Grand Garden Restaurant is known for its Cantonese cuisine, particularly the noodles and wontons, reminiscent of Hong Kong flavors. Many reviewers praise the large portions and improved food quality under new ownership. Some find the prices high and inconsistent quality.
Tip: Go early on Saturdays to avoid the line. Dining in is recommended over takeout to preserve the flavors.
I have tried many Chinese restaurants in the area, but this is my first time having lunch at Grand Cafe. They were pretty busy when I was there at lunchtime on Sunday, but I got a table with just a few minutes of wait. The restaurant has a nice dining room and attentive staff. The food is delicious and does not contain too much oil. The prices are reasonable. I’m happy to find one more restaurant that I like in the area.
I recently visited Grand Cafe with my mom, and we will definitely be back with the rest of the family and will invite friends here as well. The food here is delicious and the portion sizes are generous, making it perfect for sharing. While it may be a bit pricey for two people, you will probably get more value with a bigger group of people, especially since Chinese food is typically served family-style. You can taste the freshness in each dish, which makes the experience even better. We ordered the pork ribs in Peking sauce, rice noodle roll with shrimp, combination platter of duck and pork belly, and wonton noodle soup (forgot to snap a picture of this one, oopsies!). The service was top-notch! The staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. They were conversational and checked in regularly to ensure we were enjoying both our food and our time there. In terms of cleanliness, the tableware were mostly clean. I don’t usually have high expectations at Chinese restaurants. The chopsticks provided were single-use wooden ones, so no concerns there. The interior and the tabletops were clean. At the end of the meal, the staff even helped us pack up our leftovers, which was a thoughtful gesture. Overall, Grand Cafe is a fantastic spot for a satisfying meal. The combination of delicious food, generous portions, and attentive service makes it a great choice for a family-style dining experience. Highly recommend!
Found this place for a family reunion that was mutually convenient for everyone. We had a party of 10 and they seated us at a big round table. They don't take reservations but the wait was only 15 minutes. Food was excellent. We got assorted vegetable dishes, chow fun, congee, tripe, roast pork belly. Peking duck, roast duck over rice. The Peking duck was very similar to the roast duck just sliced in Peking duck style. So not really peking duck. If you're feeling lazy, they have entire Peking duck meals but you have to ask them for the menu. We really like the Japanese fire clay pot tofu. Don't think you can go wrong with ordering a bunch of stuff. Good for sharing with big groups. Overall pretty happy with everything we ordered and everyone was full by the end. Service was super crazy fast. I don't know how they do it. Within 10 minutes of ordering, dishes started coming out one by one. Atmosphere was good.. clean and family friendly.
Great Chinese food in Dublin. We tried the chicken fried rice with chilli chicken with bones and salt and pepper shrimp. All tasted very good. I would only recommend to eat in as we did a take out few months back and it did not taste so good as the flavors gets lost. So I recommend dining in. They have good dine in service.
Great place if you are looking for some good Cantonese food. Service was good, and prices were reasonable. Really good place to come with a large group.
The food is excellent!!! Ordered the spicy Chili Chicken, dry fried fish rice and amazing pork belly. The sauce that came with the pork belly was really good and the "standard" spicy sauce was the best! We even got a tiny cup with that sauce to take home. Friendly waiters and good pricing! Definitely recommended and will for sure go there more often!
Grand Cafe serves up delicious Cantonese food. We came here not knowing the restaurant had changed names and/or ownership. When we last came here, the restaurant was called Gum Kuo. I was worried that the food wouldn't be as good as before, but my worries were alleviated as soon as I saw our order. Our crispy seafood noodles, fish fillet porridge, and Chinese doughnuts were amazing! Everything was fresh and served piping hot! We will definitely be back!
As a person from Hong Kong, the interior and food remind me a old(8-90’s) Cantonese restaurant flavour… it is just a very subtle experience from the environment and my tongue.. especially the dish Combinacion, the duck (pato). It is a delicious meal overall
Finally a restaurant in East Bay with a bit of Hong Kong flavor. Both jook and wontons are great, Fresh steamed rice rolls and typical Hong Kong side dishes are exceptional. Will definitely return to again and again.
We got the Congee with Fish Paste and the chef's combination platter. We chose two of the meats; we got the roast pork and roast duck. Congee was enough for two to share. Everything was really good. Looking forward to trying other dishes.
Like authentic Asian food you definitely gotta go here. Fresh and delicious 10 out of 10 must try again

Delicious roast pork, & duck. Very reasonable pricing.
Great food with reasonable price. My go to Chinese restaurant.
Great experience from the moment I walked in.
Wonton Noodle with beef stew and chashu is really good
Food is very delicious. Prices are great.
Pretty good food! Nice service as well!
Used to be called Gum Kuo. Food is still good and authentic. Our go to place for dinner whenever we stop by the premium outlets.
Very nice classic Cantonese/Hong Kong dishes. It's getting difficult to find such restaurants as many more mainland China cuisines are overwhelming the Chinese food market. The dishes are a bit greasy, otherwise great foods.
Very good Hong Kong style porridge, noodle, etc spot. The food is good, price is reasonable, restaurant is clean, and there is parking. My go to place after shopping at the outlets! Try their golden fried pumpkin too!
My favorite is lo mein with ginger and scallions, adding BBQ pork on top. For those of us who like the texture of sticky rice, the steamed flat noodle stuffed with mushrooms or meat is made fresh, and perfect.
Great food!... salt & pepper pork ribs are the best! All dishes were YUMMY!! Great tastes! Very good, attentive service!
Food is very good, and when you have doubt you can talk to the waitress - they are more than happy to exchange it. Lots of table but parking is tight.
Very authentic Hong Kong style food. Their wonton noodle is the best I'd ever tried in the Bay area.
Great congee and rice rolls. Freshly steamed cheung fun rice rolls - soft and smooth. Definitely not chilled beforehand!!
Authentic cantonese cuisine, big portions, fast service and friendly staff... large parking area as restaurant is situated in a plaza...
In an area with many Asian dining establishments, Gum Kuo stands out with its extensive Porridge (Jook) menu. A favorite...
Excellent food. Great service. Large quantity. And they always accommodate making special accommodations to make food that would sit well during an illness.
There is something to be said about being able to relive the classic Chinese restaurant vibe from the late 90’s and early 2000’s where the ambiance is dimly lit to save on electricity costs, the service is attentively responsive, and the food is both generous in portion and cut into the optimal bite size chunks for acquisition via chopsticks. Not too many frills or superlatives, but it’s hard to find another HK/Cantonese style place out here that reminds me of my middle school era growing up in the Bay Area, and those nostalgia vibes hit hard.
Great Place. Really family friendly every employee there was smiling and looked like they actually loved their job. Made a 5 hour drive home that much better. Thank you very much from our family.
Been here a few times, their quality food & service is a 10/10. Very efficient with their work and food is always served hot & fresh. Would definitely come back here again with my friends if we're ever craving for some Chinese food around Dublin area. 👌👌👌 looking forward to my next time visit. There was barely any wait time, as long as you know what you want to get from their shop. Their shrimp & egg chow fun was excellent 👌
Great selection of Cantonese dishes. I love the platter with their roasted pork belly. The skin is so crispy! They close pretty late so it’s a good to have dinner after outlet mall shopping. Service is quick! Would recommend it!
A few of the original staff from GK are still here at GC. Anita is always friendly & helpful w/recommendations. Food is served fairly quickly. Hot, fresh, & delicious. Remember to order the hot HK milk tea. It's so good!
Yummy authentic canto food. Make sure to order their rice rolls, one of the best places to get this in the trivalley and maybe even East Bay! I also highly recommend their duck. They do a good job rendering the fat as well as making the skin crisp. Good service for an Asian restaurant and friendly staff
Good food and service. Wonton noodle was good, except the broth was not as good as the hong Kong one. Cannot ask for more in the bay area.
Yummy hidden exquisite dining option! Workers are good at explaining their dishes. Felt like I was in Hong Kong again
I have come to Grand Cafe for meals for a long term. I have always liked their noodles. Recently their noodles (won ton noodles) are exceptionally good, very much like the traditional Hong Kong won ton noodle style. Upon discussion with their waitress, we learned that Grand Cafe has switched their noodles. This noodle is the best won ton noodle I taste in the Bay Area. Whoever is search for Hong Kong style of thin, al dente noodles, search no more, you can find it in Grand Cafe. The pan fry dishes are all good with "wok essence" (cantonese pronounced as "wok hay") which can only be attained by cooking the food under high open fire heat (not electric stove) Service is also very good as well. Highly recommended.
We ordered 6 dishes and everything was very good (taste and portion). This is the best restaurant (for casual dinner at East Bay area (Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley, Union City, and Fremont). There were many customers yesterday (Saturday) so go early to avoid the line if you want come to try.
Under new ownership and team, Grade Cafe foods have changed for the better a year or two ago. The ambience and seating are the same. Portion are generally larger. And food taste better. If you are new to this place, try it. They have a large. For previous visitors before the change of management, it is worth trying their menu items again. The menu title remain stable but the ingredients and taste improved. Service is better.

We had a wonderful dinner. We ordered extra for leftovers and that was a good call. The service was excellent and prompt. The ingredients were fresh and of excellent quality. The spicy salt tofu had a crisp exterior and a very smooth and very hot interior. It was a wonderful combo. It could use a bit more spicy salt though. The house chili paste was not to my taste, so was little used. The char sui was done to perfection. The texture was tender and juicy, though a little on the sweet side. Pea sprouts were tender and cooked to perfection. The ginger sauce chicken was very delicious as was everything else. The salted fish with pork clay pot rice was so delicious, I ate more than I intended. The crisp on the rice was perfect. The facilities was clean and the staff practiced safe procedures and spaced out dined in customers. We would definitely come back again.
New name 君悦轩 and new ownership from mayflower which is no joke! Foods are authentic and delicious 😋. Large portions make them a bargain. Service is very good 😊 Still my go-to porridge place in Livermore valley under this new ownership. Takeout is popular so order in advance.
Since Premium Outlet has no decent restaurant even for lunch, this is a very nice spot on the other side of the freeway. They are famous for hotpot for dinner, but for lunch noodle soup with Wantons / shrimp dumpling and some dim sum-ish small plates are perfect choice. They are quick and priced very reasonably. Service is not super good but they are all nice people. Ample parking.

Pan fried noodle is nice and crispy. Hainan chicken is good too.
The taste is pretty authentic and great menu if price is not an issue.
Food is tasty. Service is good. Price is on the high side.
A good Hong Kong style restaurant with a variety of dishes and friendly servers.
Fresh & delicious Cantonese cuisine. Friendly service & nice ambiance. We drive 20 mins from Castro Valley every other week for lunch dates here. Highly recommend!
Nice authentic food. Would have liked photos of dish menu. To better navigate which favorites i have but dont remember the name too. Quality was good. I approve
This place is good. Dishes were tasty and they were really nice and accommodating. The price was comparable with other Chinese restaurants in the area.
Newer and cleaner than their other branch at Oakland. Service is fast and staffs are friendly. Foods are great as usual but a bit expensive compared to Oakland
Reasonable priced and solid food. Their pan-fried noodles are very good. But their beef chow fun was somewhat of a miss.
Most of the food are wonderful. You need to try and find your personal favor. I tried roasted pork belly and it is my new favorite.
was there yesterday and the food was very well prepared. the prices are a bit on the steep side.
Decent choices of Cantonese food. Aside from koi and may flower in the area this is an more affordable alternative.
Pretty good cantonese style restaurant if you're craving Roast duck over rice/soup, congee, hainan chicken....
Porridges are good, our fave is pumpkin. Also very good salt and pepper pork.
Very good Hong Kong/Cantonese style cuisine at reasonable price. They have all the typical congee, fried noodle, fried rice, wonton noodle soup, dim sum as well as dinner style dishes on the menu. The food is all very good to great. We usually come for congee, fried noodle and noodle soup, etc. for lunch. They can also accommodate large party like table of twelve like typical Chinese restaurant. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the tri-valley area.
Yummy Cantonese style food!! I love coming here for some porridge when I’m feeling sick or some noodle soup when I just want something simple. I like the dumpling noodle soup with big rice noodles, beef rice rolls & also the pork porridge. For drinks, I love the lemon ice tea, it’s so refreshing on a hot day! The service is quick & they’re very friendly! Parking isn’t bad either since it’s at a big plaza with lots of parking spots. Overall good place for Cantonese food!
I have been to Grand Cafe a handful of times. I would recommend it for Cantonese brunch comfort food. For example, porridge with fresh slices of fish and added preserved egg, shrimp or barbecue pork rice rolls, shrimp dumplings and noodles soup, soy marinated duck wings, roasted crispy skin duck and Hainan free range chicken. One of my favorite entrees there is tofu and minced chicken with preserved salted fish. The last dish mentioned is so tasty over steamed rice. It is very pungent, and therefore, an acquired taste. In my experience and opinion, they are better with brunch type of Cantonese comfort food rather than wok fried entrees.
Large portion of each food except the fish soup noodle with normal portion only. Good taste and delicious for the food we ordered, the BBQ port and chicken are very good. Price for most of the orders are fairy reasonable.
We have gone to the original Gum Kuo in Oakland for decades. We were excited when it opened in Dublin. Overall, great food! The food is consistent most of the time. My daughter’s favorite dish is the clams with black bean. We normally ordered the clams at the restaurant but today we decided to do a take out. It was a bit disappointing. About 1/3 of the clam shells were empty! Not sure what is going. Bottom of the barrel, maybe? We would never do a take out for this dish again. We simply would like to call to their attention on this issue.
The food was delicious at a reasonable price. We arrived when the restaurant was very busy and the waitress to a long time to take our order. The food came quickly but she forgot one of the dishes we ordered. We had to ask someone else to help us but even then she did not bring our dish. We finally saw our original waitress and she brought dish. Once again the food was excellent but the service was not that great.
Not from the area and took a shot. The food is delicious. We had the hot and sour soup, egg rolls, chicken fried rice, Mongolian Beef and sweet and sour pork. All excellent!
March 2024 Returns review 3rd visit Name changed to Grand Cafe this time Won’t likely return again Duck meat is so bad, granny, my husband said tastes like cardboard.:( and it’s a dollar more expensive, I learned that when the bill came. Vegetables clay pot is just broth and vegetables. No other flavors. Rice is long rice, not as soft or tender. Sorry, it’s very disappointing. And I just saw the comparison of BBQ PORK, it’s double the price and meat is thinner !!! No! We lost a restaurant we enjoyed! ———————————————— We’ll return. (8/30/2022) Variety of rice, noodles, protein dishes options. We had a duck noodle soup. Nice soup. Only wish it would have more duck meat. Love their mushroom in the veggie dish. Also love their soy bean under the BBQ pork. They serve a pot of hot tea. We appreciated.

The food here is excellent but the service can be very spotty. You have to have patience if you want to dine here.
Okay tastes. Flavors are more southern Chinese than Hong Kong style Cantonese. The noodles lacks the springiness and porridge the lightness in taste. The sampan porridge mix of ingredients does not keep the mouth interested.
Very Cantonese. Affordable pricing. Good selection in the menu for entry, appetizers and other Cantonese dishes (like porridge). XO Source Beef is too salty for my taste though.
Fairly authentic cuisine, a bit too authentic for my daughters (but I was able to get over my initial squeamishness on eating the entire shrimp for the salt/pepper shrimp. A slightly lower score due to the fact that at least 2 of the live tanks had *very* dead fish in them.
The service wasn't very good. We ordered the seafood soup with crispy rice and that was nice and that was good, but the shrimp dish we ordered was unedible. They didn't clean the shrimp so the waste was still there 🤢
Food always great but service currently slow and rude. Ever since pandemic they cannot keep up with the amount of orders so it's all over the place. They also probably do not have enough help so makes it unappealing to go order again
Authentic Chinese food. Very delicious and most of all.....Super Clean. ***update*** Still great authentic Chinese food, great atmosphere. Clean.
Always enjoy their food however service currently not so good due to probably not enough staffing and the pandemic so your take out order can take up to 45 mins.
I don't recommend this place for vegetarians and vegans. This restaurant caters towards meat - eaters
We tried five different dishes and only found two of them that we thought were just ok. The others weren't very good. Two of the sauteed/fried dishes were prepared with a large excess of oil. We have only tried this restaurant once, though. Maybe there are other dishes on the menu we would like better.
This place is so stupid and dumb! I understand it’s inflation time but u can’t raise the price in an unreasonable rate that’s just fricking absurd! Stir fried rice noodles with pork cost $21 which I already find it pricey already, but I was hungry and in the area so I went back for it again this time charged me $25+. So crazy, I’m done with this place I rather get a hamburger down the street first then go eat some where else.

Dinner is better than food served in the morning, the congee is terrible.
$20+ plates. Expensive is an understatement at this place.
The restaurant has changed the ownership. The food tasted bad in my mouth but you may like it. I just don't like the food there any more. I used like the old restaurant food there but not this new one.
first time going there! ordered to go since we live an hour away....the customer service rep that took my ordered rude, very rushed...I asked her questions she really didn't answered me much I order Hainan chicken they added sesame oil which make the taste nasty and the chow mein I want thick noodles they gave me thin noodles and its not as great... the broccoli and beef; they gave me chinese broccoli...again they rep said I should of told her american broccoli ma'am my first time there how do I know the resturant has two different type of broccoli (veggies) 🤣🤣 not going back there
Their prices are outrageous. Now every entree is like $25-26 even for noodles and rice dishes. Appetizer prices have gone up too with some above $20. The worst part is the quality and taste of the dishes have gone downhill under the new management. Previously Gum Kao price was reasonable and taste was phenomenally better than now. I absolutely loved the food from Gum Kao but not this Grand Cafe. Suggest you go somewhere else. I don't recommend this Grand Cafe.

I recently visited Grand Cafe, and while the food was quite good, my overall experience was significantly impacted by the cleanliness and atmosphere of the establishment. First, the lighting in the restaurant is extremely dim, making it difficult to see clearly. It creates a rather unpleasant atmosphere, and this issue should be addressed to enhance the dining experience. The bathrooms were another major disappointment. They were filthy and poorly maintained. When I went to wash my hands, the sink barely had enough water pressure, which made it difficult to clean my hands properly. I even noticed another customer skipping handwashing altogether, likely due to the inconvenience. This is a serious hygiene concern that needs immediate attention. At our table, we had to clean the countertops ourselves using tea and napkins because they were dirty. Additionally, the soup bowls still had remnants of food in them, and the tea cups had lipstick marks and other residues, which was off-putting. On a positive note, the employees were friendly, and the food itself was enjoyable. However, the lack of cleanliness and attention to hygiene is concerning. I would recommend the food, but only if you’re willing to overlook the cleanliness issues. For safety reasons, proceed at your discretion. A deep cleaning and better maintenance could significantly improve the overall experience here.
This was horrible and was rather bad as it has a dull atmosphere, another thing to add is that the food is bland and I would not recommend, we also got ferociously chased outside the door for a tip witch is outrageous and I was rather cross and we did not get a glass of water or any utensils and that was bad because some people may not be able to use chop sticks and the service was not good as we where waiting for 10 minutes to get service.
Got the Roast Pork over Rice and Hubby got BBQ Pork over Rice. Protein was a small portion and mediocre flavor; also there was too much rice on the plate for each being worth close to $20. Upon paying and walking to the car, one of the waitresses ran towards us had the audacity to say "we don't cover tips. You have to give us a tip" and forced us to stand outside towards our vehicle and calculate a tip. Mind y'all, we was the ONLY non Asian people in the whole restaurant. I smell racism with that encounter... All non Asian people, stay away from this place. What we encountered was bullshit 🤬🤬🤬
Beware of the service here. We came in with a party of five and requested a roundtable. After making us wait, they left the table empty for a while, only to give it to a smaller party of four! It felt like they didn’t care about us at all. Poor communication and lack of consideration for customers. Definitely would not recommend based on this experience.
Wow! Where to begin, at the end being chased for a tip for the most unpleasant experience in a Chinese restaurant ever, or at the beginning where I was greeted by a dirty rad on the floor, that was soaking up something! Either way, if you like a bland, unwelcoming, drab and dreary food experience, at a reasonable $106 for 3, by all means go ahead. That price doesnt include, a glass of water or drinks because none were offered. And then at the end, the audacity to chase us out of the door demanding a tip, for what exactly? The tap water you couldn't even be bothered to offer us! 👍
Wow… where do I even start? If you’re looking for flavor, service, or any sign of life, this is not the place. The highlight of my evening was the dirty rag lying on the floor as ypu walked in and stepped over it—at least it had some character, unlike the food. The staff must have taken a vow of silence, because not a smile, not a kind word, and definitely not a glass of water ever made it to our table. The dishes? Imagine boiled cardboard with a hint of disappointment. Absolutely no seasoning, no creativity—nothing at all! The atmosphere was equally thrilling: dull, dreary, and about as fun as waiting at the DMV for your appointment. Service moved at a snail’s pace, which I guess was fitting since we had nothing worth eating to look forward to anyway. And just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, we were chased out the door over a tip. A tip! For what, exactly? The dirty rag show? The flavorless food? The joyless staff? Unbelievable. If you enjoy bland meals, awkward service, and being guilt-tripped at the end, congratulations—you’ve found your spot. As for me never again!
