I am always on the lookout for good Chilaquiles and these were delicious. My husband had the barbacoa burrito and he enjoyed as well.
Amazing food!!! And they are really super nice here. We got asada and chicken soft tacos on corn tortillas, a burrito and chips with guacamole. Everything was delish. Oh and the hibiscus tea is really super good. A friend said they started as a food truck and were so popular, they needed to expand. 5-stars baby!!!
In town on vacation and we’re looking for tacos for lunch. Monty’s did not disappoint. We each had three tacos which came with some chips and your choice of sauces. Every single taco was amazing! Seating is outdoors at tables and it turns over fast. We dined around 1:15 on a Monday and there was a short line to out in our order. The line went fast and the food also came out pretty fast considering how many people they were serving from a small kitchen. Would recommend! Loved the
Mony’s is the definition of a Santa Barbara Staple, and for very good reason. The meat options are plentiful and delicious, the tortillas are chewy and exquisite, and the chips and assorted salsas are addicting. My one piece of advice would be to order anything with their fresh flour tortilla - they are homemade daily. The only downside to Mony’s is their seating situation. The place is often crowded and you have to keep a sharp eye out to snag a table once someone gets up during the lunch hour. Nevertheless, their food is worth the hustle.
This will be the best burrito review I have ever left and is strictly about the barbacoa burrito… phenomenal. I live in Orange County, and might plan another trip to SB strictly for this burrito. Flavor: 5/5 Size: 4.9/5 (can always be bigger, just ask your girl) Fresh factor: 5/5 Salsas: 4/5 (med and hot) Bonus points for searing 2 sides of the burrito adding a nice crispness. Also came with freshly fried tortilla chips. I’m pretty impressed and for the first time ever, not mad about paying $14.20 for a burrito. That was worth pushing retirement back another year.
What a great choice for lunch. This little restaurant only has seating outside on the street (oh to be in California with no rain!). You queue on the street, then enter a smallish area to order, take a seat and wait for plates of deliciousness to arrive. The menu is really interesting and flexible: you choose your meat (type and cooking style), then how you want it presented: taco, burrito, quesadillas, etc. They then serve your selection with some homemade salsas and nacho chips. We chose tacos with a selection of fillings: - Carne Asada (Roasted meat) - Pollo En Molle (Chicken with mole) - Rajas Con Queso (Vegetables with cheese) - Chorizo - Pescado (Fish) Every one was freshly prepared and delicious - we loved them all, but the Chorizo, for me, was outstanding. The salsas were also excellent. All served with a smile. We loved it! Also posted to my food blog on Instagram @AbbeyKing16
Amazing Mexican food! The carnitas taco was phenomenal. They give you tons of freshly made chips in each bag — enough to try all of their fun, unique salsas! Try the pineapple salsa, peanut salsa, pistachio salsa, and roasted pepper if you can. The barbacoa grilled burrito was delicious — the barbacoa was pull-apart tender which I loved. The meat had a strong spice/smokiness to it. If you’re not into that, get the carnitas instead. Friendly and fast service with a bunch of tables outside to enjoy the nice weather. Highly recommend!
This is a real experience worth waiting for. I advise getting there early because there will be a line every single day. Locals considered it the best Mexican food for lunch (closed for dinner). Locally owned which is also extremely important. Barbacoa crispy taco is what I crave. They have an entire lineup of salsas, so don’t be shy try them all. Must visit. Thank me later.
Here's a fun and amazing (Korean) way of eating tacos at Mony's: Get tacos with tripas (ask for "extra crispy") to turn them into "gopchang" tacos! Other dishes were good too, but gopchang tacos are what Koreans dig. Let me know if you liked them this way. Reasonably priced given its quality and location. There was a long line when we got there for lunch on a weekend. Chips were great!
Not your typical taco place, seating is very limited, but the tacos are worth the wait. Best tacos Ive had in CA, and Im Mexican which says it all. The salsas are well balanced, and the tacos are tiny, and full of flavors. Meats were perfectly cooked, and balanced in spices. The bathroom was spotless, and the staff very patient (We had a lot of questions). The atmosphere is not really there, but, who cares!! Its just a small taco joint.
Top three favorite food spot in Santa Barbara! In battle for #1, but my mood is always changing. That said, #1 for Mexican food!! It’s a MUST. Hubs always gets the carne asada, I can’t not get the tacos. They are perfection. They are small so order more, but they are loaded and delicious. All their salsas are made in house and will blow your mind, with unique flavors like pistachio, pineapple, peanut, avocado, mango, etc.. (Highly recommend the pistachio and pineapple salsas). They also have the best chips you will ever find. EVER. Just go.
Delicious tacos. Al pastor, fish, all the chicken and asada tacos were all so fresh. Flour tortillas were excellent. The staff were kind. Limited outdoor seating only. Takes credit cards. Bring your own water as well. Sometimes there is a line but it is worth the wait. Go check it out.
YUM! Cheap generous eats!! This place is BUSY but the queue is a fast one. They have a great salsa bar which is included in your meal. 8different salsas with super fresh ingredients, my personal favorites are the roasted tomato and guacamole salsa, but there are also classic types like salsa verde. The only trade off is their corn tortillas are so similar to the flour ones, but for the price, unbeatable!!
Delicious and authentic Mexican restaurant located near the water front in Santa Barbara. I recommend the tacos! The asada and Al pastor are both great. They have a good selection of house made salsas. I recommend that you try them all! The rice and beans are a good side to add to the dish. They also have a good selection of drinks and beers ready to go as. The only seating is outside the front the of the store.
Although quite a popular restaurant, the food was slightly disappointing as the burrito and fajitas were bland and spiceless. The servings were very large but they weren’t worth finishing. There are far better and cheaper options in other parts of SoCal, especially if you’re craving birria tacos. Service was extremely kind and the food came out rather quickly, however the taste did not live up to the current restaurant ratings.
3 separate occasions my partner and I took a drive to get tacos at Mony’s after being a loyal customer for years, just for them to close without notice. You only find out when you get there and see a paper that says closed on their door. I even called ahead and asked if they were open today and the girl said yes. Very unprofessional and waste of a drive.
At lunch today a short female employee approached the "Hispanic" customers in line and advised them to call in their orders. They then received their order quickly, before anyone else. Were they also receiving a discount? Why advise only Hispanics? Will not be back.
I'm sorry, but I have to humble this place. The chicken was insanely dry to the point I couldn't even chew it. Tortilla was decent, but the beans and rice had zero flavor. I'm gonna come back and try the carne asada plate in about a week and see if my mind changes. Until then I cannot in good faith recommend this place.
