Great stay at Tavistock Hotel, London! I spent 4 wonderful days here and the staff made it even better. Special thanks to Sarah and Kerry hi in reception for her excellent service, and to Kuki and Vinay in the bar for making my drinks and evenings so enjoyable. Friendly and helpful team all around. I'II definitely be back,☺️
Poppadom Indian Kitchen is an absolute hidden gem. We visited with a party of 10 for a small Christmas work gathering, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The staff were genuinely friendly, welcoming and very helpful, offering practical recommendations without being overbearing. The food was outstanding. Everything we ordered was exceptionally fresh, beautifully prepared, and each dish had its own distinct flavour and character, with real attention to detail throughout. Our order included chicken tikka, salmon tikka, Jhinga Koliwada (tiger prawns), gunpowder calamari, gol guppas, chicken biryani, lamb biryani, lamb rogan josh, red ruby butter chicken, prawn curry, along with the usual sides of rice, naan, raita and kachumber. Every single dish was excellent. Portion sizes were generous, prices very reasonable for the quality, and it is worth noting that all meat is halal. The ambience across the dining area, restaurant and bar is fantastic, relaxed and stylish, yet feels like a real hidden find in central London. Overall, superb food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended and we will definitely be returning. One of the best Indian dining experiences I’ve had in London in a while, full of flavour and individuality.
Our experience here was great! Nency & all the other staff were very friendly and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable right away. The food was delicious, fresh, and well-prepared, and the service was attentive throughout. We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely come back again.
Came down to eat at the restaurant as my parents were staying here. We were very pleasantly surprised! All of our dishes were well seasoned, good portion sizes and was easy to order a range of dishes comfortably with mixed group of dietary preferences (meat eaters plus a vegan). The pacing of the meal was lovely and Nancy our server was a delight!
Great meal at Tavistock Hotel. The burger was juicy and well cooked, and the Indian dishes were full of flavour. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. Excellent, friendly service from Seif. A relaxed atmosphere and a very enjoyable dining experience.
We had a wonderful experience at Poppadam, made even more special by the excellent service from Sri and Abhishek. They were both attentive, courteous, and genuinely welcoming throughout our visit. Their professionalism and friendly attitude made us feel well looked after, and they were always happy to help with recommendations and requests. Truly outstanding service—thank you, Sri and Abhishek, for making our dining experience so enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again.
The food was excellent the service was excellent the atmosphere was good I would certainly come back again. A good value for money. Sri was very attentive, a great character and a credit to his employers. Nothing was too much trouble to make our evening complete.
Wonderful restaurant with delicious food, but the staff truly makes the difference! I was unsure about the spicy flavors, but they patiently guided me through the menu and took great care of me, constantly checking if I needed help or extra yogurt to cool down. Impeccable service, genuine kindness, and professional care. Highly recommended!
Absolutely delighted with the experience here as always. The food, value for money, but particularly the service has been outstanding. In particular, we were served by the beautiful Nency and amazing Abishek and they made the evening magical.
Had a dinner here when I stayed at the hotel. The service was a little slow although the restaurant was fairly empty. It took a while to get some water and also to clear the table when we were done. The food was delicious. It’s been a while since I’ve had a nice tasty curry. If you like a glass of wine with your dinner ask for red house wine as it was amazing. I will be back for some more food and wine.
We loved getting our dinner here! We visited the museum and were looking for something flavorful and filling. Abhshek was our server and he was amazing! Highly recommend the buttered chicken and Aloo Gohbi!
Excellent food, we had a wonderful time. Lamb just melted in the mouth. Loved the regional menu. Nancy was super nice and super helpful and a great food advisor!
Nancy is the best server I have encountered in my trip to London. She was attentive, kind, and truly a bright spot in our entire evening. From the moment we sat down, she made us feel welcome and taken care of. She anticipated what we needed before we even had to ask, offered thoughtful recommendations, and checked in at just the right moments without ever being intrusive. Her warmth and professionalism elevated the whole experience — it honestly wouldn’t have been the same without her. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests and takes pride in what she does. Please ask for her when you come here, as she will make your evening memorable from start to finish. Nancy is an absolute gem, and this restaurant is lucky to have her!
The waitress are very accommodating and service is really good. Athiza waitress is very nice !
Fantastic place . Sri the waiter was so attentive and the service was fantastic. Came here after bowling next door. Great portion size and extremely clean and nice space to have a meal. Definitely come back ..
Poppadom Indian Kitchen is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making the dining experience truly delightful. The menu offers a fantastic variety of authentic Indian dishes, each bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The presentation is impeccable, and the attention to detail is evident in every dish. The restaurant's commitment to quality is commendable. Fresh and high-quality ingredients shine through in each bite. The spice levels are well-balanced, catering to a range of preferences. Whether you're a fan of traditional Indian cuisine or exploring it for the first time, Poppadom Indian Kitchen is a must-visit. The ambiance, service, and, most importantly, the delicious food make it a standout dining destination. I highly recommend it
Really friendly service and great cocktails - Rizu and her male colleague were great
Nice atmosphere. We had the chicken and fish starters, the flavours were lovely and very more-ish. The mains lamb and chicken were lovely but mild, no heat. The naans were fantastic, light and unique.
Great spot in London for food and drinks. Top notch service from tavistock hotel at tavistock square. Hospitality was amazing, especially Seif at the bar. Everyone was very welcoming. Would definitely recommend the Woolf and Whistle to anyone in the fitzrovia area.
I popped in for dinner at 5pm as I needed to be at The Bloomsbury Theatre for 6, and ordered the Awadhi biryani. And some starters. It was possibly the best biryani I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve eaten a lot! Fabulous food, service and lovely staff!
We visited the Indian restaurant and had a great experience. Abhishek was very polite, attentive, and helpful throughout our visit. His service made our meal even more enjoyable
Seif, He was a fantastic server, a wonderful experience. A very cheerful person with a great sense of humor. His impeccable service made our meal even better.
Excellent food and a very pleasant atmosphere. Special thanks to Seif for his outstanding service — professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. A truly enjoyable experience
We were served by Nancy who was fantastic! She was very pleasant and served us heartily. The food was great and would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone seeking a great meal.
We had a lovely meal at Poppadom. Nency was a great hostess and gave really nice recommendations. I will be back if in the neighbourhood.
Amazing Indian food, Chicken Tikka Masala and Gulab Jamun were delicious. The staff is lovely. We'll definitely come back when in London!
Loved my visit here! The food was great and the service was amazing. Big shoutout to Abhishek—he was really good and took great care of us. Will definitely come back
We had a wonderful dinner at Popadam Restaurant! The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The service was excellent—special thanks to shri, athira, sonal for being so friendly, attentive, and making our experience even better. Highly recommended!
Unbelievable food. One of the best Indian restaurants I have visited in London. Very close to "true" Indian food and I loved that there was more of an authentic punch to the different courses.
Rijju was an amazing server! She is so attentive and friendly <3 the atmosphere was great and the food was delicious, we only felt like the pies were a tad small
This was our first time trying Indian Food and had a great experience. The staff Abhishek was very good and friendly. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
Incredible experence here... Really authentic Indian food... Customer service from Sonal was exceptioal , very professional, kind and soft spoken.Even the chef came out to take the feedback about the food, which make our experience more personalized... Highly recommended place.... 😊❤✨
Thank you for hosting a big group of us. It was easy to book a table. Raj was wonderful and had a whole corner set up for us. The food, drinks, and atmosphere was perfect.
The service at the restaurant/bar was excellent. Rijju was our waitress and took great care of us, she was very attentive and kind. Many thanks to her.
Lovely, helpful staff. Sri offered great advice on menu and drink options. Best tikka my son has ever had. Look forward to visiting again before heading back to Australia.
The meal was excellent, and it was made even better by the service: Seif took care of it with kindness and a smile on his face. Very happy to have dined here! Would highly recommend!!!
The food was alright - we thought the portions were a little small for the price, so we ordered some fries in addition after we had our dishes. The vegan shepherds pie was a bit bland, but the chicken & mushroom pie was delishious. Our waitress was Rijju, she was extremely attentive and fast and made us feel very comfortable.
Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Very good hotel. Friendly staff, had a few drinks in the bar and seif was very polite & gave great service. Would recommend the hotel. Very affordable, good location.
Sadly the menu has many dishes that aren't suitable for those with a peanut allergy, so I couldn't have the burgers or fish and chips. I had a Steak and Ale pie for £19 which was good. My waiter, Saif was great, friendly and attentive. Curiously the music was upbeat remixes of songs. The decor and lighting is nice and cosy. It was fairly chilled in the bar on a Wednesday evening.
As we were staying at the Tavistock Hotel, we tried the hotel's restaurant: Poppadom. What a nice surprise, the setting is not particularly cozy, it is the room where breakfast is served in the morning, an effort would be made with the lighting, the white light is too cold and makes the place less welcoming. But as for the food, we were pleasantly surprised, the papadum were fresh and both the tamarind chutney and the mint sauce were delicious, so a good start. The rest ... for starters the best samosas I have ever tasted, succulent! The dakshini chicken curry and the red ruby buter chicken curry are delicious, as for the yellow lentil daal, a little luscious but very good, and as I have a (big) weakness for rather sweet naans, the Peswari naan satisfied me, it must be said that the dishes are generous, we could not finish them, all accompanied by a fairly fresh Pinot Griggio, pure happiness.
Stopped for a quick lunch before catching our flight . Came to know they only do a set 2-3 course menu for lunch and no a la Carte. The restaurant was empty and we were a bit sceptic. But the food was a surprise. The food came in steel tiffins (so cute ) was really yummy and fresh and pretty reasonable 15 pounds for a 2 course which was quite generous in portions. There aren’t any options for breads/ so you only get rice and vegetable / curries and popadum. But it was really delicious
Sief was a great server, very kind and pleasant. He helped us make food choices and he didn’t lead us wrong. I am taking off a star because the pasta was overcooked. However, the flowers were very good. Sief was one of 2 servers in the entire full restaurant and together they took good care of us.
My meal was actually in the Woolf & Whistle pub, adjacent to Pappadom Restaurant. The food was very agreeable. The service (my server was Rijju) was excellent. My only criticism is that the music was too loud.
Seif was my waiter who was very positive and friendly and attentive. Food is quite expensive (as expected in the area) and an automatic service charge is added. Although I was happy to pay it this (for service not food) this time, I got them to split the bill so I could pay service personally rather than my employer paying. I find it awkward and morally wrong whenever there is an automatic service charge. Had a superfood salad which seemed to be primarily a bag of supermarket rocket / green leaves. Sticky toffee pudding desert was luke warm. I think it was just microwaved. Chips were fine, salad toppings were all ok as well. The atmosphere was fairly chilled though and service good.
Well here we go again. Just like Brick Lane, the “Indians” (or maybe Bangladeshi) seem to think that offering a deal to the public doesn’t mean that they have to honour it. Signed up for the Beer & Biryani deal on Open Table for 18 GBP which clearly states a choice of chicken, LAMB, or veg biryani. I was expecting no choice for the beer but of course, they refused me the Lamb option (which is traditional style) and said only chicken or veg. Didn’t want to waste time arguing with idiots so I stupidly stayed and ordered chicken biryani. Chicken wasn’t that great. While there were a lot of pieces in there, the quality was poor (hence their pushing it) and didn’t have much flavor. I know the dish is made with lots of cardamom and cinnamon but having so many seeds, pods and barks to bite on almost broke my teeth. As for the beer, there is an Indian beer listed but instead I was given another Indian beer, Cobra which was flat and had a poor flavour to it (maybe stale?). While this restaurant is in a hotel and convenient for travelers, all one has to do is walk outside a few steps here or there for MUCH better options.
The atmosphere was good except for a brief moment as we saw a mouse run across the restaurant. The service was very good, although showing me where the toilet is does not have to involve following me all the way there. Lastly, there is a service charge which I hadn't noticed, above average percentage-wise. Portion size is slightly below average and the flavour is nice otherwise.
Don't know how this place can call itself an 'Indian'. Limited choice of standard indian meals in the menu and definately NOT what the pictures show on google. The service was very slow. We nearly got up and to go to the one around the corner with a lesser google review. However, asked for a chicken madras when the waitress finally came. Was told it was a different named dish. The menu only had chicken tika masala and another chicken dish which I was told it was the madras but named different.. So ordered it with popodom starters. The main course came a second later before we had even got started on the first popodom, so had to eat it all together. Not as other indian establishments id been to. Where you eat your starter then they come when you finish it, with your mains. Thats what a STARTER is! The chicken madras, was a bowl of slop. It was bland and did not have any spice or fkavour to it all. It appears to be a cheap madras sauce poured over the chicken with no extra flavoursome chillis or other things that a madras would have in an indian restaurant to make it spicy/flaboursome. I gave the food 1 star but would have rated it less if i could. I have been to alot of various indian restaurants but this place is the worst. How its advertised as a madras is beyond me. Cost £15 just for the curry and the full meal £60 for two of us. I found the sauce in the pickle tray hotter than the curry If you like hot and spicy food as an indian should be AVOID this place. Also noticed when we got back that they had sneaked a £8 service charge on the bill. What service, you took an age to come, you brought the starters with the main, making us feel rushed, and as for the food. Should have gone to the burger place which also does indian take outs it would have been cheaper and on par wirh the rubbish this place serves
