I’ve been twice to Quo Vadis over the past few months and it never disappoints. Not too many tables, it feels intimate but the spac doesn’t feel crowded. You can talk (which is hard nowadays in most restaurants in London!!). They have a wonderful cocktail menu and the food is just great. Really a place you want to come back to.
A must-go in London. Amazing from start to end. It is more on the expensive side, but not crazy either. We went for dinner after some cocktails. The eel sandwich is out of this world. I loved the chicken pie too.
Fabulous leisurely lunch. Service was knowledgeable and friendly. All the food was excellent. Stand out dishes included the cured trout starter, lamb and bacon pie, porchetta tonnata, and the skate. The tomato salad was a revelation as was the peach, courgette, almond and basil salad. We just about had room for desserts, including a delicious summer pudding and profiteroles. We were a table of 6, 4 of whom were visiting Quo Vadis for the first time. They all loved it and want to return.
Wanted to try their famous Smoked Eel Sandwich for a long time and eventually got a chance to visit it with a few friends for a late lunch. Their menu was rather simple. I had a Soup of the Day which was a creamy fennel soup and a Smoked Eel Sandwich while my friends had other dishes. The sandwich was in bite size with four pieces of eel in it and it was quite tasty. The Pie of the Day was a chicken pie that was a pleasant surprise. It's quite generous with probably 1/3 chicken in the pie. The price of their wines on the wine list was on a high side. We came at 2pm and the place was like half full. The table setting was quite tight though.
Amazing food. Better service. The eel sandwich was surprisingly yummy. The earl gray martini is dangerous.
Been a long time since I’ve had good food like this in London. Truly excellent pie, great service. Loved it.
Truly one of the best and most special dining experiences I've had in recent memory. The service when I first arrived and sat in the restaurant was wonderful, before moving outside when my guest arrived, where we sat for the remainder of the evening. Ella was absolutely brilliant. Her recommendations were spot on - the eel sandwich was to die for, and the appetisers were beautiful. I also had no idea when I booked that it was Martini Time (£6 martinis, Wednesdays 6-8pm - unheard of in London, especially at such a special location) - which was a very welcome addition to our already perfect evening. We will be back on many future Wednesdays, I'm sure. Ella is wonderful - and by the end of the evening had totally convinced me and my friend to become Quo Vadis members. We couldn't have had a better evening. Highly recommend.
QV has been on our list for some time and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is lovely; very calm and cool - perfect for a very hot day in London! The staff were very attentive, without being overbearing and were able to answer our questions about the restaurant, the food etc. The drinks menu is excellent, so many beautiful cocktails! Of course, the menu and artwork, designed by John Broadley, were a treat to see - I immediately need to buy myself a print or two! The food is incredible; it is playful and hearty (a little like chef Lee I imagine). A few oysters to start, heaven. We couldn’t visit without trying the famed eel sandwich, and it is definitely worth the hype! The pie of the day with slow cooked lamb and salsa verde with suet pastry, was delicious and went well with a simple salad and fries on the side. Though we didn’t need any dessert, we couldn’t resist sharing the custard tart with rhubarb and pistachio - it doesn’t sound it but it was surprisingly light! We left feeling very full, and very satisfied!
What a great restaurant! My wife and I visited while in London, and found the food, decor, and ambience just perfect for a comfortable, romantic night out. As others have mentioned, we loved the smoked eel sandwich as an appetizer. I tried the pheasant, having never had it before, with pomme frites and found it to be very flavorful, though slightly dry. It was enhanced with red cabbage and a bitter lettuce, an unusual, surprising melange--but it worked wonderfully and was delicious. My wife tried the chicken pie with mashed potatoes: both excellent. The chicken pastry was very thin, but perfectly cooked. The flavor of the mash was enhanced with swede (rutabaga), pumpkin, and herbs, and we both really liked the flavor. Desert consisted of a delicious almond tart with custard, ice cream and cream, while profiteroles came filled with vanilla ice cream which added a suitably sweet ending to our meal. My only caveat is that I prefer chilled whipped cream rather than ice cream in my profiteroles. The food portions were generous, and we were both replete at the end of the meal. Service was excellent from everyone we met. I found it good value for money considering the overall experience. We were lucky to meet and chat with Chef Jeremy Lee while there (your Texas friends). He was warm and friendly to us, cordially answering our questions. We have his cookbook which is very well written and photographed. We'll definitely return on our next visit to try more of his inventive dishes.
This place had been on the list for a while. We went for a lunch on the weekend, booked on the day. The restaurant is beautifully fitted, and spacious enough you don’t feel too close to your fellow diners. The eel sandwich was delicious, as well as the salted trout. Their martini menu was also interesting, offering a few variations on the classics. Very friendly and prompt service. Would happily go again!
Absolutely excellent food, as to be expected. Great service also. Get a side of chips, it won't hurt.
Style and Character: Quo Vadis recently underwent refurbishment, and the updated aesthetic is pleasing. The red sofas in the dining area provide a structural elegance, although there is a slight issue with draftiness at the table next to the stairs. Food and Drinks: The food and drinks are a delightful blend of seasonal and British offerings. I had the pleasure of trying their December pie with turkey, and it was excellent. Service: The service was noteworthy, with our waiter displaying a high level of professionalism. Despite opting for a three-course meal, we found ourselves in a bit of a rush after dinner due to the need to vacate the table for the second seating. In summary, the overall experience at Quo Vadis was good, and I would recommend it. While the drafty table and the slight rush were minor inconveniences, they do not detract from the positive aspects of the visit. Given the commendable service, I see no reason to deduct a star for these issues.
Came for the Eel Sandwich; it did not disappoint. Service excellent, easy to talk in the space, friendly but chic atmosphere.
Last week, we had an amazing dinner at Quo Vadis in Soho. The service was outstanding – the staff was really nice and took great care of us. The food was delicious too! I tried the eel sandwich, which was really good. But the standout dish was the rabbit with girolles (which I did not order, so tried to steal some from my partner's plate - so so good). It was fantastic! The rabbit was tender, and the girolles added a great earthy flavor. Every bite was a delight! The atmosphere at Quo Vadis was cozy, and the whole experience made our evening special.
Guys, try the Eel sandwich, it will blow your mind! Extremely delicious!!! For the other dishes, they are excellent too. I recommend the main haddock dish, dessert with pistachios, and the sirloin starter too!! (forgot the names sorry)
OMG possibly the best meal I've had all year. Always feels a bit strong to come out with such a statement, but the rabbit main was just immensely delicious, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned - one of those rare moments were I could close my eyes and enjoy every mouthful. I liked the eel sandwich too, not sure I'd order it again but it really was a wow in terms of flavour once more. Service good, wine fabulous. I was very impressed.
I was fortunate to come to London for a holiday when Quo Vadis had finally opened after going through a renovation. My previous experience with eel has been in the form of sushi (which can sometimes has an oily taste) so this piquant version was a delicious surprise. The meaty pieces of smoked eel, smothered in fiery horseradish cream and Dijon mustard almost overwhelm the dish. But the sourdough bread pulled it together for me. Is the pickled onion a touch too much given the strong flavors of horseradish cream and Dijon? Perhaps, but I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful eel sandwich. The pie of the day was chicken with white sauce. The lovely crust with the creamy and satisfying filling were a perfect match. It was hearty and perfect for the rather dreary April weather. Loved this restaurant!
Great food in a fabulous atmosphere. Device is very attentive and competent. Every single dish was perfectly cooked. From the oysters to the skate with capers to the creme caramel a l orange to the legendary smoked eel sandwich ( the chips were also tremendous, probably triple cooked in goose fat ) this was a meal to remember.
A clean sweep of 5 stars across the board. If I could give more I would. Quo Vadis is one of the finest examples of how hospitality should be. Here’s what I liked: • EXCEPTIONALLY good service. I mean really good from the moment of arrival at reception to that of the knowledgable and delightful Lily who made sure my table was so well looked after.. • The food. I mean it’s hard to fault anything from Jeremy Lee’s kitchen. • The decor and ambience. The balance of music and volume is spot on, the room warm and inviting. • The price point is not outrageous and you feel the experience is worth every penny. What I didn’t like: • N/A Do I recommend going? YES Will I go again? YES Was it good value? YES Price point: $$$ Overall a fantastic, faultless dining experience. Well done Jeremy and your team at QV. Can’t wait to return.
Cannot recommend enough - every time I go to Quo Vadis it is absolutely unparalleled in service, atmosphere and quality of food. Everyone is so lovely and helpful with suggestions, but everything on the menu is incredible so you can't go wrong! For October I'd particularly recommend the olive bite and the fig and ricotta bread. Plus the pie of the day is always a great choice!!
Had the smoked eel sandwich here and it lives up to the hype! It was delicious!!! Also the wait staff is fantastic and were even willing to seat us when we showed up close to closing. Really appreciate the great service and delicious food!
Eels sandwich is one to remember! The rest of the meal ( baked salsify, venison and ox cheek) was delicious and service was attentive yet relaxed. Cocktails and wine list were on point too!
I really like that they change the menu here regularly and have some great traditional British dishes to try. They also have a members bar here where they have a good selection of wine and drinks. The venue itself is stylish as well.
Jigsaw puzzles. You open the box, dump all the pieces out onto the table, and your initial impression is typically, “Huh? Do these pieces in any way match the puzzle that I THOUGHT that I bought?” 🤷♂️ Well it sure felt that way when gazing at the “Quo Vadis”menu tonight. Me: “Pardon me. Is there any way that we could get a menu printed in English?” Server: “Sir, your menu has been printed in English.” Me: “Oh.” So where exactly do you go from there? Well we thought it best to have an honest chat with our server (and once we utilized our decoder rings) we felt pretty good about our choices. That is, until our meals arrived. After that we felt GREAT about our choices. I spied an unknown substance on my plate, so those of you who know me (and my sensitive stomach), will be pleased to know that I shared that mysterious substance with another Review Team Member for evaluation. After that person sampled the entirety of that generous portion, I was soon informed that the “unknown substance“ was, in fact, horseradish. 🥵 Having no known allergic reactions to that flavor party, I heaped an equally large portion onto my first bite of steak and soon discovered what a series of fireworks being set off within your nostrils must feel like. 🔥 Restraint might dictate that we call it a night with the thunder sauce, but this was not destined to be regarded as a night of restraint. (Note to self: Be sure to cancel that upcoming ENT appointment. All recent issues have seemingly been resolved; and bonus, I think I can see dead people now. 😳) Near the conclusion of our meal a near tug o’ war occurred over the plates with which our meals arrived and the inevitable question was asked, “Look, if you’re gonna keep licking your plates, just know that we’re gonna eventually need those back, ok?” And that’s…Henry’s Take. #londongreatfoodiscalling
Outstanding food experience really enjoyed all of it sides are generous and delicious
I have previously reviewed this phenomonal place - it is quite frankly our favourite restaurant in London. We had lunch here today. Highlights were my pumpkin, chestnut & pepper soup & the mincemeat & apple meringue pie.
Finally got the chance to try Quo Vadis, after years of admiring what they do (and being a huge fan of Jeremy Lee!) The Soho Set Menu offered such great value, which makes you feel less guilty about treating yourself during a long, miserable January. Besides, I'm glad I waited, as its now their 100th year anniversary, making the visit feel that much more special. Moderation has never come naturally to me, so alongside the 3 course set meal (£35 per person) we also ordered the eel sandwich (obviously) and the kickshaws - both of which were extraordinary. After our starters, the host explained that they needed to move us to accommodate a larger booking who were set to arrive shortly. What could have been an awkward moment was masterfully handled - with the added (unexpected) generosity of allowing us to sit in the private dining room upstairs, where we were made to feel like VIPs. It would be criminal if I did not mention the desserts, which were by far the best, most deliciously naughty delights I have ever had... If you're unsure, order the profiteroles and the monte bianco... If you don't think about the calories, they don't exist.
Delicious food and exceptional service. We went in a long interval between two consecutive plays (Harry Potter) and the food was speedy and we adored it, the people were friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to returning.
We had the most wonderful lunch here to celebrate hubby’s birthday. The most attentive service from David. MOTH chose the smoked eel sandwich and the jellied pork & eel terrine - I was dubious but they were both delicious. Don’t skip the grilled bread with figs grape and ricotta - divine! The porchetta was lush and the side of super crispy chips helped us mop up all the sauce. QV has a great selection of wines which David helped us navigate - my orange wine was absolutely yummy. A special meal to remember a special day. We hope to come back again.
Such delicious food . Skilfully prepared with such care . Our waiter , didn’t get his name , was perfect . Friendly , attentive , but not overly so . There when we needed . It really couldn’t have been better
Staff were really lovely and approachable. Food....oh my word! Just wonderful! Lovely surroundings. A perfect birthday lunch with my husband. Will definitely be back!
Amazing, fresh food and welcoming space. Everyone was friendly and staff went out of their way to check we were happy and well cared for. I had the fennel soup which was so good. My supper companion was a dear friend who belongs to the Quo Vadis private members club and is encouraging me to join. Seriously tempted as it’s so good, but already a member of another club. The combination of the food and the other members I met, who were lovely, would be a massive draw. I didn’t try the eel sandwich!
Solid. Brought three colleagues here during their travel from India to the United States. Wanted to share a classic European dinner experience with a modern British bend. Was flawless. Everyone loved their mains (ox tongue, trout, pie of the night - chicken), sides, and starters. You might think you’ve heard everything about the eel sandwich you could but… it’s almost barbecue it’s so good. Top notch, highly recommended.
Truly one of the best meals I've had in London for a long time. I'm a big fan of Jeremy Lee and was keen to try this restaurant for a special occasion. It certainly delivered. The service was excellent and the food some of the tastiest I've ever had. The famous smoked-eel sandwich was okay, but not even close to the highlight of the evening. The staff were supremely friendly and had great menu knowledge. I can't wait to come back.
Interesting opinions about the adorable place. Some highs and a few lows. Here in mid October/25 for a 60th bday. We were recommended to go be a Michelin star chef friend. Started out great, lovely and adorable server, really good selection of mocktails (only for me) the apps were really good. Mains had a couple of standout items, the ‘pie’ was excellent and the beef tongue was wonderful. The partridge was ‘ok’, but, it’s a tricky bird to cook. The short ribs were lovely, rich and tender and the dish also quite good. So, here’s the not so good. Service was unattentive, slow and honestly…odd. At one point, our server (the adorable one) put his coat on and went through the front of the establishment (we had front window seating) and left for 20 min!!! We were shocked! And no one came to check on us for 15 min! We finally flagged down a different server to be able to place our dessert orders. We have never had anything like that happen! Our server came back in just as we were retrieving out coats. Very odd, and no explanation was offered. Would I go back, maybe, but with so many great offerings in London…..probably not
We had a lovely time at this modern European restaurant. The service really stood out — Leah was so kind and genuinely helpful. She patiently explained all the dishes on the menu and gave us great recommendations. I absolutely loved the smoked eel sandwich, and the cured trout with peas, broad beans, asparagus, and new potatoes was so fresh and delicious.
This is a little hub of magical meetings. It holds a very unique feel of elevated energy, a touch of bouge with a real salt of the earth vibe. The eel sandwich was a revelation — great menu and general feel. I am yet to sit outside, the first floor up the stairs has been a treat of good meetings in the past. It feels like a hidden gem.
Imagine refined British cuisine in a quiet place in Central London. I was surprised at how elegant this restaurant was despite its location. Outside, the restaurant is quite loud and lively from the neighbouring bars, but inside the restaurant, it feels like you've popped yourself over to Mayfair. The first thing I noticed was how decorative the menu is. They have a variety of options for all diets. We chose a mixture of fish and meat. Their seafood was delicious. The meats were seasoned well, but the smoked eel sandwich was my favorite. Overall, it's a high-quality London restaurant. All the dishes were up to par, but I didn't quite find anything that would urge me to come back quickly.
Conveniently located in Soho, this place is a great find if you fancy Modern British cuisine. We tried a few starters, and they are all very good. We had pie and skate for the main course they were a bit underwhelming. The pie crust came a tad too hard. I appreciate the generous portion of the capers that came with the skate, but the fish was pretty much soaked in the oil. Overall good experience though.
A unique dining experience at this renowned British restaurant in Soho. It's famous for its pies and smoked eel sandwich. I had a chicken and rabbit pie Was very tasty but could have used some veggies. It's primarily meat and sauce with a crispy tasty pastry on top. The jellied pork starter was delicious as was the pistachio tart with peaches for dessert. Service was excellent and our server couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Good cocktails as well. This is a London institution and its reputation is well deserved.
Old school legendary place with hearty food, some modern takes on traditional British food, with an extensive (and not cheap) wine list. Food was top notch, loved the pie of the day (game). Service was good but not exceptional, for example when we went to the loo between courses they brought out the next course and left it on the table rather than waiting till we were both sat down. Sommelier was very knowledgeable.
The new refurb seems to have done away with the stained glass windows which is a shame. There is much more space though and it’s very comfortable, just lacks some of the old character. Serving staff were uniformly excellent and pleasant. Chef even shook hands! The main problem is that the two hour turnaround for tables is too short to enjoy a relaxed meal. We arrived 20 mins early but were reminded several times that the table was needed back. No time for coffees and liquors! Food was tasty and most enjoyable without any fiddly fine dining pretensions. If only we’d had longer to eat it!
Interesting restaurant with some nice dishes but left feeling it was missing the X factor. Perhaps i don’t appreciate fine British cuisine as much. I had the smoked eel sandwich which they are seemingly well known for. It was very tasty and quite unique. For main I had the hake which was very good too. Perhaps the service impacted our experience as we waited a long time to order and to receive food. We also felt the service was quite basic and not worth the 13% service charge they add. We paid 152£ for two courses each and a cheap bottle of wine which felt quite expensive. As much as we enjoyed the food, we would probably not come back as it lacked a wow factor. PS: restaurant feels pretty anti-vegan, not much plant based dishes.
Good meal. The recommendations for the eel sandwich is justified. It is very good. Really like the bourride hake with mussels.
Overall wonderful experience. Would go back. The mackerel with pickled rhubarb and freshly made horseradish sauce was a dream. The starter of artichokes and fennel - somewhat meh. And the main course of porchetta (served cold) is mis-categorized - the porchetta is wonderful but with all the capers, and the anchovies and the sauce - the flavors are so strong and so salty (wonderfully so), the dish should be divided in half and served as a starter. Not a main course dish at all. Despite these drawbacks the meal was wonderful and we would go back!
I dined here recently for dinner on vacation. I thought the food was quite good, although the portions were perhaps a touch small, and the waiter could have done a better job of walking me through the selections on this score, particularly because I requested it. The atmosphere is lively but not loud. Somewhat touristy.
Quo Vadis offers refined British dining with a sense of history and charm. The food is thoughtfully prepared, seasonal, and elegant without being overcomplicated. Service is professional and calm, which makes it ideal for a relaxed, grown-up meal. While it’s not the most adventurous menu in Soho, the quality and atmosphere make it a solid choice.
The concept is very innovative and the food well presented with interesting flavours, small plates are tasty but not all they work in a cohesive way, so maybe some recommendation of the waiter of what to mix and what not to would be better. Mains were outstanding, my partner loved the pie and I loved the halibut. The ambience was ok and the place was overall very pleasant. What this place fails is at service, our drinks took too long, we got the first round after the small plates, I asked for the drink menu again and it took close to 5 minutes to get it. We have to ask for water, missing fork and the check twice. Unfortunately the service doesn’t make justice to the potential of the food.
I enjoyed the food, but the service was bizarre. A waiter came over twice, visibly panicked, to move my Earl Grey tea cup back onto the saucer. I was left wondering—had I committed the cardinal sin of placing my cup directly on the table? It was uncomfortable and awkward, and I genuinely didn’t understand the fuss. Hospitality is about making guests feel at ease, not policing their every move. Sadly, the odd and condescending behavior has put me off. I won’t be returning.
This is a review from an experience from 2 years ago. Since I still feel so sad about the loss of something very sentimental to me at Quo Vadis, I am ensuring at the very least there is a public record of my experience so that the owners ensure it never happens again. At the time, after what was a wonderful dinner, and service by an attentive server, I went to ask for my backpack from the cloakroom, which, among financially valuable items also had in it something deeply sentimental and important to me. The staff said my bag was not there and encouraged to "go home and address the issue in the morning as it was surely some sort of misunderstanding. After all this was a private members club and nothing gets stolen here". Following a week of phone calls, apparent reviews of the CCTV footage and a police report (nothing happened here as the police said this was too small of an issue to investigate further), the management continued to refuse to acknowledge that the most likely scenario is a theft. Instead they keep saying they can't imagine/understand what could have happened. The official narrative is my bag disappeared from the cloakroom, rather than the obvious, it was stolen and likely by staff since it is in a restricted staff-only area. Their CEO's Whatsapp to mewas: "I am writing that there is no evidence that our organisation is responsible for the loss of your bag" - I am trying to understand what evidence is needed. There is evidence that they have confirmed taking my bag to the cloakroom, and then evidence that it was not returned. I was offered zero compensation.
