What a gem, especially with such historic and cultural meaning for the LGBTQ+ community! The food, wine list and service were all excellent. The food was better than I expected, especially their salad and steak. The beet salad was amazing and the steak was cooked to perfect medium rare. We enjoyed the chicken liver toast, which pared beautifully with the gamay we got. Moreover enjoyed the cavatelli pasta dish we got with calabrian peppers (don't see if on the online menu now). Finally, we finished with the basque cheesecake, which is my favorite cheesecake. Could be a bit more caramelized but enjoyed every bite. I was told they had an interesting wine menu and they did. They got me at Gamay but had another Spanish Red, Trepat, I have never had that was somewhere between a pinor noir and a sancerre rouge chilled. Also had the Cinsault, I didn't get to try yet. We had a great server who fit the vibe. Welcoming and friendly and kept with the temp of our meal. Also the atmosphere is like a big clean pub and great people watching, especially the week before Halloween when all the costume parties start from DTLA to WeHo!
My first time here and I absolutely loved the food, the steak was probably the best I've had in a while. The Mac and cheese was very tasty..not to mention the sweet potatoes, all very tasty Great service. Don't forget the bread pudding!
Nice place to spend the afternoon :) Happy hour cheese plate 🧀is good for two persons I had the bubbles 🫧 bottle Very nice!
Kind and welcoming service Fresh food Drink Flavors were amazing Chill dark atmosphere Very loud and booming with conversations
A good friend of mine suggested we meet here for a long overdue get-together. My first time here was pleasantly surprised that they allowed dogs inside the establishment. My friend had his dog and there were other patrons with their pet dogs as well. This is a really interesting and not to mention historical landmark. The Black Cat is known to be the site of the first documented LGBT civil rights demonstration in the nation held on February 11, 1967 which was declared by the city of Los Angeles in 2008 by the cultural heritage commission. We were greeted by a friendly and extremely accommodating host to our table (She gave water to dogs outside due to the hot weather) good job! Started off with a round of drinks which is highly recommended. Our server 'Mikey' was also friendly and extremely accommodating. They were playing some really cool 'Indie' music that was quite the treat as well. Our food was amazing and delicious. As shown in the photos. The restaurant is clean, organized, and their service was above and beyond. Me and my party were very happy to have come here. My wife & I were the only ones who paid our visit for the very first time. So like I do when the credit is due...The Black Cat gets 5 ⭐'s up, down, & all around. Thank you entire staff at the Black Cat, we will definitely be back for more!
This Iconic location was one of the first spots in LA where protest erupted in the LGBTQ community and allies who fought for human dignity and freedom of all people. And I am pleased to see that the current owners are still supported allies of our community. Since covid , the stonewall democratic club is not hosted a general membership meeting in person. Last night we came back to where it began and we are here now once again to put up the fight. They have a wonderful meeting room and the food is excellent. We had pizza. And wings which sounds very casual but this was really a step up. Alexander was wonderful to work with to get set up for our event which featured Councilmembers Heather Hutt and Nithya Raman true defenders of the peoples rights. We were also pleased to have Senator Caroline Menjivar with us to fill us in on how our State Senators are fight for us to keep us safe while the people in DC try to destroy us. During these times it's important to uplift the people who want freedom and democracy for everyone without exception. Great restaurant great community leaders and business owners. You can feel very proud supporting the Black Cat!
The Black Cat is another one of my locals. The service is fast and good. The food is delicious! The muscles are my favorite thing on the menu the parfait is decadent and the snacks are addictive. Lennon was our server at the bar he was fun, knowledgeable, friendly and talented at making cocktails. The interior design is stunning and cool at the same time. The atmosphere is upscale but casual. This space was one of the original gay bars in Los Angeles/Silver Lake and was at the forefront of gay activism. Open to everyone. Great for a date night or fun out with friends! A must try on the east side.
Old school vibe and tucked into a busy corner of Silver Lake. Parking was a challenge but I found a spot out front after circling the block a few times. Staff was very accommodating. Didn't have a chance to eat or drink here, went for Trans Day of Visibility to hear the Trans Chorus of LA and a panel of speakers in the back room, which was packed. This place has a solid history in the LGBTQ movement and the owners are very supportive and inclusive. There was a wonderful photo exhibit that featured trans people from around the country, very emotional and bonding experience. Thanks to those who made it happen 🩷🤍🩵 and all who came.
This spot we chose for our incredible Saint Valentines Date & what a success! The host was kind and fun and accommodating upon our entrance. Our server Will was so very nice and helped us both choose what we needed to order. The cocktails are a bit on the baby sized but are strong and pack a punch! The amazing Will described a great wine from the Georgian region and it was impeccable. We suggest you order the steak frites and the french onion appetizer with a chocolate soufflé to finish. We will be back and enjoy soon thank you Will & Black Cat! We had the best time.
Great spot for a date, very classy inside and the service was good. Food menu is a bit interesting but there are some good choices on there. Silverlake staple! Always have to come back to this spot
The Black Cat is a great place for a casual meal alone or even a group dinner with friends. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating with their recommendations and overall service. Even the kitchen is mighty fast, I was amazed at how fast my groups meals were prepared. The Chicken Paillard and Steak Frites are classics that are well executed here. Even the Beef Cheek Ragu was divine. The Crème Brûlée was probably one of the best I’ve had outside of France. You can’t go wrong with a meal from The Black Cat, I definitely recommend coming here for dinner as the lounge vibe is great with buzzing conversation in every corner of the restaurant.
I adore this place. I love the decoration, the crew members are polite and friendly, and the location is fantastic. They have a decent list of wines and plenty of cocktail options. Never eaten anything from there but I saw different dishes and they look great. Small outdoor area!

4.5 I have been there 3 times and my experience has always been good. It has a pub like ambiance which is rare in the area and the service it’s always kind and fast. I distract 0.5 points cause they always have long wait times. Drinks are very good too.
My girlfriend and I just started to come here on a regular basis for the happy hour menu. We both love the burger and fries combo for just $10. And it’s great quality!
One of my favorite LA spots. It has an old Hollywood vibe: comfortable leather benches, dim lighting, good food (skirt steak), and delicious Bloody Mary.
Lovely, classic atmosphere. Deco historic. Historic LGBT site. Super friendly staff and attentive management. My boyfriend and I went on National Coming Out night, and they had a really lit party going on in their cordoned off outdoor space, and they brought the party inside with a DJ, still walkers, and other entertainment. The food was solid, and the drinks were great and affordable. They even had a sour on the menu, which is rare to find. And their crème brûlée was really well prepared. The vibes were great. Loved the classic, historic feel with young, vibrant and Silverlake-locals energy. We’ll be back!

Upscale bar with refined bar food. Excellent cocktail selection. Beer selection is a bit lacking as kegs on several beers were empty.

Cute place. Walked in. Sat at the bar. Ordered a drink and was asked if I wanted to open a tab. I said no I want to order food. I ordered fish and chips. Was again asked if I wanted to keep my tab open. I said no and was presented with a bill before my food came. What is this McDonald's? I was told that this place was a bar and thus you pay or keep a tab. No I'm sitting at the bar of a restaurant. So odd. Never been asked to pay before my food came anywhere in the world. Asked for water and didn't get it. Asked someone else and got a glass and a carafe of water. Not poured for me. Fish and Chips were fine but chips were more frites than chips. I guess it's fine if you live in the area and can walk there. No need to travel to go there.
The dishes are delicious and well-presented. The meat is cooked to the perfect doneness. The burger was priced higher than at some other burger joints, but if you appreciate a more special flavor, it’s worth it.
I took my friend Greg to eat lunch here this past Sunday. The server was awesome, as was the atmosphere. The hamburger was fantastic! The Cat Snack was ok for nine dollars. The fries that came with the burger were McDonalds level fries. The were obviously left under a heating lamp, they were dry and dark brown in spots. It was overall a good experience, but not a 83 dollar good experience.

The food and drinks were underwhelming. Start with the good… they did an amazing job renovating the place and honoring the history of the lgbt movement. There was no wait for a table and the staff were friendly. The bad… buffalo wings were cold and the street corn was alright. The drink was not good and I would have left, but friends didn’t feel like going elsewhere. I ordered the fish and chips for a safe bet and it was lack luster. The steak and frites were okay as well. I would avoid the food and probably order a beer if necessary.
