Very nice little place. Dont let the appearance of the outside fool you. Was pleasantly surprised to find live music being played inside. The food was delicious and the staff was helpful. Very nice place for a date or get together with friends or family. Try the empanadas or plantains. Very delicious! I will definitely be returning!
In town for a night, the staff from Holiday Inn recommended Sangria for dinner. We ordered the grilled octopus, which was sizzling, very tender and flavorful. We also ordered the chicken empanadas which were good, very hot (heat hot) and seafood mushrooms served with a delicious sauce. Topped off with a half pitcher of Red Sangria, great music I can highly recommend this restaurant.
Overall, the dining experience was good. However, apparently, they allow vaping indoors, which, if you are sensitive and have breathing issues it will affect your dining experience. I didn't see any notice that it was allowed. Had II, I would have chosen another place to dine.
Stopped in to meet my dad while we had a long layover at jfk. We ordered off the tapas menu and everything was great! We got fried calamari, seafood stuffed mushrooms, shrimp in spicy butter sauce, and patatas bravas. Wish it was closer to where i live so i could go more often.
Great local place with great service, delicious food at the right price! I can't get enough of this place! I also have them deliver food when I don't feel like going out. Joe, his wife, Van and the staff are great! I have held 3 business luncheons with 25-30 people at the height of lunch hour and they still delivered the food to the table hot, delicious and in short order! The salads are to die for, grilled veggies, black beans, spicy potatoes, pasta are favorites, cause I'm a vegetarian, but my meat and fish eating friends rave about those dishes, too...AND it's centrally located near LIRR, subways and expressways...as you can see, I'm a fan!!!
This is a great little restaurant and bar, we wanted a light meal. 2 Tapas plates, a salad and soup hit the spot. We tried the shrimp in a butter garlic sauce, and a plate of chicken empanadas. The meal was perfect, so we went for desert. Creme Catalina, and Tres Leches. All reasonably priced. Located right across from a Hi Express hotel, 3 blocks from Jamaica Station and JFK train.
Oh my, what a diamond in the (not so) rough. Food and service are absolutely amazing!! Jazz and karaoke nights?! What more can you ask for? And again, the staff is always great. If I could give more stars, I would.
I stayed in a nearby hotel for several days. I ate here 3 times. Delicious food. The branzino (fish) and the "Caldo de Gallina" were awesome.
Atmosphere is excellent, service is excellent, food is outstanding. You can tell it's only the highest quality ingredients. Prices are fair, especially for the quality flof foos your great. Great spot!
The food was so good. And the staff in there are so friendly.. i just forgot takong pictures with the foods. But it was a mushrooms with seafoods on it and side of yellow rice and i order also an chicken noodles soup. My husband ordered a wrap bacon shrimp and a side of fries. And after that we order the New York Cheesecake!! Omg it was all good.
Got to the resturant at 10:45. Asked the waiter if the kitchen was still open due to the fact they close at 12am. I was told not to worry and enjoy the tropical sangria we ordered. The vibe of the place is wonderful and when the food did arrive it was beyond words amazing. What all homestyle should taste like. The staff makes you feel like family even if its your first time. Thank you to the staff for making my Saturday night with friend truly amazing.
One night layover at the hotel opposite led us here and we really enjoyed the food, the service and the ambiance of the place, the staff were really welcoming and attentive, the food was great with plenty of options and the price was very reasonable, the wine was also good and very reasonably priced. .
This is such an awesome restaurant. My husband heard about their ratings and decided to surprised me. We went here for dinner and it was really nice. Food was great. Alex.. Our waiter was the nicest. Will absolutely recommend this place
"Don't wander off" they said. Well if you do, wander here, it's a great place to be! The food is top notch, the service is great, and the staff and owner take pride in their place. No matter where you live or why you're here, you should give Sangria a try. Oh, and try the Sangria too.
Amazing food and environment Ze the owner is a gem on customer service
Love the food and the service the young lady Ana give to the clients is so lovely I’m coming here to eat more often
Wonderful experience. Warm atmosphere. Good food and great people. What else can you ask for in a local restaurant where you feel right at home?
The couple of times i had visited, food always fresh & flavorful. Thanks chef roxanna. Joe was super nice and very accommodating to us when we had ordered food for a luncheon at work ( Scrumptious)... Customer care excellent! The stablishment's ambiance very inviting and relaxing. Pleasant staff!!
The wait staff at Sangria were exceptional—friendly, attentive, and incredibly patient. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. As for the food, I had the Peri Peri Chicken, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Every bite was bursting with flavor, leaving me feeling like I had just discovered a hidden culinary gem. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between casual and intimate, making it ideal for both a relaxed meal or a special night out. Overall, my experience was a solid 10/10, and I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.
I just a pitcher of red sangría, the service is good and fast, the ambiance is nice and cool.
I'm from out of town and driving back from JFK to NJ with my girlfriend and her cousin. The girls got hungry, it was already 9:30 PM I Googled places to eat nearby as I was driving and this place popped up. Wasn't sure if it was a safe area but we took a chance. Couldn't believe it. The place was like a diamond in the rough. Great food, pleasant clientele, waiter was helpful and attentive. This was well worth the trip! Great place for a date too.
Delicious! So many menu choices. We all shared!
It's a very nice little place, they have a live Jazz band on Wednesdays, the drummer also does a karaoke night. He's absolutely fantastic, very funny and no matter how many or little people are there he tries to involve everyone there, it's great.. If you participate you get a little trophy 🏆 you must go at least once.. it really is a little hidden gem!! 💎😉
Love their happy hour, with very tasty empanadas and chicken skewers! Red, white, sparkling sangrias are amazing. Also tried Paella Marineska, even portion for 1 person could be enough for two (if not too hungry), and the presentation is great.
Just wanted to share my recent experience at this amazing restaurant. The food was absolutely fantastic and the ambience was top-notch. Trust me, you don't want to miss their Jazz night every Wednesday. It's a hidden gem worth checking out.
I love this place. Been going here for years and food is delicious especially paella. The atmosphere is great as well. It’s the typical place you’d want to spend an easy going evening in peace with good music and good food.
Great food, 10 out of 10, Staff was very attentive and friendly Atmosphere was perfect for a date or a group diner. Sangria was amazing . Highly recommend.
I had the chicken noodle soup and fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Way better than I expected for a restaurant with such a large Mexican menu. 1 of the best alfredo sauces I have had. Better than an Italian restaurant. Highly reccomend. Come hungry. I couldn't finish it all. Soup was awesome too. Loved the shredded chicken in it.
Abundant portions. Delightful happy service. Busy post church atmosphere. Great margaritas. Didn't take photos as I was hungry. Will return.
This place is great. They have really customer service. The waitress was very attentive and everything came out pretty fast. You can also taste the freshness of the food. Also the portion of food given is a good size for one person. I would definitely recommend this place anyone who likes Spanish food. I will definitely be back!!
Live blocks away and it’s a very good neighborhood small cozy warm atmosphere. All the times I been there not once have a problem. Food and drinks is great 👍🏾 large amount of food serving as well. Very close to the LIRR, E & J subway trains, Airtrain to JFK - all just one block away.
I spent my 21st birthday in Sangria & I have to say, everything was absolutely amazing. As I entered the bar, I felt relaxed. Ever since then, I continuously went back. The service is 10/10, very friendly, & caring. Their food is absolutely well cooked & delicious. All their drinks are also nice & refreshing. What really attracts me is their steak, buffalo wings, & rum punch. I have yet to try their other foods & I have no doubt that it'll be as awesome as the food I already ate from there. I can definitely say this is the best bar/restaurant in Queens ;)
Great place, very near Jamaica station. A perfect place to eat while waiting for a plane at JFK. Great food and tapas selection was strong. They have a deal for happy hour when I was there from 3-7 so you can save a few bucks on some tapas and have money for more. House wine and sangria was excellent. Tres leches cake was among the best I have had. The guy running the place was cool, had no problem letting me sit there for 3 hours with my bags and let me take a chair outside to enjoy an after dinner cigar around the back of the restaurant. First class. I recommend.
On our way to JFK, we made a pit stop at this gem of a restaurant. Luckily it was Wednesday night (live Jazz music by Freddy Dugard band - these guys are amazing). OMG - the octopus, the tortilla espanola, better than Spain 😉😋. Will definitely return not only for the outstanding food, but also for the live music.
So delicious!! My server Paul was friendly and personable. I tried two different sangrias and both were tasty. The stuffed mushrooms were flavorful and well balanced. I met the owner at the end of my meal who was great and does a lot to help the local community which is worth supporting. Eat slow, savor each bite and enjoy each sip.
Great food amazing staff - from the sanitation worker
Fantastic food; clean establishment; great service. Highly recommend!
This place is amazing! The food was not only delicious but also came out very fast. The Sangria was full of fresh fruit and made very well. We had such great service from Anna, our server, we highly recommend this cute spot with live jazz music!
We would like to say what an oasis of paradise this place is. From tantalizing tapas appetizers, spring herb mixed salads, and mouthwatering always fresh entrees to the tropical and red Sangria served in aunthentic clay pitchers from Portugal, every item on the menu rocks! Big ups to Joe and all the staff for being the only supper club in Jamaica, Queens, today that has kept live jazz music alive for over a decade by featuring Dugardz HitSquad. Without a doubt, Sangria Restaurant and Bar is the place to be! We ♥️ it there.
Good coffee. I had the chicken croquettes. Staff was really nice and accommodating. The food seems like a mix of Latin cultures.
-- **If I could give this establishment a negative number so large it collapses into a black hole, I would.** I entered this place with hope in my heart and left questioning every life choice that led me to its front door. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by an atmosphere so bleak it felt like the lighting was powered by pure disappointment. The air carried a scent that I can only describe as “wet cardboard mixed with regret.” Even my shoes seemed to squeak in protest, as if trying to escape. The seating situation deserves its own paragraph. The chairs weren’t just uncomfortable—they were philosophical torture devices. When I sat down, I swear I aged five years. My spine cried out for mercy, and I briefly considered writing my last will right there on the napkin, which, by the way, was thinner than a conspiracy theory. Now, the food. Oh, the food. The dish that arrived in front of me looked like it had been prepared by someone who had only *heard rumors* about cooking. The texture shifted between crunchy and mushy at such unpredictable intervals that I began to suspect it was alive. The flavor—if one could call it that—was a remarkable blend of bitterness, sadness, and something that reminded me of the smell of old batteries. I’ve seen cafeteria mystery meat with clearer identity. Service? The staff moved with the urgency of a sloth on vacation. When my server finally approached, they stared at me with the expression of someone who had spiritually departed their body long ago. I asked for water, and fifteen minutes later, they brought me something that tasted like it had passed through three different pipes and a mild existential crisis. Even the music was suffering. It wasn’t just bad—it was so off-key and staticky that it sounded like a broken radio playing from underwater. At one point, I wasn’t sure if the music was real or if my brain had started hallucinating in self-defense. By the time I fled—*fled*, not left—I had never felt such unity between mind, body, and soul in wanting to never return. This place didn’t simply disappoint me; it reshaped the way I understand disappointment as a concept. **In conclusion: 0/10. I need therapy and possibly a tetanus shot.** ---
This is a great spot in this area, food was phenomenal and the drinks were amazing. Our server Ana was awesome as well. If I have another long layover in JFK we are definitely coming back!
Honestly - when it's a bit busy in the restaurant, they could use more wait staff which is why I'm handing them a "4". This actually pales in comparison to their amazing tapas! Even more notable is the grilled octopus. I've eaten grilled octopus from at least six establishments from Forest Hills to Roslyn and I can state - hands down, Sangria had THE best octopus! Just so you know, they are the only place that serves it up, to your table..... SIZZLING! NO ONE HAS TOUCHED THEM IN MY TEN YEARS OF PATRONAGE! Dine-in, take-out or delivery...the same If you don't agree, tell the owner to contact me and I will remove my post! p.s. Light and up-tempo music on Wednesdays and every other Thursday. A must visit folks!
Cozy and Spectacular. This place is an unexpected unicorn of places! The staff are beyond welcoming and kind. The menu is extensive and vegetarian friendly. The beer selection is just unreal! And the liquors!!! Must be 400+. On-tap Sangria!! Big screens at the bar, music playing, exceptional service and just WOW. 3 blocks from the subway and LIRR in Jamaica! 10 stars. Exceptional.
Had some time before our flight so decided to stop in Jamaica for late lunch. Sangria was very close to the station and had good reviews and boy oh boy we were not disappointed!! The sangria was so good, but the food was amazing!! Highly recommend the seafood stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped shrimp, empanadas and the seafood Paella. Nice atmosphere and service was great. Nice little find and glad we stopped!!
We had a layover at JFK and wanted someplace nice to eat close to the Jamaica Airtrain station. A 3 block walk got us just what we wanted. Sangria has a great neighborhood vibe and friendly staff. Drink prices were great and the Tropical Sangria hit the spot. We had the red snapper and prawns for two with salad - loads of food cooked perfectly. A quick and easy trip out of the terminal and the perfect option for great food.
Live music jazz music on Wednesday which was great to experience. The vibe is chill hear and the food and drinks are nice. I had the pork belly , it was delicious. The Portuguese chorizo was passable. But this is a nice place to hang out at the bar or sit and eat. They have a happy hour where you get a discount on the appetizers , each appetizer will go for $5 in the earlier hours so try taking advantage of that too
Went there to celebrate my birthday with my family. We ordered some tapas (empanadas, chicken quesadillas, Buffalo wings and the pepper steak). They were delicious! If we could have drank the sauce from the pepper steak, we would have. For dinner, we ordered Caesar salad wrap, Cuban sandwich ( which my daughter said was the best Cuban sandwich she ever had), my son and husband ordered the mixed meat platter (which they inhaled) and I had the skirt steak Sangria. The food was amazing and delicious! For dessert we tried to the flan, tres leeches cake and churros. We ate everything. We ordered a pitcher of red sangria which was enjoyed immensely. The wait staff was attentive and food was served in a timely manner. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean and we there was hand sanitizer on the table which I appreciated. We will be coming back to this place!!
So my coworkers and I have just recently heard about this restaurant which is not too far from our office We placed an order today for delivery The food was delivered in a quick timely manner and very hot! I will go down the line of what each of us ordered Pasta Bolognese Portuguese Wrap with homemade potato chips Shrimp Parmesan with homemade potato chips Sangria burger with homemade potato chips Caprese Salad ( mozzarella and tomato ) - I added grilled chicken to this salad Pork Chops with Carmelized Onions with homemade potato chips The delivery came with lots of utensils, napkins The food was so delicious- and large portions of everything ! we all enjoyed our dishes ! We are definately going to be placing future orders here!! Thank You Sangria for this delicious food !!!
Me and family searching a restaurant that close to Jamaica Multiplex cinema. We choose this restaurant because it has a good reviews. We went and found the new year eve vibes and very good ambiance. Staffs were so nice. We order a food and after that we decided not to go for cinema and spent whole time in the restaurant. The restaurant management is so nice that they serve a bottle of Champagne, cookies and new year accessories as a complement for all their customer. Food is delicious. Dj was so excellent and dancing floor is open to dance. We enjoyed and lot of tanks. We will come back soon.
loved this place. it's Americanized tapas, but they were delicious. It was a great spot to meet friends for dinner, small sports bar area with locals mingling. Nice atmosphere. Cons: they use giant oversized plates for each tapa. Why?
Sangria's food is absolutely amazing. We chose this for our first dine out. We were all vaccinated, so we felt comfortable dining, and while all the servers and bartenders were masked, most of the customers took masks off once seated. The tapas were delicious, so we're the entrees. No complaints. We're so glad this place survived the pandemic.
I like this place. Especially on their live Jazz night on Wednesday. We usually order fish dishes, salmon and shrimp and the food is always good. Management is very hospitable. Came one night. There was a big party and all were dressed up. We had on jeans and was going to leave and the manage insisted that we stay. Parking on the street is sometimes a problem because I can't walk far. Nice way to spend an evening without having to go far
Went for my Aunts bday. It was nice really a neighborhood spot. Food was decent and drinks was on point. All in all a cool local spot. I would not go out my way to visit.
Good vibes, better food, fair prices and great service. Had late lunch / early dinner at the bar. First rate Cubana panini, followed by excellent flan. Plan on becoming a regular.
Food here is usually very tasty. Good size portions, small enough to be cozy. Nothing fancy but worth a visit
Choose this area because of the good reviews Food was not bad. We ordered pasta and paella pasta was not bad however the paella my friend told me was so so.. the drinks are nice Only problem is we waited for almost an hour for appetizer then another 15mins for the main dish. There’s not much customer
The pitcher was very nice, we really enjoyed it. Try it when you get here, you won’t be disappointed. We ordered the tropical flavor. The calamari was very fresh too. The only thing we were disappointed with was our bill. The menu had shown the pitcher to be $32 but our bill said $35. We informed the waitress and she didn’t adjust it down when we referenced what the menu had said. Not that big of a deal but we would like to see the menu updated next time or the waitress informing us in advance of any price changes. Other than that, we’ll be back.
Great local spot! Went here to dine w my mum and it was a week night during the holidays season and one of the owners was tending to the whole restaurant by himself, working the tables and the bar and he still managed to make light convo and laughter. Our drinks were also reasonably priced and the small plates were lovely. I especially loved the cod fish fritters and the spinach sauteed with garlic. It is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or going to and from JFK and have hunger that needs taking care of.
The food is ok. Paella was a bit salty. Our waiter was great until the end. We requested 2 separate checks for our party and he said yes. However, when the bill came, there was only one check and we had a problem.
Got some shrimp tacos and the guacamole was bad and they would take it back. The cook saying the guacamole was good. The guacamole was definitely spoiled
The food was great but the staff was unprofessional to say the least. I walked in with my husband and everyone was watching tv. No one would stand up to help us, no one asked us "how can I help you?" Or anything!! We had to ask the manager at the bar if we could sit down and order food! The manager was asking a waiter to come serve us and a lady came and asked us what we wanted to drink. That was it! She never came back to ask us what we wanted to order! We then called the manager again so we could order our food. We figured if he had to ask a waiter to do her job, it made no sense to complain to him about his staff. We will never go back here!!!
This place use to be a 5 even with the owner being a bit of a snob. The food use too be so good . They have fell off big time and have increased the prices. It went from being a hidden gem to just a place to get something that’s ok to eat if ur starving and in the neighborhood.
My 2nd visit in three weeks and each time there was an event. Someone having a holiday party during my first visit. We had to wait over an hour for our food. I had the Cod Fish and it was delicious. During my visit last night, they were having a customer appreciation night. Our orders were wrong and my veggies were cold and the peppers and onions were missing from my chicken. There is one waitress who waited on us during both visits and her attitude leaves a lot to be desired. When you ask her what sides come with a meal, she will tell you rice and beans only. But when you ask how about vegetables then she goes down the list of available sides that you can have with your meal. She also seems rushed. Maybe because she is at the bar and waiting tables. I don't know why when there is another staff. The vibe of the restaurant is great. They have karaoke, the decor is simple but cozy. It's been decades since I patronized Sangria. I may do so again but in a few months from now.
Food looks prettier than it taste
Their happy hour menu will make you unhappy because all the items on it aren't available despite them being on the menu
I got to Sangria just in time for happy hour (which ends at 7pm on weekdays), but the food and drinks were disappointing. The sangria tasted more like fruit juice than wine. If you want a virgin drink, the margarita is your best bet. Everything I ordered was from the happy hour menu. The chicken croquettes were decent, crispy on the outside and very soft/slightly mushy inside. The cod fritters were disappointing because they still had bones in them. Lastly, the chicken skewers (2) were the highlight. They were well seasoned, tasted fresh, and were the most satisfying dish I tried. Service was also great but I have no intentions of returning. 😕
Went for Happy Hour., it was very dry. The Happy Hour food was just OK. The Calamari was undercooked. Drink prices were good. Service was great.
This was our first time at this restaurant and it was visually a really nice looking place. We truly wanted to love this place. The bartender was wonderful, very accommodating and attentive which is a major plus to any place you dine. But unfortunately the food and cocktails were lacking massively. Which is the reason for the two stars. For my first cocktail i went for the classic Mojito and it was not well done. The mint was not fresh and i couldn't get the taste of lime and Bacardi. For the second cocktail I went for the Tropical sangria, again not well balanced. I didn't get the tropical flavor just wine and the fruit they choose to put in it were apples.....not very tropical. My dining partner was happy with his beer selection. For our Tapas we ordered Collard green soup which was heavily salted and oily, inedible and i like a slightly salty soup with warm bread. The Mussels were mediocre, Spicy garlic shrimp was good and the hit of the night was the Grilled Octopus and the Catalonia creme was nice For dessert. Overall, a make needs improvement. Which is a Shame because their menu of the day sounded amazing.
Place has too much potential to be boring. Drinks are good depending on who the bartender is, music is not great unless you pay for it through karaoke machine. Close to a few hotels walking distance, so easy to get to. Didn't try the food, doesn't seem like many ppl who sit in there are there for the food. They can do better.
The service was excellent and very prompt and the atmosphere was comfortable and warm and cozy for the time of year however the quality of the food was horrible. We had the garlic shrimp appetizer and the shrimp was not even cooked well into the garlic compote and had no flavor whatsoever We had the seafood paella which was tasteless and very watery it was a bowl of stale Seafood floating in rice that had almost no flavor whatsoever and was floating in a pool of water it was the worst paella that I had. Very disappointing food quality. I would not return here. Very overpriced and not a good value we spent almost $80 on a dinner for two that was tasteless and horrible.
The food was disgusting. The Greek salad was huge like for 4 people and gross. The pork belly was gross and tough you couldn’t even eat it. We asked for sweet plantain but got this smashed tostones nonsense. The paella was gross a huge pan for one person. $100 what a waste of money
It's just not what it used to be. The paella was watery with frozen green peas and over cooked seafood. I ordered steak medium, which came out overdone. Sadly I won't be visiting again.
They need new bartenders. The lady that served us at the bar was rude and she filled my drink which was a martini half way. When I asked her where was the rest of the drink, she said sorry but thats it and refused to correct it. I really should have spoke to the manager or owner who is a very nice man. I was extremely disappointed and left without ordering food because of her service.
