I have been coming here since 2000s and I have seen this restaurant nuances as it stro gly planted it's roots in Katy. With its persistency, consistency, and relection of itself and giving its customers what it wants with the introduction of new menu items. It has become an establishment that has made memories as the community grew!
One of my go to places for Mexican food in Katy. Very good and HUGE portion of yummy tortilla soup, great nachos, and good non-stop free flowing chips & salsa. Love their patio area as well!
El Jarrito has been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Katy area for years. We went on their busiest day of the year, Cinco de Mayo. The place was packed and despite having a small wait for our order to be delivered to the table, everything was great. As I said, it was busy, the wait does not matter to me. Our server was great and made sure we had all our other needs taken care of.
Love this place. We’ve been going to El Jarrito since it was a little hole in the wall place down the road. Great chips and salsa. We love the fajita jalapeño and the tacos al carbon. On Fridays and Saturdays they serve an excellent green sauce which should just be a permanent part of the menu.
First time here, it was very nice. The food was really good!
Our go-to for authentic Mexican food in Katy! The food is always good, and we love it when we get to sit in our favorite server's section, Salazar! The drinks are great, too!
Typical Mexican food establishment. It is very large, clean with plenty of staff to take care of everything. Keep up the good work!
It’s one of our favorite restaurants in Katy, we come here almost every weekend because we feel like we are at home, food is delicious, never disappoint, service is amazing, thank you Fily for taking care of us always !!! Gracias amigo por ser excelente mesero y siempre recomendarnos lo mejor.
I have placed an order to go for dinner for my family and the process was easy, pock up was easy and food cane out very good, everyone was satisfied in my family. We had ordered beef fajitas and quesadillas. Definitely would come back.
We held a family dinner here and were well taken care of. These people go out of their way to make sure that everyone is having a good time and enjoying their food. Next time I'm in Houston, I will be going here.
We went on a Tuesday night and Juan was our server. He was excellent, the margaritas were on point and the charro beans with tortilla chips were excellent. We will be back again!!
The best fajita beef in Houston! Our server Alfredo was Awesome! Fun atmosphere. We can't wait to go back
We went for Christmas eve dinner and they were fairly busy but there was no wait to get seated. You get chips and three different types of salsa while you wait which tasted very good. They do offer the regular tex mex like tamales, tacos and fajitas. I went with one of the house specials which was bacon wrapped meat stuffed jalapenos. It was fantastic I would definitely order this again. You want to go hungry because the portions are quite large. There was a little bit of a gap between ordering and receiving the order but as most places now they seemed short staffed.
Thank you Carlos for a great attitude and sharp sense of humor 👍🏼 Excellent service always, love the famous Margaritas too!
Great family run Mexican restaurant where everything was so good, the food and great margaritas!! Friendly and attentive staff and a warm atmosphere, can’t wait for my next visit!!!
Great Mole! The margaritas and service are both fantastic! I highly recommend!!
I went to Katy for a funeral so the family decided to meet at El Jarrito. Their food was amazing, the service was outstanding and management was good as well. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I'm a bit finicky when it comes to Mexican restaurants and this place completely blew my mind away. Everything was scrumptious. The drinks were well prepared, the fajitas so juicy and the sopapillas were still hot when they were served! I did want a little more spice to my food, but I will definitely be returning. Juan's service was also superb! 👍👍
Love the atmosphere and setup the first time we ate inside and today we decided to dine on patio (lovely weather today) We’ve celebrated two birthdays and definitely plenty more to come. The food is great and won’t break the bank, staff is friendly and polite definitely will come back again great place to come visit with family.
My husband came here for the first time today for lunch with my in laws, he loved it so much that he took me, our boys, and my sister for dinner. Such a hidden gem!! My first time, so far, the best authentic Mexican restaurant in Katy, best enchiladas, and margaritas in Katy so far!!!! Great service, Salazar was very friendly and very attentive. Will definitely be coming back and asking for Salazar!
El Jarrito was a great experience. The food was so good! The service was amazing as well. We had enchiladas, queso flameado, chips, warm salsa.... all spectacular. The place was very clean, nicely decorated and the bathrooms were clean. This is more on the traditional side than tex-mex. If that's what you're looking for, I highly recommend El Jarrito.
Really good, yet underrated Mexican food in the Katy area. One of my favorites. Pretty standard menu options you find at any texmex spot... However, the fajita beef is very-well seasoned with the right amount of lime flavor that hits just right. The enchiladas are really good as well. Even the crunchy beef tacos are a hit. Can't go wrong with this one. But they do close at 10pm every night so get there early.
We come to El Jarrito all the time, and it never disappoints. The fajitas and the quality of the meat are absolutely excellent—perfectly cooked, flavorful, and always consistent. Honestly, whatever you order is delicious, you really can’t go wrong here. Another big plus is the super fast service. No matter how busy it is, the food comes out very quickly, which makes the experience even better. The atmosphere is authentic, local, and welcoming, not like a chain restaurant at all—just a great, genuine Mexican spot. Highly recommended. This is definitely one of our favorite places in Katy
I went here today for a late lunch after an appointment. I had the Carne Guisada plate with rice and refried beans. It was very good! The service was friendly and prompt with our waiter checking on us several times. They have sweet tea! Bonus points ...ding ding! I have been coming here for years and it never disappoints!
This place has the best beef fajitas I’ve ever had. The wife and I drive an hour away for them. The fajitas are tender, juicy and hot. Bonus: they hit the table within 10 minutes of sitting down. 10/10 recommend this place
Zalazar took care of us. My grandson was practicing his restaurant manners and eating something out of his comfort zone. The staff was so kind to us. And the food was delicious, of course!
It’s genuinely become one of my go-to spots, and for so many fantastic reasons! First off, its location is just perfect; it's so convenient But honestly, every single dish I've ever had has been consistently and always served perfectly hot. And let's talk about the service – it's always top-notch! The staff are genuinely so friendly and incredibly attentive. They always seem to know what you need before you even ask, which really makes you feel welcomed and well looked after. It definitely has that lovely family restaurant feel, so you can comfortably bring along even the youngest members. They have the sand box for kids to play Oh, and you absolutely *have* to check out their patio area! I really can't recommend it enough!
Always excellent service from every server. Lugo was fantastic in attending to our needs at such a busy dinner time. Great sand pit area where the kids can play and the drinks are wonderful!
My grandma and I have been eating here for almost two years now and I forgot to leave a review for this restaraunt. Since our time here, Alfredo is who we always ask for. Alfredo is super nice to us and has an amazing attitude every time we see him. The food is always good for the both of us. Lately we've been getting the same thing except for this time we both got the grilled fish plate.
I have been dining at El Jarrito for well, over 20 years in fact even at the old strip center location. The service is fabulous, the food is over the top great and the fresh made salsa, chips and margaritas are incredible. Consistency is the key to any restaurant and the Fajita Jalapeno has been the exact same since day one. Thanks to the owner Gil, the manager Carmen, the staff and the chefs for always welcoming us and our kids (Now in their 30's), and they too frequent with their families! Keep up the great work and thanks for making each visit special! I live in Spring now and still make the drive which is almost an hour at least once a month passing about 100 Mexican restaurants to get there! I wish I could give them 100 stars!
Very friendly and professional staff. Lovely patio. We had the huge Mixto Platter with 2lbs of shrimp, chicken, beef, fish, onions, peppers, mushrooms, chilis, pico, cheese, beans, guac with loads of flour and corn tortillas. Chips, salsa, table side guac. So much food, good value for money. Service fantastic. Food’s not as good as it used to be a few years ago but it’s OK when we always get taken care of so well.
This is one of our favorite mexican restaurants! They have the best beef fajitas and enchiladas with the gravy sauce. The salsa is always hot and fresh. They have a cute, well decorated ambience inside and a nice patio. They also give a Sunday discount if you bring your church bulletin!
Excellent restaurant; we really enjoyed the food and the experience. This is a stunning location that makes you feel as though you are in an other country, perhaps Spain or Mexico. I should also remark the excellent service we received. However, it was Monday after one o'clock. Our meals were fantastic! The appetizer of chips, salsa, and bean soup was followed by our meals, my sister's wonderful margarita cocktail, and finally the dessert. Having lunch here was enjoyable. The decor is awesome-looking and the spacious surrounds are wonderful to behold as well. The ambiance inside and out feels quite homy. We will return to El Jarrito 21724 Highland Knolls Dr, Katy, Texas, and we highly suggest it!
A Katy staple. Always great food and service. This will always be my 1st choice for Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston.

Amazing food, spectacular flavor, outstanding service. The restaurant is clean and the outside patio area is such a vibe.

Wow!! I'm so surprised to have the best mexican food ever. Everything made from scratch with an outstanding service by the humble owner of this Restaurant. This Restaurant deserves all the STARS of …
Food excellant. Margaritas best in Katy. Service good. Been there for over 20 years. Will go back soon. Place real clean.
Is it still good? Yes, el Jarrito still has tasty food and good drinks.\n\nI had the mole enchiladas. I have had mole before where the sauce was very heavy, but not so much with this dish. Add just…
This place is always great. clean, great service, drink, chips and salsa always full. Food hot and fresh. Highly recommend.
The title says it all. We will surely come back. And let’s not forget waiter and waitress. Perfecto!

Great fun place , always same great service and folks actually talk to you
Good food, a little pricey but worth it.
Ir was OK. I feel like the flavor of their food isn't my most favorite but I did finish my meal. Additionally I enjoy a cold salsa and theirs is served warm so just a preference.
Fine time. Staff were all super friendly and courteous. Fajitas weren't the best Ive ever had. For some reason the beef was super well done, which I have not seen before. But the corn tortillas were great and the chicken was tasty. Not the best, but also far from the worst. Worth a try.
The server was very nice. The food was good but not great. It was very hot in the restaurant though.
Came to eat some authentic Mexican food , the pictures look amazing. I ordered the tamales dinner , the food wasn’t that hot. The tamales didn’t have much taste , super disappointed with the rice. That was canned beans and carrots on rice , not Mexican rice. The place is aesthetically beautiful , great decor but the food no.
Well guys everything was awesome to start with and the place was amazing... but on my girlfriend plate there was loads of grease... it was really bad... check out the pictures... we will return to give this place another try but as a chef.. check and double check your plates before you send them out back of the house...Well until next time signing off Two Peas
A decent Mexican restaurant. The restaurant itself is well decorated and very spacious. A good party venue for sure; however the food was a bit disappointing. While it was flavorful, it doesn't stand out to me and isn't worth the price. On top of that, the Carne asada was a burnt. The best part about the food was the guacamole that was made fresh.
I’ve been coming to El Jarrito back when it was a small restaurant on Mason Rd. Those were the best days! Occasionally when I’m in town my family will go to sit on the patio and enjoy some good food. We were very surprised how few people were in the Saturday before Christmas. We easily had a table set for 10 on the patio. Oftentimes sitting inside can be very loud. The chips and salsa are good. The queso is nothing to brag about. We had guacamole made fresh from the cart. This is a little but pricier route but sure is delicious. We ordered 2 pitchers of margaritas on the rocks and many of us were very disappointed in how watered down they tasted. It was like water with a little lime and sugar flavor. Completely missing the tequila. Maybe we were given their base margarita or that’s just how they are. My husband and I split the chicken fajitas for 1. Many times we have enough to each have a fajita and maybe share one more. Wow we’re we surprised how much meat it was!! Definitely the most chicken and onions I’ve ever seen for a meal for 1. We had lots of leftovers. Their tortillas are some of my favorites as they are thin and not heavy like many other Mexican restaurants. The music was an interesting mix of hits and Mexican music. At one point we think it turned into karaoke but I cannot confirm that for sure. The staff were very friendly and quick to keep refills of chips coming.
First time here. The food was ok. I ordered the shrimp mole which is a favorite dish of mine elsewhere. However here it was not good. The sauce did not taste fresh and the shrimp were dry. My family ordered quesadillas which they said were good. The margaritas were ok. The service was great!
When I review a restaurant is usually because it's either great or something was just not right. In this case, there's both. We visited on Sunday, November 16, about 3 pm. Let's start with the good, then bad. We have small children, so eating at a place with kid's playing area is a plus. I googled, and found this place close to home. First time visiting. The good: Location, establishment, appearance and Mexican decorations and theme are amazing. The place is elegant indoor and outdoor. We chose outdoor because of the kids play area which is a huge sand box with a toddler playground, plastic rock climbing structure, toy cars, etc. There's a huge chalk board in which kids can write. Take your own chalk maybe, I didn't see any or asked. Huge wooden tables outside with umbrellas. We sat next to playground. There's an area with a water hose to wash kid's feet after they finish playing in the sand. Very thoughtful. All this is a plus. Looking at menu, a wide selection of items to choose from at ok prices, and a kid's menu. So far so good. Here comes the bad. The bad: Not important, but I might suggest a little bit of low music to have a better time. It was just too quiet. We were about 3 families outside when we first got there and hardly anybody inside. Did not get my server's name unfortunately, but he was a Latino early 40s, short/dark hair gentleman. We asked about the kid's menu and as I and my husband were debating what to choose, he hushed my husband. Very awkward moment, but we just continued to order without making a big deal. He brings the food, and I asked for a different salsa because usually the chip salsa is always only for chips, and then you get the regular salsas for the food. He then says, "well, I don't think you want to pay like $5 for our spicy salsa ". Which I don't, but ok. So I asked, don't you have other options of salsas for the food? He seemed agitated, and with sarcasm said, " What kind of salsa do you want, enchilada salsa, bottle salsa, on, on ,and on." He was being very sarcastic and seemed like maybe he was having a bad day. I told him to just bring me more chip salsa. He left and never brought my salsa. He did come by after we were almost finished eating to refill our water. Never asked if we needed anything else. This server had a very bad attitude. Not sure if maybe he was just having a bad day. It’s unfortunate, because it was out first time visiting and we liked it for our kids. Another uncomfortable situation. There's another comment on this about a gentleman cleaning the restrooms and staying nearby. I went to the restroom and a young male cleaning, but he was just standing there when I got there, no sign saying it was closed. He didn't move, so I said I could come back when he's done. He walked out, but left door wide open and was outside. So I removed the door stopper and closed the door myself. It was jusy awkward and just needed to have that privacy. No big deal, but it was awkward. Would I visit again, possibly. We will try one more time and hoping for better service and a different waiter.
Checked, out El Jarrito after a recommendation while visiting Houston for the weekend. Ordered the Melon Margarita w/Shrimp Tacos. The drink hit the spot while the tacos were ok. The presentation was more like a burrito than tacos, so I ended up just eating the shrimp. Service was great & we enjoyed the atmosphere.
Update: Went back on a Thursday evening and this time I ordered enchiladas Verdes.....much much better! Also got the table side guacamole, which was fresh and delicious! Our server was busy, but attentive. Also the restaurant was a bit less busy and the music wasn't so loud this visit, so I could hear the conversation at my table. Overall much better experience. Probably best to go on weeknights and avoid on busy weekend nights. Original review: Visually a very cool place, but it was far too loud to hear the person right next to you. My dish (one of the combination plates) was rather bland. The server was nice, but at the end of our meal he was no where to be found and we had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get our check. I think he literally forgot we were still there.
I haven't been here in a while; probably been about three years. I was dining late on a Sunday, and they stay open a little later than the neighboring Mexican restaurants. My margarita was so good …
Nice restaurant with great service and drinks. We ordered the fajitas and the meat was okay, kinda tough and chewy. The green sauce had 0 flavor it was just green. The rice and beans were really good. Lupe tortilla and Guadalajara have much better quality meat.
We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, not many people but the service was slow. I asked for no spicy and I got just that, food was kind of cold
The food was ok but very greasy. The fresh guacamole they made by our table was kind of tasteless and the cart that they were preparing it on did't look as clean as we'd hoped for. We love the fresh guacamole and order it in every Mexican restaurant that have it available, and their's was not our favorite. Overall the inside looked dated and not very clean and the food was average. On a positive side the place itself from outside looks cute and big, their food portion is big and the staff were sweet and friendly.
It is a nice restaurant. It is more a Tex-mex food than Mexican food. If you add cheddar cheese to Mexican food, you turn it into something else. The cheese that is used in Mexican food is Panela cheese or even Monterrey Jack but not yellow cheese. We ordered fajitas. The Fajitas were good along with the rice and the guacamole, but the refried beans were not so good. We also tried the nachos and the chicken nuggets but were good.
Overall, just okay. The chips and salsa weren't great, and there was no green salsa available (only on Fridays & Saturdays). The kids' fries were very oily and lacked flavor. Portions were decent for…

We haven't visited this place in over ten years and a lot has changed. Queso was not hot, Beans and rice were not flavorful. Margaritas were ok. Service was great as was ambiance.
visited this place for dinner with my family and the service was horrible!!! it was not busy at all, maybe 5 families at least with each family having a different waiter. our waiter lacked attention, i would ask him to bring me several things and he would take a while and not even come back with what i asked for. sadly, i didn’t get his name. then i asked the younger man if they could bring a heater outside because i had my toddler and my 5 month old with me and it was chilly and he said “you’re cold bro?!” first of all im a lady, im not your bro. he said he was going to get a manager approval, he never came back and nobody ever brought a heater out which caused me to sit inside with my kids. food was good but they need to work on their service!
The restaurant itself is beautiful and the service I received from my waiter was great. Food was as I expected, very delicious! Only issue I had was the miscommunication between the employees. I went to go use the restroom and by the time I came back my table had been cleared without me being done with my food. I hadn’t even gotten through half of my meal and was accidentally pushed out of the restaurant with a bill of $30 with food I didn’t get to fully enjoy.
The last 3 times I have gone to El Jarito their frozen mango margarita has tasted like hot fruit punch....
Serve is slow or non existing. Once was a decent mexican food restaurant. Enjoy your $0.12 tip, will not be back.

We were a party of 9 that were sat prior to another big party. Yet we sat for over 15 minutes waiting for the waiter to ask for our drink order. Went to the hostess asking for our waiter but still nothing. As we were leaving we found our waiter at the door talking to another employee instead of helping us. When he saw us leaving he had the audacity to say I will help you now. I have never had such bad service here before management needs to address this as it is inexcusable.
The restaurant is nice. The atmosphere and the deco is on point. Unfortunately, the food was not good. The potatoes were dripping oil, the veggies overcooked, and the fish portion with no flavor. Aside from the margarita that had little booze and extra sugar. My husband ordered a tostada with fajita and it had more lettuce than anything. Barely some meat. I hope they can improve and review their menu and cooking. The place has potential but the food was bad.
VERY RUDE. Came here for a solo date and left disappointed. The waiters barely spoke to me until I said something to them. Took about 10-15 minutes to even take my order in an empty restaurant. Stood right over my shoulder when it was time to tip though. Food was good but I will not be going back at all.
Asked to speak with a manager but he never came to my table, but as i was using the restroom a worker who is a guy was in the womens restroom while i was using and when i got out to wash my hands he was still in there talking to another women who also works there. No man should be in the womens restrooms empty or being used. I felt very embarrassed and uncomfortable.
Picked up some to-go food from here on Thursday, and unfortunately, the refried beans had this piece of plastic inside them. I was shocked that this happened to us, as we have a 2-year-old who also eats this food. I called the restaurant, and the lady sounded like she didn't care and finally just told me to text her the picture. I never heard back from them. I've been coming here for four years, and I think this will be my last time. It's a shame.
I've been coming to El Jarrito for the past 20 years, and the food is always incredibly delicious. Every visit feels like home, and the servers are consistently friendly and welcoming. The entire environment is fantastic. I do have a few favorite servers—there are about four of them—that I especially enjoy serving my table. Without a doubt, there is no other restaurant in the Katy area that compares to this one. As someone who’s quite critical about food, El Jarrito always exceeds my expectations.:)
RACISM We enjoyed our meal and service so much. Would have gave 5 stars until I left my credit card. Because I had to get to work, I called the restaurant to let them know my husband will be picking up the card. I am a Filipino woman. Last name Agudelo (I look and come across Spanish influence). My husband is a black man. Mind you we just left about 10 minutes ago and I called the restaurant to let them know he would be there shortly. My husband came there and gave my last name, showed them he had access to my bank account on his phone, and still the front desk said they couldn’t give him the card because Agudelo was a Hispanic name. Not only did they give him a hard time but extremely passive aggressive and racist micro aggressions. My husband even said “I’ll have her call to confirm” and the front desk said very aggressively “well, we’ll see if she does call!” Very rude! Mind you, we were just here 10 minutes ago and were served and you couldn’t remember the only black man in the restaurant? I had to call in again and give them his full name and a description of him. We would have made this our new favorite place if not for this incident. I can only imagine if I had not been available at my work job, how hard it would have been to obtain our card!
We're from the Seattle area and ended up going here at 8pm on a Tuesday and were pretty disappointed in this place. Although Google and the front door says they are open until 9:30pm, it looked like they were cleaning up and ready to go Food: -#16: Tacos Al Carbon - The beef was pretty dry and the tortilla was dry as well. All around, not great #28: Enchiladas Verdes - The chicken was dry in this also and the tortilla wasn't great either. - Chips and salsa - Not sure if the chips were homemade or not, but it seemed like they weren't and they weren't great - The salsa was served hot and was actually my first time having hot salsa and it really didn't taste good. This may be a personal preference, but I didn't enjoy it. Atmosphere: - We sat outside as it was nice out and not too warm. Their outdoor seating area is really cool with a little fountain and tables with nice "umbrellas" over each of them - Although the fountain and outdoor area are put together really nicely, the parking lot lights are way, way too bright and kill the ambience. We didn't notice this until we sat down and may have been better at a different table, but the parking lot curves around the patio area so I'm not sure if it would've helped. All in all, we were expecting some excellent Mexican food here, but we have much better food at our normal place in Washington (Ixtapa)
This could have been 5 stars but I don't think this is a safe place to eat. First, there was a lady going from table to table with a rolling booth to make fresh table-side guacamole. Awesome. I watched her put her fingers in her mouth, twice, sampling the ingredients to her work station. She did not go back to wash her hands. Literally fingertips all the way into her mouth up to the first knuckle, back to the food, and repeat. Then off to make table-side guac. She's in one of my pictures. Don't get her guac. Second, the plastic glassware is chipped and cracked which is actually a pretty serious health code violation. These small imperfections harbor a lot of bacteria and can't be cleaned properly. They have to be replaced. See photos again. Lastly, unfortunately there was a long hair in my food. Hair sometimes happens, I get it. But my experience was already tainted and I worry for the health of anyone who eats here. The food tasted great, the service was wonderful, atmosphere was vibrant, price was fair. Just very unsanitary, and that is an automatic fail.
