My aunt and I were looking for a delicious sushi restaurant for lunch, and came across Kuma. Isabella our waitress has a beautiful, loving energy that set the mood, and experience. The food was absolutely amazing. We got Roman and Sushi and they both were 10/10 We are grateful we found this location, definitely underrated. Thank you for the beautiful experience and accommodations!
Loved sitting outside in the sun on the patio....Ramen was great, also got the itchy dragon roll...so good
We were a large group!! Tried to make reservation online & by calling several times/no answers . Long story short….. your staff decided to let us stay when we arrived. Our experience was fantastic; sushi was exceptional. Service wonderful. The staff was busting their arse at 5:30 when we arrived….With in house & take out. And then there was us. They pulled it off brilliantly. Thank you!!! Our birthday celebration at Kuma was fabulous.
Always a favored spot of ours, the trip out to Osos is always worth it. Ramen is usually pretty tasty and the rolls are well prepared. Staffs always on top of things and very friendly, certainly worth the trip.
If you are visiting Central Coast, take a drive to Montaña de Oro State Park for one of the most beautiful place (off the beaten path) for a visit then on the way back stop to Kuma Sushi for lunch or dinner in Los Osos. We have always love their ramens but this time we ordered the yellow tail collars (not on the menu and you have to ask). First time for us and OMG - t's the best thing ever! Fish collars are a piece of fish that comes from along the clavicle, the muscle that we call the collarbone. The chef said he coated them in a light seasoning and fried them. They were super crunchy, moist with so much meat. We also had our special sushi rolls with the fish. Love this little Kuma restaurant and thank you chef!
My son and I likes this place, we are not from this atea but we would purposely drive 45mins (one way) just to enjoy the food here. We've been here numerous times, food is alway great, fresh and flavorful, service is inconsistent, I gave 5 stars based on our last visit, and majority of our visit I would say can be 4.5. It is a nice little place to enjoy food and company, special on their outside seating.
Kuma was a real fun experience! I had the Yakisoba which I wish we had a picture of but I guess I ate it too fast. Servers were really pleasant and the food came out quickly. The itchy dragon roll was recommended and it did not disappoint. Kids were obviously stoked about the tempura batter dessert cake! Great ambience and I would recommend for a nice family dinner/date night or just a nice meal with a friend.
Delicious and well crafted sushi and ramen. They were popping on a rainy Saturday, but we still cozied up to the sushi bar and enjoyed quick friendly service. The Garlic Chip roll rocked my palate with super fresh chunks of yellowtail and albacore topped with crispy golden slice of garlic!!! And masago. My partner finishes a sm bowl of tonkotsu ramen with shoyu egg. The Kamu blend of house tea comes complimentary and is smooth and satisfying on a cold day. We’ll be back!!!
Stopped by because we heard the ramen was pretty darn good, and it was. The jalapeño poppers are a must if you’re into spicy food, they were pretty great. The sushi was also very good, fresh. We will be repeat customers, for sure. Staff was friendly and helpful with the outdoor heating. Cozy, cute and the outside seating is great. 3/1/24 They have redone part of their outdoor seating to include fireplaces and more heaters, which I appreciate because we love sitting outside. We have been going here for the last several years, typically at least once a month, sometimes more, and we absolutely love it if you have not tried the spot, and you were in the area, stop by!
Best sushi I’ve had in probably 3 years. I can’t remember where it was better so it might have been further in the past. Well, you know you’re in California when you ask Julia at the ace hardware where the best restaurant is, and she recommends a sushi spot on a side street. I had the special, roll and a bowl. The crunchy eel and the beef ramen more than filled my tank. If you get the chance, this place is a bright spot to experience. The waitress and chef were super friendly and the outdoor patio was decorated artistically. It had enough quirkiness to be considered modern art. Los Osos is a great little town meaning the bears and Kuma is Japanese for bear. Very Californian indeed. Enjoy!
My family and I come as often as we are fiscally allowed. They have awesome ramen and sushi. Here are some of our favorites: Tonkotsu Ramen with Shoyu Egg , Nori, and Curry Butter- 15 + 4.50 for add-ons I always think of ordering something different, but this ramen is incredibly satisfying, no matter the weather or season. The broth is very rich and unctuous, the egg is soft boiled so you get the oozing yolk that thickens the broth and coats the noodles. The curry butter adds to the richness and adds a wonderful spice, almost turning the broth into a sauce. Huge flavor and satiation! Garlic Chip Roll 18 My wife’s favorite and a terrible idea for a first date. Obviously garlic forward, with a great crunch, but the sushi itself is very generous, with tons of tuna and salmon. The sauces on it are not overly sweet and their savoriness compliments the heat of the garlic and sweet/vinegary rice. Tuna Roll/Salmon Roll 12/9 Simple rolls! Generous dollop of extra fish on top, as well. Clean eating! Pork Belly Fried Rice 12 My brother-in-laws favorite. Teppanyaki fried rice with another beautiful, sunny side up egg on top. It’s got that liquid yolk that you know and love. Someone told me that people don’t like runny yolks? I’ll pray for them, for healing.
+ They have a decent sized parking lot, restaurant is in the back. + Adorable patio area with a ton of character. -- Tree socks, patio ornaments, carnival lighting, and very spacious + Very laid back, chill ambiance. Perfect for a date night! + Staff is young, hip, and friendly. Very attentive and welcoming. + I ordered the Sushi Tempura Combo and it was very generous. Came with cucumber salad (large portion), miso soup (or ramen sample), 6 pieces of sushi, and a large serving of tempura. + Tempura can feed 2-3 people sharing. I loved the fresh veggies and quality shrimp, but the batter was a real miss for me. It was soggy and limp -- horrible texture/no crisp. + Sushi is very fresh and authentic. They also had a very large roll selection. I ordered the avocado sushi and it was super good. Loved the rice to avocado ratio, and they were extremely generous with avocado! + Ramen was very light and good. The ramen noodles were a little disappointing. They remind me of Maruchan Cup Noodle quality. But overall, the broth was nice and light, and the ingredients were fresh and good quality. The egg was perfect. + Gyoza was good. We wish it was a little more crispy but the skin was nice and thin. Came with a good spicy ponzu sauce.
Severely underwhelming. Got the Ramen and the dynamite roll. The ramen was okay. But what bugged me is their bacon style pork belly. Rude. Also the dynamite roll sparked no joy, which is pretty devastating when you pay $19 for one sad roll—and if you’re going to put lettuce on my plate as a garnish, at least make sure it’s not spotted. Will give them 3 stars because spicy mayo is fire, fish quality was fresh, and they let me bring my dogs. The Bombay roll was good.
Kuma used to have high quality food. The last three times I’ve gone over the last year have been poor experience after poor experience. The sushi isn’t fresh. The avocado is old. They forget items in their bowls that are literally listed as included on the menu. Positive is the staff is friendly and one of the times a manager knew they messed up and told me and were super nice about it. That being said. Whoever owns this place has become complacent and it’s too overpriced for the lack of quality you’re getting. I’d recommend folks just go to the sushi place in MB instead.
Really really disgusting. Not a single redeeming factor. Insanely expensive for the most grotesque sushi I've ever endured. Order at counter and service is terrible. $19 for a teriyaki bowl that contains overcooked rice, slimy onions, bell pepper, and two pieces of broccoli, and absolutely no flavor. Also no sense of food safety standards; one employee was scooping rice into a bowl with his bare hand after touching various non food related items. Sushi chef was also wiping his hands on his dirty sweatshirt and grabbing items at the register before continuing to touch the food. He was pawing at a frozen block of fish with his bare hands. Fish was still frozen in rolls. Also just plating prepackaged gyoza. Spent $159 and left before the rest of our food came out it was so abysmal.
