The best coffee shop in Lockport if not all of Buffalo. Friendly staff. Cool environment. Great coffee. They roast their own beans, and have done some really cool experimental roasts using bourbon barrels. They have live music and do game nights and other fun events that keep customers stopping in. They offer flok for points towards free cups of coffee. Really one of my favorite places to go. Definitely check them out.
1/26/19 stopped by for an open mic night with my daughter. Absolutely fantastic visit. And as always excellent coffee..and food. Good times. Support our local businesses. Excellent coffee shop...great coffee🖒🖒 support your local small business. Employees are always friendly and helpful. Awesome location right on the canal. Check out the live music!
Still my favorite cafe in Lockport. They know how to pull shots of espresso. Pour-over coffee is top-notch! Menu is quite creative and changes often. They regularly feature baked goods from local businesses. Steamworks is a gem in this corner of Niagara County!
Steamworks is Awesome. The owners are dedicated to delivering the highest quality product to their customers. The place has an inviting, immaculate atmosphere. They pride themselves in making their customers feel welcome, comfortable and satisfied. Fresh on site roasted coffee beans, quality you can't find at the local franchise coffee shops. Worth the trip indeed!
As a dog owner I am in love with the fact they have a drink totally dog friendly. Took my pup there today and the man working was so amazing he brought my dog a treat and even brought my drink to me. 100% happy with that. Teas and coffee are amazing and refreshing, the environment is clean, happy and a great place to relax. You can play chess or any board game while you hang out and they even have a cute little spot outside for dogs to drink fresh water. Im in love with this place.
Had this coffee for the first time at an airbnb my wife and I stayed at for our anniversary. Loved the coffee so much I had to ask where they got it from and they said steamworks coffee. Now I have never physically been here, but I can tell you the coffee is excellent. I look forward to visiting soon.
Consistently well crafted coffee and friendly management. Using the Joe app makes ordering effortless. Not a large interior for enjoying your purchases, but during the better weather, the outdoor area is prime Erie canal viewing!
Love their coffee. It is always fresh and flavorful. They make a great variety of coffee drinks. I'm willing to say this might be the best coffee Ive ever had and they are slowly turning me into a coffee snob. :) Highly recommend! (Note to bicyclists traveling on the Erie Canal: they do not have sandwiches or anything other than baked goods. EDIT on 9/23/19: they now offer sandwiches from Stooges restaurant on Fridays and weekends!! Yay!!)
Wow! What an amazing experience. The service was top notch! The lattes and baked goods were fantastic. They really take pride in their work here and it shows. They made certain we had everything we needed and that our drinks were made to our liking. Highly recommend this super cute place!
Steamworks is a serene Cafe located along the Erie Canal - if you're looking for a pick-me-up, something sweet, or other baked goods, this is the place to go! It's a nice place to view the Locks & enjoy a delightful cup of coffee!
One of my new favorite coffee shops. I love that you get to select your beans and how you want it brewed. The food is also always great, the cinnamon rolls in particular are amazing.
Great place to go on a Saturday morning... starting the day right! Highly recommend!
Love this coffee shop! They change up their coffees throughout the year but always bring back their classics! So darn tasty and super kind people too!
Very comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The drinks are always great especially being able to watch them brew your drink. (I love their tea personally I'm not a big coffee person) the prices are good as well.
Nice little place to go and relax great selection of coffee and teas . When you walk in the smell is just overwhelming , such a nice aroma to enjoy
Finally! I found a wonderful local coffee shop to get a wonderful, fast and fresh breakfast! My fiance and I ordered early this morning ... Our coffees / bagels were so DELICIOUS were debating ordering another round for tomorrow morning! Not only that, but my goodness, everyone was so welcoming and polite when I walked in!😊 Thank you guys so much for such a wonderful start to our day!
This place opened right next door to where I work. I try to visit a couple times a week for the Brazilian coffee. And if I am hungry, they normally have quick bites from a local bakery called Tater Cakes. The cinnamon rolls are excellent. The wall art is very cool. On certain days (normally a Saturday or Sunday), they offer live music. An all-around cool place to visit.
Awesome little coffee shop a stones throw from a great ice cream parlor (lake effect ice cream). What more could you ask for!? They were playing great music at a good sound level. The staff was very nice. I will definitely be back to this little gem in Lockport very soon.
Great coffee, owner does an awesome job sourcing and roasting. I drive up to Lockport from Buffalo every few weeks just to get coffee. This is a must try place if you really appreciate quality coffee, not just warm cream-sugar water.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, really interesting imaginative decor and an AMAZING drinks menu. Its obvious a lot of love and care goes into this place. Absolutly lovely. 10/10 excellent coffee shop.
I’ve been drinking coffee a long time. Steamworks makes the best iced latte I’ve ever had!!! Looking forward to buying some beans to bring home. Friendly staff and DELICIOUS coffee!!! So glad you are here!
The staff here is all very friendly and knowledgeable about the types of drinks and beans they have available. It's a great place to study or catch up over a cup of coffee and the environment is very welcoming. I definitely see myself returning soon
The drinks and food is awesome, cool little shop with good vibes and nice people working
Everytime we are in the area we stop in to get a cup or two to go. Place is clean, and product spectacular. Owners obviously take pride in their business. The baked goods are fresh too. Have recommended to many people. Even our may professional acquaintances frequent Steamworks. Keep up the excellent products and see you soon, for more coffee beans to use at home. Thank you so much.
Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. Picturesque location, quaint little coffee shop, and amazing smells paint a picture of a calmer time. Giant steam punk mural on the wall is gorgeous, and you can't go wrong with the coffee choices. Delicious little baked goods are available as well, but they clearly know their coffee because that shines. Fantastic date night idea!
Delicious, must stop if you enjoy a good cup of Java. The treats looked amazing and the shop was clean.
I use to come here a lot with a writing group. Great environment for studying with a good cup of coffee. Or if its Autumn to get yourself a cup of hot apple cider
This place is a treat...located in a perfect spot, fast friendly service, espressos and coffees no matter how it's prepared to your liking are delicious 😋, but get there early and fast because popular season flavors do tend to go 😀. Love the little sheriff sticker on the cups, a cute touch, and price are reasonable.
The drinks here are SO GOOD! The atmosphere in the shop is very warm and inviting and the mural on the one wall is very cool to look at as you wait for your order. If they have it again I definitely recommend trying the lilac lemonade, it’s phenomenal.
I’ve been a customer here for a few years now and it is honestly the best place for a good cup of coffee! We also purchase their beans to make coffee at home. They have various delicious pastries too! Also love that they partner up with Power City Eatery in Niagara Falls. Highly recommend!
Coffee lovers rejoice! This place is what you've been dreaming of. Fresh coffee beans roasted in house takes all fo their coffee & espresso beverages to the next level. Great selection of teas, tea-lattes, lots of fun seasonal options often made with house-made syrups. Baristas are super friendly, pasteries are HUGE and delicious. Atmosphere is perfect with their beautiful views of the historic locks and their whimsical steam-punk decor. Just go!
Cute coffee shop in a nice location. Plenty of places to sit outside when the weather permits. Service was good and staff was very friendly.
The barista and cashier was pleasant and made me an excellent hot chai latte with almond milk. The butter tarts and cheese danish are fresh and delicious. Plenty of seating.
Great local coffee shop. Located in the Erie Canal, overlooking the locks in Lockport, it's a great place to enjoy a morning coffee, tea, latte or any number of other beverages. Seating is limited but if the weather is nice, enjoy a walk along the canal enjoying your beverage and treats.
Steamworks Coffee is a nice place to go for your coffee needs. Family run friendly atmosphere with a variety of coffee drinks available. My wife and I love their own brand of coffee bean flavors which they make themselves. So much so that now since we moved West we have ordered our favorite coffee in 5 pound bags and had it sent to us !!
Very friendly staff! They're always so kind...I work next door and they make my 10 Cream, 10 sugar perfect 👌 😂
Stopped in to get some water ( which was generously provided) and bought an awesome butter torte as well. A wonderful shop with fantastic people.... Thank You!
Very happy to find this place while passing through on vacation. EXCELLENT quality, and run by friendly, positive, fun-loving people. Wife had hot tea, I had a latte, and we both remarked that our drinks were very good, with no funny - business aftertaste. Comfortable space; tons of board games on the shelf; wish we'd had more time to hang and relax. Roasting fresh beans on site. Highly recommend!
We stopped in while bicycling the erie canal path. Fantastic coffee, with an amazing cinnamon roll!
This is my favorite coffee place, their coffee and tea is absolutely hands down the best. So tasty I could drink it in gallons. Such a beautiful shop too, clean well lit and right on the locks of the canal. Just beautiful! They offer pastries and some juices in their cooler so you'll find something for everyone.
I saw how highly rated they were by local reviewers and thought, “how can I have not yet visited a place so highly rated?” One sip I’d my seasonal orange hot cocoa later, with a slow, “dayummm”, I knew exactly how it came to be so widely praised. It’s that good. I wish I had another. My SO, who rarely praises coffee, pointed out that baristas has been trained well, and thoroughly enjoyed his mocha and gluten-free biscotti. I will visit the next time I’m in Lockport.
This is an amazing coffee shop. They have a wonderful friendly staff and nice relaxed setting. The coffee is freshly roasted, with a nice variety. I loved the Organic Peru coffee I ordered. They brewed it perfectly. I ended up buying a bag of beans that have been roasted just a week ago, fresher than any coffee I have purchased elsewhere. If you go, the Sherlock is a must try. It's a lavender syrup in earl grey tea. A delicious combo that tastes like fruitloops. They have a great assortment of unique boardgames so you can play games and have a nice relaxing drink.
Steamworks is hands down the best coffee spot in Lockport! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for getting work done or just relaxing. The coffee is always top-notch smooth, rich, and perfectly brewed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making great recommendations if you’re unsure what to try. Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup or hanging out for a while, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend
Twenty of us (17 cyclists from the UK and our 3 support crew) called into Steamworks Coffee on a Sunday morning, the first day of our six-day, 553-mile cycle ride from Niagara Falls to Manhattan, and are glad we did! Great coffee and snacks, ideal location next to the Erie Canal and super efficient staff. Thank you!
LOVE this place! Have been going to Steamworks for years now. The atmosphere of the shop is super homey and warm--plants and interesting decor. Was a great place to hang (pre-COVID). The coffee is very good. I always get a mocha latte and it's never too sweet or bitter for me. I have also tried their Keto-friendly options (cream and sugar-free syrup) and am happy with that option as well. Their location is situated right on the Lockport Locks, so it's my recommendation to grab a coffee or a treat and stroll the path along the locks and canal.
Was skateboarding by an saw someone come out with a coffee, Sparked my interest so I headed in , was greeted by friendly staff an told them this was my first time, they gave me a lil run down an I grabbed a double shot of espresso, very very delicious even just black really good flavor, i love small local shops like this one so it’s nice to hav one close to me! Can’t believe I never heard of steamworks coffee! Will be back thank you for making this cloudy day alil better !! ✌️
My wife and I were out on a day trip and stopped in to Lockport for coffee, a Google search brought us to Steam works Coffee. My wife ordered a caramel macchiato, and I ordered an Istanbul. We each ordered a cinnamon bun because why not. The coffee was made fresh and both tasted amazing. The cinnamon bun was also yummy, but a little solid. The service was quick and timely, with friendly faces on the staff members. There were a few patrons also enjoying some coffee. Quiet, polite, professional.
Please do not ever change your hot chocolate recipe! I have tried so many different coffee shops in the Buffalo area, Manhattan, and the Hamptons, and your recipe will always be my absolute favorite. I am lactose intolerant, and can rarely find a coffee shop that even offers hot chocolate without dairy in the chocolate mixture (let alone one that actually is a good recipe). The quality and balance of the ingredients you use in your recipe are absolutely perfect! I was recently in The Hamptons and it was nearly impossible to find a dairy free hot chocolate. I cannot recommend Steamworks enough for people who want quality drinks, as well as those with food sensitivities. Steamworks is truly a hidden gem! *I did edit a previous review, but I have been a repeat customer at Steamworks for years and it will continue to be my favorite coffee shop!
Visiting from out of town. Great little spot. We drink a lot of coffee. Their coffee is very good. I had the all-day drip coffee, which was excellent. After we left I wished I would have bought some to take home. My daughter loved her salted carmel mocha. Mentioned how it wasn't too sweet and she loved the salted Carmel. Service was friendly. Easy parking. Outside seating and nice view. We'll come back next time we're in town.
Staff is always pleasant. Coffee drinks are some of the best I've ever had. Way better than Starbucks in my opinion. The flavored lattes are usually a blend of seasonal flavors with some permanent flavors like lavender vanilla. So good. I'm not a coffee drinker unless the coffee is nice and smooth and at steamworks it is! Only food are some miscellaneous pastries which are usually very good, as well as some of the best cinnamon rolls around.
We were visiting and checking out the locks, as wr are out of state, and found this gem. The staff is amazing, the artwork on the walls is cute (steam punk theme) and they even have a wall you can add your own art, although I don't know how long it stays.
This was a gem of a find for us. Short walk from the ice rink where the kids were playing. Beautiful scenery along the lock system. Steamworks Coffee has a great aesthetic and the Sherlock Latte was absolutely amazing (Earl Grey and Lavender).
An excellent and unique business with a ever present steamboat punk vibe. Service was fast and friendly, plenty of options for both tea and coffee and some bakery items. Well worth the stop. Prices for beans are bit higher but then again not too many artisan roasters in Lockport. Location is great and within the downtown historic canal district.
When in Lockport this is a must stop for us! The "meeple" latte (hot or iced) is our go to drink. They occasionally have a toffee scone that ranks very high on the sweet treat scale (though it is a very rare find). Close proximity to the bike path makes this a destination as well!
I'm writing this review from Steamworks, seated at a four top by the window overlooking the historic Erie Canal. It's Sunday afternoon. There are three people working the counter. That may seem excessive for this little small town coffee shop, but trust me, they needed the help! This place was seriously hopping when my friend and I first walked in here. There was one free table, and we quickly grabbed it before ordering. Since we ordered and received our coffees, it has cleared out a bit, but there are other people working in here, one reading, and a couple of girls chatting. If it starts to pick back up, the third worker will be warranted. If I lived in Lockport, this is the kind of place I'd hang out all the time. I'd come here to read my book club selections. I'd come to work. I'd come to write my Yelp reviews. I'd meet my friends for coffee and we'd solve the world's problems. I'd bring out-of-town guests, and they'd want a t-shirt and some other cute Steamworks souvenir to be able to take a piece of this coffee shop home with them. Steamworks isn't really new anymore, but they are somewhat new to me. I came for the first time a couple of days ago and couldn't wait to return. I live about thirty minutes away. I'm much closer to Starbucks and SPoT Coffee, but the vibe in this place is much better and worth the drive from East Amherst. Parking is easy and plentiful. The view is fantastic. You can even sit out back on a bench or at a small table if you'd rather that than the view of the canal. Or, take your coffee across the one-way street out front and sit on a bench right at the edge of the canal. If you want to get a few steps on your Fitbit, take your cuppa to go and check out the local scenery. And if you're still playing Pokemon Go, there are plenty of stops nearby to keep you busy while you caffeinate.
As a person who loves coffee and visits as many unique and amazing coffee places as I can-let me tell you: steamworks is my favorite. I am usually a cream and sugar in my coffee person, just I think it adds to the coffee. I didn’t even need either of those for the pour over with their Peru beans. It was that good on its own. Their specialty lattes are to die for-and it’s my personal favorite spot to get a honey cinnamon and oatmilk latte (aka my go to). 10/10 would definitly recommend, it’s a local treasure!
Very cute coffee shop right along the canal & locks in Lockport, NY. Cute little patio in front of store, nice atmosphere, well kept. Lots of drink & bakery/pastry options. Fun wall art & chalk wall. A couple gf muffin options as well. Can walk about 10-15' across the way to overlook the locks. Will return!
Must try the Caramel Latte ☕️ !!! It is divine 👌 Such a cute place to grab a coffee, friendly staff, right on the canal. Super cute packaging!More than just coffee and drinks, they also have some amazinggg freshly baked desserts 🧁! Outdoor and indoor seating. Grab a drink enjoy a nice walk at the canal or stroll down main st and check out all the cute shops or sit and enjoy the garden scenery. It is located in a really great spot! A wonderful place to enjoy alone or with a friend! Check it out!
Max and I were about 30 miles into our 50-mile bike ride from Hertel Avenue in the city to Lockport, and we could feel the burn in our legs as we approached the final stretch. Our goal for the day was to grab a much-needed coffee break at Steamworks Coffee, a spot we’d heard was a popular haven for the local bike community. As we rolled into Lockport, the sight of the historic Erie Canal greeted us, but all we could think about was that first sip of coffee. Steamworks, nestled on Canal Street, was exactly what we needed. The café was buzzing with energy, filled with a mix of cyclists like us and locals who seemed to know they were onto something special. We leaned our bikes against the side of the building, joining a small cluster of other bikes, and headed inside. The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans hit us as soon as we stepped through the door. The place had a welcoming vibe, with cozy corners and a barista who greeted us with a warm smile. Max ordered a Nitro Cold Brew, while I opted for the Lavender Vanilla Latte—something about the blend of flavors sounded perfect after miles of pedaling. We took our drinks outside, sitting on a bench that offered a view of the canal. As we sipped, the exhaustion of the ride started to melt away, replaced by the simple pleasure of a well-made coffee and the satisfaction of knowing we were almost to our destination. Steamworks had lived up to the hype, not just as a coffee shop, but as a communal stop for those of us on two wheels, making it a perfect mid-ride retreat.
Coffee was good. Prices are lower than we expected. Quick service. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly Large variety of flavors. Good variety of coffees and teas to choose from. Multiple milk alternatives. Oat milk has been the best one I've tried anywhere. Overall: nice place to stop in and try somethin new. We'll be back.
Amazing, freshly roasted, organic coffee, and a great selection of flavored syrups if desired. A lack of precise ingredient measuring, and no thermometer for steamed beverages can make for an inconsistent product, but employees are more than willing to get it right for you. Overall a great experience. (And the collection of games and giant chalkboard wall add to the fun!)
I really enjoy this place. Great atmosphere, solid coffee and friendly service. That said, I am now use to Brooklyn-style cafes where I can do work. Time Warner Cable is awful and makes logging onto their Internet difficult and irritating. All that said, there isn't much to be done with that. Overall, very nice experience. With its open floor plan and spacious seating this place is a must visit of you are looking for a nice, comfortable and friendly place to get some work done, chat and drink solid coffee.
Nice location, staff, and coffee. Def my go to in Lockport. Their cold foam is incredible! The baked goods could be better.
You have to go inside and actually look at the decor. The steampunk look isn't my thing honestly but I think it looks great at this place. Also please try the concoctions in the fridge. Hands down If it's available I get the store made stuff every time with a latte. And I finish it before I get to the car. Also if you like pasties take a look at the counter. Heaven behind the glass
It's so cold inside. Definitely not pleasurable for dining in. Mid April I shouldn't be shivering lol. The girls working were very kind
It's cute in there, though could use for some sound buffering as you can hear people whispering from across the building. I dropped my keys in the bathroom floor and almost blew my ear drums out lol. Staff was very friendly and made everything really well Espresso machine was down :( I bought the nitro brew and a cheddar bagel. The coffee I got tasted like water. The staff happily made another avd I felt pretty embarrassed like it was me, nope still water. They gave me the concentrate they use in the brew, to try pouring it into my drink, drinking that straight was like water and they agreed it was pretty light. And I've never had covid so it's not that, and the bagel and cream cheese were delicious
We stopped in for a coffee and was quickly served. Beverages were barely warm and the biscotti I ordered was so stale and old it was like it had been sitting out for weeks. What bothered me the most was that the girl working told us we had to move our cars from outside of the front because the owner would get mad he came in and doesn’t like people parking there. I said , oh sure we will move I don’t want you guys to get in trouble (which already didn’t make sense to me why we couldn’t park there) and she said that he could come in and yell at US. She said he’s done it to customers in the past too. We asked if we can park on the side of the building and she told us not in the first spot because the owner parks there. One of our friends was parked in the spot next to that and she said “oh you probably shouldn’t park there either.” She said the whole reason we couldn’t park out front was because IF his wife was stopping by with a delivery, that’s where she likes to park. There’s enough room for three cars to park out front. Theres not any no parking signs from the town, just that the owner would come in and yell at us? We left instead of moving our cars. That’s wildly ridiculous.
Unfortunately they were out of chai tea and cappuccino (which happens) so we just ordered a couple bagels with cream cheese. They toasted the bagels and completed the specialty drinks for the people ahead of us. So while we're waiting for our bagels more people come in behind us and order specialty drinks. They order, they get served, and they leave. Then more people come in and order, all the while our bagels are sitting at the bottom of the toaster... Now cold and dry. (And we are now the only people waiting in the already ordered area) My wife finally asked about our bagels and the girl behind the counter said "Oh". Then proceeded to put the bagels back through the toaster which made them hard as rock. No apology... No nothing. Just "here you go". I understand that they were busy but how do you not see us standing by the counter (for 15 minutes). My wife and I are in our 60s and mostly everyone else there was much younger, and I don't know if that was a factor or not, but after having recently relocated to Lockport, and looking forward to checking out some of the small area businesses I know I will never go there again... Just an fyi... There was no refund.
Do not waste your time or money supporting this establishment. Will try to push their religion on you as well as they have female baristas looking for men with money- they need someone to support them since they are single mothers. The coffee also made me vomit for days. So many better options - public house expresso , Starbucks, Overwinter, Unapologetic. Do not waste your time. Awful staff and employees
Over-priced, industrial, staff was polite enough but still majorly botched a plain bagel with butter and hot cocoa order not to mention the shop was cold & appeared like a work in progress but if yuppie hippie types will pay through the nose because there's a human doing service work & it's indoors that's good for them but none of it sat right with me. Platters still holds the #1 spot for me when it's value for cost
I don't do rude people. This was my favorite place until I ran into someone having a bad day behind the counter
The woman who took my order was very nice, but the one who made my latte was incredibly rude- my latte came out in about 5 seconds, which means it was made carelessly, it was lukewarm, no foam, and when I simply questioned if it were mine, since there was another person in there- she got an attitude with me. Sucks that Lockport doesn’t have a decent coffee shop.
Edit: So the establishment responds and instead of saying “We will try to be better” they tell me no, actually we have all of those things, even though I asked a worker “Why is all your coffee dark roast?” and she responded “Because that’s what people around here like”. BE BETTER. This place is the very definition of a tourist trap. The coffee is bad, the service is bad and it seems more interested in a branding than actually serving good coffee. Want a light or medium roast? Out of luck. It’s all dark roast, burnt and bitter. Prices are high, pastries are bad and it isn’t original at all. It’s a shame. The location is great and it is located in a beautiful building. I’ve loved in Lockport for over a decade - I have suggested multiple regions of coffee and gotten blown off. Peruvian, Mexican, Ethiopian - Always an excuse as to why they can’t or won’t bring a variety in. They aren’t interested in brewing a good cup of coffee.
