Went with a group of 18 and the service was absolutely amazing! The party room was great and free to reserve (fits about 30 people), which was a huge plus. We went on a Thursday, and they had a steak special, so I decided to try it. It did not disappoint—cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious! We also ordered a variety of appetizers, and every single one was a hit. We’ll definitely be back!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ Had a great visit to Scholars and Scoundrels near Katy Mills on Kingsland Blvd. While the birria tacos were a bit lackluster in flavor, the rest of the food more than made up for it. The wings were outstanding—we tried the hot flavor, spicy garlic, and honey habanero, and each one was packed with bold, delicious taste. We also kicked things off with the Scoundrels Loaded Fries as an appetizer—highly recommend! Flavorful, satisfying, and great for sharing. Shoutout to our server Lotto, who gave us awesome service and had a sharp eye for detail. Super friendly and attentive. Also, heads up: they’re running a $7 Ribeye special on the 4th of July—definitely worth checking out!
This was our 1st time here and I definitely look forward to returning. They have Happy Hour daily and food specials on certain days. The reason for 4 stars on food was because my sweet potato fries were slightly undone, still edible so I did not send them back, but will make the suggestion to cook them a tad longer when I return. Additionally, may I suggest to consider serving a side of ranch with the "Fire in the Hole" burger. It was delicious, however, I found my mouth definitely "on fire" at a certain point and while I was amused, I didn't plan my drink to food ratio well and would've appreciated a quick reprieve. Overall, I had a great time and again look forward to returning, Monica was awesome in the bar area and the 4 stars for atmosphere are because there wasn't anything spectacular although the decor was nice to look at. Thanks for a great visit, until next time 😉
I’m in town and was looking for a good steak. This location came up as it was close to my hotel. I ordered the Rib Eye and was not disappointed. The portion was great and it was cooked to perfection. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans which were equally great. I got one of the signature margaritas and that was great as well. I’ll definitely stop by here again.
I’m in town for business and stopped by to try the new location. The Elyson location has been a go-to for years, but this is a bit easier to get to from I-10. I got the queso with chicharrones and asked for a side of fresh jalapeños. Omg they were seasoned, grilled and sliced which was the very best surprise ever. I had The Walk of Shame which was a terrible choice because I had intended to eat half and couldn’t stop so I don’t have lunch for tomorrow 😂. This location has a great patio area and the staff is super nice. The owner came by to check on me several times to get feedback and just to chat. Traveling sucks but it’s nice to have a place to sit and chill out where you know you’ll be taken care of.
This place was a favorite for a good burger. Unfortunately those days are probably long gone. $24.98 before tip for a basic cheeseburger and fries is tough to swallow. The burger was yummy and service was quick. I do appreciate management’s willingness to hear concerns as I voiced one during my visit and the reaction seemed to be genuine to them addressing it. I hope that is the case. Still a great place if the new prices are manageable within your budget.
Stopped in for the UH watch party (the Elite Eight game against Tennessee). Had a good time, service was friendly. Food was good. They were out of almost all of the craft beer. They had some good selections but again, they were out of almost everything. Good place to catch a game and they have some good food options. Nice vibe.
We took the boys to an attraction in the area, and chose this place to eat at afterwards. Never eaten here or heard of it. The Scoundrel Fires for the appetizer were delicious. Forgot to get a picture :-(. My wife got some kind of chicken tacos that she said were delicious. The rest of us got 1 of their burgers with fries. The burgers were good, I personally think they are lacking seasoning in the meat and was a little over cooked for my preference. Overall it was all good. We would definitely stop back by if we were in the area.
Went for brunch and there was a DJ which was very cool. Ordered a Bloody Mary which got lost some how. Eventually it showed up but was just okay. Not sure what mix that was used but it did not taste like Bloody Revolution which I like. The brunch sweet potato fries were fantastic and the wap tacos were amazing. I also order the hot chick sandwich (fried) which also got lost and came out almost too late. And unfortunately it was the worst option. The bread did not hold up, the crust fell off and there was almost no Buffalo sauce. On the bright side, the fries that came with the sandwich were very good. I will definitely return for the brunch fries and tacos.
To be fair I was attending an out door 10 year jeep anniversary. So A Lot of people. It was prearranged. A bar back was available at the outside bar area. Finding wait staff to order even water was hard. We looked around for over 15 mins to just place an order. Our waiter tried her best to serve us. A lot of items were forgotten so there was much going back and fourth. The food it self felt like microwaveable meals were being made. The "to die for mac and cheese" was literally all but that. There was NO SEASONING of any kind used and watery (IMO) This was my 3rd time to eat there but food has sucked everytime. Drinks were good but do not order food.
Nachos were wack. Not actual cheese. Tasted like a Mayonnaise and BBQ mix. Chips were cooked in "old" cooking oil which makes them greasy and rancid. Not going back. At least not for nachos or Mac & cheese 😆 Update: second time around(not my decision) Ordered the spicy lemon pepper bone-in wings. They tasted undercooked with a very strong aftertaste.
We’ve been coming here for about five years and always loved it — it used to be one of our go-to spots. Unfortunately, since the ownership change a year or two ago, things just haven’t been the same. We’ve continued trying to support both locations, hoping things would turn around, but the quality has really declined. Our recent visits have included burnt food, incorrect orders, and extremely long waits — to the point where items we ordered were completely forgotten. We really want to keep supporting this place, but it’s getting harder each time.
This review is for the new location. Pictures are attached. Bear in mind, they may still be ironing out the details operationally. The owner was running a good show at the old location, and I’m confident that will ultimately be the case here. The food was ok - nothing spectacular today. My date’s chicken was a bit dry, and my burger sliders were average. They bring out a special ketchup with the fries, but if preferred, one may ask for regular ketchup, as well. The server’s cadence was off. We were being asked if we wanted a takeout container well before we were finished with our food. Additionally, the check was brought out way too early - making it appear as if they assumed we didn’t want dessert. It took them a while to even pick up and process the card once it was on the table. In short, some of the waitstaff need to be trained on cadence and monitoring tables without being intrusive. The environment can get very loud very quickly. It was decently loud when we went, and the restaurant was only at half capacity. I can only imagine what will happen if there is ever live music. The building design and materials contributes to this effect (look at the ceiling if you’re ever there). The outside bar looks like a good spot to relax when the weather is fair. It is very easy to go between the indoor dining area and the outside bar.
We were looking for a good burger spot and this veteran owned restaurant showed up in our Yelp! results, so we took a chance on it one Sunday afternoon. Let me start with the fact that they have a "Vouchers for Vets & 1st Responders" program where patrons can Pay It Forward towards the meal of a veteran who eats at the restaurant. I've never seen that before and it is truly amazing! I am an Army combat veteran who appreciates this! We happened to get to the restaurant at the end of DJ BRUNCH (11am-3pm) and it caught us off guard, because we didn't see it on Yelp!. No offense, but the seemingly conservative crowd, the DJ, and the rap music didn't seem to go together and, admittedly, it made me very, very anxious. It was loud and not at all what I expected. The DJ wrapped up her set soon after we sat down, which was a huge relief. On to the food! The menu was pretty entertaining, with comically named dishes, like the TUPORK SHAKUR TACOS. We ordered some Chips and Green Chile Queso as a starter, which came out with two metal platters like you'd see at a Renaissance fair. The homemade tortilla chips were pretty good, but unfortunately, the queso hardened within a few minutes of being on the table, so we were only able to enjoy a little bit of it, before the food came. For our entrees, I ordered a cheeseburger with tater tots and my girlfriend got one with sweet potato fries. The presentation was great! I mean, the bun with the name branded on it was cool. When we asked that our burgers be well done, we could here the lady at teh counter tell the cook, "I hate to do this to you, but...!" My burger was burned and dry, so it was not very enjoyable. I ALWAYS get my meat well done and this is the first restaurant to EVER burn my food like this. My tots were overcooked and hard. My girlfriend's burger was dry, but her sweet potato fries were OK. Maybe we'll try this place for other menu items. Maybe not. We enjoy restaurants that don't mind that we enjoy our meat thoroughly cooked, not burned! HOOAH!!!
I know this place is going to be great. I've yet to try their first location, which I've heard is super good! I know this location is still ironing out the details, but I'm still going to review my personal experience. White cheese nachos appetizer: cheese wasn't hot or warm. The chips were delicious but nothing but broken pieces. The green salsa was not spicy, but it was flavorful. My husband's tacos tasted good. However, they need to fill those tacos more than just a spoonful and stop doubling up warmed up, straight out of the plastic tortilla bag. Who does that?!! I repeat, the corn tortillas came straight out of the plastic store bag. That was terrible. I ordered my steak "medium," and my steak came out rare & chewy, which was gross when it stretched, and I couldn't chew it. I spit it out twice (into napkins) & boxed it up to take home to my dog. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. The crack macoroni is boring. Absolutely NOTHING "crack" about it. Kraft macaroni out of a box, in my opinion. As for service, Carlos did his absolute best and went above and beyond. The tacos came out first and were cold, eaten, and gone before my meal came out. I did not appreciate that. No tea, soda was flat and straight out a 2 lt. bottle. My husband ordered a drink from the bar (I forgot), but it was DAMN GOOD! The place is nice. Major potential with a bar. There's also a bar outside with a sitting area. Nice chill area. Great for a group of friends. Fun music of all genres and not too loud. I feel everything was overpriced, but only because of the quality of the meal we received. It just didn't sit well with me.
AVOID!!!!!! Disappointing experience, especially for the price. The tacos were underwhelming and the cilantro tasted old. Fries arrived about 10 minutes after the burger. I had to remind staff twice about my beer, and it didn’t arrive until after I finished eating. I’m sure this place can be good on a normal day, but Saturday lunch was a mess. AVOID!!! Service and kitchen timing were fast-food level at full-service prices. Kid’s meal came last after everyone else finished their meals. Two taco plates, a burger, fries, a kids’ meal, and one draft beer came out to $75, and it did not feel worth it. Wendy’s and Burger King down the road will give you better food, service, and value.
I'll start by saying that our bartender, Emma, was fantastic. This review is by NO MEANS a reflection of her. With that said, the owner decided to roll out a new menu a week ago, without warning. Not only did he decide to "change it up", but he removed the prices from the actual menu so that when you get your check at the end, it's a surprise... not in the good way. The food was sub par, compared to what we charged. When my husband ate a single sweet potato fry, he found a rather long hair INSIDE of the fry. When the manager came out to "apologize", sure he offered to remove an item AFTER we had already paid, but proceeded to blame Emma for the hair. No need to go back for food.
I’m sitting at the bar as I write this review. I walked in and was ignored by the bartender, a young white blonde lady, while she talked to all the regulars and some guys next to me flirting with her. She didn’t ask what I wanted to drink, if I wanted a water, nor offer me a menu, just completely ignored me. It took another employee to acknowledge me and give me a menu, and ask if I wanted a drink after waiting for quite sometime. While, the other employee was making my drink, the young lady I mentioned earlier finally came over after talking to everyone and asked if I wanted anything. After I told her the other lady already helped me, she walked over to the other lady and said “sorry”. I’m not sure if she just didn’t want to serve me or what it was, or why she apologized to the other worker and not me. The other reviews about “inattentive staff” and “long wait times for things” are absolutely correct, unless you are a regular. Even when I ordered my food and the young lady handed it to me, she didn’t ask if I wanted another drink, even though mine was almost empty. Tip, you don’t get new or more regulars if you ignore your new customers. Especially on non-busy nights like tonight. I’ll never comeback here, they don’t treat all their customers equal, and it’s a shame.
We were so disappointed. We used to visit this restaurant often when it was in the shopping center near Pin Oak — the service, atmosphere, and food were always great. Yesterday, we decided to try their new location near the mall, but unfortunately, the experience was completely different. I ordered the chimi churri wrap, which turned out to be a greasy burrito filled mostly with white rice, a few black beans, and literally just four small cubes of chicken — no avocado as listed on the menu. My husband and son both ordered the OG burger, which they like pretty plain but with ketchup. When the food arrived, our server apologized and said they had run out of ketchup. What restaurant runs out of ketchup? Especially with an H-E-B just down the road! We knew fries were an extra charge, but we didn’t expect them to be $6 per side. My youngest ordered a kids’ slider, which clearly stated it came with fries and a drink. However, we were charged for the drink. When I pointed it out, the server insisted that all drinks and sides were extra. I explained that the kids’ menu specified fries and a drink were included, but she insisted; I asked her to please bring me a menu. She left for a few minutes, then returned without a menu but with a revised check — she said I was right, the drink was included. Still, there was no apology. Overall it was a bad experience. Sadly, after being longtime fans, we won’t be going back.
