Wife and I stopped by this place for breakfast and we were NOT disappointed! From the moment we entered, we were met with friendly greetings. Service was awesome and the food came out really quickly. Both of us got the breakfast plate with 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Everything tasted amazing! Especially the potatoes, which were perfectly seasoned and perfectly crispy. We would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Julian!!
Food was expertly prepared, with no expense spared. Wait time was not unreasonable and the wait proved to be worth it. Everything they made was above expectations. I don't normally write such glorified reviews but this place was worth it. Snowing outside with great music and ambient air temp this place was very inviting for my wife. I was skeptical but they proved to be exactly what they claim to be; a wholesome small town cafe. Do yourself a favor and have the French onion and or the curry chicken. Absolutely stunning.
They had absolutely the best french onion soup I have ever had in my life! They have a dog friendly patio, but with only 2 picnic tables and 2 small tables, get there early if you want to guarantee an outdoor seat. The tuna curry sandwich I had was very good as well, highly recommend. There's only a few places to eat in Julian that are dog friendly, and we will definitely be back to visit this one. I will dream of their french onion soup...
A hidden gem!! We arrived in Julian on a busy Sunday afternoon, not finding one restaurant who didn’t have over an hour wait, and stumbled upon this awesome place. The menu was perfectly simple with soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches to choose from; made with fresh ingredients you can taste the quality and truly appreciate small businesses like these. The inside was small, neat, and had a welcoming peaceful environment, so glad we came and plan to visit back in the future!
Very nice restaurant with a combination of soups, salads and sandwiches...and such, like local art, photography and pottery. My family and friends stopped in during the weekend and were seated very quickly. The menu had a good variety of items for everyone’s taste. Overall, I highly recommend Soups & Such Cafe to anyone visiting Julian.
Came and got the French onion soup It WAS AMAZING!! The soup was so thick and flavorful! The croutons in it were delicious! Everything about the soup was perfect! Then I got a pot of the green tea it was wonderful! I got the gunpowder tea, they had a very nice selection of honey . We will come back to try everything I loved the experience of just being here the store was so cute!!! The staff was all very friendly!!!
Excellent quality and friendly service. Portions aren't so large that you need a to-go box which is nice if you're planning to stay around Julian for more of the day. Why is the photo of my meal taken halfway through? Because the thought to leave a review hadn't occured until we started eating and remarked that we'd like to remember and return to this spot. Enjoy!
Our favorite place to stop to eat in Julian - and that’s saying something since there is an abundance of yummy food! The food here is fresh and delicious with a cozy homey atmosphere. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ordered here and I particularly recommend the corn chowder and green harvest soup!
Has great lunch combos! I got the soup&salad with Thai chicken soup (mildly spicy with amazing flavor, I drank every drop) and the house salad (very fresh!). Mom got the curry chicken 1/2 sandwich on wheat (rich complex flavors, perfect amount of crunch) and the corn chowder (lots of flavor but not too heavy). The iced coffee is made with frozen coffee cubes !! Unusual and nice selection of hot tea, served by the teapot. They have healthy options and vegetarian options. Clean bathrooms, friendly atmosphere. Perfect temperature in here. Waitress help accommodate a disability. Food and drinks came fast.
What a pleasant surprise this morning was for me. I brought my wife to the local hair salon and thought that I would just go to the local coffee shop to get some paperwork done when I noticed Soups & Such Cafe served gourmet coffee. I went inside and asked if it would be OK if I just occupied a table to drink coffee and work on paperwork and of course they said it would be more than OK. Well, as time went on it started filling up with both locals and tourist. I’ve lived in Julian for over 18 years and I am amazed that I have never eaten here. The people around me are all having a wonderful experience and when their food comes out, the presentation is fabulous and overhearing their comments, it taste amazing as well. All of the employees are super nice, friendly and attentive - it actually looks like they enjoy working here! When my wife is done with her appointment I think we’re going to have to get some food and try this place out, I’ll let you know how it goes. Also, the only florist in town is located inside the restaurant, they have a really neat little Nook where they prepare the flowers and display them with some various knickknacks. Well, the coffee is fantastic, the atmosphere is wonderful but it’s time to get back to my paperwork. If you’re ever in Julian and want to have a great experience dining out, “Steve Says“, try out Soup and Such, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Thank you soups and such for a wonderful morning and a great cuppa coffee.
My family and I just ate lunch here and it was so good. It puts some big name places to shame. My husband had the chicken caeser salad and it was way bigger than expected. Our son said his fried chicken was the best he'd ever had and he'd come back just for the fries. I had the bbq brisket and oh my was it finger licken good. Every time we come to julian we try a new place and we always miss Soups and Such. We'll we won't be missing it again. There outside tables were perfect for us with our little fur baby and Beatriz, our waitress was awesome she even brought Coco (fur baby) a bowl of water. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting Julian.
Great place and super friendly staff. Food was all very fresh. They even accommodated my St Bernard. :-)
Fantastic experience at this restaurant. Service is great with really observational staff and sense of humor. The eggs benedict was so good, with Hollaindaise sauce not being too heavy and good portion. I didn’t get to try their soups, but I imagine they would awesome as well.
Came for lunch and we ordered the 1/2 Sandwich, Soup & Salad and the brisket burger and they were amazing. 10 out of 10!!
Creative and delicious homemade food. Lovely experience and not so crowded as the ones at the main corner in Julian.
I had a great experience here! The place is very clean and has a welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the chicken sandwich, which was delicious, and the mashed potatoes were tasty and well-made. What really made my day was the service. I asked for sweet tea, and even though they didn't have it on the menu, the waitress was incredibly kind—she offered to brew a tea and sweeten it specifically for me. My food came out in a reasonable amount of time, too. I highly recommend this spot for the excellent service alone!
Super duper cute little spot. I had the farm house soup and it was delicious. The service was great also. *Little* pricey for what it was, but overall excellent lunch.
This is a must visit cafe! We went right at lunch time and were sat immediately. I had their tuna curry sanwhich and salad combo. My husband thinks they are the best burgers in San Diego. The little ones like their variety of grilled cheese. My folks enjoyed a BLT and sweet potato fries. Everything we had was delicious! We often come in the winter for their Thai curry chicken soup after a day of snow fun.
The creamy tomato soup didn't disappoint. It was creamy and flavorful. Accompanied it with the grilled cheese sandwich and fries. The fries were soft in the center but nice and crispy on the outside with light sprinkle of salt. Nice and cozy ambiance and very kind staff.
This place is perfect if you're looking for a light meal and cleaner eating. There was no wait time but the place was pretty full for for 2:00 p.m. on a Saturday. The staff was really friendly and the food was satisfying. I got the curry sandwich which was amazing! My boyfriend got the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich which he really liked.
Burger was recommended by the Julian Hotel. Meat is nicely salty. Brioche bun. Crunch with the fresh onions. Sweet fries were perfectly crispy outside and soft inside. Host was very nice.
Excellent Reuben sandwich, and salad. Our toddler had 1/2 grill cheese sandwich with Swiss on sourdough and super good!
One of the cutest restaurants ever with the best service! It is obligatory that every time we go to Julian, we visit this restaurant! The last time we went, everything was even better than ever! Our waitress was extremely kind and attended to all of our requests. The environment is very cute as this restaurant is located inside a historic building. As for the food, it is extremely tasty and comforting, especially on a cold Julian day! This is an experience like no other, that everyone who goes to Julian should experience and enjoy!!
What’s not to like? Great food awesome and friendly staff, clean and beautiful place. My grandson said it was the best breakfast sandwich he has ever had. Thank you sooo much for the experience 💚 (sorry I forgot to take photos of food before eating)
I experienced a wonderful breakfast experience. Our service was attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere is bright and cheery. My coffee was hot, and had a rich flavor. Everything tasted great. The eggs are organic and fresh. The hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict is the real deal. Thank you Soups and Such. Robert Baker Spring g Valley CA.
Service here was great! It was our first time eating indoors during this Pandemic and they separated tables by a few feet. We felt very safe here. Food really hit the spot. Plants everywhere and warm cozy interior! Our server was super sweet!!
Solid lil spot, the outside seating is fine, benches are a benches, so they're not really comfortable. Great service and folks, food was solid, great breakfast food for sure. Well priced, cute plants!
I was in search of some good soup in Julian and found it . I got a bowl of the corn chowder and a half a grilled cheese sandwich. It hit the spot and they were excellent. Cute little place. Loved it!!!!

People were very helpful, good suggestions, and the brisket burger was the best burger I've had in a VERY long time. I will make the 3 hour drive again just to taste it again
JUST AWESOME! LOVE THE bURGER ! accommodated my celiac friend, gave her food that didn’t make her tummy go boom
Came for lunch and we ordered the 1/2 Sandwich, Soup & Salad and the brisket burger and they were amazing. 10 out of 10!!
A really cool vibe and nice service even though it took a while to get our orders. The Green Harvest soup was really delicious. My lovely girlfriend got the Curried Tuna Sandwich and was very satisfied. Lots of photogenic plant arrangements.
Service was superior and food was very good. The brisket sandwich was more sauce than protein but it was still good. However it required a knife and fork to consume. The homemade potato salad was okay but could do with some salt and pepper. Soda is in cans at $2 each. Also important was the proper spacing between tables and use of outdoor seating. Worth the wait.
A cute, quaint, relaxing little restaurant nearby the main street. Perfect place to relax with someone when it's cold and snowy outside. Food and drink quality is good.

The location is absolutely gorgeous — you can see the town of Julian from a little uphill, and the atmosphere is lovely. However, the service could definitely be improved. It was confusing where and how to order, and the wait for food was quite long. My pie was served without tea, and after waiting for a while, I eventually said I didn’t need it anymore. Considering how busy Julian usually is, I can understand delays, but I still think the service should be more organized. Overall, it’s a nice place with great views, but the experience would be much better with smoother service.

Let me start with the positives: The food was amazing. I loved my burger, the soups were great, the house made potato chips and sweet potato fries were delicious. Just a warning, this place has a sign on the door that says they struggle to seat parties of more than for. A very nice man informed us it would be about 25 minutes to sit. It was only 5, which we appreciated! Unfortunately, it was about 20 minutes before our server took our order. It was another 20 minutes for food which i didn’t mind because jr was soo good. And I say that despite the fact that there were two mistakes on our check. My burger was brought without cheese which was fine, I just asked the server to take it off. They also forgot to write down our soup so that never came. When we got the bill, the soup wasn’t on there, so that was fine but the cheese still was. At that point I really just wanted to leave so I let the dollar go. I think they need maybe one more server for these really busy days. the food saved it from being a total wash.

Not worth it, Lazy staff, mediocre food, and the place has a strong sewer odor with the bathroom in the middle of the restaurant. I get small family owned and operated but this is unsanitary and a tourist trap since there are so few options around there
