It’s hard to find Indonesian and Malaysian food restaurants in LA. We always want to find one to treat our Singapore stomachs. This restaurant popped out when we search. Super popular! We arrived there in late dinner hours and still had to take the number and wait over 20-25 mins to get a table. The food was fabulous! From the prata and pempek, to Nasi Lemak and Ayam goreng kuning, and also the cake and pandan cendol. Every single dish is super delicious! You just cannot stop eating. And the price is also very good. We definitely will go back soon! FYI it’s hard to find a parking spot in their parking lot, so FYC it’s still not bad to park in the street and walk 4-5mins to the restaurant 🤪

We came here at around 7:30 with a party of 3 on a Thursday and got outdoor seating right away. For appetizers we ordered the Lumpia (egg rolls) and the Chicken Sate (skewers). We ate two before a picture could be taken and the peanut sauce was delicious. For entrees, we ordered the Nasi Bungkus, Mantep Padang and Serendipity noodles. All three were excellent, but the Nasi Bungkus was definitely the favorite at the table. If you order it spicy it'll definitely kick! If you want an extra bit of spice with your meal be sure to ask for the spicy sambal. You can also go to the bar next door to get beers to bring back to the table.

The hot sauce is always on the side, which I love, because it lets me decide just how much danger I want to be in that day. (Spoiler: It’s usually full danger.) Whether you’re rolling in with a whole squad or just your foodie BFF, Simpang Asia is group-dining GOALS. Inside is all hip and cozy, and the outside seating? Chef’s kiss. On a beautiful LA night? You’re basically on vacation. Now let’s talk service. ROBERT. IS. THAT. GUY. He’s funny, attentive, remembers your order like a wizard, and somehow makes the experience feel like you’re dining at your favorite cousin’s house—but, like, if your cousin was a five-star Indonesian chef. Bottom line: if you’re not already at Simpang Asia, you’re missing out on the meal (and the vibe) of your week. Go. Order all the chicken. Thank me later.

This place gets super busy on weekends, but it’s amazing. So glad to have been able to try it. Hopefully they’ll have more tables setup inside once LA reopens more. Not many choices for Indonesian food in LA, but it’s pretty authentic. Definitely loved the Nasi Goreng with beef and the coconut beef steak. They have a small parking lot, but you should be able to find street parking pretty easily if necessary. Can’t wait to go there again.

Service was great. The food was delicious. We ordered lumpia, and two of the traditional plates which are what the servers recommended. Everything was so tasty. You really have to get down and dirty and eat the chicken with your hands but it’s part of the whole experience. The fried chicken part of the Rames plate was absolutely delicious. Let's talk about my first time visiting Simpang Asia. My previous landlord used to go here all the time, but I was never able to make it with her family. Now I lived further away, but I decided to finally give it a try today. I'm angry at myself for waiting so long!! This place a pleasant decor with a donation based valet in the parking lot. The waitstaff was so beyond friendly!!! They were both Angels. The cherimoya smoothie was a fantastic recommendation! I also appreciate that they swapped the chicken for salmon on the entree that I ordered. I know that restaurants don't like substitutions, so I am extra appreciative when they accommodate. They offered me a water while I waited and gave me an accurate wait time for my entree. I will definitely be coming back to this location with many friends and multiple times!! The curry chicken with stir fried kale was beyond memorable!

I loved the food here! My favorites were the roti paratha (roti was soft, buttery, & flakey, with a rich flavorful curry) and the festival rice (lightly sweet coconut rice and noodles, airy egg noodles, a hard boiled egg, beef, and two really soft and melty kebabs). We also got the nasi bungkus, though I felt its taste was more neutral.

Indonesian foods have been modified for American taste, the cendol could do improvement … not feels similar with the original from Indonesia.. other entrees will taste good for everyone..

Seven years ago, we came across one of his twin institutions in Jakarta for the first time. The cafeteria-style seats with hanging lights attracted us, but most of the traditional chicken and beef dishes got us back. The food is authentically seasoned and prepared like some of the street sellers you would discover in Indonesia. The service is always amicable and quick. Not to mention, this establishment allows you to unpack your own wine and bring beer at no extra cost. If you are searching for comforting food with a twist, then Simpang Asia is your go-to.

insane value!!! restaurants of this quality and authenticity should cost at least twice the price. the food is authentically delicious and presented like a 3-star Michelin. get the Paratha Roti for appetizer! the flaky-ness of the dough pairs super well with the peanut satay sauce. I would order one serving just for myself.

Small place but big flavors. Tiny parking lot is usually full but they have a dedicated pickup window. Love their food. Ordered up 5-6 different things for dinner with friends and we liked them all. They have been consistently good every time we’ve gone

Very cute place in a mini-mall. Easy to get a table for an afternoon lunch. We had the roti paratha which was flaky, the meat filled fried balls and the veggie tasting plate- all yummy! The young coconut water is actually in a coconut they cut open.

I’ve been to Malaysia and the cuisine was similar! This food was excellent! And affordable! Brought back amazing memories of my time in Malaysia and eating all the Malay and Indonesian food!

Sooo goodd! Great food, great service (food got to us almost immediately!), great portions, great atmosphere. The vibe is good for a casual meal but also nice enough for a date. I only had two tiny nitpicks that I basically forgot about as soon as I started eating (1. The down facing pendant lights were a little piercing to my eyes. 2. The bathroom floor was wet and slippery.) We got mie tek tek, a chicken dish with curry (forgot the name), and roti paratha - and every single dish was delicious. Every plate was scraped clean and both of us were very contentedly full by the end.

We wanted to try Indonesian food for the first time ever, and glad that i found this place through google search. Food is yummy plus the meat is halal ! We had paratha , fried chicken , fried rice , a noodle soup , papaya salad , chicken satay and a desert which was incredibly light fluffy and scrumptious . Garson was friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is nice, beautiful leaves and decor makes you feel calm . Price range for the food we had was reasonable. As soon as we ate there, i dmd my sis to tell her to come and eat at this restaurant 😁 Please try it, you will like the experience 💜

Top-notch service, unbelievably fresh food, and flawless quality every time. Everything on the menu is amazing, prices are great, and I always leave feeling so good. This is my go to spot for friends visiting from out of town. Simpang Asia never misses. A must visit in LA! PS. Honestly, everything in the menu is a hit!

Simpanh Asia is such a gem for Indonesian food lovers! We ordered pempek, nasi padang, tempe tahu, martabak telor, and lontong cap gomeh, and honestly, all of them were sooo good. The pempek and cap gomeh really stood out—they tasted just like home, so authentic and unchanged. It was such a comforting experience. The only downside was the tempe, which was a bit too delicate and broke apart easily, but other than that, everything was amazing. Definitely a place we’d come back to for a taste of home!

Everyone says the roti is FIRE and I can confirm. It reminds me of Taiwanese green onion pancakes? It was super crispy and a little salty and buttery and it was just delightful. The beef rendang in the nasi bungkus was super tender and the chicken wasn’t too dry. I liked how that dish had a little bit of everything to sample. The coconut flavors also blended really well with the spices. I got the es cendol as my drink, which was pretty good but a little too sweet for my taste. I probably should’ve asked to see if it was possible to get it with less sugar. The texture of the pandan jelly was so fun though, sort of like crystal boba but strips. Service was so good! Our server was very sweet and checked in on us multiple times. My friend LOVED the nasi goreng and absolutely devoured it. I’d love to come back to try more dishes on the menu!

Ordered the Martabak Telor, Chicken Nasi Goreng, Mie Tek Tek, and Es Cendol. The Martabak Telor is a great starter dish, tightly packed and holds its shape when you pick up each piece. The flat bread is like a crepe wrapping the ground beef, eggs, green onion, onion, and pickled cucumber. It's not too dry and the sweet chili sauce helps with adding a slight kick. You can taste each of the ingredients in each piece, solid choice. The Chicken Nasi Goreng was a great default choice if you're looking for a classic southeast Asia dish. The rice here is very plump and absorbs the fat and oil of the dish really well, the chicken were all evenly sized and the egg bits all had a nice golden brown to them. Garnished with some pea sprouts, green onion and large cracker, this was a filling option for one or to share. The Mie Tek Tek is great too if you're craving a classic dish but with noodles. This is a vintage Indonesian street noodle style using egg noodles, chicken breast, eggs, cabbage and Chinese greens. The chicken pieces were also tasty evenly sized and the larger egg pieces retained their golden brown finish here too. There are some Chinese greens and cabbage in here though it's still light on greens. Like the rice, the noodles here also absorbed a lot of the delicious fats and oils that make a fried dish taste so delicious. The portion is here is better for one or to be shared family style. The Es Cendol is a very fun hawker ice drink made of coconut milk, palm sugar and pandan jelly. It's a visually amusing drink with squiggly noodles of pandan jelly on top of the drink. The drink itself is quite smooth and tastes refreshing on a hot summer evening, not too sweet. Location is in a very busy corner plaza that runs out of parking really quickly. Consider street parking in the surrounding area, note that many streets have parking meters and time limits. The location atmosphere is great and busy, there is patio/tent seating outside or you can dine in too. On a warm summer evening, the outdoor patio/tent is a great option. Service can be fast and a little slow but no one felt rushed to leave. Staff are really nice and courteous with delivering meals and offering menu advice.

The right place to go when you're craving for a delicious South East Asian/SEA food. If you're a Muslim, discuss with the restaurant's crew which food is Muslim's friendly because most of the menu are not halal. During my recent trip, i had fried rice and tapau (take out) shrimp's char kway teow, and the size of each dish is for two South East Asians (yup, our stomach is smaller than the Americans). Prayer room for Muslims is also available.

Simpang Asia is my favorite Indonesian café in Los Angeles. Food is delicious and authentic, it’s comfort food. The best is to come with a group and share food family style! Every time I come here, it’s always a feast and would order about everything on the menu. Definitely order the traditional dishes, they’re served on banana leaves and comes with a variety of the popular Indonesian food, you will get a taste of everything! If you love bold distinctive flavors, you will love Indonesian food. Simpang doesn’t serve alcohol, but there is a bar next door. Simpang will allow you to order drinks from the bar and take it to your table while eating there. You can even keep your bar tab open and ask the bartender to bring the drinks to you while you eat.

Came here during lunchtime which was also happy hour(mon-fri, 12pm to 6pm). Serves halal food. The happy hour menu was full of fantastic deals. I got the tumeric chicken with rice and chicken fried rice. As a malaysian, the taste of the food really hits home. I was crying while eating the food😢😋. Would come here again!

The most authentic South East Asian Indonesian restaurant in SoCal. Hours long marinaded meats and cooking techniques bring flavors of the Indonesian region to LA and a big way. From the hard to find ingredients and flavors, each dish and bite continues to taste better and better. The weekends are busy but if you arrive before the rush, you’ll find table with ease. Sundays also offer the local farmers market directly across the street. Parking is tight at the rushes but street parking plentiful.

First time going out to eat Indonesian food and this place deserves all the hype. Service was great & quick. Food was excellent - had the risoles, martabak telor, pempek, rendang, and mie ayam. Would’ve ordered the whole menu if I could!

I was pleasantly surprised by how good and tasty the food is, and their presentation is a bonus. The staff is friendly. Parking could be a problem, but we got a spot right in front of the restaurant without having to wait. Food: Chicken Sate - So much flavor, the peanut sauce is probably the best in my experience Paratha - This one was a surprise. Super flaky, fresh and the sauce that comes with it complements it well. Nasi Goreng Jagger Fried Rice - They say its extremely spicy, for us it was absolutely perfect. But for most of you out there, this could be too much. One of the best, very well balanced with the omelette on top.

One of the Best Meals I’ve Had in LA – An Absolute Gem! This was hands down one of my favorite meals during my LA trips! I walked in with zero expectations, just a craving for Nasi Goreng, and left completely blown away. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by the kindest, most welcoming staff. The place was packed, which is always a great sign, and we immediately understood why once the food started arriving. We were pleasantly shocked by how reasonably priced everything was-especially for LA. We ordered the Nasi Goreng, Mie Tek Tek, beef Rendang, and tea. Let me just say-every single dish was an absolute banger. Each one was bursting with flavor in its own unique way. The rendang was melt-in-your-mouth tender and rich with complex, comforting spices. The nasi goreng and mie tek tek had that perfect hint of smokiness and depth, with beautifully balanced seasonings that kept us reaching for more. Even the tea was immaculate-thoughtfully prepared and the perfect accompaniment to the meal. When a staff member came over to ask how the food was, I meant it with my whole heart when I said, “This is absolutely delicious.” Everyone at our table wholeheartedly agreed. I’m honestly still dreaming about this place. The food, the beautiful decor, and the genuinely sweet and attentive staff-everything was perfect. They were constantly smiling, accommodating, and made us feel truly welcome. Big, big recommend! I’ll definitely be back on my future LA visits, and I hope they continue to keep up this incredible quality. What a gem!

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! Maya and her team at Simpang were able to accommodate a huge group dinner for our friends. Despite continuing to add on extra people they were super flexible, offered a wonderful set menu with accommodations for folks with dietary restrictions and allergies, and the food was INCREDIBLE and huge portions. I was worried about taking up too much room at the restaurant, but the staff made it look and feel like a breeze. This is one of my favorite restaurants in LA and I will keep coming back. :) thanks for having us!

No wait, as I dined as soon as they opened on a Monday afternoon. I ordered the traditional dish, Rames. The entire dish had a variety of options to enjoy. The chicken was deliciously flavorful and I enjoyed the taste of the string beans. And it was served hot which is very important to me. The waitress was polite and she provided good suggestions on popular dishes. The dining area is clean and stylish with a calming vibe. I will definitely return with friends!

The restaurant was tucked at the corner of lot with other restaurant with very tight parking space. Parking was a nightmare even on Thursday night around 7pm. We had to circle the whole block 3 times to find a spot. Once we were in, the staffs were very friendly and seated us immediately. - Nasi rames: tasty! The fried chicken was delicious (the skin was crispy and the meat was tender, succulent & flavorful - the spice seeped into the meat). The rendang was super tender & the spice was bold. The noodle was super flavorful - Mantep padang: good. The chicken curry was very tender & the gravy was creamy and delicious. - Char kway tiau: very good! The sauce was bold and we could taste the char aroma. It was our favorite - Es cendol: the cendol pieces were chewy & the santan had the perfect sweetness. However, I wish that they didn't put too much ice.

As soon as we arrived, we had a hard time finding parking but luckily there was 1 spot left. At first we got seated by the door, but it felt cold so we asked to be seated elsewhere. They also have outdoor seating, which must be nice during hotter weather. We ordered siomay bandung, nasi bungkus, and kwetiau goreng. I was very happy with all of them! All of them, took me back to my childhood memory. Although it is on the pricier side, it was absolutely worth it. Loved how they present the nasi bungkus literally wrapped in the banana leaf and the paper wrap, so authentic! Wish there were more veggies in the nasi bungkus, it was so good! The siomay bandung was also on point, so did the kwetiau goreng. Everything was delicious, I wish I had second stomach. Service was friendly, atmosphere was relaxing. Thank you and hats off to the chef. I will come back next time!

Visited Simpang Venice a week ago, and throughly enjoyed it. Visited Simpang Asia today since it was open during lunch time. Let me say it did not disappoint. Coming from Singapore, I’ve high expectations of Asian food. They definitely exceeded it and more. The Thai Iced Tea was perfectly flavored tho a little too sweet for my tastes. The Bihun Goreng is kinda similar to our Singapore Style Mee Hoon (星洲米粉), but was done way better with the flavour and texture. Nasi Bangkus, with the rendang, achar, and curry chicken were also perfection - just how they should be. Nothing more. Nothing less. We also got the shrimp chips which were very delicious and tasted like good quality chips that remind me of Indo. Very friendly and kind staff from Indo! Met her at the previous branch and then again at this branch!

Very very flavorful food at Simpang. I was already impressed by their Venice location and now impressed with this one as well. Loved the Haianese chicken rice, calamari and beef stuffed rotis. I ordered the Nasi Goreng Jaggar even though I was warned of the heat. It was really REALLY spicy. So much so that I, even being a heat lover, could only finish like 40-50% before giving up because it was so hot. 😅

Amazing dishes, just wish they were a bit bigger. I had the sea bass and my husband had the gado gado. They were incredible, but we felt we needed a bit more food so we ordered another dish, the sweet potato curry. Also excellent! Interior is beautiful and the staff are friendly. I would come again and order 2 sea bass for myself.

It is a wonderful place to enjoy aythentic Indonesia flavors. The food was rich, aromatic, and full of authentic taste, with spices that were well balanced and comforting. Simpang Asia - I was impressed! Period. Mojito $13 - soju, fresh mint leaves, line juice, and soda water - I loved it! It was sweet but fresh and the soju paired perfectly with the other ingredients. Chicken Sate (4) $8.50 - Grilled chicken skewers served with peanut sauce - very good. The meat used in the skewers is dark meat. The #8 Nasi Bungkus $22.95 - Experience tradition inside a wrap. Chicken curry, beef rendang, sambal egg, vegetables curry and rice wrapped in banana leaves - Note: I removed the sambal egg. - I was skeptical because this dish has a lot going on inside those banana leaves, but, B-A-B-Y, it works. The chicken is not as flavorful as i would like, but, the curry sauce gave the chicken life. The vegetables were delicious and so was the beef. Mie Tek Tek $15.95 - Vintage Indonesian street noodles. Egg noodles, chicken breast, eggs, cabbage, and chinese green. Also very good. All three dishes and my Mojito were slamming. Pros 1. Customer service was great! 2. Issa vibe. It really is. Quaint. Quiet. Low key but full of zing with the soft melody music in the backdrop and beautiful plants that surround you. A beautiful mural on the wall. 3. Food is epically delicious! Loads of flavor. 4. The food at this restaurant is delicious. We always order Roti Paratha, Mie Tek Tek, Char Kway Teow. The food as BD service is great.

A pleasant Thai experience with authentic items and flavors but it falls short in some areas. Parking is a very tiny and busy lot so during busy times you'll have a better chance just going to the streets nearby. The outside area can get a little be chaotic and jank as well. My husband loved what he got, but I personally wasn’t a fan of the noodles. Would we come back? Definitely for the rice dish he had gotten. Overall staff was super sweet, and food came in on time. LOVED the Thai tea, totally recommend. Also the roti paratha was really good too! They serve hallal meat by the way, which is a HUGE plus and much appreciated. Side note: would recommend that the yellow fabric chairs be cleaned. I noticed how dirty they were and in desperate need for a wipe down. Other than that good experience here.

We had the roti, ayam penyet, coconut rice and chicken sate. Everything was very flavorful and delicious. The roti was buttery and flaky. The coconut rice was so tasty by itself. I really liked the sautéed eggplant but believe the spicy description. We will try the vegetarian items next time. There is a free parking lot but it is small.

It was our first time trying Simpang Asia on this trip to LA. We started off with their highly recommended Roti Paratha, a flaky bread with a curry dip, for our appetizer. Matched it with their Es Cendol, a pandan jelly and coconut milk iced drink. For vegetables, we had Cah Kangkung, which was soooo good. We capped it off with Chicken Satay which was anothe excellent choice.

Indonesian food! A must try if you never have had it before. It was my first time and really enjoyed it. The flavors are savory with a good heat and a play with tropical sweetness. Presentation here was fanciful yet laid back. Service was busy so it can take a bit of time, but they do their best and keep it friendly. For the dishes, we got the Festival Rice (Nasi Kuning) and the Seafood Curry Noodles (Laksa). The Festival Rice had an interesting combo of proteins including a sambal egg, chicken sate, coconut beef, some tempeh and nuts along with a cone of turmeric rice and some noodles. It was a playful dish that had a variety of flavors and textures. The Laksa was a mild curry that is similar to a Thai-style in terms of creaminess with squid and shrimp along with yellow noodles. It's not heavily creamy and more broth like that made it distinct. Overall, pretty interesting take on curry and I enjoyed it. All in all, glad that I was able to try out some Indonesian cuisine! Pretty good stuff that is unique and can't wait to try more!

It's been a while since I visited this restaurant again. The renovation was great, but I miss the old no frills atmosphere of this place. Food is still delicious! You can't go wrong with any dish from the menu. Though the chicken satay is smaller portion compared before. I guess it is inflation 🤣

The food was fine. The grilled fish was so good!! $15 for a huge fish. Yes!!! Since I am a home cook, I’m being picky with the food. I think they can cook the food a little more so that they can taste more flavorful. I think some flavors sit on top and don’t get in fully. Still, I find the food comforting. The price was great. Fresh ingredients and good flavors. $75-80 for 5 dishes shared by 4 people. Yessss.

The food here is super authentic, it have the flavors of Southeast Asia. The service is quick and friendly. I love going out with friends so the only thing is this place is small and not quite good for large parties as it’ll be a tight fit. There’s a grocery store next door that have good ice cream. I’ve been here twice, both times traveling for work and leaving from LAX. It’s close and convenient, just a Uber away, like 17$ from the LAX. One thing that’s great is the noodles, if any of you are familiar with Indomee, the ramen like noodles that are meant to be eat dry, well this place have the gourmet version of it, just ask for it dry, otherwise it’ll be a soup noodle.

This place has a very nice setup and great food and drink presentation. The service was great, they were very friendly and quick to bring out the food. I've eaten a lot of Indonesian food, but the flavor here wasn't enough. Of course nothing compares to eating the food in Indonesia, but the tastes at other Indonesian restaurants I eat here in the US are much tastier. The lumpia and the Kwetiau Vegan had the most flavors, they were really good. We weren't the biggest fans of the Nasi Goreng with tofu, we needed to add sweet soy sauce to make it more flavorful. The Gado Gado had good flavor, but the peanut sauce was not warm like at other places. The Es Cendol liquid part was good, but the sandan didn't have much flavor. This is a good spot to try different items you like.

Good food and everything tasted very nutty! Tried Indonesian food for the first time and really enjoyed it. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait for indoor sitting however the outside sitting area was full. Service was fast and smooth. Loved the variety they put in each plate! Definitely recommend if you enjoy lots of flavours and spices! 👍👍

Food was mostly really good and presentation was solid. The migoreng was amazing. My only issue is they don't remove the stems from their green beans. It's a big pet peeve of mine so have to mention it. But I would still recommend this place.

So, I’ve been on the hunt for Indonesian food as good as what I had while visiting Bali. I fell in LOVE with beef rendang and I’ve yet to find a place that could match the flavor. So, I was excited to see that it was on the menu here. First, all of the food that came out looked amazing and tasted great! Our server was busy, but still attentive. Each dish had a great portion size and full of flavor. However, when it came to the beef rendang , it was tasty, but did not meet my expectations. I would re-order everything that we had, except the beef rendang. :( the portion size was great. However, the flavor was not as intense as I was hoping. It was fairly mild and underwhelming. This won’t be my go to spot for beef rendang. My search will continue. However, I will return to explore more of the menu!

Came bere for breakfast. The prata is really close to what I could get back home, overall recommend. The Soto soup had all the rice inside the soup was expecting it to be served on the side. I guess I should have checked with them before ordereder. 🤣

Everything was great from start to finish. The food was fresh and flavorful, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the overall experience was really enjoyable. I left feeling satisfied and happy with my visit. Would definitely come back again.

Hangry Trails

The food and portions are good, but it's a bit pricey compared to other Indonesian food places. We ordered the Nasi Bungkus and Nasi Lemak. They gave us tons of rice and sauce that came with the chicken. Both the chicken in Nasi Bungkus and Nasi Lemak have the same curry sauce. They use chayote for the vegetable curry that comes with the Nasi Bungkus, which is very delicious. Also love the beef rendang that came with it, the beef was very tender. They updated the Nasi Kuning and it does not have rendang and sambal eggs now so it’s lacking the flavor. Halal Indonesian restaurant near downtown LA. We came for lunch on Friday and it was busy but service was great and good is acceptable to western taste. It’s a little sweet and spicy but overall great and I would recommend the Nasi kuning and Nasi bungkus.

Each dining experience at Simpang is a delight. Mie Tek Tek and Cah Kangkung are some of my absolute favorites. The food is consistently delicious and service is exceptional. Reasons why I'll keep bringing friends and family whenever they visit from out-of-state.

As someone who’s genuinely curious about new flavors and who has enjoyed excellent Indonesian cuisine in the past, I visited Simpang Asia during a quieter weekday service. The space appears newly renovated, with a sleek, trendy design that leans more toward a Mexican/Tulum-inspired, Instagram-friendly aesthetic. While visually appealing, it feels somewhat disconnected from the cultural identity of Indonesian cuisine. Personally, I gravitate toward more authenticity — décor, music, and ambiance that reflect the geography and spirit of the country rather than a globally generic vibe. Service, however, was a strong point. The staff were warm, friendly, and efficient throughout the meal. One operational note: the restaurant was noticeably cold — many guests kept their jackets on — and a more comfortable temperature would greatly improve the dining experience. Food-wise, the meal had clear highlights. The spring rolls were excellent — fresh, crisp, and well-executed. The Nasi Goreng Jagger (Indonesian fried rice) was flavorful and satisfying, delivering the bold, comforting notes you hope for in the dish. Unfortunately, the Hainanese chicken rice fell short: the aroma didn’t feel as fresh, and the portion size was quite small relative to expectations. Overall, Simpang Asia is a solid spot worth trying, especially for those looking to explore Indonesian flavors in Los Angeles. With some thoughtful tweaks — particularly to the music selection, ambiance alignment, and temperature control — it has the potential to become an even stronger dining destination. I enjoyed my visit and would recommend giving it a try.

It’s been a few years since we had dinner here. The food’s quality remained about the same as before, decent, but not awesome. The roti paratha could be crispier and the curry sauce was on the sweet side. The Nasi Bungkus was decent, but a bit confusing that was basically two (may be more) dishes combined into one banana leaf bento. The Gado Gado was interesting as well with roasted potato in a salad. Please be aware of the sauce, which was made from peanuts, so those with peanut allergies should avoid this salad. Finally, the mie ayam was okay. The service was very efficient and friendly. Parking spaces were scarce, but we managed to find the last space when we arrived on a week night.

As somebody who loves authentic Asian food, I am never coming back. I was so excited to try this Indonesian restaurant, but the flavors of every dish I tried left so much to be desired. We ordered one appetizer and four main dishes including the lonpong, grilled fish, oxtail soup, and laksa. The broths were watered-down yet overly salty, and the oxtail soup had no bone flavor whatsoever. (It also cost $24 for four small pieces of oxtail bone in a small bowl). The dishes were all made with cheap shortcuts such as the use of frozen mixed veggies in the soup instead of fresh vegetables. The curries and soups lacked any depth of flavor, and I highly doubt they used any slow-cooking methods that would bring out the true flavors of the food. The low quality ingredients resulted in bland yet salty flavors that were attempted to be covered up by fatty and/or sugary additions to make it more tasty. It tasted like Indonesian Panda Express. The only redeeming factors were: 1) the texture of the egg noodle, which was chewy and delicious, and 2) the the peanut sauce on the chicken sate appetizer, which was a little too sweet but still tasty. However, the dishes were beautifully presented and the service was alright, so if you come here for a fun time and pleasant atmosphere this place could be ok.

Very disappointed. All the menu items are curry, not much variation. The only thing good was satay chicken— hard to mess up. The beef was fatty, noodles were like cafeteria food.
