Really nice and welcoming place. We came late in a rainy evening, the place was almost empty but still the service was great and food was delicious! I would definitely come again.
Very cozy atmosphere, great service, and delicious food!!
Such a lovely spot in Julian. As far as I know, it’s the only Italian restaurant in town, which already makes it special for a small city like this. The food was really good. The menu is interesting and offers a nice variety. Don’t expect handmade pasta, but the sauces and overall flavors are very solid and satisfying. The service was amazing — friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The local atmosphere is very cute and cozy, which makes the whole experience even better. I truly love this place and would definitely come back.
Very nice, cozy restaurant with an awesome italian menu. I went there on Christmas Eve last year and had the best time in a warm environment while it was very cold outside. There were several families having a great time, and did I mention that the food was superb?
Most places in Julian close at 5PM but Romanos is a cozy Italian treat that is open late & serves homemade, traditional Italian food. From fresh dressing for salads to a light lasagna or frittatas. Try the clam chowder & fresh bread. It is nice & warm by the fire on a cool Julian night. Highly recommended for fresh Italian desserts too. Excellent table service.
My wife, my son, his girlfriend and I ate at this restaurant Jan 31, 2026. We didn't have a reservation, but they got us in and seated promptly. We ordered soft drinks and appetizer and dinner. Our server was very nice professional and sweet but she forgot to bring our iced tea and Italian soda. It was difficult to find her and when we finally did the food was coming out so we reminded her of our iced tea and Italian soda. The Ice-Tea was "fresh brewed" but did not taste fresh so I sent it back and exchanged it for an Italian soda. The atmosphere was excellent the food was excellent and from that point on the service was excellent. The owner of the restaurant came over and introduced himself and we told him how nice everything was. When we got our bill our server told us that she took off the iced tea and the Italian sodas because we had to wait for them so long. That made up for everything. Truly this is a gem of a restaurant. It is high-quality food at a fair price, in a nice quaint comfortable environment and it all tastes very good. We highly recommend it.
Our new favorite place to eat in Julian! Bread/rolls are made every morning and so good. I custom ordered a chicken parm sandwich that was outstanding. Husband ordered the Torpedo sandwich which he loved. And a cannoli for dessert was the perfect ending. Joe, the mgr was great. We loved that's this is a family run business with 3 generations involved over the years.
We loved it here! We were able to get a table even though they were busy the server and cashier were all super friendly. The food was absolutely delicious! We had a pizza and the cheese ravioli and the soup of the day, everything you could feel it was handmade and it had that home flavor and warmth. Absolutely recommend, be mindful it is a small space though.
Best caesar salad i’ve ever had!! The lovely waitress said the dressing is their own recipe. I also loved how the atmosphere felt like setting the table at home. There was a lot of homey decor like lamps and tables in there that made it feel so special. The music playing softly in the background was so lovely too!! Super sweet experience.
This is a can’t miss place while in Julian. Food is exceptional, and a lot to choose from, portions are generous. The vinegar—which came of course with the bread and with the antipasto salad I had—tasted like it was homemade. Great atmosphere too—very peaceful, and the staff is very friendly…can’t wait to come back!
We absolutely love coming to Romano’s in Julian. The service is impeccable and the younger man with darker hair that always waits on us goes above and beyond every time and accommodates our dietary needs. The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly. Love the cozy atmosphere too. 10/10
My husband and I love to visit Julian and last night I had the delight of eating at Romano's. I ordered their Chicken Piccota and I got to say that it's hands down the BEST Italian entree I've ever eaten in my life! The garlic butter capers were freaking INCREDIBLE... We're definitely coming back!
My fiancé and I went here after touring our wedding venue in Julian. The food was so amazing we decided to have them cater for our wedding come up. My favorite food is pesto pasta and they had the best one I have ever tried (I don't live in the area and crave it all the time). The restaurant has a nice environment that works perfectly for date night, family dinners, or just a casual meal. I gave the service 4 stars only because they can get a bit busy, but the staff is still attentive and friendly.
Absolutely loved this place! It’s super cozy, warm, and has such a welcoming vibe — you instantly feel at home. The staff were fantastic: fast, friendly, and genuinely kind. We had the mussels and calamari — everything was fresh and full of flavor. Our friends ordered the beef and chicken dishes and couldn’t stop raving about them. One of the highlights was the owner himself walking around, checking in with every table to make sure everyone was happy — such a rare and thoughtful touch. We’re honestly blown away. Can’t wait to come back! (Sharing a photo of the menu below so you can check it out too.)
My wife, 9yr old and myself had a great experience! Very warm Spring evening out on the patio with our small dog. Service with a smile! I had the seafood and linguine dish (shrimp, scallops and breaded fried calamari) finished in butter, wine and oil. Absolutely delicious! The only thing I wish they would replace the breaded, seared calamari with fresh. The charred breaded flavor didn't go with the indended profile of the dish. Side salads were flush with traditional options like olives, roasted red peppers etc. Not your boring side salad. The chicken cacciatore was a surprise! Half of a chicken with skin and the carrots were great. A surprise and delight... The cannoli was SPECTACULAR! A must..
Started with mussels appetizer. Was delicious 😋. Soup of the day was chicken vegetable, to salty for my taste buds. For dinner, I had the Sicilian Sauce. It comes with short rib and the portion was amazing. Other plate was Veal Milagnese, the special of the day, and it was okay. But I definitely recommend the Sicilian Sauce.
Excellent Sicilian restaurant. Excellent food. The owner came by. Two of his sons helped run the restaurant. The interior is casual, charming, and romantic. Excellent lighting and a good place to bring your date. The potions are generous, even the salad we had to take some home and spaghetti and meatballs were awesome. We had a bottle of wine which is reasonably priced. Excellent service. I would highly recommend this place to visit when you are in Julian.
A friend recommended me this place and it did not disappoint. For 3 people we order the garlic cheese bread, a 14in pizza (half deluxe/half veggie) and the creamy pesto. It was more than enough. The staff was super nice! It does get full quickly, we arrive at like 12pm and it was calm and then after that it got super busy. 100% would recommend and come back!
We visited today after a long hike and really liked the food. The portions are generous and prices are good as well. Would definitely return when visiting Julian.🍏 P.S. We loved the decor and homey feeling of the place. Would only pay close attention to the bathroom being clean as there is only one for all customers.
We enjoyed this homey restaurant. The portions were generous and the food had a homemade authenticity. The veggie plate was delicious. We especially liked the pickling. Our wait on a busy day in the village was only 15 minutes. And when i accidentally cancelled my reservation in the link, they were able to restore our place in line with no problem. Prices are reasonable and more than worth it.
Be prepared to wait for a seat on the weekend in the winter as the restaurant is small and a town favorite, our wait was a bit over an hour. No reservations, but you join an online wait list when you arrive that lets you monitor your place in line. Our entrees however, were served in a reasonable amount of time with our bread and starters arriving very quickly. The minestrone was excellent, as was the bread, the vinegar with the olive oil for the bread was a bit strong though. I had the lasagna which was awesome, some of the best I've had. My husband had the chicken cacciatore and didn't enjoy it as much. It was different than cacciatore he was used to for starters. Then the chicken was pretty dry. The vegetables and sauce were very good though he said. I had meant to try the zucchini frittata and forgot, it sounded and looked awesome. I enjoyed Romano's and would recommend. Our bill was $63 which included one soda and one glass of house wine.
The wait took longer than we were told. The pizza was doughy and undercooked. The bread rolls were cold on the inside. The fettuccini romana was Lean Cuisine quality at best. We could not split our bill separately because it’s “1 bill per table” the owner said “everything is hand written”. Not sure how that can’t just be split once you put it into the system. A heavy set male employee wearing a blue polo, not a real uniform was eavesdropping and smiling at us while we discussed how the service was extremely uncomfortable and the quality of the food was poor. The owner forced a crowd of people into a cramped tiny 4ft by 4ft “waiting room”before the single bathroom because he did not want us waiting outside the restroom. Once the person using the restroom came out, she physically could not leave as we filled the room and people wanting to use the restroom could not enter the “waiting room” so the owner told customers they’d have to wait at their table. Therefore losing their spot in line. He physically blocked my friend from waiting in line outside and walked her back to our table which my friend then told him how unprofessional that was and how he acted inappropriately. He refused to acknowledge his behavior or quality of the food. He then took our plates and came back with our food in takeout bags where the takeout lid was open and on its side so the pasta sauce was leaking from the bag. The woman employees were very kind and polite.
