of their authenticity, but the meat is still good. I’ve never been super fond of their Barbecue sauces but if you overlook that it’s still a good place to go. They also have a small counter in the front where you can buy uncooked meat and sausages.
Great local BBQ spot with a drive through. Overall the food was great. My wife ordered the brisket and sausage combo with potato salad and Mac & cheese and boy was that delicious. I ordered a 2 meat plate (pork ribs and chicken) with a side of corn on the cob and beans. Ended up being told the corn was sold out so I opted for the slaw. I was disappointed with the only 1 piece of rib on the 2 meat plate. The chicken had a great crust but was very fatty. The beans and slaw were flavorful. Overall a great experience. I’d definitely stop by again but would not order the chicken again tho.
The meat cutter, Jelly, cut the fat off another pork steak and put it on my plate so that the weight was correct. She could have at least given me some meat instead of just fat. The bread was dried out like toast.
The Brisket & Chicken was pretty good, didn’t like the potato salad & beans. The BIG kicker is they ran out of RIBS. Atmosphere was very clean. Will come back to try the ribs.Lots of space.
The restaurant was clean, the staff was super friendly, there wasn't a wait (this should've been a warning) but the food was mediocre. I excitedly ordered the combo plate so I'd be able to try a few things and sausage/ brisket are my favorite meats. The sausage was not good. It didn't have a snap but instead the casing was chewy and I wasn't a fan of the texture or taste of the meat. The brisket was seasoned well on the outside but lacked a Smokey bbq flavor throughout the meat. The potato salad was tasty but overall the food wasn't that good.
We ordered pick up for our first time trying here, and honestly we were pretty disappointed. The portion size was incredibly small. The combo plate was a piece of sausage and 1.5 pieces of brisket. I'd expect more for a $19 plate of food. The food tasted decent, but ultimately there are better places to get good BBQ.
Extremely slow service. My plate of food was just sitting there for 5-10 minutes while the cashier took his time checking out 1 customer. The lack of urgency was frustrating. Do not come here if you have a limited lunch break. They only have one cashier that moves extremely slow. They need to improve on their checkout speed or put someone faster at the register. I decided to just leave after about 15 minutes of standing there waiting to be rung up. Why the cashier couldn’t multi task is beyond me. Do better during lunch time, consider people’s limited time.
In all the years I've had nothing but great experiences and memories in dining at the original Elgin location. Unfortunately, this past weekend (2/22/26), the Hutto location failed to impress. My family ( large group 30-50 of us) contacted management two weeks prior to this weekend about their ability to accommodate such a large group and were assured they could. Two hours prior to arriving, at this location, we called to reaffirm we'd be arriving around 5pm. There was no mention of any difficulties or concerns they would not be able to accommodate us. Upon arrive we found several basic items were no longer available, one in particular, sausage??!!, as well as several sides. The staff coverage was lacking and although they worked hard to service us, it was met with continuous updates of what items they were out of. The food we did have to select from was cold and not what we really wanted, but we didn't have any other option at this point. The manager on duty, Sunday, 2/22/26, should have informed us when called two hours prior to our arrival of all the deficiencies and the group could have made other arrangements. I've lost confidence in this location for sure, there's no excuse for this to have happened.
OMG!! Don't allow this restaurant to ruin your visit to Austin! My family and I traveled from the D/FW area to visit our Ancestors homestead. We intricately planned our Daycation. More than two weeks prior, to be certain, I personally called the Manager to inquire and inform him of our intentions to visit with our 55 passenger bus, time and date; and again calling today, the day of the event. On arrival, with ONE person taking orders and preparing them, we were told "it will be 30 minutes for sausage", shortly after "sorry, we're out of chicken", next, "no coleslaw or Mac n cheese", "we're out of mutton"". FAMILY WAITED 45 minutes to be completely served! I requested to speak to the manager, inquiring about our notification, one server, no sausage, chicken, or sides. His only acknowledment was that he was sorry! To make matters more disgusting, one family member graciously picked up the check, a WHOPPING $863.00 for this lousy service. DISGUSTING!! We were told there were other locations we SHOULD have and COULD have, and WILL chose on our next visit!! Never visited a Southside Market THIS HORRIBLE! CHOOSE WISELY IF YOU PLAN TO VISIT AUSTIN AREA!!
We had to wait for a while just for them to ask us what we wanted. We were in the drive through. Then before we could order they said a whole list of food they didnt have. One was the bake potato I really wanted and no Turkey which my husband wanted.
We were told “do not eat there” but we didn’t. I was in a group of about 30 - 40 ppl. We’d called 2 weeks prior to today & an hour prior to our 6 pm scheduled arrival time. When we got there, we were told that they’re out of links, coleslaw? chicken and some other items. Probably The only sides available was potato salad and beans. Some of the meat was cold, bland, unseasoned and dry. It was very disappointing & we all left there thinking, we should have listened. The food was HORRIBLE !!! The only good thing about my experience today was the kind lady at the register.
We were excited to try this place, but the food didn’t quite meet expectations. The brisket was bland and overpriced—we ordered half a pound and barely finished it due to the lack of seasoning. Even the BBQ sauces didn’t add much flavor. The baked potato was also disappointing. It had a strange brown tint inside, was dry, and not warm enough to melt the cheese. If butter was included, it wasn’t noticeable. On the positive side, the service was excellent. Our server was friendly, energetic, and very helpful. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and the sweet tea was genuinely good.
