Been around a long time and still as good as I remember.

A generational family favorite for decades because the food never disappoints. The older waitress is so efficient and made us feel even more at home. Everything just gets better every time!

Probably some of the best fried whole catfish I've ever had. Great atmosphere felt like I was at a fish camp down by the lake. Incredible price on beer. Had a pitcher of ultra for $8. Keep up the Incredible job!

River Smiths is my go to everytime I'm in Lubbock!!!! Nothing beats those 2 whole fried catfish platter! Great food and Great beer!

Went in for lunch today and it was FANTASTIC as usual! We’ve ate at River Smith’s for years now and truly enjoy it. The food is fresh, home cooked and always delicious. Obsessed with the tartar sauce and ranch! We were greeted by Avery who had the best personality. Super friendly, personable and gave great recommendations on a variety of items. It’s always great to see the owners, Paul and Chris as well! They literally treat you like family. Can’t speak highly enough of this local business. We will be back very soon!

Excellent jalapeño burger and peach iced tea. First time visit gets free onion rings. Filling and delicious. There was no wait and plenty of seating. It’s a walk up order and sit down place. I like the catfish aquarium.

If you want some excellent fried fish this is the place to eat. Hush puppies, sugar rolls ( not sure name correct) chicken strips (good size) fish nuggets ( good size) are all mouth watering delicious. Went on a Friday night with family of 4 got the 22-24 piece family meal deal paid around $40-44 dollars WORTH IT plenty for everyone and left overs. They also had live music that night. Food was okay but very reasonable price for seafood. Service is little slow but they don’t want tips so that’s okay. Just don’t go if you’re in a rush. Pic is double catfish platter. It’s too much for one person.

This place was awesome! Was wanting some fish for the first Friday of lent. Ordered a trio combo so you pick three proteins and it comes with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. Everything tasted amazing! Battered well, not fried in old oil, and all the staff was really amazing and nice when greeting you even though they were slammed. 10/10 would come back!

We LOVE Riversmith's! They have catered several events here at the Scottish Rite and have done an outstanding job! They are always on time, prepared, and the food is ALWAYS good! Chris is amazing and attentive and will make sure you are taken care of!

This restaurant was recommended by local residents and close to our motel. As the name of the restaurant says, they specialize in fish and chicken. I had a simple dark meat chicken dinner with fries and a biscuit with gravy. My wife ordered the white fish basket and they were served hot with some complimentary homemade onion rings. The meals were great that evening there was live music that we stayed a listened to. The music was basically a man with a guitar doing karaoke, but was very good.

Visited River Smith for the first time, and had a good experience. The service was amazing, the restaurant was clean and my order was as ordered (no issues). I ordered the chicken fried steak, and it was good. My husband ordered fish and he said it was great. My son said the burger was very good. This is definitely a place to stop and try when in the area.

Coming for New Mexico it is very hard to find a good home style fish and or Chicken. It’s always great to find a good restaurant that doesn’t kill the wallet! Reminds me of a small town Mom and Pop eatery but don't be fooled Place handles high volume and catering. The chicken fried steak was probably the best I've ever had and I hear their catfish is second to none. The ladies behind the counter were friendly, helpful, and make sure their experience there what's the best you can have and if not they wanted to fix it right then. Big and spacious dining area and there were different sections so it would probably be really great for large gathering or a private party.

I like the fact that you have to wait about 5 or 10 minutes to get your food. It comes out fresh every time. Not "fast food." There's nothing like fried catfish for some good old comfort food. Or if you want something a little more healthy, the blackened grilled catfish is excellent.

Awesome fish place with great food, good prices and a nice atmosphere. This was my first time here. I wanted some fish and Lubbock is pretty slim on options when it comes to fish. If you don't want LJS and don't want pay for over priced food at Red Lobster, you are pretty much out of luck. I did Google search for fried fish and it brought up Rivers Smiths. I decided to try it out and am glad I did. The staff friendly and they give free onion rings to first timers. I had the blackened shrimp and it was amazing. The free onion rings were the best I have ever had. They have a great choice e of teas, like Mango Passion Green Tea and Coconut. My first time here but it will not be my last.

Staff isn’t very helpful. Food was pretty good. Portions could be bigger for the price point. The puffs are really good with honey.

I had the fried Catfish and fries which was great. I gave it 4 stars because of the appearance of the place, but I'm not judging because I can tell that they were open for years. One of my hush puppies were not fried properly, the dough inside was raw but the waiter gave me 2 extra to make up for it. I will definitely eat here again I was satisfied.

The blackened shrimp was good. My grams said the catfish was good and she don't really care for seafood. I really recommend going on Thursdays for the Mariachi music that's played live.

We are from out of town, just driving by and rest for lunch. It's a family friendly restaurant, big potion of food. The whit fish meal I ordered was okay, fish was a little dry, green beans were watery. But overall still a good place, staff were friendly.

This place was a spot I frequented as a child. I loved this place back then. A lot has changed for me since then. But it was nice to be in my home town and hit up this place that gave me such fond memories of my childhood. If you eat clean, make sure to visit on a cheat day. Pretty much everything on the menu is fried and heavy.

The party room we rented was not what we expected. The 2 tvs were not on, the room looked dusty and not clean. We had to pickup trash and deflated balloons from a previous gathering. We left the room clean. No trash.

My wife and I split a combo plate of fried catfish fried shrimp and fried oyster. Fish and shrimp are very good. The oysters were horrible. Normally, I loved fried oysters. I had to spit these out. Everything else was great. I loved the fish and shrimp. The tarter sauce was very good with dill pickle. The cocktail sauce was great with lots of horseradish. Coleslaw was very sweet reminded me of KFC. I will be back, just no oysters for me.lol

The food here is wonderful - every menu item is terrific! The one & only reason for the 3 Stars is because of the location. It's in the "seedier" side of town. We were approached on the way to & from the restaurant by no less than FOUR TIMES by obvious drug users begging for money. I would NEVER go here without my 6' 290 lb husband!!! Once u get inside, the place is really great - kind of family diner + bar + sports club. I noticed aot of working fellas coming in to eat on their lunch break & it makes sense - it really is a good deal for your money. (Especially these days when everything costs an arm & a leg!!)

This long time fried food stop is a little long in the tooth. The only thing really good about it was the cream gravy with he chicken-fried. You can do better.

We went 15min before closing, which may be the reason why we got small pieces of a fish basket.

Me and the family had dinner at this place this evening and before we got home we were all sick to our stomachs. My wife got the runs and went to the restroom 5 times before we got home. I went twice before I got home and my son has went twice so far. We haven't been to River Smith's in awhile and I don't see us ever going back.

Visited the restaurant around noon on a Friday. They were only moderately busy. Placed an order at the counter and received my drink cup and a table marker. Incidentally, all their soda products are Pepsi brand (yuk), no Coke. The booths are very much in need of replacement and uncomfortable; sat at a table. I had a Catfish Deluxe sandwich combo with a medium soda, 6 à la cart gizzards, and a small country gravy. $20 with tax. Less than ten minutes later my food was delivered to the table. Everything was adequately hot and looked OK. The catfish had a very fishy, slightly off-putting taste. The gizzards were over cooked and extremely tough and of small size. The gravy was pretty tasty. The fries were quite good but small in number. Quite a few years ago, way before the pandemic, this was a pretty good restaurant. I must say I was very disappointed with this latest dining experience and probably will not be back.

The fish was not hot. It was 2pm on a Saturday and they weren’t too busy. I was anticipating an excellent plate of fried fish and got less than mediocre. I’ve been eating there for more than 20 years, so I’ll give them another try. Anyone can have an off day. But if it happens again, I’ll have to find a new place for my fried fish fix.

5/12/2025 we were heading out of town back home and decided to have lunch before we left we always used to go to Rivers Smith's when I lived in town and loved it , well needless to say our food was not that great we found a hair in the salad and took it back they replaced it of course but the staff all came out to see if we were going to eat it as if they did something to it (weird) so of course it was suspicious so my niece didn't not touch it my daughter also found a hair in her fries and told the waitress, and she apologized and offered a desert for the inconvenience it was about 15 total of us there to eat we all had drinks along with our food we didn't make a fuss about the hair nor the food but did suggest that the 3 men cooks that all have beards maybe cover them up I am sure that is where it was from as the hairs were short and black when were we leaving I asked if I could have a water to go the cashier guy advised he didn't think so then one of the bearded Genteman came up to the cashier box and said I would need to pay for the cup? keep in mind we well spent over $150.00 to eat and had to endure the disgusting food that had hair in it and he had the audacity to ask me to pay for a cup for water! what has this world come to businesses and as well as staff wise no more customer service? will not recommend anyone to that establishment ever again

I am not a picky person but we ordered some catfish and they were less than room temperature. The other chicken had one in so we had to wait a little longer and was warm it’s suppose to be freshly cooked. Sticky salt shakers and to honey container was so sticky. I used to visit this place often but tonight was my last. I ordered online and my order quantity was not worth the price and was missing item. Management was rude, along with lady who answered phone. Food quality and quantity was poor! If your looking for a place with good catfish, this is NOT the place to go. I will never refer anyone to this restaurant establishment ever again.

There weren't any descriptions on the menu, so I didn't realize that everything was heavily breaded and fried. The shrimp and oysters tasted like rubber, the hushpuppy was almost burnt, the roll was fried and nasty and fries just tasted like oil. The chicken fried steak was hard to chew. The meals were bland- tasted like flour and oil. I left most of my meal behind. My husband likes that kind of stuff and even he couldn't force himself to finish.

Food was good and bad some plates were really good others were drowned in oil. Sever was so rude, I was paying and I guess he decided he would change me for something I don't even know what it is for while I was paying. Then very loudly saying that my card didn't pay for the whole amount. I was like no my card works he changed me 3.02 after I paid the 70 plus. After looking at my receipt I saw this additional charge which means my card works you charge me for something I didn't order. I didn't want to say anything I left it alone I didn't want to be yelled at or embarrassed again. If we are paying what we did you should at least have some kind of customer service skills this man should never be allowed to talk to customers. Because of this we will not be back. One more thing if a customer is front of you, your attention should be with them not coworkers. I'm paying I expect your full attention that's why you messed up to begin with. Five plates five drinks what is this prime hydration drink you charge me for why would we need an additional drink there was only five of us.

Walked in asked if it was a sit anywhere place. The young waitress said yes. So I sat down at a table of 4 since it was just me to the right of the entrance table. There was a few people eating already. I sat down waiting for staff to come and ask me what I want to drink and with a menu since I was in the mood to eat some catfish. Never been there before not from Lubbock myself. Waited 12-14 minutes for someone to come ask me or even check on the people already there and eating. Needless to say no staff ever showed up. I got up and walked out. As far as the service I can give it a 1. As far as the food I cannot rate it because I didn't get to taste it. The atmosphere was ok. 12-15 minutes in a place that ain't busy at all is a good time to wait before I get up and leave. I truly do doubt I will ever go back and try them out for the first time, but good luck to them with that kind of staff.

dark dry chicken. Fake mashed potatoes. They told me this was their only complaint on fake mashed potatoes. Didn't know pickles come with fried chicken with pickle juice on top of the boxes. Quality control none. Better chicken at Walmart and they have bad fried chicken. Manager said first complaint on mashed potatoes. I remember coming here 25 years ago and it was a wonderful experience with a great atmosphere. Needless to say, I called my father and told him how disappointed I was with this establishment. Upon arrival, we were greeted nicely by a lady who stated someone would be with us shortly. The cashier/lady taking our order at register however, RUDE! My wife asked if they had catfish nuggets to where she replied, it is up there. After reading the entire menu, we asked again to where she rolled her eyes and said well it is there, the blah blah blah and the blah blah blah are the nuggets so my wife mentioned, well, it doesn't say that, it just literally says catfish, how am I to know it is nuggets. Well anyways, we placed our order, catfish nuggets, mozzarella sticks and their famous chicken friend steak. I, was happy to try the steak out only to realize, it was disgusting. I only ate the mash but forcefully because it was literally clumps of what seemed like boxed mashed potatoes, fries were cold and the CFS.... heavy on the grease, I literally mean heavy that I threw it up. The catfish nuggets were ok I guess but my CFS was literally an appalling dish. I cannot recommend my family to even try coming here nor can I suggest to my father to return here in hopes that he has a decent meal. Beyond disappointed at the service and food!

Very disappointed and wish there was an option for 0 stars as this was on overpriced and very unsatisfying meal. The portion of coleslaw i got was very small as you can see. I purchased a chicken fried steak and it was not up to standards. I know there chicken fried steaks and this wasn't it. Horrible look at your chicken fried steak before you eat it. Not like the used to be. Guess upping the prices out weights the food. 😔

I decided to give the drive through another chance. Got the same server (male, longer hair) that I had when I gave up on River Smith's months ago. And the same experience. Rude. Again. The food was acceptable but shoved into the box without any care (are they trying to save money by combining orders?). Literally fast food chicken places are better. Here's what is crazy: don't count on enough condiments with which to finish your food. If adding one extra packet of ketchup or honey is going to break the profit margins for your food, just imagine what someone speaking badly about your establishment will do. That 5 cent packet just cost you any of my future business and all recommendations to friends not to frequent this place. Feel free to dismiss me as simply disgruntled. But if I got treated badly, there are others getting the same treatment.

The food is trash. Hope I don't get food poisoning. Chicken fried steak was very thin and the meat tasted bitter. Cheese balls were cold and greasy and obviously frozen , Same for the hush puppies. The salad had dark and wilted lettuce in it. We ordered and picked up. Don't waste the money or time on this place. We eat out more than we should , But I can't believe they are still in business with this kind of food leaving the establishment. Very disappointed. Never again for us.

I had a bad experience there today 4-8-24 we orded and half the food came to the table and than we set there for over 20 waiting and no more food we had to go ask for the rest of food and when the 2nd half came it was cold and the rest of the other food was cold, we paid over $50 and was very disappointed, no apology or anything, this will affect the nexted time i want to go there

Went through drive thru and the order was wrong. Should be steak fingers combo. I don't live in town so going back is an even bigger dread. So disappointed 😞

I’ve been here all my life. Riversmith used to be good. I haven’t been here in a while and decided to get lunch at Riversmith today. The food was horrible!!! I don’t know what happened but it was bad! I also ordered the mushrooms and I paid $10 for 11 mushrooms when they used to give so much more when you ordered the mushrooms and they were just as bad!!! Never ever eating here again!!! They have gone down hill!!! 0 stars

Ordered online today. Riversmith’s has really gone down hill. Used to love this place. Fish was soggy. Hush puppies were cold. No longer impressed. We’ll seek other options when looking for fish in the future. I do not recommend any more.

Cashier inside was rude. Bathroom had no paper towels in the automatic dispenser. I honestly didn’t like the paper boxes our food was placed in. I asked for ketchup and only got 4 packets. This was 3 full sized meals. Our order placed online and the time it had for our food to be ready was over 20 minutes later than the time text said. Spent over $40.00.

Extremely disappointed! My husband and I used to be regulars at River Smiths when we lived here, so when we were visiting today, we took the opportunity to have it again. The shrimp tasted dirty, the fries were cold, they even somehow managed to mess up the fried biscuits. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food at 2pm. We left 3/4 of our $40 meal uneaten. I did speak to the manager on duty. He apologized and gave excuses that their oil was changed 2 days ago so there was no reason that anything should have tasted bad. He offered me partial credit even though he knew we didn’t live here. Don’t waste your money on the food or the service! What a sad day that our memories of such a wonderful restaurant were erased with one visit.

Me and my husband were craving fried chicken so we came to Riversmith’s only to be very, very dissatisfied with the employees or kids running the kitchen this evening. Chicken legs still had blood. We asked them to fry longer which they said they did but it came out to us the same way! Like we are dumb and can’t tell that they just kept it warm and didn’t ‘cook’ it longer. The manager was of no help. I guess that’s what you get there nowadays! Very disappointed. If anything, we should have been reimbursed for this terrible experience.

My husband and I decided we would go pickup food at RiverSmiths today expecting for our food to be good as always when we come and now mind you it’s been a while since we came and ate here. Ordered 2 chicken bit dinner with side of cheese balls and fried pickles this was the outcome of my pickles !!!!!! I called and had a conversation with the manager but that was not going anywhere! The little lady at drive thru snatched my husband card out his hand and had a very bad attitude along with the ranch being watery! I don’t know what’s going on with some of these Restaurants but if your not going to have a good team and especially assist to the customers assuring everything is correct and dandy just do everyone a favor and shut down sad to say about this Lubbock classic but it’s no longer how it used to be.
