Really cute restaurant with live Jazz music on Friday nights. Had the calamari and butternut squash ravioli, which were both great. Would recommend for a nice italian meal!
This place is a Long Beach staple and has been around forever. Great place for a white tablecloth dinner. Are most recent was it was a package deal with the International City theater right behind the Terrace theater. You can buy two tickets for the theater that includes dinner at LA Opera. Had a Prix Frixe menu that included dessert. Excellent meal excellent service. And live music to boot.
Excellent experience. The food was fantastic, and the server Alfredo was outstanding — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. He made great recommendations!
A group of friends got together for a retirement dinner celebration. The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. Our server was helpful with appetizers (calamari and shared salads) and wine recommendations - including suggested half portions for some of the larger pasta entrees. A truly great dinner experience in a convenient Long Beach location!
Great place, haven't been here since 2011 TED conference was held at the convention center. Buddy of mine introduced me to this new york financier, swell guy, picked up the whole bill too. Lovely atmosphere at L'Opera, a must go to place if you're ever in long beach.
The food selection, preparation and presentation was excellent. Servers are knowledgeable and attentive, operating in a comfortable environment providing a relaxing and welcoming meal. Reservations are a must have, as this is a very popular restaurant in a thriving section of Long Beach.
Delicious food, Great price, cocktails were good, service was good. Great neighborhood spot for date night. My only critique, I ordered a medium rare filet, came out more medium well, but I wasn't going to wait for a refire. Bread was soft and fluffy. Olive oil and herbs for dipping was delicious. Everything was seasoned well. Other critique is, I assumed salad came with dinner, soups and salads are separate menu items. So if you order an entree, the salads are separate. I dont think ill order an $18 Caesar again. Everything else was spot on
We eat here everytime we visit Long Beach on business. The food is spectacular, service 5 star and the atmoshere is great. Parking is a little tight so the valet is worth the money.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Exceptional! We dined at La Opera during our vacation, and it was truly a standout experience. The food was outstanding — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. Our waiter was phenomenal; his personality, attentiveness, and overall service were beyond impressive. From start to finish, everything was amazing. Highly recommend!
Outstanding food and service. Our server Scott helped us to enjoy a great meal. Absolutely the best rack of lamb I've ever had. Highly recommended.
Absolutely LOVE this place. Stumbled across it when looking for a anniversary dinner reservation. I come back here every year and am never disappointed. The food is consistent and DELICIOUS!! The servers/waiters are always so helpful and kind. The ambiance is very elegant and calming. I dont know if its everyday, but i usually go Friday nights and they've had live music which is such a nice touch. On average, I spend around 25-45 per person, which is reasonably priced for the experience and food.
Was looking for a dinner location for 4 and went in after walking by. Far beyond what we expected. All 4 dishes were delicious. Nice selection and also had a nice amount of specials to choose from. Salads and desserts were also excellent. Not much more you could ask for if you are in the mood for Italian. Would definitely go back if in the area again.
The food was great (rack of lamb, veal, and lobster ravioli). We really liked the Tricolore Salad (healthy and delicious). The music was to our liking, not too loud and annoying. Service was outstanding. Robert our waiter and Conor his assistant were very attentive, polite, and professional from start to finish. We will be back soon to try more dishes.
Wonderful experience. We went for an early dinner on a Tuesday, so the restaurant was fairly calm for most of our dinner and didn’t start to get busy until we were near the end of our dinner. We brought our little one, and the employees were very accommodating in helping us use the wheelchair lift and finding a table that accommodates a bassinet. When baby was getting fussy near the end of dinner and we had to get going, they helped us leave quickly and with no stress. Our waiter was, Scott, a sommelier, who went above and beyond with service. He was friendly, prompt, and extremely knowledgeable. He recommended to us our new favorite wine! The food was delicious and the restaurant interior was beautiful. Only con was that it was a little warm inside, I think around 79 degrees, but we didn’t bring it up to anyone because we were having a great time regardless. Will definitely be coming back soon!
This was my first time dining at this historic Long Beach restaurant. Fun fact: the building at 101 Pine Avenue was originally the First National Bank of Long Beach, built in 1906, and now houses a true icon. My review is specifically for the Rombauer wine pairing dinner held last Saturday in their Wine Cellar literally built inside the old bank vault, which gives the evening a unique, atmospheric charm. To top it off, the restaurant was also celebrating its 35th anniversary. Phil (representing the restaurant) and Mike from Rombauer were both very informative and engaging throughout the night. As a Sauvignon Blanc kind of girl, I was surprised to discover that I actually preferred their Chardonnay something I didn’t expect! Shoutout to Scott, who poured at our table he was attentive and made sure everyone was well taken care of. Two of us at the table are pescatarians, and they made sure everything was correct right from the start, which I really appreciated. The courses were thoughtful and well-paired: 1st Course: Tuna with mango and bell pepper chutney, paired with Sauvignon Blanc light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. 2nd Course: Bay scallops paired with Chardonnay the dish that actually made me fall for Chardonnay. 3rd Course: Wild mushroom ravioli paired with Pinot Noir not usually a red wine fan, but this pairing worked beautifully. I love mushrooms, and this dish was delicious. 4th Course: Some type of white fish (maybe seabass?) paired with Cabernet Sauvignon. By this point, the buzz had fully set in, so forgive me for not remembering the details, but I know I enjoyed it! 5th Course: Dessert… by then I was fully committed to my “liquid diet,” so I skipped eating it to save the calories for more wine. Overall, this was such a fun and memorable evening. Great people, great food, great wine, and a truly unique setting. I’ll definitely be back to experience a regular dining night at this iconic Long Beach spot.
Popped in for Happy Hour on July 3rd! Was delighted they were honoring Happy Hour and it got pretty busy. Their calamari is THE BEST: Crisp, generous serving with some tentacle babies! One of the best HH's in DTLB. $6 glasses of wine. $10 cocktails. Not on their HH menu but worth it: SOFFICE E LEGGERA Caramelized Crushed Pineapple, Poundcake; Hot Caramel Sauce & Crème Anglaise $14
This place is amazing. The food is absolutely delicious. L'Opera is a Long Beach staple. Not only is the food incredible the ambiance is fantastic and the service is great. I came for an early work dinner with co workers. Unfortunately I was on an elimination diet. I thought I would only be able to eat a salad. The menus are clearly marked with vegan, veg, and GF which made it easier. And even then, the waiter was more than happy to accommodate and even suggested we go off menu. While I stuck with a menu item, having the option was a blessing! Don't skip L'Opera. Your taste buds will thank you.
Had a wonderful valentines dinner. First time dining here but not our last. Our waiter was very friendly and was able to help us chose a wine bottle to compliment our meal. We started with a really good Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, our appetizer was calamari with two sauces along with complementary warm fresh bread and delicious pesto. For dinner I had the Elk special which was melt in your mouth and my wife enjoyed the sea bass along with crab meat. I didn’t take enough photos to post but we cleaned our plates and the atmosphere was romantic and nice. For dessert we both had two Espresso martini’s to cap the night. Can’t wait to go back and try their standard menu. Prices were good and the service excellent.
My wife and I had a very nice Valentine's Day date here. We really appreciate how prepared the restaurant seemed with the decorations and strategic seating arrangements by placing the couples in one area and the rest on the other side. It gave it a more romantic vibe. The food was really great. We started with a lemon drop martini and ginger ale for drinks, then bread came and we ordered calamari for appetizer then the seafood spaghetti and filet mignon for main and ended with a perfectly sweet warm chocolate cake with ice cream and white chocolate shavings. Every one of them was really good, and it seemed like others around us really enjoyed their food as well. Riley, our server, was also very attentive. He knew what to recommend and made sure to check in with us when we needed something. We did not feel rushed at all and was just overall an enjoyable and filling experience. We higly recommend this place for a nice romantic date spot.
The place is expensive but the food was just so yummy. We went on a family dinner and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered from Bruschetta, Calamari Fritti, Cappellacci Di Zucca to Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, and so on. This place is awesome for special occasions. ——- Updated: Food was yummy. The portions were good, depends on what you are ordering. Staff were friendly and courteous. The service was fast. We didn’t have to wait long for our food. Perfect place for dates. Had ordered Caprese salad, Bruschetta, Penne All ' Arrabbiata, Cappellacci Di Zucca and Tiramisu. Loved it.
A coworker told me about this elegant, comfortable Italian restaurant in Long Beach. The bartender Miguel and his team are really friendly, and great conversation. I had the Agnello AI Carciofi ( New Zealand Rack of Lamb) OMG it was so very good. The service is Amazing and the atmosphere is relaxing but yet a little upscale. The Brussels Sprouts were not too good stay away from them. When you come make sure to ask for their house special drink....Chocolate Cake. It's too die for..
Cozy, classic Italian vibe. Warm lighting, dark wood feel. Expect lively crowd. Tables packed in pretty close, might not get much space or quiet. Noise can get pretty loud. Staff are usually rushing to keep up, so service might feel a bit distracted. The food, however, is impressive — rich in flavor, well-balanced, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Loved the food here! If you’re in the mood for good Italian and don’t mind crowd, noise, and elbow room, this place delivers.
The food was fantastic but the service was fairly slow. Our server seemed to have 10+ big tables including ours. There were many times that we didn't see him for a while as well as tables nearby us seemed to be looking for him also. It was surprising because it seemed like there was plenty of staff but maybe not enough servers. At the end of our meal, the bussers bagged up our left overs but we still wanted to order dessert. We ended up having our to go bags in the middle of the dirty table while we waited another 15 minutes to get a birthday dessert and the check.
1st off - Being it Valentine's Day is not an excuse to forget about people who are literally sitting in front of you. We came Valentines day, no reservations but the bar was open seating. We were in no rush to get seated so we waited our turn. 2 bar seats opened up and we took them. Without making this post longer than it should, WE WERE FORGOTTEN at the bar section!! Not sure how that is possible. You constantly have people looking at you and not once did anyone say "oh, let me check if your food is ready". Our service even forgot that we ordered appetizers. His colleagues had plates on their hands asking who these were for?? My wife had to raise her and and tell them that the calamari and tuna is ours. Getting a drink was near impossible. A pair of regulars was seated at the bar and they received drinks, appetizers, AND their food before we did. Once we noticed that they received their ENTREE, my wife stood up and yelled across the room asking for our food and how can someone that arrived after us get their food already. They made an excuse about the meat needing more time. But the waiter that forgot about us, went to the back, and brought our food out within the minute that my wife called out their error. So this means that OUR food was sitting under the heat lamp for a very VERY long time! After we were getting dirty looks. Honestly, to me, i dont know if the food was actually really go or if it was hunger. Couple people checked up on us but the damage was done and we wanted out. Still left a good tip but same time i didnt want to. Wife and I are easy going people and understand that some establishments get busy but we are not dumb when we are forgotten. DO BETTER BAR PEOPLE!
We arrived to our reservation on time but there was no hostess to greet us. It happened that she was preoccupied with other tasks & we were waiting for ten minutes for her to return to her post to arrange a table for us. And we waited for another 15 minutes for the waitress to come, greet us, offer a drink, & take our orders. The other staff were arranging a big table behind us, dragging heavy seats & creating squeeing sounds that were quite unpleasant in a fancy restaurant like this. The food was quite unbearably salty. For pricy restaurant as such, our dining experience was entirely not worth it!
