OMG Rated, Asli desee Palistani food ! It is Not just the amazing food here but I do want to mention is the desee restaurant Mahole / pakistani style restaueant experience. The desee ambiance add a lovely value to the meal. When you eat here, the sights, the sounds, desee food aroma and the whole experience. All together it is simply amazing. I ordered goat paya and haleem. Paya was mine favorite. Simply sticky juicy and delicious with just perfect mix of spices. Highly Highly Highly Recimended !!!
Dera is my go-to spot in Jackson Heights for me. Their Bihari kabab is an absolute must-try—the beef is incredibly soft, flavorful, and truly delicious. While the paya was okay, the Bihari kabab is the star of the show. It takes about 15-20 minutes to prepare, but it's well worth the wait. You can tell they take their time with the marination and cooking, which makes all the difference. I hope they never change their recipe; it’s perfect just the way it is. If you’re looking for a genuinely great Bihari kabab, this is the place to get it.
Their food is delicious and staff too specially the guy at the register waleed he is so kind and helpful😊
Very tasty food at very inexpensive price in a clean and modest environment and service is very humble. Like everything about this place.
Felt very “local” at the place, including foods, other diners, and atmosphere. Came here for a very late dinner, but there are a lot of customers eating, talking, and drinking, so I didn’t feel like it’s too late. Very conveniently located, close to the station. I liked the food, but I ordered a little too much for myself. I’d go again next time I’m in the area.
All food is very tasty mostly fish kheer and paya Lahore Lahore aye
Food was so tasty like if u really wanna traditional taste of back home this the place Staff was so friendly and extra mile service Cashier was so friendly… And they are so attracted by the surroundings best to visit and have a family lunch or dinner I could recommend ever prices are so good waiter are great also….
Delicious food but a bit spicy . Just hard to find parking there .Friendly and professional staff and good lighting. Nice decorations and family friendly. Their bread is freshly made and tastes awesome. Their Biryani and butter chicken are amazing .Ms. Gurung is a wonderful waitress and very professional , friendly and fast .
Food in this place is Halal and tastes amazing!!! Especially behari kebab. Meat is very juicy and tender. Just keep in mind it could spicy for some people like me. This restaurant is always very crowded. So, expect delays in service. It's loud there because of too many people. Price is very affordable. Whoever we bring to this restaurant whether Pakistani or non pakistani, everyone just love the food. For those who can't eat spice, I suggest butter chicken. It's very tender pieces of chicken in buttery sauce. Highly recommended. Must visit this place!
I recently had another amazing dinner experience at Dera, and I can't stop raving about it! The food is consistently delicious, especially their garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, and my all-time favorite, the Karahi Gosht. The staff is incredibly friendly and efficient, making each visit a pleasure. I'm a frequent diner here, and I highly recommend Dera to anyone in search of authentic and mouthwatering Pakistani cuisine. Five stars all the way!
This is seriously the best food. I came here with my two daughters for the city, but we drove an hour away to try this food out and it was AMAZING!! You have to try it out. And the server I had was amazing as well, her name was sudina (request for her she is amazing! )
Had an amazing experience at Dera. The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked well. The mango lassi was super refreshing and paired perfectly with the meal. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the place was clean with a nice atmosphere. Thankyou Waleed bhai for always taking care. Can’t wait to come back and try more from them.
Great place for some Indian/Pakistani food. The staff was very hardworking & attentive. Our waitress explained the menu to us & what was or wasn't available at the time of our visit. Nice & clean atmosphere. The restaurant is pretty big & open so you're not squished to the table next to you. We got a variety of dishes & they were all delicious. We had samosa chaat, shami kabab, bhindi masala, chicken malai boti, chicken seekh kabab, chicken tikka masala, plain naan & muli paratha. Everything was hot & tasty. We also had their milk chai which was also pretty good. I highly recommend this restaurant.
If I could give Dera more than 5 stars, I would. We first fell in love with the place when having their chicken karahi and the reshmi kebab (our kids loved them so much too). Next, I put in a large catering order with Touqeer Sahib (who is a pleasure to work with!). We ordered haleem, goat pula'o, samosas, reshimi kebab, chicken kebab, naans, mithai, etc. and the experience could not have been better. The taste (esp the haleem) was outstanding and the food was packaged so professionally. It was easy to transport. I had asked Touqeer Sahib for less spice, and the level was just perfect. Our desi and non desi friends alike were raving about the food. Thank you guys for a wonderful meal and service! We will be back again.
Delicious flavorful food. No frils but good service, friendly and great value. We enjoyed Chana, Aloo Gobi and shared a vegetable rice dish. Good portions and charming simple setting very fitting for the area. We plan to visit whenever in town. Enjoy!!
Authentic no frils restaurant with delicious flavorful food and not overly spicy. Good portions and great value. Ample seating area. Friendly service! We enjoyed the Chana Masala and aloo Gobi and shared a vegetable rice. Delicious and satisfying.
Dera Restaurant is right in the heart of Jackson Heights’ Bangladeshi/Pakistani area, and the food gives off authentic Pakistani vibes to some extent. I tried the mutton kadai, chicken korma, chicken and mutton seekh kababs, tandoori roti, and chicken biryani, everything was flavorful and well-made. The place was packed, and the service was excellent, with energetic young ladies serving quickly and efficiently. Nice overall experience!
Very tasty food, ok ambience, helpful staff. It does get pretty busy during weekends/evenings but there's plenty of seating. The food was served promptly and was really delicious. I recommend you get the chicken, palak, channa masala dishes. Naans are pretty big. Raita was pretty good too. We did not like the bhindi masala and chicken kebab that much but they were ok. Most of the dishes and naan are pretty oily.
This is an old school OG Pakistani restaurant in NY. Been going here for years, HUGE selection of authentic and good Pakistani food. They have anything you can think of, curries, kebabs, rices, Nihari, piya, daals, biryani, pulao, keema, haleem, all types of naans, rotis & paratha and every type of sweets you can think of. Large seating area. Prices have gone up over the years but still worth it.
No frills icon in Jackson Heights, Queens. Pulled up here on a whim and it did not disappoint. We ordered the aloo baingan (potato + eggplant), beef nihari, chicken tikka (not pictured) and plain naan. All dishes were cooked to perfection and spice level was very tolerable, didn’t light your mouth on fire. Complimentary raita (yogurt) and salad were a nice touch. For dessert we tried their falooda (ice cream + noodles + basil seeds + rose syrup). Ice cream portion was good, the rest was not. Would not get again. Chai was also pretty mediocre. Skip dessert and tea and focus on the food. Overall: 7/10
The lamb chop was very old, extremely crispy, and dry, so it was not good. We were disappointed with that dish. However, everything else was good, and the rest of the food and service were fine. Overall, we were not happy with the lamb chop, but everything else was okay.
This restaurant my first experience in NY was the best desi food I have ever eaten the food was really good service was kind but the naan were a little late and we had to wait like 30 min for it and also chicken tikka nd naan were burnt and over cooked the place was good but the washroom was really dirty and was bad
I have gathered a lot of good memories attached with my friends at Dera. It's been a part of parties of all good news and fun. The food is great in this restaurant and so is the customer service. The only thing I don't like about this restaurant is that the tables are arranged in a cramped manner. If someone in your neighoring table sneezes, say good bye to your food! Some of the times that are a must try is either their biryani or pulao, beef nihari, haleem is average, kebabs are average (P.S. order from Kebabish), they have good kashmiri chai and Irani chai, and any kind of bread from their tandoor oven is great (I like the kheema naan). There isn't much of a dessert menu as they also sell sweets which are so many!!! You can pick and choose the one you want either to go or to eat. After the meal it is best to have a PAAN which you can find in a small Indian deli kind of store opposite to Dera.
Indian bucket food at its best, that's how I'd describe Dera. You can never go wrong with delicious Biryani or the different chicken curries that they have on display. Reasonably priced too. If you order their Malai Kebabs or Chicken Sheekh Kebabs, they are always made to order and so taste absolutely fresh and delicious and are cooked to perfection. The kebabs are marinated for a good 48 hours ensuring all the spices and juices are sucked in by the meat. They have a very attentive staff, friendly and alert. Paying cash will get you a discount!
Dera Restaurant in Jackson Heights, New York, is a popular spot for authentic Pakistani cuisine, offering flavorful dishes like nihari, biryani, and kebabs. The food is the highlight, with rich spices and generous portions. However, the dining experience is somewhat marred by inconsistent service and concerns about cleanliness. Despite these drawbacks, it’s a go-to for those craving traditional flavors in a casual, no-frills setting. Perfect for a hearty meal, especially during festive occasions like Ramadan.
This is my best friends absolute favorite place and she has been talking about this non-stop. I had a paper due today so suddenly craved desi food. Traveled an hour to go to Dera and we ordered Channa Masala, Beef Nehari, Parathas, Goat Pulao, Bihari Kebab and Teas. Channa Masal was okay on its own. Could be better with parsley/cilantro garnish. The complimentary salad actually works with it. Squeeze bit of lemon and it would be perfect. Beef nehari was really good. I like the texture and the meat was very tender. The soup(jhol) was not to oily. Found the Tawa Paratha bit oily compared to other places that serve paratha. But it wasn’t too bad. Goat pulao had more rice and I kind of like it like that. But the taste was bit bland. This again can be fixed with sides of salad and lemon. The star to me was the tea and the Bihari Kebab. It was soooo good and the right amount of spice. The had spicy kick to it and not overworking. I ordered some sweets to go and I was really surprised to find Shon Papri (I am not sure what they call it but this is how I locally know it. I basically got bunch of sweets that I felt like would be yummy from display so can’t name them all) I got one order of rasmalai which my friend sweared on and it really was worth it. Its not too sweet but made me go “mmh” when I took a bite. The service was very good considering they pack our leftovers for us which majority places don’t do. Wrapped everything in white cling wrap. And the lady explained the sweets well when I was checking on display. Will definitely go back for breakfast next time and also try other items from the menu.
The yogurt was a little tasteless and qorma was too gooey but nonetheless I really enjoyed the food. The butter chicken we got was excellent and among the best I’ve had. Biryani was also pretty good even as someone who is not a fan of biryani. The waiters and service was A1. Overall I’d definitely go again.
The food was delicious, perfectly Desi style and amazing, plus the staff were kind! but the thing that kind of disappointed me was that the chicken tikka and naan were burnt on the side….. but otherwise the food was perfect and great, yummy. But pls improve on the naan and chicken tikka. Would recommend this restaurant!! :)
Recent visit: We decided to give Dera another chance. We went there on Saturday around noon, an extremely busy place with an army of servers. We seated immediately, and the order was taken. We ordered Reshmi Tikka (6 pcs chicken, recommended by the manager), tandoori beef bihari kabab, and beef paya, canned drinks, and Falooda. The service was fast, and the food was served within 10 minutes. The server forgot our drinks, and I had to ask another server for our drinks. I thought the reshmi tikka was juicy tender and very flavourful. Bihari kabab had the perfect flavor but was very dry, I had to dip it in green mint chutney compromising the flavors. The beef paya stole the show. The meat was perfectly cooked, so perfect that it was sticking to the bone but melting in my mouth like butter. Not overly spiced. I haven't had such a tasty stew in North America. Falooda was not overly sweet, a nice presentation, topped with rooh afza with a very thick milky texture with hints of khoya. We also tried ghulab jaman, burfi, and rus gulla. They had an authentic taste. The food prices are very economical for every budget. The management seemed serious about their food, and I complemented the manager for the quality and taste of the food. They charge gratuity if you dine in. Always check your bill as I was over charged for a bottle of water that I had brought with me, and the server immediately took it off the bill. I will definitely visit this place again.
I have been coming to Dera Restaurant in Jackson Heights for many years. It is one of the most well-known South Asian restaurants in the neighborhood, serving Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi food. It has been around for a long time and is a familiar name in the community. Over the years, I do feel the overall quality has declined compared to how it used to be. The service is decent but not as attentive or warm as it once was. It is not bad, but it does not feel as consistent as before. The last time I visited, I ordered goat paya only. The paya itself was good, but what truly stood out was the naan. That naan honestly reminded me of how amazing this place used to be. It was perfectly made. The size was just right. There was no extra flour on it. The texture was soft with a slight crisp on the edges. The sesame seeds were evenly placed and added great flavor. It was fresh, well cooked, and very satisfying. Easily one of the best naans I have had in a while. They offer plenty of variety overall, including curries, grilled items, rice dishes, and sweets displayed at the counter. Vegetarian options are available, though it is not ideal for strict vegetarians. If you ask the staff, they will guide you on what can be ordered without meat. Parking remains one of the biggest challenges. There is no dedicated lot anymore. Street parking in that area is extremely difficult, and most options are paid. It can take time and patience to find a spot. Overall, it is still an okay place with some strong dishes and good variety. It just does not feel like the same restaurant it once was, though that naan was definitely a highlight.
Not good 😔😵 Street food without the street. Service was good. The food was definitely not restaurant quality. The atmosphere was a mixed bag of nuts. The people seemed friendly and minding their own business but the setup as far as wet tables and small plastic cups for tap water. Not to mention having to fight off the flies. So many nice restaurants in this area. This will be one to pass up.
I was here years ago. Recently came for dinner. If you come late all the good dishes are already gone. Butterchicken was good. Goat curry was very yummy. Naan was not bad but can improve. The desserts sweets were not bad.
Food was ok Not like a real Pakistani food. I didn’t like sadda naan after that I ordered sesame naan.I expected really lahori naan
Food is very good as expected but the waiting time is over an hour. If you are very hungry and you are there at dining hour and can't wait long, better go elsewhere. The price is fair. We ordered beef nehari, chicken haleem, shamu kebabs, dhal, naan and paratha for about $60. Parking is very difficult to get so it is better to use public transportation instead. It is a very busy restaurant so expect loud overlapping chatters but it was a good experience. We took a corner table and it was nice.
I have eaten here only twice. This time around they flopped on an order. I ordered "chicken bihari kabab" what they gave me is basically chicken just grilled up. No flavor no nothing. And i feel like they were old. Just look at the picture. Most items are good here. Naan was almost perfect. Service was okay too.
They deserve 5 stars but I am giving 3 because they made a mistake. We were 6 people, and ate lots of food. Suddenly they gave us a Bodna( Lota- jag ) plain lacci. We didn’t order it. We thought it was complimentary because they left on the table without saying anything. But they charge $15 for it. The Lacci was sweet liquid yogurt not better than that. However, the food was very good. Specially Goat curry and goat biriany. Chicken curry wasn’t good. Service was fast and friendly. You have be careful about extra stuff they gave without notice.
Management must re vist all customers service guidelines. Too crody with in sitting area, must reduce sitting area, food is not fresh, it smell badly, Management must set siting with nice gap between next customers table. Waiter must wear hands glows and head cover. Its look to me they are not comply local authorities compliances. It is better to maintain standard of services.
We kept the menu simple: paya, daal mash, and naan, since we had already eaten earlier in the evening. The food was tasty—especially the paya, which was full of flavor. But the cleanliness was disappointing. The place was crowded, hot, and felt suffocating. The restroom was for customers only, but even then, it wasn’t clean—which really shouldn’t be the case. ⭐ Food: 8/10 🧼 Cleanliness: 3/10 📍 Crowded, hot atmosphere 💭 Great taste, but hygiene needs serious improvement.
First of all I ordered garlic naan but looks like I got regular naan no garlic and no cilantro at all. Secondly inside atmosphere wasn’t good at all . They left the outside door open all time inside got really cold because of that. Customer service not good at all . And finally my butter chicken there wasn’t enough chicken at all just curry 👎
The service was amazing. When it comes to food I have some reservations. Goat Karahi has no flavour but meat was tender. I tried Daal fry and it was again no flavour. Like their Roti more than Naan. Faloda was ok but jalaibi I did not like. Tea was ok. I don't eat spicy but this was bland even for me.
Disappointing Experience – Not Authentic Nihari We went specifically to try their nihari based on a friend’s recommendation, but it was a big disappointment. It wasn’t authentic nihari at all — more like a basic beef curry made with Shan or National nihari recipe mix masala. The chicken keema naan was just okay. The place itself also wasn’t very clean. Overall, not recommended.
I love food from this place, been eating there for years! Only recently I noticed when I order meat or chicken dish, I get bones, sometimes no meat and that dish usually between $12-14! Just not nice to do that! I think the guy who makes the order does that on purpose because it happened more than once, a few times actually! I find that ver very disrespectful! I have been customer for over 10 years or more, it was never been like that. I hope they fix that issue and stop giving customers bones, no one want order or eat bones . I attached a photo of a chicken dish I ordered had 2 bones which has less to no meat on them and a big pepper 🌶 !!! Waste of money on that order. I won't order meat dishes from them again, there are plenty of stores around them. Seems like something changed, price went up and food quantity is down!!!! If you dont have anything but bones, don't serve it at all! They did the same with a goat karahi they gave me bones, I was eating in, so I gave him the dish back and he didn't find meat to serve me so he gave me from another goat dish!!!!! My advise to all customers to check their meat others before they leave the store and find out they paid $14 for bones when they are home .
Waking in Jackson area we were looking for a descent restaurant to have some Indian delicacies. Google showed Dera nearby. It looked descent from outside. Inside ambiance was another story. For whatever reason servers were not into what they were doing. Smiles and connecting with customer was not their forte.. Aloo tikki was served without any condiments so was grilled chicken. You had to ask for everything. I really felt bad about the staff. In my mind they represent the state of management. I would not recommend this place.
the Bihari kababs and sesame naan were both great, but the place itself is very unclean. the tables weren’t properly cleaned when we were seated, and neither were the floors. the bathrooms were also gross. all of this makes me wonder how unhygienic the kitchen must be.
Everything looks and tastes like it has been sitting out all day and had been reheated (and not even reheated well because it’s still semi-cold). None of the food tastes fresh, it’s all stale, dry, and cold. The Aloo Tikka and Beef Shami Kebab both visually look like they were frozen and reheated and they taste that way as well. The Vegetable Samosa and Chapli Kabab were hard and dry. The Chicken Seekh Kabab tasted okay, it was just too oily. And the Chicken Biryani and Pulao was also okay, but the chicken was dry (though a large portion of chicken). Maybe the food is better if you dine in, but as a delivery option, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Do not ever go to this place food is so stain so bad smell really bad do. It ever spend your money or times at this place make sure this place has to close they are selling worst food in all over the world someone has to take serious action at this place and close down this food is not for any living person
I wish I can rate -1000 for this restaurant Being their customer from last 10 years But now their quality become terrible and they raise the price and make container small and quality is really terrible I just bought two full order or korma and chicken Achari and I specifically told them please less oil and look all I got is oil and the size of container is like small order I paid $9 for each curry and get only oil with spices Owner should ashamed of himself and stop ripping off community !! All he does is walk around and chilling on table with friends Like no care about customers and restaurant standard
Worst!!!!! Ordered my food and they miss one of my item. And when I call them what they will do about it, person from that side : we can’t help with it!!!!! No nothing about compensation Disgusted!!!! Also chana look like it’s swimming in oil .. First and last order!! Even my dog won’t eat it …
Big price for small food Quality very bad Uncooked meat Tandoori roti So thin by that by the time u get it it is hard as rock Once has meat dish was stinking of rotten meat And un cooked meat Kababs are given to customers made king before turned hard and not fresh Check the bathrooms Filthy stinky Don’t even have paper towel for drying hands Seen Rats running around
The food tasted microwaved and definitely not fresh. Within hours, my mother and I both experienced diarrhea and stomach pain .This raises serious concerns about the restaurant’s food quality and hygiene. I am considering taking legal action due to the impact on our health, and I would not recommend dining here.
When you eat in they give a generous amount of food but when you take out they give you in a small box with mostly bones and neck for the chicken biryani… we went there to visit and had lunch there and they gave us a generous portion but we took some food to go for dinner and the portions was half if not more that was served to us earlier. Didn’t happen once but always as we live in a different state and go there once a while to visit.
The food is not the same as used too be. The keer and Rasmalie and everything else are not the same they are putting gulab jaman in milk and selling it as rasmalie. I was not going to give even one star. I am been coming to this place for the last 9 years I know how their food tested before. I will not recommend anyone to go to there. The staff are not friendly I asked Them why it is not the same they were ignoring me.
I went to this restaurant all the way from long island and i ordered 16 peices of ras malai i took ho e we ate 4 and kept in the fridge this morning when we open rest 12 it smells so bad and taste bad also and i called them they were not accepting there mistake also. Please guys be careful before you order the food from this resturant make sure ya kids dont get sick. Im not going to this resturant ever again
Such a horrible service. The girl there she was rude. Her expression was like that she is forced to do that job. If I would have a option of zero star I would definitely gave you.
I visited this place 2years ago and from them i want to visit again. Finally i visited this place in 2026. Not only me, me and my friends visited this place. I gave lot of hype for them about this place. But literally they didn’t reach any expectations. I was very disappointed with their food and literally its not the same like before. Many of friends also said the same about food. I was very disappointed 😔
This is the worst manangement. The waitress you have, they are both only disrespectful and also they look like they are tired and they don’t want to give service to the customer. The bathrooms are dirty and the dining rooms are so dirty. You should have someone to clean. You are going to loose customers with this waitress you have.
Went with my family for first time for dinner. Extremely disappointed. Ordered Chicken karahi and tikka boti. There is no fresh food. Only reheated food is served in microwave. Food is served in plates(even karahi order was brought in a plate). I couldn’t believe they called that chicken curry as “Chicken Karahi” (picture added below), Felt nauseated after few bites. Had to eat simple naan only to remove my appetite. Mango lassi was far below any standard. Extremely noisy and loud environment. Very close seating with no privacy. They charge extra for credit card payment. Take cash but still automatically charge service fee. Extremely bad experience. Was first time there but also last time. Thank you.
I’m writing this from my bathroom floor, praying for the sweet release of death—or at least for the Pepto-Bismol to kick in. If you value your intestinal lining, run far away from this place. It started going downhill the second we walked in. The "aroma" that hit us wasn't food; it was a damp, musty rag smell mixed with bleach trying (and failing) to cover up something sour. We should have turned around when we saw the sticky menus. They had a film on them that actually made the paper napkin stick to the surface. I ordered the special, and that’s when the nightmare began. The chicken arrived with a texture I can only describe as "tragic." It had that wet, squeaky feeling against my teeth—you know, the kind that tells you it's been sitting under a heat lamp since the previous administration was in office. I took a bite, and it was somehow both dry and slimy. The accompanying gravy had a skin on top that wobbled like a horror movie prop. The real kicker was the side salad. I found a long, black hair coiled up in the ranch dressing like a sleeping snake. When I pointed it out to the server, she didn't apologize. She just sighed, looked at it, and said, "Oh, that's not mine, my hair is brown," before snatching the plate away with her thumb in the new dressing. I watched her walk to the back and saw the cook through the pass—a guy with a sweat-soaked grey t-shirt, scratching his bare arm (the one not holding the tongs) right over the prep station. To top it off, the bathroom was a biohazard. The hand dryer smelled like burning dust and the handle to get out was slick with the essence of every person who didn't wash their hands. I honestly think I got food poisoning just from touching the door. If you enjoy living life on the edge, maybe this is the place for you. But if you don't want to spend the night in a cold sweat questioning every life choice that led you to this moment, go somewhere else. Anywhere else. A gas station hot dog would have been safer.
This used to be one of the og places to get paya among other amazing dishes. But now this place has gone downhill. We ordered both goat and beef paya and it was bad. It tasted awful. And it was served cold too. The naans were doughy, the Aluchana tasted like nothing. Tandoori chicken was burnt. And rohu fish fry smelt wrong like it was old. Alu paratha was very bad too. Overall experience was very bad.
I drove 40 minutes to Jackson Heights for Nihari from Dera, but instead of getting proper meat, they gave me a big rubbery piece of goat that was completely inedible. This was very disappointing and unacceptable. It feels like they don’t provide the same quality of food to takeout or delivery customers as they do for dine-in customers, which is unfair. I was really looking forward to enjoying the meal, but they completely ruined the experience. I will not be ordering from here again and would not recommend this place.
I bought 16 pieces rusmalai and when i open at home its spoiled like they used some glue material to made the rusmalai and when i try to mix it it doesnt mix it was totally sticky i didnt understand what happened to there rusmalai quality they used to sell best quality rusmalai, i always go there to buy rusmalai all the way from bronx ny

What people say about Dera
Dera: Jackson Heights' Authentic Flavor Haven You Need to Know
Jackson Heights is a culinary playground, and tucked amidst its vibrant streets is Dera, a spot that's quickly become a favorite for those craving truly authentic Indian, Pakistani, and Bengali flavors. I recently spent some time digging into their menu, and let me tell you, this place delivers. The buzz around their Bihari Kabab is no exaggeration.
