Dined here for a roast dinner on Sunday evening, what an experience! From the warm welcome at both the front door and the room upstairs, to finishing our wine in the main bar afterwards - 10/10. The room is gorgeous, very busy, even though we booked the last slot, it was a very nice atmosphere to walk in to. Service was polite and attentive, drinks came promptly, as did the food. My boyfriend and I both had the roast lamb and shared some cauliflower cheese. Everything was genuinely amazing, hot and perfectly cooked/seasoned. Yorkies were the best I’ve had in London. Afterwards we shared the “Banana Miso soft serve” - try it. Perfect light, cold and fresh sweet treat after a rich roast. We were welcome to stay downstairs and finish our wine - a very nice end to the week and would absolutely recommend!
I’ve heard about this place forever, but finally had the chance to come with a friend who lives in Islington. The space itself is a gorgeous restoration of an old pub with tons of stained glass and original decor. The weight staff was super friendly and super attentive. And it being a Sunday, I absolutely had to have a roast. I did the Suffolk chicken with a delicious gravy and veg, and also shared a cauliflower cheese with my friend. Everything was very yummy and very filling.
What a beautiful venue! Walked in at 18:00 expecting a dead space, boy was I wrong. All tables in the pub were in use with an amazing buzz in the air. I came for a Neon Naked event upstairs which was an amazing space & great event. Will definitely be coming back. Amazing staff, great service.
I went to a gig last Friday at the old queens head. I've always wanted to come here so a gig was a nice opportunity to do it. I had a few drinks downstairs, the atmosphere was lovely and friendly, it was busy but you're still able to chat and find seats so sit down and chill. The gig was upstairs and absolutely heaving which was amazing to see. It wasn't the best gig but it's always lovely to hear live music and see loads of people dancing. I'll definitely come back here for a quiet drink or to come to a better gig. The service was remarkable, the staff had a smile on their face and I was able to get a drink within minutes. I can't wait to come back again when I'm in the Camden area 😊
Fantastic place to get Sunday roast, definitely need to book! Huge, delicious portions, reasonably priced, service was great! Beautiful interior.
We had the best Sunday roast here. Service excellent- easy to book, lovely welcome and great servers. Food was Sunday roast - lamb x2 and Sunday roast vegetarian -Mushroom Wellington and cauliflower cheese ( absolutely yummy). Very generous portions , super tasty food, cooked perfectly and served hot, well presented and well flavoured. Great venue- we were seated upstairs which is amazing. (Can get a little noisy at peak times and quite a few steps to get upstairs).
Great warmth as we walked in with bartenders welcoming us in. Busier than expected but created a fun buzzy environment. Guinness poured perfectly. Just moved back to the area. After work, this will be my go to!!
One of the best pubs in London. The staff is very friendly and the cocktails are great. Very cool interior design too.
We went for a roast on Sunday and it was incredible. The food was delicious, the venue was stunning, and the service was faultless. The staff were so attentive and friendly - I don't think I've ever experienced such amazing hospitality!
I love love love The Old Queens Head! I had an amazing Sunday roast there, i’ve also attended a Saturday night there where the upstairs room is transformed into a club/ dance night. Some nights are grime and rap etc. The pub itself is just really beautiful. The decor and atmosphere is incredible, its such a beautiful building. 10/10 pub!
This is one of my favorite pubs in Islington. The party starts late around 11pm but it’s equally good during the day on a weekend if you want to sip a beer while the world walks past on the high street.
Lovely place to go for food. Me and my girlfriend got here via a youtuber who had many vlogs regarding food in London. So for our weekend out we decided to come here. First impression is that it is a real old authenthic place that you must visit. Their charisma and decoration are unique. We dont bump into much of these places in the heart of London. (Speaking from a tourist perspective) Their food was amazing and this is something that I miss in Amsterdam! Their dish was soo nice that it overwhelmed me. I had to ask the waitress how I was supposed to eat it. Combine some items or not? Their staff was amazing. There was a lady who informed us how the local people eat the famous meal. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the dish ☹️ but back to the staff. She was really friendly and helpful. Wish that more people had her positive vibes/mindset. She is a huge fan of manga if i am not mistaken. So if you read this..you are a great employee! Hope you guys will open a new restaurant in Amsterdam!
We had an amazing Sunday Roast lunch at the Old Queens Head. The place is beautiful, so characteristic, especially the second floor. We ordered a beef and a vegan Sunday roast, and then apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding. Staff were really nice and accommodating. The only downside was the price of the vegan Sunday roast being the same as the meat one. It should have been 2-3 £ cheaper since it did not come with the Yorkshire pudding nor an expensive meat.
We came here in a group of 4 for the Sunday Roast Dinner, its first come first serve for the tables outside the pub. The food was great best lamb roast I have had in years and the chicken roast was really good too. Would recommend ordering the cheesy cauliflower side. 4.6/5
Came here on Sunday and had one of their sunday roasts, so tasty and service was outstanding. Definitely recommend the lamb roast! Loved this pub so much, we decided to come back for one of their £6 cocktail Wednesday nights. 100% would recommend!
Visited the old queens head for some food and drinks. Served some lovely drinks by Octavian and Rachel and had a lovely burger served by Gabby. Catered to dietary requirements and double checked everything was all good for us when served. Very good experience and lovely atmosphere, would definitely visit again!
10/10 NEW FAVOURITE PUB IN ANGEL! You really get the best of both worlds, it's an amazing sun spot for a hot summer's day with an insane list of cocktails! It's also a great place for a fun night out with incredible dj sets and super friendly staff. You have to visit and missing out if you don't visit!!
My favourite place for a Sunday roast and a quality cocktail in Islington. The value for money is insane, food is delicious the guys at Lucky Chip really know what they are doing, Sunday roasts and the burgers always hit the spot. Cocktail menu is not over complicated , many tasty options with some surprising twists. The staff are always friendly and welcoming here, love that you can have table service upstairs on a Sunday and pub service downstairs. The pub is absolutely stunning with a decor second to none , always plenty of influencers getting their content here. Always lively in here with the winter season being almost impossible to get a Sunday roast booking. They always have space for walkins which saved my Sunday a few times.
Beautiful, simply gorgeous pub, airy and yet perfectly Victorian in its bones. The atmosphere is so timeless, makes you feel like you could spend all day in there.
Had Sunday lunch Old Queens Head Food was so delicious Roast beef cooked to perfection The staff so helpful and went that extra mile Will definitely go again and recommend it as great venue, Thank you
Popped in this Sunday for a roast and it was out of this world! The staff informed me that they have just refined a few of the recipes and it really is up there as one of the best roasts I’ve had in London in the last year or so! Our time spent in the restaurant area was great, Venus was beyond helpful and so bubbly. Will be returning the next time I can get a Sunday off!
How do I describe how perfect the service was? I can’t! There aren’t any words. The whole crew was especially attentive and made my birthday so special, but an extra shoutout to kangol cutie Callum who went above and beyond! I’ve been to OQH many times but this was truly a remarkable way to spend my bday.
I love this bar - it’s one of our locals! It’s like a traditional style pub with the feel and atmosphere of a modern bar! The staff are always so friendly! We’ve eaten there a few times too - their Sunday roasts are amazing! Highly recommend!
I came in for a sunday roast with my partner. I tried the mushroom wellington with the pinot noir. Both were delicious. I was greeted at the door by Reece, he friendly and helpful. The service was very quick despite the restaurant being full. I will certainly be going again
Amazing place for a Sunday roast - brought my sister in law here who was visiting from the states for her first ever roast and she was given a complimentary champagne to celebrate the moment. Highly pleased with the service (shoutout to Malachi) and atmosphere was great and the food was very good quality - left feeling very pleased overall 10/10 would recommend.
Brilliant cocktails and great atmosphere, enjoyed it very much, definitely the oldest swingers in town, there, but enjoyed myself as much as we used to when we were regulars twenty years ago. Friendly, efficient bar team and the glasses were cleared regularly Good atmosphere and friendly crowd.
Was celebrating a friend’s birthday meal with a lovely roast dinner. 2 had beef 1 lamb 1 chicken. All said was delicious and good value for hearty portions in Angel. We used to come and party here back in the day so was nice to come back to the pub. It was perfect for late lunch early evening drinks. Staff friendly. Everyone enjoyed it. Thank you.
Stopped by this pub and was really impressed! The food was delicious — fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavour. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making the whole experience really enjoyable. Definitely a place I’d come back to for a relaxed meal and good atmosphere.
I'm obsessed with this pub! We always come here for drinks but yesterday we decided to order the Sunday roast for the first time. It was so good! We ordered a rare roast beef, chicken and cauli cheese. The roasties were golden and crispy. Outrageous value for money. I'm going to take my parents when they visit in a couple of weeks.
I had one of my best experiences at the Old Queens Head. I was greeted at the door by friendly hosts, the bartenders were all social and friendly and provided a friendly greeting and prompt service. The weekend night club also is definitely one of the best places to go out on a friday or saturday! Shout out to Kaine the bartender for the best Plum Margs in town and some great dance moves!
Came for the new pizza and it didn’t disappoint! Amazing crust, delicious toppings and wicked service. The pub is beautiful too, tiles behind the bar are so nice. Jesse and Merlin were managing the venue and looked after us all night. Will definitely be back. X
Came here for a friend's birthday and had the best time!! The employees were all lovely & the drinks were great. Excellent service. & the bar itself is beautiful. We had lots of fun in the karaoke room.
The Old Queen’s Head is such a great late night pub - was there on Sat and had so much fun, the service was genuinely outstanding. Staff were constantly checking in on our table, clearing glasses and making sure we had everything we needed. The club room upstairs was packed (in a good way) with a great atmosphere. Big shoutout to the team behind the bar too both upstairs and downstairs, everyone was friendly and really on it despite how busy it was and we never waited more than a min or two to be served. You can tell there’s a great atmosphere among the staff and it comes across in how you are looked after. Feel like a late night pub like this is hard to come by, we’ll definitely be back!
Absolutely stunning food, roast was out of this world! Suitable for meat eater lovers and also vegetarian and vegan, some of the best food I’ve eaten! Staff were unstoppable being so helpful and attending our every needs, would defo go back to the old queens head proper pub, proper grub!
Well, what can I say? The food?- tick, the drinks?- tick, the atmosphere? Tick tock it’s food o’clock. We were served by Reece who seemed to know everything about the wine menu and who’s gentle demeanour left us feeling private but included. I had the chicken. It was soft and tender like a war time lover. The gravy was beautiful. Unlike the gravy during the war time that women would paste on their legs as to appear to be wearing tights. In seriousness, it’s everything you’d want in a roast dinner experience. The listed fireplace downstairs is cosy, the bar staff are friendly and the family based atmosphere perfectly hides the machine that’s functioning to keep everyone happy and wait times down. If I owned a pub, I’d want to own this one. But for now, Sunday dinner will suffice. Ryan.
The Old Queen Head Pub effortlessly combines warmth and character, making it a perfect spot for a night out or a cozy afternoon retreat. As you step inside, you're greeted by the inviting ambiance created by worn sofas that beckon you to sink in and relax, and the stunning carved stone fireplace that adds a touch of rustic charm. The pub is not just about the aesthetics; it’s a vibrant hub for entertainment. From lively quiz nights that challenge your wits to hilarious comedy shows that will leave you in stitches, there's always something happening. On weekends, you can dance the night away to sets by big-name DJs, turning the pub into a pulsating hotspot. Food lovers will be delighted by the menu, particularly the burgers, which are crafted to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and satisfying. The combination of great eats, friendly staff, and a fantastic selection of drinks makes every visit a pleasure. Whether you’re looking for a casual hangout with friends, an evening of entertainment, or simply a place to enjoy a hearty meal, The Old Queen Head Pub ticks all the boxes. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a blend of fun, comfort, and great vibes!
I went to this pub for the first time after having it in my sights for a while - it didn’t disappoint! First of all I loved the decor, the vibe was lovely and the staff were really attentive and helpful. The food was delicious - I highly recommend the double pepperoni pizza! Thank you for a lovely visit, I will be back!
I went on a Sunday early evening. The first floor was packed full, the host at the door asked me if I was there for food or drinks. I was there for their famous Sunday Roast. The, he took me to a seat by the window counter. I had to go to the bar and order my Lamb Roast and a glass of Pinot Noir. The bartender was nice but we could barely hear each other. This place is small and loud. The food came out fairly quick. My lamb roast was delicious. It could have been a little hotter temperature wise, but everything in that plate tasted so good. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant. If you’re interested in karaoke, they offer that upstairs. I didn’t get a chance to check it out but by the sound I heard from downstairs, it sounded like people were having a blast there.
A beautifully glamorous pub with a roaring fire and an offering of Sunday roasts! The beef roast came laden with plenty of meat and the veggie option was a mushroom wellington which comes with sweet potato in the middle. The Yorkshire’s looked like they were going to hit the ceiling ! The food was not incredibly hot when it reached the table, which was a bit of a let down. The real showstopper were the bloody Mary’s! Perfectly tart and spicy, I’d go back just for them alone!
I can’t say that much about the food and service because we went on the Saturday night after midnight for clubbng! We paid 10 pounds per person! Whole floors were packed, but the second floor were the dj performance is even more! Overall, it was a good experience. Mostly they play R&B and the music is for teenagers but the dj managed to mix with songs from 2000s so it was a successful mix! The only issue is dance floor is w/o an AC which makes breathing difficult and you sweat a lot! Other than it, it was a good bar & clubbing experience! One more good comment I wanna put is that at some point some guys attempted to fight and security immediately controlled it although the place was hell packed! Good job!
Very well priced Sunday Lunch at £17 with tasty gravy. They gave our daughter 2 glasses of fizz for free as it was her birthday! My companions LOVED their burgers and we all loved the cocktails especially the spicy mojito. The decor is fun Victorian reclamation, probably styled be a film set decorator. Sunday lunch had a jolly atmosphere for with a mix of young and old. Good bar.
I popped in for lunch with two friends recently. There’s a nice atmosphere inside and quite a few places to sit. We all ordered burgers and fries and we waited approx 30 mins for the food to arrive. The prices were what you would expect really and the food was pretty good, the garlic fries were really nice. The staff were friendly and the pub had a nice vibe.
It's definitely a very old bar/club, and some say that the place is haunted as well. You'd understand why the moment you enter the place; especially with all the old paintings and sculptures hanging on the walls all around. There's a small club upstairs. Friday nights are r&b, hip hop nights. Try to reserve a table especially if you're a big group. If not, it's a space that becomes alive only later into the night. We got ourselves a G&T and left shortly after.
Decided to get a roast today at the Old Queens head. Firstly we managed to get seated as soon as we came into the door, as other people were leaving which was good. Although, I would say it’s hit or miss on whether you manage to find a seat if you don’t book before, because they were pretty full. Got the seat right next to the door but the cold air didn’t mind us as it was rlly warm in the pub. Food came about 15 mins after ordering, I had the mushroom wellington and my sister had the beef. All round the food was delicious, potatos could have been a little hotter but it was a large portion and I can not recommend the mushroom wellington enough! As for drinks I had half pint of Camden hells. Atmosphere was amazing and the music was great. Staff, especially the women at the door, were also incredibly kind. I would defo recommend this pub for a quick drink or a roast whilst on a stroll though Isington!
A lovely pub with an interesting decor - I loved the inside of this place (both upstairs and downstairs), definitely something different. The food was average - the taste of most items on the roast was good (especially the potatoes, yum) but the beef was chewy, the peas bland and the Yorkshire pudding was too crispy and a little tough to eat. The apple crumble also was average, small portion and not enough crumble. However, the service was lovely and portion sizes of the roast were perfect. Great place for a drink.
Stunning location , the interiors are truly enchanting . It’s worth a visit just for this . The food - I had possibly the worst Sunday roast of a my entire life . The meat was almost impossible to eat , I left possibly 25% of it . Terribly chewy , awful quality . The Yorkshire pudding was burnt and dry , it almost felt like if it was an over baked cookie . Great table service, extremely attentive and Friendly the guy that served me and my friend . I would go back for drinks , the food itself was terrible .
A nice pub with a lot of space, but Sunday roast was really not good. Pudding was dry and overdone, lamb was quite fatty and portion size is smaller compared to the pubs nearby. Not a lot of veggies either. Beef was slightly better than lamb. Cocktails were good.
Lovely old pub, clean Guinness. Shine taken off by barman claiming they couldn’t plug my phone in (with my own charger) as they “don’t have ports back here.” Sockets clearly visible. Made my onward travel unnecessarily difficult, had to eat and drink up quickly. Not a nice way to treat a patron.
Before I continue the review quick disclaimer! I have never tried the food so have not reviewed that side of the venue. The 2 star rating for the service is for door staff and owner(s)/management. Queued up for a fair amount of time. Paying to enter what is essentially a pub is a bit silly and taking the mick. From the website it seems like UPSTAIRS is a ticketed/pay on entry thing so why do I have to pay to enter the main bar downstairs? If there was even a hint of a dance floor downstairs (there wasn’t as tables just stay where they are from day/lunch service) and a DJ and sound system I would understand… but alas, I was left baffled. Once inside it is so congested with no sense of order that it took 15/20 minutes to get served. I work in hospitality, I manage a venue, if it is a busy establishment then there should be a system in place of when people have bought their drinks they move further down the bar or away from the bar so other people can buy drinks… have a service area free. I get that staff cannot always enforce this and they were rushed off their feet but having it a whole row deep of people who already have drinks is a bit silly. When served staff were great! Not their fault that it’s too busy or maybe understaffed. Will give it another go on a weekend as I love the interior and beers. And will hopefully edit my review accordingly.
One of my friends was unfairly not let in and when we questioned this, we were met with pure disrespect - the bouncer threatened my friend and physically pushed her - don’t come here if you’re a group of girls. The manager came out and tried to mediate the situation but he ended up excusing the behaviour and blaming it on a “culture difference” when this was not at all what we were bringing up. My friend had her 21st birthday ruined because of this.
