This is our second time coming to On the border, both times we have received fast and friendly service. Food and drinks are good, even the homemade tortillas are yummy! Always received exactly what we ordered with no issues and food was always hot. Atmosphere is great, will be back.
Showed up as a group of about 20 for a dorm floor group activity. Our server and the others on shift were very accommodating and the service was efficient. We had a really fun time. Thanks so much!
Lindsay is just a wonderful bartender! Love her to pieces. Always great conversation and she makes me the best perfect patron margarita! Oh, that new manager Nick is such a sweet guy! Always a pleasure to go have a drink!
I love their happy hour. Everything was tasteful and enjoyable. My waitress was amazing even though my bestie and I were outside she never missed a beat checking on us.. Thumbs ☝ always. I will definitely be coming back..
Natasha might be the best bartender i have ever dealt with, and I’ve interacted with a few. But a full bar didn’t slow her down one bit and the service was impeccable. Will def be coming back here if for nothing else than the wonderful service and social aspect.
Went there for dinner and the waitress handed me my daughter's plate and said hers would be a little late. Because our orders were very similar I started eating her food not realizing it was hers. When we noticed, we talked to the manager who promptly made it right and didn't charge us for the two meals. I was very pleased with the level of service and would highly recommend this restaurant.
I have to give these folks 5 stars just for the amount of effort they put into making my visit there enjoyable. Please understand that with everything going on, if your party consists of more than two people you might have to wait a bit and even once you're seated there is a wait time for food and beverages. It's the world we live in right now, but everyone from the hostess to the server bent over backwards to make my night a real treat. Thank you again!
First time at On the Border in years. The restaurant looks small from the outside but was very roomy. Very short wait at peak dinner time. Service was fast and they had a couple of vegetarian choices that were really tasty. I was shocked how inexpensive it was, after eating at Saltgrass a few days go. Very good experience. We will be back. It is cold but we ate on the patio. The heaters do a great job.
Me and my family went to go eat and we said we have never had one the border and then when we got situated our waiters name was Candice and she was so nice and we had an amazing experience 10 out of 10 for being so nice
Food was good, as always. We had stacked nachos and the sampler plate. Our waitress Kailey was very attentive and upbeat, as though she enjoys her work. Means a lot to people eating out!
Brian (maybe misspelled) was our waiter. Very attentive to our table. We never needed to wave him down or have someone find him! Our drinks, appetizers and meal were served in a very timely manner. Food was EXCELLENT. Brian will be our go to server for sure!
Very awesome food my waitress was very awesome she was professional nice and courteous. What amazed me was she didn't need to write anything down she memorized both of our orders and that was very cool to see. So I left a huge tip. Every restaurant needs waitresses like that.
Our food was great the drinks were great, and our service was superior. We were lucky to have a waitress named Cameron. This was on June 17 around 7 PM. We were most impressed with Cameron who was very good about checking on us making adjustments and generally just being very sweet and attentive. When we come back, I really hope we get her again. (If Cameron reads this, we were the “not so young couple” that needed a shot of Grand Marnier in her margarita. Thank you for the really great service.)
This is the second time eating here so far and they have done yet another amazing job at the bar. The first time we ordered to go and had a drink, but this time we stayed at the bar to eat and it was very pleasant. Staff was very nice and helpful. The kitchen got our food out quickly and it tasted great. We will be going back! We both had the Chimichanga.. she had the ground beef and I had the fajita steak in mine. Both were very good. Last time I had the borderitto and let me tell you this, you better have a very big appetite for this one cause its huge! It was great as well. I would highly recommend this place for everyone.
Great Tex-Mex! Service depends on how busy they are. Great environment to take the whole family out for a great dinner. It’s not cheap but not outrageous either. I just recommend getting a water like I do everywhere. Fountain drinks are too damn expensive everywhere!
My first time there. I have never heard of guacamole live before and it was awesome. The waitress Taylor was so sweet. She truly has a heart of caring for people a d made us feel special. I love hot food and let me tell you if you want hot authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. Make sure you ask for the guacamole live. The waitress will make it fresh right in front of you. Our boss said he goes there at least once a week. And its hard for me to find my favorite dish and they have it here. It's good to see a wait staff that's sweet with a great sense of humor. Thank you for and wonderful experience last night. We will be back.
The bar staff is very nice to look at, but their service is the best. Never had a bad experience here and I have been coming weekly for the last few months. Friendly, willing to help, and fun to talk to. Cannot stress how great of an experience the staff here creates! If anything is ever wrong the managers and servers are fast to correct it, although it’s seldom anything is wrong. Best service in Longview!
Our server misheard us and brought us the wrong thing, honest mistake. He was AMAZING. He fixed our order, he was super attentive, the food was awesome. Fresh, flavorful, exactly what I wanted. I freaking love the shirts. I suggest selling them. I would 100% buy. We will be coming back. It was a great experience. Perfect date night with the hubby.
Shared an order of the chicken bacon ranch fajitas on the patio with the missus and our Shiba Inu pup, Suki!
Celebrated with the family, had to request drinks to be refilled, but otherwise a perfect visit.
The food was truly amazing. I haven't had good Mexican food in a while. I came in last night wanting the chimichanga but they were discontinued so I went for the chicken tacos. So good I came back today to order again. The manager was very understanding when I had a situation come up. It's the little things that make a bad day good. Thank you!!
my husband and i are very happy we stopped in today for dinner. our waitress zoe informed us that there have been updates to the menu items including fresh ingredients. my husband ordered the birria tacos and he loved them! the consume was very flavorful. i had the chimichanga with white queso. the shell of the chimichanga was flaky and crispy with a lot of meat and cheese. the rice and beans on the side had the perfect amount of seasoning! whatever they have done to the menu is working in their favor. our waitress, zoe, was super friendly and attentive. she made sure we were well taken care of! all in all, great service and great food. we will be eating here again :)
We have been eating here for years. The new tacos and charro beans are delicious. We are always greeted by management, and they walk around and talk to all the customers.
Great location 👌 staff are always on point. Been a regular for so long they know my order when I come in lol.
Our server was absolutely wonderful! Food was fantastic, carne asada was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend On the Border!
Brayden was an absolute star with his service very polite a sweet. When we come back will be requesting his service.
We had not been here in years, tried it out and we're not disappointed. The guacamole appetizer and shrimp and veggie fajitas were really good. Chops and salsa were good, as expected. The service was great. Will need to return more often.
It was pretty nice. Our waitress was a little bit too serious for what it was but she tried to get the point and she did bring the food out. It was good and hot. Drinks were great. Really nice time.
Ms. Abbie was a wonderful server, and the food was so delicious I had the Birria tacos!! Food got to our tables and the restaurant is very open and welcoming!
Enjoyed the food and how lively it was, our waitress was really sweet and friendly and so very attentive to our needs. Stayed longer than I should have but left full and happy. Place had nearly no empty seats but thankful for the first time experience for this location
On the Border is one of my all-time favorites. Love the chips, hot sauce, and yellow queso. My favorite meal is the Fajita Salad with Lime vinaigrette dressing. We often get the fajita family meal to go. Comes with all the sides and fajita fixings. Managers are friendly and check on the customers to make sure they are getting good service and food.
Food was good. Service was good. Chips and salsa were on point. The Street Corn was the best I've had at a chain type restaurant. The happy hour queso and guacamole was delicious. BUT! Parts of the restaurant waa grimy. The bar chairs need a good scrubbing, especially with rhe flu epidemic. The front door, as we were leaving, was so dirty that I gasped. Good food is a nice thing, but without an aggressive manager that demands an eatery that's this now to be scrubbed down and cleaned...cast a shadow over the good eats.
Some of the best salads I've had and their chips were crispy and delicious. The Birra tacos were out of this world. Very impressed. Service was amazing.

Overall, really liked the food and drinks. We were a bigger party, so the service was a little slower, but overall not a bad experience. Will go back in the future. The holiday 6 dollar drink was very good as well !
The fish tacos were delicious, and the Borderita is awesome. They can only serve you, too. My only complaint is that their hot sauce is all heat. We asked if they had any other sauce to eat our chips with and they said no.
The place is nice and the servers were very friendly the bartenders were young Hot women that treated us extremely good. I just wish the salsa was way better and the food was better too, it wasn't bad just not good.
Great place to dine alone or with a large group. Today my son chose to eat there for his bday and we had a blast. Food and service was great. Love their salsa and margaritas 😍 As always we will be back.
The atmosphere here is great. The staff is always walking around checking on you and seeing if all your needs are met. The food is always cooked to perfection and really good. The only thing that keeps it from being a five star review from me is because I think they should serve a little bit bigger portions. But don't let that stop you from going to this great establishment! Trust me you will not regret this visit. Great food, great prices, great staff, and even better memories. I send my thanks to this place.
We stopped in to eat lunch. 1st time in a long time. We had several hours to kill between Dr appointments. She had 1 beef, 1 cheese enchilada with the chili sauce and refried beans and rice. She didn't say one word , she just cleaned her plate. I had the steak fajita nachos, man was it good. Left feeling satisfied and stuffed. The waiter did a good job keeping us supplied with all we needed. Enjoyable meal.
Good location, convenient to near by shopping. Seated promptly. Our order was taken and drinks received quickly. Food served nice and hot. The Manager, Israel Acosta, stopped by to check on us. We never got our servers name. She seemed to be new or busy or having a bad day, not sure which. Friendly enough, just not the service we experienced on previous visits. We will be back.
Personally, the tortillas seemed inauthentic for the shrimp chipotle tacos, but the corn and flower tortillas for the fajita plate seemed to be the opposite, with flavor and authenticity. But the shrimp tacos were not too bad, 7.5/10. The lighting is just too dark for me, making me sleepy and making the food not as visually satisfying. Chips and salsa are good. The burritos are huge and taste great. Fajita plate is great. The service is decent, nothing to say critiquely or positively, they did their job. Service at chuys is great but the food here at OTB is better.
Haven’t been to OTB in a while. Food was just ok. Waitress was very nice. Only good thing was spending time with my friends and it wasn’t busy on a week day.

It's predictably mediocre Tex-Mex. Salsa is quite good, however. We ate in the middle of the afternoon so certainly not crowded, but service was disappointing. The overall inside of the building needs a lot of clean-up from top to bottom. Serving size is generous. There's was a plumbing problem in the ladies restroom that caused the sink faucet to spray water on the mirror when turned on. My 3 star rating is generous. No intention of going back.
So gave it a try. Service was just ok. We were on the patio and multiple tables rocked so bad we had to move. Instead of fixing, we watched multiple guest also get relocated. Food was fine.
Great food Nice server. Nasty tables. Chips everywhere, table not wiped down. Initially asked for outside seating and out of 15 tables, not a single one had been bussed. Came inside to a dirty table but I wiped it down myself and tried not to start the experience off badly.
It took a while for it waiter to come after we were seated. But he was really nice and attentive when he came. My dinner was really good but my wife got the ultimate fajitas and she only got 3 pieces of steak and the tortillas were all really small.
Very few vegetarian options. At least according to our waitress.
It was pretty dead when we got there. We waited for who knows how long before we got chips to the point our queso we ordered was brought out with nothing to eat it with. My silverware had food on it. Part of my order wasn't right but our waitress did fix it even though she had to argue with the staff. Overall the food was good.
Food was good service a little slow

After looking at the other reviews one thing stands out. The service is outstanding! However the food does not match the price. On 12-10-17 I took my family for the first time. I'll probably not return and would advise others to try something different. I ordered a burrito and when I started eating it I found that the meat was hot but the kids rest was cold or room temperature. It was like everything sat out cold then they put hot meat in it, rolled it, and called it done. Again the staff is great but the kitchen doesn't go by the same standards.
I ordered the Smokehouse fajitas: The ribs were too sweet. It was like eating candy. The other meats were good, but it was like eating Mex-Am food. More on the American side. I felt it was not authentic mexican food. Ordered my kids some chicken tenders. They were anything, but tender. I even question if it was really chicken. Beans were great though. Rice was a little above average.
The hot sauce was good! Drinks arrived quickly...however, our server wasn’t personable at all. Asked for a paper menu and was bluntly told “it’s mobile” then proceeds to bring out a pretty much blank piece of paper. Didn’t care to ask us if we needed anything to let her know, didn’t introduce herself, and when we were so unsatisfied that we decided to leave, she just said “ok that’s fine” and walked away.
The food was great but the service not so much, lack of training, lack of respect for the place costumers. Is sad cause I went back with my wife because the first time I went we were treated in a great way even the manager went to our table. This time I have to say that I have no plans in going back to this place, after 20 year's of experience on the food and beverage industry I have to suggest that this place needs much more professional supervision and a lot more training, sorry but servers don't know the menu,we got serv with no silver ware just to mention one of the bunch of the Bad service that we received last night, sorry but I am not going back!
The food was great as always -but they sat 2 babies right by us and one babies screamed & cried so loud all the time -I was choking on my food. Cost way too much to choke on. They saw that we were older people-they could of sat us somewhere else. I HATE HAVING THE SCREAMING BABY SPECIAL. I WONT BE BACK. THEY SHOULD OF DONE SOMETHING
The service was very poor. The girl looked like she was upset to serve us from the start and seemed to storm off as if she was busy (it was not hardly anyone in there). It was Christmas Eve but she should take her job seriously if she expects me to tip her well. However, I did always get refills before needed. Other servers were rude as I tried to walk to the restroom, they would storm past me without saying anything like excuse me or sorry as they brushed up on me. It is a service industry. The food was ok. Not bad, but definitely nothing special. The prices are a bit higher than other flavorful options with better service in town.
Our server was great, but we were disappointed with our food. They did not have guacamole for starters and no butter for the tortillas before our meal arrived. The enchiladas were subpar. The server was very apologetic (even though it was not her fault), but there is no excuse for a Mexican restaurant to be out of guac!!!
Service was great! The food was ok, but the place was filthy. The rails around the booth were COVERED in dust. It was obvious that the dust had been building for quite a while. We spoke with the GM, and he was super nice. He did apologize and said he would address the issue, but the place definitely needs a deep clean.
I USED to loveeee this place and then they closed in my city. I cried when they did. Then I visited Longview and had to visit because they were known for their quality. NOT ANYMORE! The food I was served today was literally just above Taco Bell or a gas station . It was extremely disappointing. The great service I received from Abagail was the only thing that saved the experience. Go ahead and think about closing this one too, because if your future customers are money conscious and have tastebuds they'll keep on driving. Don't waste your time or your money.
Came here this once, and will never be back. If you like that “infant left in a hot car” treatment, this is definitely the place for you. Stood up front to be seated for a good 10 minutes, mind you the place was not busy. Literally maybe 6 tables were taken in the entire restaurant, and maybe 5 outside. Then when we finally get recognized and seated, we were put in the back corner. To which no surprise left us to be forgotten about. Waitress even said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t even know you were here.” After waiting another 15 minutes. Then another 15 minutes for her to bring drinks and salsa. Speaking of salsa, there needs to be a disclaimer on their salsa about it being refrigerator cold, you know, for people with teeth sensitivities. Now let’s talk about the ticket. $62 for 3 lunches. Dinner, yes, maybe. Lunch. No. Super proud of their food apparently.
I went on Sunday night (5/4/25) around 9 pm. There were only two waiters left. One was really active; I didn't get that one. I got the one who didn't pay attention to the table or the customers. The good waiter would pass by my table and ask if I needed more to drink or more hot sauce. My waiter should consider a career change.
Great taste, lousy service. Service can totally ruin an experience. Having dinner with my sister. She had to ask for the table to be wiped down. We were given dirty silverware, and the replacements were wet. The waitress didn't know the menu and was drinking shots with another waitress at the waitress stand. The food quality is the only thing that stood out for this place. Oh! They didn't have corn tortillas and still don't have salt and pepper on the table. ARGH!
They change the menu and have all new servers. I went to order the same thing I ordered a few weeks ago and they couldn't even make the order correctly. I was very specific. It wasn't the waiters fault he was awesome. People just don't listen to instructions. This was one of my favorite restaurants. It no longer is we won't be coming back
My 2 star is not for the food or the service of the restaurant. It's that once again a business decides to change serving size of an item to a smaller size, but yet keep the same pricing. When a business does this and does not inform their customers, it will leave a bad taste in their mouth. My wife and I love their nachos, but we didn't realize the serving size changed until we went home from work. But charged the same price. Well I guess we will find a new place to get our nachos now. I know this will not change anything, but businesses should be upfront when they make changes.
It was not at all busy maybe five other tables sitting in the restaurant one or a group of four arrived and we waited almost 10 minutes before anybody came up with our table. In the meantime there were seven employees standing around the entrance to the kitchen area talking. I was not at all impressed, and the food was just average
Came for dinner and have been here a few times. Will not be back any time soon. My wife ordered tacos, paid to upgrade to steak. 3 tiny strips in one and 3.5 in the other.....where's the beef???? Asked the waiter if this was the upgrade we paid for....manager visits the table and says he will check into it. Manager returns and says they put 2oz weighed out in each one. So??? Did they weigh it before they cooked it and all the water shrunk the meat, just curious? Needless to say my wife reordered as I told her she didn't pay to eat tortillas and onions. They must have weighed out the chicken I. The enchiladas as well, because there was 2 inches of meat in a 5 inch enchilada. The waiter was great, thanks Collin! You lost a customer today!!!!
There were alot of issues food wise, that I will explain here in this review but before that I will say the service and atmosphere were fine if not great but the time between the appetizer and food was like not even a minute. The appetizer needs to be out quickly not at almost the same exact time as the food. That's the point of an appetizer. The food it's self for 27$ was too small, the "ultimate fajitas" were two small dishes, adequate for a child. Overall I would say this is a place that one would go to if they're looking for a type of not really Mexican but almost Mexican food that isn't the best for its value. The consensus of my group on the food was it wasn't the best on flavor and was okay. They had a flauta split into 4 little pieces for the entree that was also around 12$.
Over cooked rice. No cheese in my enchiladas service was bad. Sever didn't check on us much. Didn't get refills when needed

my wife and I ordered meals yesterday for lunch. the food tasted old and the chips were stale. the tea was way too sweet but the server was excellent. we use to be loyal customers but no more.
Went there last night with some friends and the waitress was rude to our table. I want to name her on here, but I won't. She drop off our tickets and never came back. The worst thing is that one of us wasn't done ordering during happy hour it but she decided we were done. Her eyes were dragged at us after she decided we were done. We work hard for our money and we decide to spend it here. Do better!!
On the Border used to be great but they skimp on portion size and charge enormous prices now. When you order a large queso they give you maybe 2oz at most. The chicken quesadillas dont have much chicken in them, some slices have none at all. Their fajita chicken tastes like it came from a can. To go service is less than desirable. When they say 15 minutes, expect to sit 45 or more, and twice they have completely forgotten about me altogether, the last time I called them 3 times to bring it out and when they did it was cold. Oh and they ALWAYS forget part of my order! Do not do business with On The Border Longview or Tyler, both are equally horrible.
I usually enjoy the food at OTB, but today we couldn’t get any. We sat down at 2:25, and by 2:35 we still had not been asked for a drink order, as I watched the waitress wait 3 other tables while various other restaurant employees walked right past us. We left to go spend our money where someone wants to serve us lunch.
To go order. Called when we got there. 15 minutes later, we call again. A manager with mobility issues is sent out to deliver our food. Then comes back with coupons for next time since we were made to wait so long. And the food was wrong. Second time ordering to go here, won't do it again.
Ordered a sopapilla through door dash supposed to come with honey and chocolate sauce did not and when I called spoke with the manager, that has supposedly been there for five years and does not know what the menu says tried to argue with me that it is a choice between honey and chocolate.
I ordered steak and shrimp fajitas. The shrimp was really good. The steak was undercooked and tough. We were sat close to front door. The food got cold very fast because everytime the door opened a cold blast of air hit us. The service was good but the food wasn't worth 60 dollars. The mens bathroom was disgusting. Someone had changed a baby and left a mess. I won't be back anytime soon.
We arrived an hour before closing. We had a party of 12. No hot sauce for the entire table. Chips served for only half of the table! Had to get my own drinks from the bar, when they literally sat there for 15 min or more. Really disappointed service, food and drinks. Meat was burnt, didn't even want to mention it due to the kitchen closing before closing time. Half of the table didn't even order due to the server rushing everyone. Not the serves fault but could have helped, no one was willing to help him!
I went into the restaurant to pick up my mom's take out order that she had placed online. Usually I like to go in tp pick up the order because when we try to call the curbside phone number we can't get anybody to answer so we end up going inside anyways. I went to the register that is for to go and stood there almost ten minutes without anyone ever acknowledging me. The bartender was in front of me several times getting clean glasses and never once asked had I been helped or attempted to acknowledge me. A waitress came to the register I was standing in front of and also never asked me if I had been helped. She also had seen me standing there waiting. I finally after several minutes walked up to the register and got the bartenders attention and told him that I was just there to pick up a to go order. He responded with "I'm really busy right now. There is a to go person but I don't know where she's at. You'll have to tall to someone over there." And points towards the kitchen. I walked over to the kitchen and stood in the entrance of the kitchen area and finally caught someone and told them what I was needing. The woman said that the to go person was making tortillas but she would get my order. The to go girl comes running up and then proceeds to tell me that she saw me standing at the register and didn't realize I was there for a to go. I would have brushed this whole thing off as they were busy if at least one person had acknowledged I was standing there. The bartender had the most opportunity to at least ask what I was there for. A simple " HI how can I help you?" And then "someone will help you shortly" would have sufficed. But not being acknowledged at all really has made me question this On The Border's customer service.
Sat at the table the hostess gave me for over 30 minutes without anyone approaching me to take my order, ask me what I wanted to drink, or pretty much even see if I was alive. This was after 2 waitresses walked past my area without even acknowledging me. When I got up to return my menu, I saw 2-3 servers just standing around talking. There was maybe one other customer in the dining area and they were not busy in the slightest. It’s clear that the staff here is just very lazy and doesn’t care to do their jobs. Horrible lack of service and I will NEVER be returning again to this location.
If I could rate the food from this establishment lower I would. We are from out of town and this restaurant was one of the few opened after the storms hit the area. I do not know how they can call it a Mexican Grill & Cantina their food is disgusting and overpriced, for what you get it is disgusting. Do not recommend if you have no taste buds you can go here because it won't matter. The beer was the best part of my meal. Also this restaurant needs to serve their beers in a tall beer glass not a margarita goblet 🙄
Had a burrito that had rice in it and the rice was not cooked all the way and took a couple bites and it cracked my tooth. I I informed the waitress of this and all they did was credit us 5$ off our bill I couldn't even eat my meal and boe I have to pay to have my tooth fixed. I won't eat here again.
Wouldn’t know how their food was since we couldn’t get any of the servers to acknowledge us sitting with our menus. We came in for lunch. Hostess seated us right away as there was no line. That was it. We saw 3 servers talking by their prep station, a manager walking around by the kitchen talking on her cell phone and not one person waited on us. Finally a girl came out of the back and apologized. She used the excuse that the hostess didn’t tell her but didn’t have an excuse when asked why she didn’t check on her section. One and done! They will never get our business.
Experience was not great. Sat 12 minutes before greeted by manager. No menu given. When bartender arrived he asked if I was ready to order. Informed I hadn’t received a menu. Menu provided and ordered an appetizer. Food cold, drink NEVER refilled until I asked for a togo box. Mondays can be challenging, however shuffle staff around or don’t seat the bar. I didn’t ask for food to be corrected due to my frustrations. I’ll return but it’ll be a while. Side note- I don’t care about the bartender being hungover and calling in, that shouldn’t determine how guests are taken care of.
Sorry to say, but On the Border has been bought out by a new corporation. The menu has changed and the food quality has hit rock bottom! They have changed everything from the salsa and chips down. We won’t be back, and from the number in the restaurant, it appears everyone has the same opinion. Sorry to see another restaurant chain bite the dust.
We went expecting a great On the Border meal and ended being told it was bought out by another company. We drove 2 hours as always and the Salsa was horrible, my husband got Southwest chicken tacos, bad. I got chicken fajitas, chicken was okay. Far from On the Border quality. Went to the bathroom and one of the waitresses came out and never washed her hands. We’re done.
They have changed some things on the menu. The warm salsa is horrid. Fish tacos are not as good due to a cheaper fish. The rice and beans are not so good either. Sorry on the border, guess we have to find a new alternative.
This place is terrible now. My son and i went in to have dinner. Ended up costing us 100 dollars, for a kids meal, and 2 shrimp tacos. Server was great but the cost isnt worth what they are serving. I get a bill for 68 dollars when they ran may card. I looked on my back account and they charged us 99 dollars. Will not be back. We used to enjoy this place.
